Today was the last lecture of the course. In this lecture, we presented our prototypes that we have made in the last weeks. My group designed the "Cleverhand". A glove that gives the owner different abilities. Be it receiving crafting skills to programming skills. To learn more about the Cleverhand, listen to the podcast.

Refried marrowfat pea cake, with spinach , pepper flakes and a dribble of olive oil, would have been great with some yoghurt. The last two (I think) of Susan’s stained glass art works. The first one broken, dusty and forgotten on the back porch. The second one clean and shiny in the lounge window. Quite cheering after two days of rubbish clearing and skip filling! #stainedglass #artwork #creative #floral #flowers #portchalmers #creativecommunity #cleverhands #colourfulcreations (at Port Chalmers) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1cb2H5gYkT/?igshid=jyc9gzd99l9d

With the Red Ships at our doors and our noble King Shrewd failing in both body and mind, The young bastard saw his opportunity. He felled him. With magic and might of muscle, He took from the duchies the king they needed. And from Prince Regal he stole His father, his mentor, his rock of wisdom. The kindness bestowed on a bastard felled him.
And the Bastard laughed. In his murderous triumph, sword bared and bloody, he soiled with murder The keep that had sheltered his worthless life. Cared he nothing for the great hearts That had fostered him, fed him, clothed and protected him. He loved only bloodshed. No loyalty did the Bastard cede to king or country.
Wounded in heart, sorrowing as a son, burdened with the concerns of a country at war, The prince, now king, stepped forward to his tasks. His brothers dead or fled, to him fell The heavy crown. To him fell the mourning, and to him, the protecting. The last son, The loyal son, the brave prince became the king of the racked and troubled land.
“Vengeance first!” weary King Regal cried. To his shelter flocked his dukes and nobles. “To the dungeons with the Bastard!” they pleaded with one voice. And so King Regal Did his duty. To cell and chains went the conniving Bastard, the Witted One, the Regicide. To dark and cold he was sent, as befitted such a dark and cold heart.
“Discover his magic,” the king bade his loyal men. And so they tried. With questions and fists, Clubs and iron, with cold and dark, they broke the traitor. They found no nobility, no cleverness, Only wolf-greed and dog-selfishness. And so he died, the Traitor, the Witted One, the Bastard. Of no use to anyone but himself had his life been. His death freed us from his shame.
King Regal’s burden — A song by Celsu Cleverhands, a Farrow minstrel

As a chronic crafter and journal hoarder, it was only a matter of time before I got bitten by the bookbinding bug. Honestly, I’m surprised that it took me this long to hear the siren’s call. As with all crafts I feel a sudden, undeniable urge to pursue (despite my better judgement and sad weight of my pocket book), I wanted to immediately dump hundreds of dollars into stocking up on all the supplies I needed to craft my own journals. I resisted the urge and instead searched online for suitable beginner bookbinding kits to scratch my crafting itch.
Etsy is a dangerous place for a chronic crafter. I wanted one of everything in every color and in regards to bookbinding, I wanted every obscure tool and material I saw which I would only end up using once and then toss into the ever growing eclectic mound that is my craft corner. Thankfully, the Cleverhands Etsy shop came to my rescue and provided a bookbinding kit that was perfect for a dabbling bookbinder. For $36 (I bought the “large” size) I acquired a kit that included everything I needed to craft my first journal.
The kit comes in a simple cardboard box and includes:
French Link Stitch bookbinding instructions
Bone folder
Awl
Bookbinding needle
2 binder clips
1″ foam brush
1.5 oz. PVA bookbinding glue
3 yds waxed linen bookbinding thread
3 leather strips
2 bookboards cut to size
2 decorative endpapers
2 pc. book cloth
Paper punching guide
25% rag Strathmore fine writing signature paper
All materials and tools are organized and labeled inside the box, and the instruction book is simple and easy to follow for a first time bookbinder.
My first journal took only a few hours to complete and I was satisfied with how well it turned out. My stitching was a bit loose (the instructions warn about making the stitches too tight because it may make it difficult for the book to lie flat) causing my journal to wobble a bit, but it still holds together quite well.
My second attempt was much more successful. I made the stitches tighter but allowed enough give for the journal to lie flat. I printed up my own lined paper for it (a labor/ink intensive project that is only worth repeating occasionally), and used fabric from Fireside Textiles for the cover. The goal was to make a witchy-themed spellbook/recipe journal and their fabric print was perfect for that.
The best part of starting with a kit is that all the tools I have left over I can use for other projects. All I really need is more glue, thread, and bookboard, all of which are readily available from Hollander’s, a bookbinding supply shop. There are hundreds of bookbinding tutorials online for a multitude of styles and materials, but for now my crafting addiction is sated.

Moody Industrial Wedding Inspiration
There’s nothing we love more than watching a bare space be transformed to reach its fullest potential, and this styled shoot done at lush Australian venue is no exception. This creative collaboration took place at a private property with the most glorious industrial shed and an even better view! From the tablescape lit by soaring marsala tapers and hanging Edison bulbs, to the dessert display with a trio of fruit-adorned cakes, it doesn’t get much better than this. (Though they even outdo themselves with that blackberry ice-cream cart!) This moody industrial wedding inspiration is fit for a statement-making couple, and we hope you enjoy this utterly divine soiree.
Here, Figtree Pictures does it yet again! Their expertise in capturing the most romantic and memorable moments goes unmatched.
Designed by Little Gray Station, this styled editorial is dramatic in all the right ways- its color, scenery, and vibe all have us feeling the passion in this shoot.
Alstonville Florist created the most drop-dead-gorgeous floral installations for this exhibition. We could lay under their canopy of florals, reading love stories all day long.
Watercolor stationery from Cleverhand added a playful, whimsical flair to this otherwise moody and dramatic shoot.
From the designer, Little Gray Station: The Camellia Weddings shoot would have to be one of our favorites so far. Every element of the shoot, from the florals right down to the place cards, all worked in so perfectly with this beautiful venue. The setting we created at the venue is vibrant and bold, with a rich, moody colour palette contrasted with soft textures, unstructured florals, and watercolour calligraphy. Bright tones of marsala and indigo are carried throughout all elements of the shoot, adding a burst of colour amongst the organic elements of timber and greenery.
The new purpose-built shed has an almost industrial feeling with concrete floors and steel beams, so we showcased this with black wire furniture, hairpin leg tables, gold cutlery, charcoal plateware, raw timber bench seating and drop down Edison bulb lighting. The tablescape is loose and organic with a trailing off-centre floral arrangement and scattered tapered candles in tones of marsala. All of the details come together to create a striking and dramatic shoot that we are super proud of, with our amazing team of suppliers on board.
The long sleeve lace gown from Karen Willis Holmes is classic with a modern spin. The front slit gives it an updated look and unexpected feature.
With such lush and vibrant greenery as a backdrop, we wanted to use bold and rich colours that would complement the surroundings. We were also inspired by the current climate as we head into the cooler months, which is reflected in our colour palette of marsala, indigo and berry tones, and in the details like the faux sheepskin rug and warm lighting – it came to be a very luxe winter inspired shoot. All of our incredible suppliers absolutely nailed the brief and it was so rewarding to see it all come together on the day – we think the images speak for themselves!

Palm oil free oatcakes - yep made at home, using some turkey fat (#turkeychallenge - using it all) instead of butter or lard, rolled out on the baking sheet, to short to cut then move. * ------------------ * 125g oats 100 g oat bran 60g white flour 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1 tsp salt 60g butter, lard, or fat from poultry 80 - 100 ml hot water *preheat oven to 190c *mix all dry ingredients *rub in the cold fat with finger tips *when like breadcrumbs add hot water *mix with a knife and then get your hands in the bowl, mixing and squashing together, it is crumbly *put on a baking tray, greased or non stick(31cm x 31) *roll out, as you do push the rounded edges inwards, and keep rolling, this helps cover the tray. *gently cut into square or rectangles, the smaller the less messy to eat. *cook 10 to 14 minutes a little colour, not too much. Cool and eat or store. . . . #insightofthesea #ISOTS #locavore #casablanca2constantinople #lovepulses #lovegrains #loveseeds #plantbased #wholefoods #oatlover #cleverhands #foodie #instafood #instayum #foodfeed #goodfood (at Peckham) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5vZfK4nd-9/?igshid=1008xyw1h2ojv

Journal Bandoliers
The problem with many notebooks (including Moleskines) is the lack of anywhere to keep a pen/pencil. I found this seller on Etsy who makes these cool bandoliers for notebooks, iPads and a range of other items. Emily of Cleverhands is based in San Francisco and is really approachable, she’ll even make custom sizes if you can’t find exactly what you want. Check out her store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/cleverhands
Pros: Cool designs in a range of sizes and styles. Will make custom sizes if needed. Never be without your pen. Comes in a neat package with a little notebook.
Cons: Haven’t found any yet.
The damage: $19-$30 (Aus) + shipping depending on size.

You live your own life now. But I still care about what you think. And all those roads you have left to lead, are you scared of them? (Are you scared to mend?)  If you could only believe in me like I believe in you. I'll assume you're happy when you're holding up. You'll be just fine. And when I say please don't, please do.  You are so much more than you've been told, then you've been shown. You are stuck on a branch. We've seen you fall off. You don't know where you'll land. You're in the air, all of this life comes quicker than we know. Re-read your story line and sing.
