Working on this piece for #clarinet #septet - I have to say it’s a super fun piece which even includes a nice solo for contra-alto! But gah, it’s got this really treacherous interleaved rhythmic part (and it’s super-fast too, q=132-144). Working on Roger Vogel’s Cityscapes, a tone poem about Chattanooga for clarinet septet. It’s actually been quite a while since I played 1st Bb in a clarinet chamber music group, so I just to nail down a few over-the-break technical passages. The suite is actually not terribly difficult ... except for the slow Riverbank movement, which lacks a clear rhythmic pulse or meter for much of it and has some complicated rhythms which you have to just get right by counting really accurately in your head - not easy.
