for the 21st of a friend who lives in absolutely Nowhere PA, we took her to the only bar in town, a dive called The Hard Hat. It was… about what you’d expect. I.E. AMAZING. I have cultivated a real love for Those Dudes At Dive Bars.

but this is, like, a ~nice~ restaurant with a big polished-wood bar! usually at night it's mostly empty but there was a sport on or something I guess?

I have been to a few of Those Bars, too, mostly for karaoke, and thus far Those Dudes have been surprisingly polite and/or ignore me completely? idk, maybe I just look so different from most people in this area who go to bars that... they don't know how to parse me at all?

the most fun was when I went to a dark smoky sports bar for karaoke and a heavy-set middle-aged bearded dude in a baseball cap sat down to talk to me and I was like oh NO... and he ended up buying me a beer and we talked about World War I and science fiction and folk music for like an hour.

I actually got here from LJ - I am plasticity there and I think found you through last_archangel originally? and my tumblr is not tremendously operable just yet but I enjoy yours greatly. also I am from rural PA! though, the easternish part of the state, so, yeah, a few more things to do over there. and I am now in Boston studying cities, and things. I love your stories and enthusiasm and how you make your own fun. So, hello! :-D

also L O L I am in rural northwestern Pennsylvania DESPERATELY MISSING BOSTON, which I only lived in for about six years but feel kindship with as with no other place I've lived. my dad grew up in the Philadelphia area, but other than occasionally visiting grandparents I don't actually know much about the other side of the state, other than that the music scene was enviably awesome in the 1970s. and it... tends to be less culturally Appalachia-wannabe than here?
