While we are on the topic of shipping when it comes to Metaphor. IMO, it was for the best to remove the option to date other characters. Because IMO, a game should be allowed to just stick with one shipped that can (hopefully) be enjoyed. And this is where I go into spoilers for the end of the game… you have been warned…
Tumblr media
Eupha and Will are the closest thing we have to a canon ship. And with Will becoming the new King by the end of the game, this means that if Eupha and Will make their relationship official, two of the most hated tribes will be the rulers of Euchronia. Which is extremely cathartic considering that they have ties to the old world that the Church wanted to keep under wraps.
Tumblr media
The main reason why I am making this post, and while I am calling plot spoilers is because of Strohl. Why? Because Strohl is a Clemar. Racist as that may sound, hear me out.
Will is the Prince all along, Will is an Elda (the most hated tribe in the Kingdom of Euchronia). But Will is an Elda Clemar hybrid because his Father; the deceased King; Hythlodaeus V AKA More gave birth with the Eldan Queen.
This means that, if Will was female and was shipped with Strohl, it would be a Generation Xerox of an Elda and Clemar having a child.

I'm mad because this guy actually looks cute & hot but he'll probably end up being a throwaway villain.

The Lina fandom variants to match Umbra fandom variants is going to be a running thing, so here is a Metaphor: ReFantazio Lina. Making her an Elda felt too obvious so she's a Clemar instead.

Not For Broadcast characters as Metaphor: ReFantazio tribes
Jeremy Donaldson: Clemar. Of course the face of the NNN is going to be one, and if there's anyone who fits that description of being free-spirited, rational, and distasteful of illogical restraint, it's him.
Megan Wolfe: Roussainte. It makes sense for the other anchor to be another populous tribe. She's aggressive and career-driven, showing plenty of that stereotypical superiority vs. inferiority focus.
Alex Winston: Elda. They used to be a janitor before stumbling into the broadcast room and are frequently looked down on and not taken seriously. This also gives them plenty to gain from Advance's laws.
Peter Clement: Nidia. He's sociable and charming when he wants to be, and TV celebrity status suits a nidia perfectly. Critics of Advance also tend to focus on him even more this way, accusing him of being a liar and a fraud, which distracts from the real threat:
Julia Salisbury: Elda. She's thoroughly unused to public appearances pre-Advance (see Bits of Your Life) and wants equality even in the face of intense discrimination. This also adds another interesting layer to the Advance vs. Disrupt debate from fellow elda Alex's perspective.
Alan James: Roussainte. He fits the stereotypes to a T -- belligerent, militaristic, competitive, proud. Easy pick.
Jenny Hartley: Eugief. She's diplomatic and kind, but prefers to stick to the background and let more broadly-respected tribes be the face of the news. This also lends an edge to all those failed blind dates. (I'm assuming a more modern/post-game society where even a eugief could hold a managerial position if she proved herself, but I'd also take mustari for similar reasons)
Patrick Bannon: Ishkia. He's incredibly self-absorbed and assumes everyone else should see him for the genius he is, but really his tribe only gets him so far.
Robyn Shorte: Mustari. She's generally friendly, but not always easy to read -- she can be snarky and insensitive, and how much is deliberate vs. ignorant is sometimes left up to interpretation.
Robert Boseman: Rhoag. He's professional and stiff, and perhaps sees himself as a father figure to Alex -- especially in The Timeloop.
Dave Davison: Paripus. Another easy choice -- he's laid-back, hedonistic, and painfully honest. Plus the idea of a paripus being fourth-wall aware is just really funny to me.

I love the idea that the Elda (because they are directly descended from the Old World humans) don't really have a concept of homophobia but the Clemar (because of the whole hyper conservative theocratic society thing) do.
So while Strohl is agonizing over their every interaction and catastrophizing over every 'slip up', tormenting himself over his perceived 'monstrous desires' and living in terror that he'll go to far and destroy his friendship with Will and be left with nothing...
Will, who has never really had to deal with concepts like 'repression', 'heteronormativty', or 'internalized homophobia', thinks their already dating and just taking it really really slowly.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Exhibition Pamphlet - Louis Design Comments
Tumblr media
Louis
Tribe: Clemar Full Name: Louis Guiabern
Called the greatest hero of the Royal Army, a commissioned officer who became a nobleman at an exceptionally young age. His talents set him apart from normal people as both a soldier and a sorcerer, and, furthermore, as a tactician, his ingenuity and grasp of psychology is exceptional. He values rationality, and while his stance of promoting subordinates based solely on ability with no regard for tribe or origin is scorned by his senior officials, he's gathered a great deal of support from radicals, and now holds great influence exceeding that of a single officer. When the King's magic activates, he becomes one of the leading candidates to become the next king alongside the Sanctist leader Forden.
Comments from Creators:
Louis was a character designed in the early stages of development, so I went in with the approach of wanting to create an extremely straightforward "nemesis." Starting from the basis of shoujo manga-like aestheticism*, I drew him while being conscious of his white-based outfit, like a symbol of authority, and his silhouette. The protagonist's white outfit has the nuance of "something pure that will be filled with color from now on", but conversely, Louis's outfit has the image of "shining brightly by himself."
(Metaphor: ReFantazio Character Designer Shigenori Soejima)
(*the word for "aestheticism", 耽美 (tanbi), in context of shoujo manga, refers basically inextricably to the precursor to what would become BL/yaoi, and was how the first of what would be considered BL magazines like JUNE and ALLAN defined themselves. it's the loan word that became danmei, as tanbi works spread to chinese fandom in the 80s and 90s.)
