This humble snail that I captured the other morning is exhibiting one of the most intriguing facts in the universe: that of The Golden Ratio, or Divine Proportion - 1:1.1618. Everywhere you look in nature, from fossils, sunflowers and shells to spiral galaxies, you will find this mathematical formula, expressed by Fibonacci in his Sequence: 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34. If you've noticed anything about the numbers you've cracked it: you add two numbers to get the next, ad infinitum. This ratio has been used to build everything from the microscopic to the telescopic. According to artists like da Vinci and many others used it, it is the most ideal proportion, asthetically, for a composition. Architects, physicists and philosophers use it.
