Each day more people help, save the bay!
Each day more people help, save the bay! Local nonprofit, independent organization, Save The Bay is well known here in the small state of Rhode Island, and especially where I live in Narragansett,Rhode Island. For those unfamiliar with this particular, member supported organization, save the day is a catchy slogan that is in support of rebuilding and restoring our environment here in Rhode Island specifically, Narragansett Bay. But the rapid increase of climate change, pollution, and concerns about sea levels rising make our wonderful beaches at risk of becoming destroyed as environmental concerns rise. The nonprofit organization which has been around since the year 1970 states “With the help of our members, supporters and volunteers, we can continue the ongoing cleanup and improvement of Narragansett Bay for generations to come.”And thankfully over the years support for this important cause has been wildly successful in many communities across the small state. Improving Narragansett Bay was just the beginning as it spreads awareness around the East Coast about the importance of a healthy beach environment.
In addition to their strong, environmental message, save the bay is also quite active on social media as of 2023 they have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube Instagram, Flickr, as well as their website. When checking the save the bay Facebook page the account consisted of 16,000 followers and I was pleasantly surprised that the most recent post had been made just a day ago and that the nonprofit organization had events planned for the following day! On July 15, 2023 save the bay will be having a fundraiser, which consists of a 2 mile swim from Newport to Jamestown at 6:15 in the morning! When scrolling through the page, I found pictures of environmentalists, helping educate children on the importance of clean ocean water, as well as lots of other fundraisers.
When opening up Twitter, I found a similar page which reminded me of Facebook. However, when scrolling down to read the posts, I noticed that the number of shares and likes seems significantly smaller than on Facebook. The reason for this is the following on Twitter was significantly less than Facebook growing. With just about 4841 followers the account seemed as though it wasn’t getting any spotlight on it. There are many ways I think, save the bear could improve their marketing towards local Rhode Islanders one would be by posting more lighthearted content, and or jokes that could contribute to the campaign's message. Sometimes a joke can really attract attention.
Next, I took a gander at the organization's YouTube channel which consisted of 796 subscribers and 214 videos. My first impression of the YouTube channel was how consistent the nonprofit organization has been at posting videos! The channel was created over 10 years ago and still continues to post awareness to this day. Despite the numbers being small, and YouTube, being a massive platform, I was still surprised. Many people were watching the videos. The channel also included links to Save the Bay website, as well as the other social media sites. As I mentioned previously, when looking at the statistics of the channel, it has rained a total of 233,470 views since January 4, 2012. Something the channel could definitely improve on is the length of their videos. I noticed that many of their new videos are about a minute to two minutes long which just isn’t enough time. Despite this con, the channel looked aesthetically, pleasing, and professional. The audience growth rate has been minimal over the past few years as the YouTube channel is the least subscribed to out of the other social media platforms I have discussed. I think this is because over the past few years YouTube has been outshined by other platforms.
Lastly, when looking over the Instagram, I found all the same information as I did the other social media platforms. It a following of 7353 people and an astounding 1518 posts filled with educational videos, discussing the base reform, agenda, and structural issues, as well as other obstacles in the nonprofits way.

Do you know what Fast Fashion is? You might want to investigate. Fast Fashion is how the majority of the clothing and fashion industries choose to do business. It's become public knowledge that many products are built to have a short life span, forcing consumers to by more. After the Industrial Revolution the Clothing Industry was created. Textiles (Fabrics) could be made much faster and in larger quantities. Tailors/seamstresses began to be able to make clothing that was less expensive for the lower classes. Eventually Fashion Designers became celebrities. At first there was two times a year new clothing styles were rotated, spring and fall. Now there a four or or more times a year retailers will change out their stock. People throw out their old clothes, or donate them, to buy the newest fashions. Along with this, fabrics are now made with plastics. TLDR: More clothes are saturating the market, designed to wear out as quickly as possible, containing non-compostable plastics, with environmentally devastating practices. What would you do to change these practices or mitigate the damage? As a little girl I remember going to the beach to collect shells and was always so amazed by the different size and color of each one. Beautiful works of art surrounding our coastlines and created by nature. Sadly those beaches shells are replaced by plastic and I want to be able to help remove each piece. Now I can and so can you 😊 @4ocean removes one pound of trash every time a bracelet is purchased. “We no longer find sea shells on the beach now, all we find is trash”
Environmental class watching video called “Gyre:creating Arts from Plastic Ocean”
Really makes you think about what we’re even doing here? All we, as a society is doing is killing the wildlife and trashing the oceans.
*What is everyone opinion on this specific Environment Issue?

Ladies! I have some some shoes still in the box that I'd like to give away to someone who could use them. They are a size 8.5, baby blue (although you can't tell from the picture 🙃), have a soft, supportive upper and some cushion for long days on the trail. Adidas teamed up with Parley to use upcycled waste from beaches and coastal communities to build this shoe. It also has a sock-like Primeknit upper so your foot can move naturally. Follow @adidasterrex, @sabrinaleannstanley and leave a comment with a female in your life that inspires you with their positivity and fighting spirit. Monday morning I'll announce the winners via Instagram Story, and contact them for shipping details. . . . . . . . . #trailrunning #adidas #adidasterrex #mountains #Parley #cleanouroceans https://www.instagram.com/p/B_XzMCnnKSD/?igshid=xht5bw7likpe
