Our newest episode discussing the first half of MARS with @lucyinbookland of @clampcastpod is out now!
We continue our melodrama mood with the late 1990s/early 2000s series, MARS. Kira Aso is a quiet girl who loves to paint. Rei is a bad boy who loves to race motorcycles. Naturally they fall in love, and all the dark secrets come out about them both. Shojo & Tell host Ashley and Clampcast in Wonderland co-host Lucy discuss what makes this series so gripping despite it being over the top, how iconic the art is, the portrayal of America, how cute Rei and Kira are, and much more.

CW: child abuse, self-harm, blood, gore, death, assault, and other grisly things. Also a potentially glib/dark humor approach to grim subjects. We joke about death a lot (it’s one of those laugh-so-you-don’t-cry things).

Talking Dolls (lesser known &/or vintage fashion doll lines)*
Lore School @Loreschoolpod (Monster High, explores the folklore characters are based off more than talking about the show/films)
I Will Fight You @crookedrussiancam (made by the hosts of The Jem Jam, general pop culture commentary, focused primarily but not exclusively on 80s/90s/00s media aimed at/popular with teen girls & young women, as well as online fandom culture)
If you like ttrpg podcasts, the Jem Jam/I Will Fight You hosts also have a Spelljammer (DnD space fantasy a la Treasure Planet) show, JemJammer. It's extremely gay (the 3 main hosts are all sapphic), leans unashamedly into chick-lit romance cliches, & even features a recurring mini series where they read bad erotica excerpts in-character (which is uploaded separately from the main episodes, so you can skip them if that's not your thing).
Can anyone recommend podcasts like The Pink Aisle by @henrykathman ? Podcasts that discuss nostalgic kids media or other franchises marketed to girls (so, like Monster High, brats, my scene, tinker bell/pixie hollow stuff. Obviously these things aren’t only for girls but hopefully you know why I mean by marketed to little girls) from an adult perspective?

July 31st, 2020′s podcast episode covers all of PARADISE KISS by Ai Yazawa.
Covers all of PARADISE KISS by Ai Yazawa. Welcome to the world of high fashion (or at least, high drama). PARADISE KISS is one of those rare josei titles that got released in English, and it had a huge impact on this episode's special guests, Robin and Lucy (who host the podcast @clampcastpod). Ai Yazawa's work is relatable in many ways, and really inspired Shojo & Tell host Ashley to want to make some art after reading it. In the podcast, Robin, Lucy, and Ashley discuss the connection between creating art and creating life and how creators have limited control, the weight of expectations, the manga's amazing and frustrating LGBTQIA+ inclusions, how PARADISE KISS may or may not have influenced Akiko Higashimura's PRINCESS JELLYFISH, and much, much more. This episode is long, because we just love Isabella, Yukari, Miwako, Hiroyuki, Arashi, and even George, way too much.
