milkpaw! for @voidclans! im so excited to share her!

milkpaw is the former medicine cat apprentice and daughter of the leader of sleetclan, a clan that voidclan has a... less than stellar relationship with. after her mentor's crimes of guiding a dog to voidclan's camp and attempting to steal kits, he was blinded by the kits in the nursery. soon after his return, milkpaw saw her chance to escape the cruelty of sleetclan and she took it.

she now resides in voidclan, apprenticed to the very cat that almost had her kits stolen. she's struggling with fitting in, given her former clan's reputation, and it doesn't help that she's troublesome - whether she means to be or not.

Who have been some of your favorite characters from your Clangen save?

Hm... good question. I'm the sort who has trouble keeping to one file, so I hop from file to file. I also use Clangen and challenges from the Discord to write stories, so my favorites tend to be the ones that end up with interesting stories. I'm gonna list out a few of my faves.

I'm gonna add a readmore, this is quite a bit because, per usual, I rambled. (TW: kit death, kidnapping, emotional/physical abuse, kit abandonment)

Flarelilac and Brightgrowl are from one of my files using the Mane Event: Lion Pride challenge, one I play in Genemod. (Long story short, running the clan like a lion pride and treating the cats within accordingly.) They both joined the pride pretty early on and experienced traumas related to their cubs (kits).

Flarelilac was found with newborns, and had to try to hide them from the pride if she wanted to join right away. Only one of that litter survived to adulthood, and a later litter was killed when a new mane (leader male) came to power. She did eventually have a litter grow to adulthood, one of which provided cubs of her own before she died an untimely death to a mass extinction event. One of her offspring is still alive. (The Prarieheart Brightgrowl is disappointed in, funny enough!)

Brightgrowl's story starts before she joined the pride - a new mane was found when the pride needed one, and he brought cubs with him. Brightgrowl generated as the cubs' mother (Genemod always generates a second parent if needed). This mane was... not the nicest around, and I decided he had kidnapped the cubs as a way to punish Brightgrowl for not being perfectly obedient. A few moons later, she found her way to the pride and confronted the mane, who basically blackmailed her into staying using the cubs as emotional leverage.

The two bonded over their traumas over their cubs and the struggles they had as a mother and, after dancing around their feelings for years, ended up as mates, though they never had the chance to raise cubs as lovers. (Tragically, after Brightgrowl's death to yellowcough, Flarelilac moved on from her love the very same moon she died, so they aren't listed as mates in StarClan.)

Pondmane is from the same file, and is the mane of a pride I don't focus on (after my male cubs leave the pride at adulthood, I keep track of their journeys through life using tables and dice to see what happens each moon). He's deaf, but managed to defeat a mane and take over a pride. However, unbeknownst to him, one of the lionesses of the pride was pregnant. She managed to convince him that it was his, even when she gave birth a whole moon "early" and the cubs were perfectly fine and healthy and none particularly resembled him. He's... not the brightest bulb, but he's a sweetheart who dotes on his cubs. (He's also had a litter that actually is his since then iirc.)

In another universe...

Rowanpaw is from an asklocke (an art-focused and audience-interaction-focused challenge) I've been doing in Lifegen, and is currently the only living cat within, as it's also a challenge called One Kit, One Clan where you build a clan from a single kit. Progress has been slow because I've been drawing each moon as it goes, and right now all but casual, unrecorded Clangen is being put on the backburner due to Hero-Partner Week - hence why he's still so young.

Rowanpaw's story hasn't been super dramatic so far, despite his origins - he was abandoned by a mother who felt herself unsuited to have kits, but StarClan guided her to leave her one kit in "forbidden territory" where long ago, lost to history, a clan used to reside. He's not aware of this, though, as he was raised from newborn age by a StarClan cat, including being sustained on their energy until he reached his sixth moon.

In another Lifegen universe is my other Mane Event story - this one is combined with a reincarnation challenge. I have a couple favorites in this one.

In the lore, healers (medicine cats) have the ability to see if a cub is a reincarnation by looking into their eyes. However, Dovesight is an oddity in that she doesn't have this ability, normally given to healers when they finish their training. This is because, instead of being blessed by the Eternal Pride (StarClan) she was tricked into following the Eternal Dry (Dark Forest) - mostly because the father she loved (Rustmane) ended up there for being a bit of a dickhead who wasn't afraid to enforce pride rules (killing cubs that weren't his by blood) and being harsh to his lionesses (by physically harming them to "discipline" - this is actually what caused his death. Eat shit, Rustmane!!)

Dovesight witnessed all that, but still held fondness for her father, which is what led to him being able to trick her. Normally, lions who end up in the Eternal Dry are unable to reincarnate; however, with Dovesight, there's a slim chance. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm excited for when it does.

Galestorm is also an exception to a rule: most reincarnations don't have distinct memories of their past lives. Galestorm though... she remembers her previous life, in which she was an apprentice who had to flee her pride and go into hiding when Bitternmane took it over, lest she faced her death at his claws. But when he caught her a couple moons later, she was so enraged at this that she attacked him, leading to him killing her in self-defense. When the lionesses found her death site, they gave her the name Galestrike to carry to the Eternal Pride.

A few moons later, Bitternmane's first cubs were born, and one of them carried her spirit. Galecub had bad feelings about her father, but a bout of heat exhaustion as an apprentice unlocked her memories in full. Now, she's biding her time and training to get stronger to avenge her own death - not an easy task as a sole lioness who isn't even supposed to fight except in self-defense against a mane in his prime who earned his position the hard way. The lions of the Eternal Dry have wormed their way into her head and have convinced her that they'll help her get her justice. Now she's an adult, but a very young one. It's not time yet, but she can wait.

Oh, and I simply can't forget the hilarious story of Stagleaf!

In my Lifegen Mane Event, I forgot to mention it was also a Loner Challenge - similar to Mane Event, but you can have multiple kits. (And I expanded it to include apprentices.) For a while, in-story, my founders weren't organized into a proper pride. It was only when Stagleaf joined that they had an adult to encourage them to properly declare themselves a pride with a mane and everything. She provided valuable services to the pride and died to greencough in a flourishing pride. As this is my pride with reincarnation, she reincarnated into a cub name Stag... who ended up washed away from the pride as an apprentice, spending moons as a nomad with little to no company (and quite a few trials and tribulations) before ended up finding one of his old friends, who had become a pride's mane and welcomed him in as a co-mane.

Later, in my other Mane Event story, I had a newcomer join who, I kid you not, came with the name Stagleaf. She hasn't been incredibly significant to the pride yet, having only arrived a few moons ago and having spent most of that time frostbitten, but in my personal canon, part of Stagleaf I's spirit broke off from the rest and ended up crossing universes. I like her both because of that - like, what at the chances??? - and because she's just pretty in this incarnation.

Charpaw has grown into an adult. Squirrelpaw & Rosypaw have become apprentices.

The clan decides together that the kits should be apprenticed to the two cats who have life experience. Charpaw, the only other warrior apprentice, does not receive a mentor. The clan figures they are almost done with training and will not need one, and Charpaw figures it is too late for them to train under someone else. Maybe they are a lost cause.

Prologue - Moon 0 - Leaf-Bare

Hi guys, this is by far the longest writing of the series, idk why i started it with BLOCKS of text but here ya go, eat up kids.

Crack, huff, huff, huff, snap, rustle.

A streak of white bounds through the gnarled forest. Her paws snap twigs. Her breaths are heavy. She catches the scent of wolves again and twitches her whiskers. She makes a sharp turn to the left, slamming through thorned bushes. She has to run far enough that they won't be able to follow. She has to.

Huff, huff, huff, rustle.

Her warm breath clouds the frosted air. In her mouth she holds two kits by their scruff. She stops running and starts to pay attention to where she steps, trying not to leave a trail.

A howl sounds out behind her. It echoes off the mountains and into the dark night. Its far. . . far enough.

Her silver eyes glint in the dark. There! That will work! She places the two kits into the hallow of a large aspen tree. It's dark markings staring down at her, in the shape of many eyes. This will have to do. The white cat knows she doesn't have much time, but also knows the kits will freeze without a mother. She rips off some branches of a nearby berry bush and places them in the hallow. That should keep them warm, and fed, at least until I come back.

"Galekit, Charkit, you will have to take care of each other for now," Her voice was raspy, partially from the running, and partially from age.

"Silverchill…?" Galekit looks up at the elder cat.

"Now listen to me close," Silverchill said, still gathering branches.

"You will have to be dead quiet until the howling stops, you will have to keep each other warm, and you should not leave this spot until I return." Charkit nodded, too young to fully understand what was going on.

"You can eat these," Silverchill nodded at the purple berries.

"And…" Silverchill paused, considering her words.

"If I'm not back in three nights, you will have to learn how to survive on your own."

"No! No I can't!" Galekit's eyes started watering. Charkit whimpered. Silverchill curled up to the kits to comfort them.

"Shhh, I'll be back, you won't have to. Its a just-in-case, you remember talking about just-in-case?" The kits nodded.

"Now remember this just-in-case too…" Silverchill started humming an old tune. She would have to change the words a little, but it would work.

"There is a thunderpath to your north, and a creek to your south, and you can learn a lot from nature, even from a mouse," She sang these words, knowing that kits always remember a song better than anything else.

Silverchill got up from her snuggle spot, her time was up. She knew she had to go back and help the clan, or whatever was left of the clan.

"Goodbye my mouses, I'll see you in a few nights." Silverchill walked off calmly until the edge of the clearing, and looked back one last time. I hope these kits make it. What would have happened if I wasn't watching them in the nursery? She knew there was no time for pondering, or wasn'ts. As soon as she knew the kits couldn't see she started running, and she didn't slow down for anything.

Charkit stared up into the patches night sky in the aspen tree's canopy. Galekit cuddled against her trying not to start crying again. They looked at each other, they were alone, but they were alone together.

Silverchill never returned. In the coming days the kits learned from the mice in the area and started to burrow under the big aspen tree. They treated the project like fort building, and though it was hard work for kits they still played in the snow and collected fun-shaped twigs. Since this was their new home they decided to give themselves a name, Mouseclan.

All cuddled together at the end of a long day Galekit looked over to the quiet Charkit, "We did good Mouseclan." Charkit looked up to him in admiration and nodded.

"Can you tell me another story Galekit?" She whispered.

"Yeah! So one time there was this big bear…." Galekit's voice faded into the wind.

🐀 Mouseclan is on hiatus for the summer while I am away doing seasonal work. It will be back!

Hi guys! I started Mouseclan so I could get better at drawing cats & have fun with story telling! Which btw the art style changes around moon 8, to my current style where I get to play with ✨ shapes & colors ✨ it also gets a lot less writing heavy. Erm, thanks for reading.

My Artlocke Rules

-One doodle per moon minimum. (And one doodle per irl month minimum too!)

-I’ll draw every cat that joins the clan!

-Sprite changes get colored.

-Big announcements may also get colored, it depends.

-I’ll usually add blurbs of writing with each moon, writing longer bits for moons I find interesting.

As for the settings in the game, I won’t type them here because they probably will change throughout the game. However, I do have “pregnancy ignores biology” off, I prefer a more realistic playthrough. I also will try and follow most of the rules of the loner challenge and not force any romance / roles. I’m playing in classic mode. 

I will not interfere MUCH with these guys. I will not be forcing mates, murder, promotions, etc. I WILL use mediators to influence relationships IF I feel the need!

More Branchpath bc y’all seem to love the grumpy mama.

I should have made her look a bit older, but she is a 104 moon old warrior who just recently was a kitty pet. After falling pregnant, her two-legs took away her single weak kit. She left her home searching for her daughter and found her taken in by Voidclan. Her daughter was named Ravenkit, and she renamed herself Branchpath to represent the many paths and choices one has in life. She has he grumpy trait and unnatural senses skill. <3

Chapter 1 - Moon 8 - Green Leaf

Ummmm.....new art style!! Hope y'all like it. It's more fun.

Another peaceful Green Leaf moon. Galepaw goes on patrol alone, maybe finally learning his lesson. He can't get work done when they're around. They never end up finding anything together.

He goes alone to collect leaves from a large and full oak. Stretching upwards, he prays to the oak, encouraging it to grow to its full potential. You'll do great, you'll grow big and strong, thank you for your leaves.

Charpaw also goes on patrol alone, leaving the clan undefended, but they don't think about that, having not grown up in a regular clan. They go into an area of tall grass and catch the scent of another cat. Their head is spinning, are they dangerous, a new ally, what if they go into the camp? Peaking out over the tall grass Charpaw catches a dark glimmer of fur in the grass and bounds towards it to introduce herself and hopefully avoid an altercation. "Hey!" It's too late, the cat is gone. All is left is the pawprint in the soft ground. Sniffing at it Charpaw realizes the cat has been in an area with many cats…and snakes…some kind of clan.

When Charpaw returns home to camp she details the patrol to Galepaw and they both decide they should not leave the camp at the same time again. Charpaw notices the large haul of oak leaves and compliments Galepaw on his hard work. Galepaw appreciates the compliment, thinking that Charpaw had been really nice to them recently.

Later Galepaw sees Charpaw catch a fat mouse inside camp and congratulates them on the good catch, bringing this moon to a close.
