okay so they'd have to meet each other's friends after dating for a while just because they have to figure out if they're really willing for their friends to know that they're 1. queer 2. dating someone from the other side of town

chet meeting darry and pony is ... interesting

pony's obviously 14 and kinda hates the socs with a violent passion because they jumped johnny (setting these hcs pre-canon btw so no fountain shenanigans)

darry has his own feelings about it all because of how things ended between him and paul

but when they see how hard chet's trying, and how softly soda reassures him when he thinks his brothers aren't looking, they're won over immediately

when chet accidentally lets it slip that his home life isn't great, it's darry who offers for him to stay the night, which has soda literally bouncing off the walls in happiness because he's so happy that darry's giving chet a chance

unfortunately pony is still 14, but he keeps his comments to himself, even if he's squinting at chet the whole time and trying to seem menacing

soda meeting bev and brill?? oh dude

well chet's first mistake was interrupting them at the drive-in to pull them away right to the back to meet soda

bev was already pissed off

when chet introduces them to soda and says "we're kinda going steady" brill is literally 🧍 "oh"

honestly brill's replaying every single interaction he's had with chet where someone's tried to set him up with a girl and chet just went "nope!"

bev immediately goes off on one about how chet should know better than to date a greaser (but she has no issue with him being queer !! ), which soda was expecting, but chet's just kinda there like ☹️ because he was really holding out hope

and when bev and brill notice he looks really upset, and like he's trying not to cry, they immediately swoop in to comfort him and promise that they don't think of him any differently

bev says she'd be willing to give soda a chance, meanwhile brill is already exchanging contact details with him because he is a sociable diva 🫶

bob and paul: they’re obviously really close!! i hc them both as being only children, which bob feels kinda different for since he’s grown up with chet and brill who both have 2 siblings each, and trip who has a brother. they definitely view each other as brothers, hence why paul was quite as fucked up as he was when bob died (also like to be fair he did watch it happen so there’s that too)

bob and cherry: guys they are so important to me,,, girlboss gf and girlfailure bf… obviously they are head over heels for each other, and cherry’s the only one bob is really vulnerable around, which makes it all that much harder when he’s been drinking. they both want to help each other get through the bad times, but they both know that it’s inevitable that bob’s going to get caught up in the social divide :( they are so important to me :( bob who doesn’t know how to comfort cherry about her parents arguing but really wants to try

bob and marcia: the idea of bob being very wary around marcia because he’s scared she’ll spread slander about him is so funny to me because she is only 3 apples tall!! you’re telling me you’re scared of her when she’s 3 apples tall and riddled with anxiety?? they’re close because they’re the two who are closest with cherry, so they spend a lot of time together, but bro is quaking in his boots because he’s so scared she’ll put the embarrassing shit she knows about him to use

bob and trip: dyslexic bob sheldon who claims he just ‘doesn’t get it’ when he struggles with homework, and trip who helps him out without making any jokes at bob’s expense. trip (in my head) presents as quite stoic on the outside even though he’s secretly silly, while bob is more outwardly silly, so they balance each other out. trip who knows the best out of all the guys that the fighting is worthless, but knows exactly why bob does it. and bob who knows trip doesn’t fully support the fighting, but encourages him to join in so trip can control something. they’re not the absolute closest of the bunch, but they are very important to me!!

bob and chet: bob sheldon who wreaks havoc on his parents to try and get them to parent him better, but he takes things far more seriously when chet is the one being ignored by his parents. bob who doesn’t let chet go a night sleeping at his own home unless it’s by choice, so he always fixes up the couch for him in case chet lets himself in while bob’s asleep. they’re close. they’re so similar in the way they’re treated by their families, and how they choose to cope with that treatment. i don’t think i can actually put into words how important they are to meee!!!

bob and bev: oh you thought he was scared of marcia? beverly jitney-bush is no man’s peace. they’re close in the way they argue a ton but it doesn’t change their dynamic at all! with bev constantly at brill’s, and brill living 2 doors down from bob, they spend a lot of time together! bob’s probably the most headstrong guy, while bev’s the most headstrong girl, so they’re both close and at constant odds with each other. i think they argue because they’re similar, but they know they understand each other well enough to know when they’re going too far.

bob and brill: childhood best friends type shit!! they’ve known each other since they were little kids, and brill’s always balanced bob out really well. when bob’s letting his emotions guide him, brill’s there to help him regulate himself. they’re pretty big opposites from each other, but it’s something that really comes in handy when one gets in a situation he’s not exactly equipped for, because the other will always come to his aid. all the more tragic considering bob and brill make direct eye contact when bob gets stabbed

brill - guys i gave him 2 younger brothers can you tell i perceive him as being big brother coded

trip - in my head he should rlly be higher but i couldn't totally settle on it? in my head this is where kcso's trip sits, but sean's trip is between bob and brill (still can't find the words to explain why i perceive the two trips so differently)

beverly - i can't really explain this one? i think she's just absolutely bang in the middle??

robert "bob" sheldon (17?); there's a lot of info on bob in the book which i'd really recommend reading because i fear people love to forget he's not just ... evil; he's pretty aggressive and violent, but is mentioned to have a softer side !!

paul holden (20, but dan berry says he's 17 in the musical ... dan berry is wrong); a lot of info on paul depends on who you ask !! he's been fleshed out quite a bit by the fandom but i'd recommend checking out some @qprpbj writing if you wanna gather some thoughts on his personality !!

sherri "cherry" valance (16); her parents fight a lot and her dad is a drunk so she's very in tune with the fact that socs aren't really all that, and she's pretty well educated on the social divide !!

ensemble soc time hehehe 🫶 i have headcanons up about all of the ensemble socs if that would help !! mostly listing just the canon stuff about them so i don't get carried away with my hcs again 🫡

i've mentioned that i hc bob and brill living two doors down from each other and honestly ?? i think they were probably introduced by their parents when they were really young, but they properly became friends when they were like 7 and started hanging out together more at school, where they met ...

bob and chet honestly fight over something really petty like wanting to play with the same toys, and brill swoops in and saves the day by suggesting they all play together (brill will continue to be the problem solver for the rest of his life) and thus the initial trio was FORMED

trip enters the equation once they're maybe 10 or 11, and at first he's really quiet so bob and chet do all the talking for him during a group project, but once he starts hanging out with them more, he starts opening up and joins in with the stupidity (10 year old brill is so stressed)

the boys all join the football team once they start high school which is how they meet paul !! i have a little post about this too hehe

paul's already got quite the reputation as being one of the star players on the team, and god forbid chet allows anyone a moment of peace

he is marching STRAIGHT up to paul and going 🫵 TEACH ME YOUR WAYS I WISH TO BE BETTER AT FOOTBALL

and suddenly paul is just 🧍 swarmed by four freshmen 🧍

they're everyone's worst nightmare 😔 trip is punching the floor every time he gets put with the two of them in a group project that's his nightmare blunt rotation actually

speaking of blunt rotations,,, i've been pondering about stoner bev a lot recently and i feel like chet just isn't capable of messing with her the same way she does with him LMAO

she's just very chill when she's high and can get a little spacey, but she's not as easily wound up as chet can be

guys i know we always focus on them annoying the shit out of each other,, but what about their sweet moments ☹️

bev cheering for chet as well as brill during football games ☹️ and chet always telling her she did a great job cheering once the game is over, even if their team lost ☹️

once chet's older sister moved out (before moving back in), chet gave bev a lot of the stuff she left behind (mostly old clothes and makeup), and bev still has a few bits of clothing in her closet even if they don't fit anymore because the thought was there

sometimes bob and paul try to convince brill that chet MUST have a crush on bev, but brill knows better (he's not insecure 🫶)

instead of being weird about it, brill's just genuinely so delighted that his girlfriend and his best friend get along so well, he's the human embodiment of 🥰

cherry bev and marcia all have the prettiest handwriting which is OBVIOUSLY in cursive!!! it borders on calligraphy every time they take a pen to paper

brill has that doctor handwriting for suuure i cannot elaborate i just know this to be true (only bev and trip can decipher it)

chet and trip both have like the most fucking normal handwriting you’ve ever seen in your life like their handwriting is just the times new roman font except trip’s letters are always absolutely identical and it’s kinda creepy how perfectly precise it is

let's do a little walkthrough of the average school morning for chet baker why don't we 🫶

by the time chet is making his way to brill's for a ride to school, he's already exhausted

how could he not be? he barely slept at all with one of his nephews screaming his head off over a nightmare, and it didn't exactly help when one of the bakers' beloved dogs decided to fight chet for his spot on the couch. by the time his dad left at 6am, chet had already given up on getting any more sleep

he's just glad he doesn't have football practice after school, because that would well and truly suck after a long day of classes with zero to little energy

brill doesn't live too far, just around the corner, but chet's dragging his feet the whole way, shoulders slumped

his entire body feels heavy as he lets himself inside the brillstein's house, plastering a smile across his face as he steps into view

when brill's mom asks how he slept, he lies and says "really well", but they both know he's lying

he knows he looks rough, but brill and beverly don't say anything as they appear from brill's bedroom, ready to leave

chet snatches up an apple from the fruit bowl and tosses it to his other hand, almost forcing himself to bounce on his feet before he dashes back out of the door and hops over the side of brill's convertible, settling into the backseat

again, brill and beverly don't say anything

they all know how it goes; chet goes home, he gets too embarrassed to ask to stay over, he doesn't sleep, and then he shows up acting like he's the life and soul of the party

all of their friends have made it abundantly clear that their doors are open for him whenever, but they all know he waits until he's explicitly invited or practically forced to accept, on account of the manners his father has instilled into him

okay so obviously we have it explicitly stated that the socs keep their feelings to themselves (everyone say thank you toxic masculinity and 60s attitudes towards pretty much everything 🫶)

and we know that their coping mechanisms are absolutely dogshit for a lack of better phrasing 🫶

i truly truly believe that, even if the soc boys don't explicitly discuss the things they're going through, they totally have each other's backs

paul holden at the big age of 20 has experienced the trials and tribulations that they are going through, whether it's familial or societal stress, and i really think that him encouraging them to fight with the greasers is him trying to show them how he dealt with things when he was their age

the boys in particular have such high expectations career-wise from their parents that i expect they're definitely aware of the fact they're ALL struggling with this, so there's kind of an unspoken acknowledgement that they all want to ignore the pressure they're being put under, which is why they go around causing absolute havoc together

i think particularly between paul and chet that there's a very strong brotherly dynamic, because the other boys get a chance to be vulnerable with their girlfriends sometimes, while poor paul and chet kind of get stuck with each other by default LMAO

idk if you've seen rise of the pink ladies but there's a scene where the t-birds are talking about their home lives and it's so soc boys coded (if you haven't seen it, it's on the show's tiktok account!!)
