had enough energy while recovering for some quick headshots, so i did a spin on that 'give me 6 clangens' thing & just drew some characters from different comics i've read & been inspired by c:

WILDFIRECRY (@loudclan-clangen) - im still not recovered from You Know What but his revenge bit was both badass and cathartic. the artists who can commit to character deaths are always really impressive to me!

HERONSTAR (@juniper-clan) - i've been dying to draw heron since she got her adult glo-up, i think her design is really fun. simple & strikingly effective! her very specific fur design was a nice challenge (i hope i got it right).

SNAILSTEP (@snailstep-and-her-clan) - i couldn't not draw the titular girl, especially when she inspired me to start this blog!! i really love her wild mane of fur so much & it was delightful to draw.

RUNNINGSTAR (@darkest-before-dawnclan) - i had a hard time picking just one character since they're all so interesting & well designed... but i ended up going with an as-yet only briefly shown character bc i really vibed with him!

VANILLABRIGHT (@moons-of-dewclan) - i don't know if i could ever do these characters justice, but dewclan is a longtime fav, and i love seeing other adult warriors fans, haha. i know the comic is kind of on hiatus, but i look forward to seeing whatever comes next!

CLOWNWISH (@circus-clangen) - absolutely a must-draw here, the setup for this clan is so unique & fun & the puzzles are just so creative! i haven't solved a single one bc i suck at puzzles, but still a huge inspo for me.

i'm always excited to see what other clangens pop up in the tags, i know most of these are more popular ones, but i'm hoping i get to draw fanart of some off the lesser-known ones soon!

Comic Swap: First Gathering

This scene is brought to you by the talented D from @loudclan-clangen as part of a comic swap, (where we each wrote a script for a comic and had the other draw it) go check out my half of the swap on their blog!

Tanglepaw got one up on his littermates by being the first to go to a full moon gathering, yippee! I imagine that Strikepaw and Pinepaw got in trouble and so were not allowed to go, so it was less out of his own talent and more of his brothers inability to not get up to dumb shit lmao - but a win is a win!

Tanglepaw does not have a scar, he was actually born with a birthmark that left a part of his face bald.

A good thing his brothers didn't come to the gathering, I expect that they would have called him out on lying about his "battle scar" and would have absolutely taken the piss until he would be too humiliated to ever attend another gathering.

MOON 09.

Starring: Dashpaw (BuddingClan), Cliffstripe (BuddingClan), Amberpaw (BuddingClan), Flippaw (BuddingClan), Cougarkit (BuddingClan), Cowkit (BuddingClan), Pinekit (BuddingClan)

“May all cats of BuddingClan gather beneath the Echoed Stones for a clan meeting!”

The words were more familiar now, not feeling so much like a kit playing pretend. Cliffstripe sat confidently atop the towers of stone, reminding himself of how unstable he was the last time he called to the clan.

Amberpaw and Dashpaw were the first to arrive; they offered for Flippaw to stay in the den recovering, still unable to put weight on her injured leg, but she insisted that she’d be there. The sound of kittenspeak alerted the group to the final apprentice’s arrival, an apologetic grin crossing her face as the trio of kittens stumble their way into the clearing.

“Sorry guys, I couldn’t stop them from following me.” She meows, carefully limping to a spot besides Amberpaw.

Pinekit is quick to start pawing at Amberpaw’s cheek fur, looking up at her with large, kitten-blue eyes. “Where been?” She squeaks, sniffing deeply into Amberpaw’s chest. “Smelly.” The kitten backs away, her mouth agape and filled with the new scent.

“Checking the borders.” Amberpaw meows simply, bending down to lick Pinekit’s forehead. “Come here, you can sit in my tail while Cliffstripe talks.” The mottled brown and white she-kit seems to think about the offer for a moment before tottling over and disappearing behind Amberpaw’s abundant fur.

Cougarkit remains by Flippaw’s side as she settles down, Cowkit preoccupied by the apprentice’s waving tail. “Now you guys promised you’d be quiet, right?” The first of the two nods quickly, placing a paw over his mouth in acknowledgement -- the latter remains quiet, focused on Flippaw’s tail.

“If Cowkit causes you trouble, send her over and I can sit on her.” Dashpaw teases, making eye-contact with the kit who shrinks somewhat before moving to sit on Flippaw’s other side.

“Well, no worries, Flippaw. It’s hard when there’s no one else who can watch them.” Cliffstripe speaks up, seeing everyone finally settle. “Without further ado…”

The ginger tom nods to Dashpaw, who raises when Cliffstripe begins.

“Dashpaw, you have trained diligently and have far proven yourself ready for your warrior name. I call down upon our ancestors to look down upon you, and commend you as a full-fledged warrior of BuddingClan. Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend this clan with your life?”

Uncharacteristically serious, Dashpaw nods. “I do.”

“Then, from this day forward you will be known as Dashrabbit; BuddingClan honors your charisma and ability to think fast in dire situations.” Cliffstripe would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little nervous; was naming in honor of Rabbitsnow the right thing? Was that insensitive? He steals a glance at Dashrabbit, who seemed to be gazing upward, eyes brimming with pride.

“Amberpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend this clan even at the cost of your life?”

“I do.” Though she remains seated, Amberpaw’s chest is puffed out, back straight.

“From today, you will be known as Amberhare. BuddingClan welcomes you as a full warrior and honors you for your drive to help others.”

Flippaw is the first to erupt with cheer, to be met by a confused and startled Cougarkit, who thought they needed to be quiet. Before long, Cowkit and Pinekit join in the merrimaking, cheering the new names even if they didn’t fully understand what all of this meant. Cliffstripe descends from the stones, bumping roughly into Dashrabbit’s shoulder, and then slightly less roughly into Amberhare’s. “Congratulations. I know you'll do great."

ALLEGIANCES (2) LOWER RANK

(the final installment! Character expanse under the cut.)

COOT

A lead warrior, she joined with her partner Parsley after finding out she was pregnant. Parsley knew they couldn’t stay with their house folk anymore due to lack of food and the fear of being separated from their kits, and needed community. Coot knew it was only a matter of time before something happened, and so she and Parsley took all they could and left. Ever since she’s taken up in the colony she’s proven herself as a formidable strategist and warrior, being Crows first in command and successor to the deputy position. With the loss of her partner, she is in shambles. Though strong willed; She will make sure their daughter knows her father.

RAIN

An old Molly, she’s joined with her daughter Fog after being a wandering soul her whole life. Her bones are weary and she feels herself slowing down, and doesn’t want her daughter to be lonelier as she is. Although a grizzled soul, she is kind and loving to her peers. She can fit through plenty nooks and crannies, which have proven helpful in the colonies travels whenever someone has gotten buried or something is high up. She keeps the boys and kittens busy with her tales, so her groupmates can talk serious matters. Though not a fighter, hunter or healer, she has proven invaluable in morale and support.

FOG

She’s quiet, and rather eerie compared to her friendly clanmates. She’s stoic but once she has something to stick by she puts the entirety of herself into it. These include rules, wanting to make sure her friends and family are the safest they can be. Though seemingly nothing but a living wall, she’s taken up the skill of her mothers words and often tells the kittens and Crow tales from before. Including their struggles, which she especially drills into the children to make sure they’re wary and cautious. Raven is often the most receptive of these stories, and helps Crane teach him survival skills.

MISTLETOE

Though not a Queen, she’s often found in the kittens den. She is a primary caretaker alongside Rain and any nursing mothers. She’s also quite independent, despite joining the group. She helps Coot come up with plans, though is more of a “good cop” to Coots harsh demeanor. She chose to leave her previous groups on her own terms, including her twolegs. She’s a wandering spirit, and clashes with Fog often; as she believes some rules are meant to be broken. She’s decided to stay for now, as she’s grown quite attached to the kids and is intrigued by Trouts “prophecies”.

SHADOW & MONKEY

Littermates found by Crane and Raven, they are considered family by most of the group. Shadow is the more curious one, ready to challenge the norm and new things. Though quiet, he’s firm to whatever beliefs a little kitten is able to have. This is in contrast to Monkey, who’s more reserved and often goes off on her own. She has this urge for something more, and hates being cooped up with Mistletoe. Monkey is the only one that wonders about their mother, and is tired of moving.

ASPHODEL

An old man, he joined with Daffodil with hopes of settling in his old age with his best friend. Though they haven’t settled yet, he wouldn’t leave everyone now. He’s set on staying and actually likes the more secure adventure. Daffodil wanted to leave at first, but the two could never separate. He’s an optimistic old fool, and quite the charmer! He’s seen so many things, and wouldn’t change it for the world. He hopes his last stop will be with more friends than he’s ever had.

CORMORANT

A quiet young man, he’s mostly unspeaking as Fog is. A best friend to Raven, he’s surprisingly a kindhearted soul. He’s a great listener, and doesn’t mind his clanmates talking to him for ages. For this reason he’s grown to be knowledgeable, and continues to learn more from his best friend Raven. With Crowflower as his mentor, he’s become quite the fighter and swimmer. As far as Raven knows, he used to be a Waverider as Trout was; so maybe he was always able to swim. He’s not very outward about his goals or reasons, but he hopes to have a home again. In the beauty of the water.

DAFFODIL

A cranky old coot, he was a Waverider for a long time before coming across Asphodel in his youth; and they went off without a hitch. He’s more stubborn than he was in his youth, and he firmly believe that attitude has kept them alive. A great fighter and adept swimmer, he’s done the bulk of the fighting for the duo. Plenty of scars are hidden beneath his raggedy fur, and takes pride in them. He and Fog are often the enforcers, though Daff is moreso a judgemental old grandpa talking to his grandkid. Though rough, he firmly believes in Trout; and despite initial doubts, he’d like to see this through.
