What a lovely home built in 2007 in Birkenfeld, Oregon. It has 2bds, 2ba, and is priced reasonably at $330K + $377mo. HOA fee (I was surprised that there's an HOA.)

Double doors open to an entrance foyer.

Inner foyer doors open to a spacious living room.

It's not entirely open concept, but the floorplan is open and airy with a vaulted ceiling.

The kitchen is lovely and a good size. The backsplash is pretty and I like the lighting under the cabinets.

The large primary bedroom has a vaulted beamed ceiling and doors to the patio.

The en-suite bathroom #1 is a standard 3pc., but has a nice vintage style pedestal sink and tub.

If this is bedroom #2, and it appears to be, it's on the small side.

It has an en-suite and small closet.

The 2nd bath is very nice, too.

The house is on the banks of Fishhawk Lake.

There's a small patio and some lovely greenery around the house.

There's no garage, but there's a very long driveway and a parking pad.

Raymond Carver, nelle pieghe dell’America

L’autore che rivoluzionò la forma del racconto breve nell’America del secondo dopoguerra… Scrittore, poeta e saggista, Raymond Clevie Carver Jr. nacque il 25 maggio 1938 a Clatskanie, nell'Oregon, in una famiglia dove il padre era affilatore in una segheria, mentre la madre  lavorava come cameriera. Cresciuto a Yakima, dove i Carver si erano trasferiti nel 1941 in seguito ai problemi economici, Ray si impegnò sin da ragazzo in molti lavoretti, e nel frattempo sviluppò una forte passione per la scrittura e per la lettura. Nell'estate del 1955 conobbe Maryann Burk, una intraprendente quindicenne, con cui si fidanzò, poi completò gli studi alla Yakima High School e si trasferì in California, a Chester, per raggiungere il padre, che vi viveva da alcuni anni. Ray e il padre cominciarono a lavorare  insieme in segheria, ma ben presto il ragazzo si rese conto di non essere adatto a quella mansione, e tornò a Yakima, dove lavorò in una farmacia come fattorino. Nel giugno 1957  Carver sposò Maryann, che pochi mesi più tardi gli diede la primogenita Christine Rae. Spinto dalla moglie a proseguire gli studi, Carver si iscrisse  ai due anni propedeutici all'Università di Walla Walla e in seguito a una scuola di scrittura per corrispondenza, il Palmer Institute of Writing. Nel 1958 divenne padre di Vance Lindsay e iniziò a frequentare i corsi di scrittura creativa e letteratura del Chico State College, dove insegnava  John Gardner, mentre uscì il suo primo lavoro, una lettera intitolata Where is intellect apparsa su Wildcat, la rivista del college. Trasferitosi con la famiglia a Chico per proseguire gli studi, nel 1960 Ray divenne curatore della rivista letteraria dell'università, Selection, su cui uscì il suo racconto Stagioni furiose, su una passione impossibile nel Sud degli Stati Uniti. Nel 1961 Raymond lasciò Chico, nonostante i buoni riscontri in ambito letterario, a causa delle difficoltà economiche affrontate, tornò a lavorare in una segheria, a Eureka, per poi spostarsi ad Arcata, dove continuò a studiare e nel frattempo divenne impiegato in una ditta di lavorazione del legname. Ray nel 1963, dopo la rappresentazione a teatro di Carnation, la sua prima commedia, e la pubblicazione della poesia L'anello di ottone sulla rivista Target, si laureò alla Humboldt State University e pubblica su Toyon, la rivista letteraria dell'istituto, il racconto Il padre. Costretto nuovamente a trasferirsi, stavolta a Berkeley, per motivi di lavoro, lo scrittore ottenne una borsa di studio per un master allo Iowa Writers' Workshop, che era un seminario di scrittura creativa. Ray poco tempo dopo lasciò anche Iowa City per vivere a Sacramento, dove lavorò come custode in un ospedale, poi trovò un impiego presso la Science Research Associates, casa editrice di Palo Alto, per la quale si occupò della redazione di libri scientifici. Alla fine degli anni Sessanta, dopo che fu pubblicata Near Klamath,  la sua prima raccolta di poesie, Ray seguì Maryann in Israele, a Tel Aviv, ma  ben presto tornò negli Stati Uniti. Dopo aver vinto nel 1969 il Discovery Award per la poesia, Carver si trasferì  con la famiglia, tornata nel frattempo negli Usa,  in California, mentre il racconto Ventiquattro ettari fu incluso nell'antologia The best little magazine fiction e la casa editrice Kajal Press pubblicò Winter insonnia, la sua seconda raccolta di poesie. Nel 1971 Ray ricevette  l'incarico di insegnare all'Università di California di Santa Cruz per un corso di scrittura creativa e poco dopo il suo racconto Fat comparve su "Harper's Bazar. Nominato visiting lecturer per la narrativa dall'Università di Berkeley, lo scrittore nel 1973 pubblicò su Voices in American Poetry alcune poesie, mentre l'anno successivo divenne il redattore di Spectrum, rivista dell'Università di California a Santa Barbara, dove insegnava. Malgrado il successo in campo letterario, le condizioni economiche di Carver non erano buoni, complicate anche dalla sua passione per l'alcol, che lo portò a dimettersi dall'università, anche se nel 1976 per McGraw-Hill pubblicò Will you please be quiet, please? (Vuoi star zitta, per favore?), mentre l'anno successivo diede alle stampe Furious seasons and other stories. Ray nel 1981 diede alle stampe la raccolta di racconti What we talk about when we talk about love  (Voi non sapete cos'è l'amore), cui seguirono nel 1983 Cathedral e Fires: Essays, poems, stories Nel settembre 1987  Carver fu  operato di urgenza a Syracuse a causa di una emorragia al polmone un anno dopo, mentre il racconto Errand  vinse il Prize Stories, gli furono diagnosticate delle metastasi al cervello, che lo obbligarono  a sottoporsi a Seattle a un ciclo di radioterapia. Poco tempo dopo Ray entrò a far parte dell'American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, menrre gli ultimi giorni della sua vita furono dedicati a A new path to the waterfall (Il nuovo sentiero per la cascata), l’ultimo libro di poesie. Ricoverato al Virginia Mason Hospital, Raymond Carver morì  il 2 agosto 1988 nella sua casa di Port Angeles ed è sepolto all'Ocean View Cemetery, mentre la Collins Harvill a Londra pubblicò postuma l’antologia Elephant and other stories.
