MANICARAJ RESIDENCE , VYASARPADI, CHENNAI, TAMILNADU
This residence in Vyasarpadi has been meticulously designed to meet the needs of a family of two brothers, comprising 4 houses. The client is engaged in a well-established scrap business. Upon the closure of the factory, they acquired fire kiln bricks that had been present for over 30 years. These bricks were of different shapes like T-shaped, Cylindrical shaped, L-shaped and Rectangular shaped.
By incorporating these salvaged old bricks into the design, we were able to achieve a practical and visually appealing solution that aligns with modern sustainability goals. The strategic placement of the bricks ensures proper indoor ventilation and allows natural light to filter in, reducing the dependence on artificial lighting and enhancing the overall living environment.
The balcony openings have been incorporated with an organic arrangement of the fire kiln bricks which brings out a smooth seamless emphasis on the building from its surroundings.
Adjacent to the parking area, traditional thinnai spaces offer charming outdoor seating areas, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the residence. Upon entry, a living space with thinnai-style sofas creates a minimalist interior in the sunken space, with the entire living area sunken. the triple storey height providing natural light and ventilation to all interior spaces of the building, covered at the top with glass.
The central courtyard, featuring traditional thinnai seating and green courts, acts as a focal point for natural light, creating a serene space for relaxation and social gatherings.Landscaping on the terrace enhances visual appeal and transforms the space into a more enjoyable and functional outdoor area. The yellow and white marble used in this residence gives the space a sophisticated and elegant look, adding warmth and brightness while enhancing the overall luxury and value of the home. This project not only embodies contemporary style but also underscores the importance of sustainability.

Aadaleesan Residence at Thanjavur
Situated on a linear plot measuring 3457 sq. ft is a regional traditional dream house in Thanjavur. This architectural intervention has found its place in an inner residential zone, serving as a reminder of our traditional vernacular architecture infused with a modern twist. The layout of this linear plot has been meticulously planned to create a seamless flow, with interconnected spaces abound. To ensure a consistent visual appeal, courts have been strategically positioned along the periphery rather than in between. These sun courts and green courts allow natural light to permeate the house all day long. Thinnai spaces have been integrated around these courts, paying homage to the essence of vernacular courtyard house styles. Upon entry, the warm color palette immediately sets a lively and welcoming tone. The inclusion of thinnai spaces in the foyer and living areas adds a relaxed touch for the occupants. The Double height living area and play area are bathed in sunlight from three sides by sun courts, fostering a bright and airy ambiance that seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces. Pergolas have been installed above all these courts to enhance security. A clear visual connection runs from the living area to the sunken play area, the reading area on the mezzanine, the dining area with the kitchen, and all the corridors linking the bedrooms on the first floor. The Mother's room is strategically positioned at the intersection of the internal space and the external entry zone, providing a vantage point for overseeing all activities in and around the house. Opening up to a green space along the front line, the Mother's room offers a serene retreat. The remaining bedrooms are situated on the first floor, connected by an open passageway overlooking the double-height area. Corridors and balconies are adorned with camp jaali work along the exterior, ensuring privacy from outside views while allowing occupants to enjoy the surroundings. Built-in cement furniture throughout the house complements the structure and reduces the need for additional furniture purchases. Materials such as aathangudi tiles, terracotta tiles, porotherm bricks, and exposed concrete enhance the warm and rustic aesthetic of traditional regional architecture. A modern twist is introduced through the use of geometric patterns in the aathangudi tiles, creating a playful contrast with the yellow tiles. Breathable porotherm bricks are used for wall construction, offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution. Reused terracotta tiles are incorporated into the construction of the compound wall using Random rubble masonry, elevating the traditional exterior aesthetic.

The APWCT School, tucked away from the city buzz in a semi-urban area Melmaruvathur was designed with a sense of locality and as a user-centric design. The school creates a dialogue with the surroundings of the site, as the team produced a building for the modern era which manages to also remain firmly rooted in the vernacular traditions of India’s past. Designing a school is always exciting and challenging at the same time, since it is about dealing with the energy of children of different age groups, from nursery kids to adolescent teens. Each age group has specific psychological and physical needs which have implications on architecture and conceiving of spaces. While designing schools, architecture offers immense potential and freedom, which also needs to be accompanied by understanding and observations on how children use and experience space through the years which we have tried to integrate in this school. There are also different kinds of needs and curiosities that have to be met - to allow the young child to try and catch a ray of sunlight in their hands, for older children to have space for studying alone or in group, spaces for individual teaching. The main objective was to create a connect between the green spaces and the built-up, to bring the children closer to the nature. An interplay of light and shadows was achieved with large openings and brick screen walls. The provision for natural light into each classroom has facilitated in making the building a sustainable design. The classrooms are placed around central courtyards which introduces green spaces into the built environment and also favours in maintaining the thermal comfort by inducing stack effect. All the spaces are naturally ventilated and lit. The corridors act as interaction spaces apart from connecting the different blocks. The corridors were designed to make them look joyful. There is a play of volume and light along the corridor. The corridors weave through the spaces connecting through the spaces in a linear fashion, with the courtyards visually breaking the linearity and forming buffer zones by bringing in the green spaces. Informal seating in the courtyards make the entire building lively. On the whole with its unique architecture ,the classroom block connects and communicates with the students in a way which will create a lasting impression in their journey of life.

HARVEE SCHOOL AT COIMBATORE
Quoting Frank Gehry - “Architecture and any art can transform a person even save someone. It can for children- for anyone. It still does for me.”
Designing a school is always exciting and challenging at the same time, since it deals with the energy of children of different age groups, from nursery kids to adolescent teens. With age-specific physical and psychological needs comes a great responsibility in configuring spaces. Experiential layer plays a major role in this design, integrating spaces in school with relation to the way children have used and experienced spaces till now. The school is designed in a way that it skillfully integrates the needs and curiosities that are to be met - to allow the young child to try and catch a ray of sunlight in their hands, for the older children to have space for studying alone or in a group with spaces for individual teaching also provided.
The access to the school is through an 'arched entry' with an inclined wall adjacent to it, accentuating the overall meticulously designed organic structure. The amphitheatre is fabricated in a curvilinear style along the span of the perforated wall in the east, which doubles as both prayer and gathering space. The entry leads to the courtyard, which is greeted by a flight of stairs sculpturally spiraling to the floors above. The classrooms are arranged along the periphery with arching or curved fenestrations that challenge archetype designs allowing ample sunlight into the classrooms in addition to the perforated wall to the east. The mud wall finish inside the classrooms, exposed brick and concrete with jali patterns in the elevation, add an earthy touch to the bright colours that are incorporated in the interiors of the building to cheer up the mood and to subjectively taper the otherwise voluminous structure. The flooring integrates materials such as dirty Kota, Kota, white marble and kadappa allowing for flowing patterns that are designed in the entry counting to the already existing organic composition. The upper floors, offset and project outwards, each along a different curve, adding layers to the organic fabric of the structure. The central court has an informal seating space, with varied levels of seating for the users, with the students being able to be monitored by the teachers. The introverted planning helps in provision of security with the central courtyard helping in facilitating a visual connection in the vertical aspect  to monitor the entire space.

Mr.ArunSelvaganapathy Residence at ECR
A home is said to be composed of love, hope and dreams. Arun selvaganapathy's residence at Injambakkam stands true to this phrase. The client Mr.Arun Selvaganapathy previously based in U.S and his wife Gayathri Arun Selvaganapathy with their kids Lucky and Eshwar intend to live with their parents.
They wanted an exemplary house within the surrounding area. The spaces designed by our team amalgamated into the elevation that stood a strong statement to the overall structure standing merit to our team's goal of delivering a form that was futuristic and dynamic. The overall planning emphasized that it doesn't pose a danger to the existing vegetation.
The foundation laid in the east corners were in accordance with the placement of trees in order to not disrupt the on-site vegetation. The huge setback space on the front is used as a multipurpose family space with integrated hardscape and softscape. The planning of the house encourages maximum connectivity with each and every space being interlinked with one another forming small pockets for gatherings at each floor level that is raised. The ground floor accommodates the family lounge, guest bedroom, kitchen and  mutram space near Amma's bedroom where the family can meet, interact and enjoy throughout the day.
The stairs from the Muttram then lead to the mezzanine floor that is designed as a viewing deck taking advantage of the stunning views of the pool and other areas of the house. The mezzanine then leads to the first floor that accommodates the home-office of the client, the master bedroom and bedroom of the kids. The personal office space separated from the master bedroom by a partition wall, apart from being his official arena, makes space for chit chats of the couple with levelled seating and flexible partition being provided. The bedrooms of the kids are provided with levelled seating that acts as their private getaway. The viewing deck area designed in between their bedrooms acts as a connecting element - a privatised space for them to interact.
The visual transparency is introduced by double height spaces and a viewing deck that provides direct views to the pool and other areas of the house. By creating two distinct cubes that fabricate the sides of the residence, a strong statement of the solids amongst nature stood established. Over-all the residence was designed to reflect the client's character and alongside serve as an example of a structure that is avant-garde and affable.

Dr.Krishnamoorthy Residence at Sathyamangalam.
Dr. Krishnamoorthy is a young, reputed doctor whose association with MA goes a long way. This esteemed journey with the client began when we were first approached for Dr. Krishnamoorthy's hospital where we worked in unison for his laboratory too. Him, approaching us for the project of his residence, authenticates his trust in us. This residence was a challenging project given the client's solid belief in Vastu but that didn't restrict us from exploring spaces both structural and form-wise. The facade stands testimony to the fluid-flow forms that were attempted and engineered with perfection. The colour palette emits an earthy tinge which is elevated further by the greenery spread all wide. This 9000 sq.ft house accommodates a Muttram (courtyard), which is a free-flowing space that can be noted for the absence of columns allowing uninhibited circulation and it also allows ample sunlight inside the house, providing for the connection of the inhabitants with nature. The Pooja room of this household is one to catch sight of, with the light entering through the skylight escalating the sense of divinity adding to the experience of being inside a temple. The rooms are spacious and are planned in accordance with vastu connected by a lot of open courts in between adhering to the natural aura it radiates.

We are happy to share with you our new adventure with bricks. A search for newness with composite construction technique. Here It is!, This is a great step, coming out of the indigenous way and breaking into novelty. And all this was extremely new for us and challenging. This dynamic Brick house is designed for an Energetic person and his family with only one Daughter. thank you mrs n mr @vinod sir and family for giving us a chance to work on your home in 2600 sq feet land ,site. This house plays with Multi level floors connecting through open courtyards and glass floors creating spaces with in a space. The façade brings out the dynamic side of the bricks. They unveil the frozen state of the bricks in a new dimension and yet the sturdiness of the bricks is so set out by their genuine exposed skin. This is a whole new chapter and a whole new attempt. It is not just the façade which speaks out for itself, but also the well-ventilated interiors, where the play of light creates statements in every face of the inner brick walls. And to make it more lively the pocketed green courts as spaces of spotlights in the earthy visuals. It is a balanced mix of both contemporary and tradition gifting us with a new future with tradition carried forward along. The Ground level connects the family living and Kitchen with the view of a Swimming pool connected through central courtyard. Mezzanine floor compasses a Guest room and an entertainment room as a Family lounge for them to spend their Times to together. First floor accommodates two bedrooms. A Master bedroom with a landscape court and Private balcony on either side and a Daughter bedroom with an elongated Bay window with Featured inclined wall with in the bedroom. On the whole, this brick dream house stands with a lot of characters speaking out and a lot more to unfold in the future.

INCLINED BRICK HOUSE AT COIMBATORE
CAN THE BRICKS BE CONSTRUCTED IN AN INCLINED MANNER ??? Can the bricks stay stable, inclined?. A search for newness with composite construction technique. Here It is!, An Ongoing site experimentation where brick walls and columns, together found a new dimension. This is a great step, coming out of the indigenous way and breaking into novelty. And all this was extremely new for us and challenging...   There were times when making exposed concrete walls were difficult, But the Journey of striving towards newness made that easy and brought us here. Here! Where we put ourselves in a situation of making brick walls in an inclined manner. These external inclined brick walls are put together with metal brackets wrapped with thin 4 inches thick "on-site poured concrete". And they run along at every 4 layers of the brick course around the inclined column. This is a whole new chapter and a whole new attempt. We are enthralled yet anxious too !!!! ... Oh yes! let's wait for it! :):)

Reviving Culture with Kund spaces

Every family requires a special place in their house to ease and relax. These places of ease should end up in healthy conversation within the family. KUND SPACES are more into satisfying this theory. These can be blended in common spaces such as extension of a staircase, at welcome spaces, seaters in informal spaces which not only acts as a normal element but adds beauty to the space by making it a feature element. Kund spaces are also combined with green elements, water bodies adding aesthetics to the built form. The concept is been inspired from the visionary architect Charles Correa who says
" Architecture is a sculpture, but a sculpture that is put to use".

ARCHITECTURE LIVES WITH NATURE
“We borrow from nature the space upon which we build”
- Tadao Ando
We are never alone when we are connected with nature. Nature is a driving force in Architecture design. Green spaces prove beneficial to building occupants, and even the building itself stands to benefit. A reciprocal relationship between architecture and its environment.
Plants and trees help filter out harmful air pollution, including airborne particulate matter, Water spots moderates temperature. It also improves aesthetics. Green space is a space for retreat. Green elements contribute as a major design feature from the traditional times. We speculate buildings to breathe along with nature and so tend to consciously follow green principles in our design.
"Architecture is the art built with nature, nature being given greater importance."
We have shared some of our projects, in which we have incorporated green elements and principles in our design.

BALAKRISHNAN’S RESIDENCE, KUMARAPALAYAM
Mr.Balakrishnan, Mrs.Nandhini and their daughter a family of three, decided to design a exquisite home for their elderly parents in Kumarapalayam a small town near Bhavani. They wanted the house to be a beautiful residing spot for their parents, it should also serve as a wonderful vacation place when they visit from Muscat. They have lots of cousins and relatives around the same town, so their concentration is more on family space than formal living. Different types of age groups, elderly people who like to converse with Mr.Balakrishnan’s parents, mid age group members who tend to be of the same age group as Mr.Balakrishnan and Mrs.Nandhini, Young teens like their daughter and her cousins. The house should serve as a comfortable space for all such age groups. Their main demand was to ensure security since elderly families only lived around. So the house was well secured by various courtyards. The external courtyards were covered by pergolas. They are also nature loving people but they didn’t want much greenery inside the house for easy maintenance, so external space around the house was beautifully landscaped by Mr.Jeyakumar landscape architect. The front part has an entry pavilion and a small lily pond where his parents could have a walk, sit and relax briefly. Similarly the car parking area is beautifully done so as to accommodate social gatherings. The space will act as a social setting were men would like to sit and have nice conversations. A beautiful garden in the front were children can play. Ground floor contains two bedrooms. The house also serves for Mr.Balakrishnan’s younger sister who visits from Salem during family gatherings, and for her children who can have great vacations at their grandparents house. Mr.Balakrishnan’s brother in law can also spend remarkable time with his friends in thinnai, courtyard and other spaces which retains privacy. The family room is also visually connected to Mr.Balakrishnan’s sister room. Her room has a courtyard inside the toilet which imparts natural light.
