I've been tagged in this several times now, but I regret to inform everyone that I'm not the type of musician to take anyone for a walk, or a stroll, or a perambulation of any sort. At most, I'm like a nervous museum docent who makes everyone save their questions till the end rather than risk losing their place in the memorized spiel.
I don't improvise, is what I'm saying.
However, I'm happy to recommend someone who can not only take you for a walk but a veritable strut: Don Byron.

do other instrumentalists get calluses like clarinet and guitar players do?
#genuine question#clarinetists get calluses on our thumbs where the clarinet rests#so I was wondering if like flautists or sax players or trombonists maybe get them too?#idk if any other instruments have rests like that#vexic lives

Can we talk about how musicians were undervalued first? We now have people rightfully caring about artists, and writers, and actors, but what about the musicians? This undervaluing of the arts hit musicians first, and I’ve brought it up in different groups before, and received backlash and anything short of understanding.
For a while now music has been produced with technology. For a musician this doesn’t just rankle because the music doesn’t have the same depth and has a tinny sound, but because so many jobs and job opportunities have been lost because of it.
I had one person argue that, “They still get called in for the initial recording so the system can have their notes.”
So just a chromatic scale? Just one session of doing the chromatic scale and that’s all that instrumentalist is used for. That is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than playing full songs in a full orchestra. It is mind-bogglingly different. That’s like studios wanting to call actors in for one day of work to be copied for AI. And this has been going on in the music industry for so long that I’m sure these music libraries aren’t calling in musicians much at all anymore.
Technology started trying to do the job of musicians first, and nobody cared.

My most self-indulgent headcanon is that Terzo plays the clarinet, and that he does the time-honored clarinetist tradition of playing "Rhapsody in Blue" all the goddamn time.
Downside: face-paint make reed look like this

#for those not up on their gershwin it is *the* art deco metropolitan anthem#and also the most iconic clarinet solo of all time#that gliss at the beginning is the clarinetist's mating call#omega fucking hates it#the band ghost#headcanon

if firecracker is taking metoclopramide, i wonder if she's taking it for gerd, diabetes, other nausea reasons (or for something else not in the typical cache)
#the boys#firecracker#i tried rewinding a ton and slowing down to get the dosage but alas. lighting and frenchie's hand did not allow it#and i have newspapers to sort before my interview#i do like her purse (ironically) and i am excited ezekiel is back. i missed that bendy gay homophobe#btw 'other nausea' being like. yknow the typical chemo or morning sickness reasons. but ik it's most often used as a gi stimulant#from what i remember (from my friend rambling at me before she mayyyyy have dropped her pharm program? idk if she dropped it)#(but she stopped talking to me! that clarinetist!)

a bit of a random question, I know, but what do you know about the sälgflöjt ? is it a common/popular aspect of Swedish culture ?
Hej! Unfortunately I don’t think I’ve heard of it before (which is interesting because it feels like something my dad would be very in to) but searching for it online (also sälgpipa which is the same thing) there are a lot of tutorials aimed at schools/scouting groups so it seems people still learn about them and make them. Listening to some examples it also does feel like a quite traditionally Swedish type of music but I can’t remember ever seeing anyone play it.
@ other swedes/nordics please let us know if you know about it!
#one of my best friends is a clarinetist I could ask her if there’s anything specific you want to know that maybe she would know#snicksnack#ask
