I just finished Vanilla Bean Vengeance which is the first book in @agathafrost Claire's Candles Cozy Mystery series. There are 6 books in the series so far I recently discovered this author and she writes another series also that I now want to read. I loved that this amateur sleuth's career was non culinary, bookish, crafting. Claire's dream is to one day own her very own candle business but her bank account tells her that dream is just that a dream so she works at the Northash's largest employer Warton's Candles and continues to dream. Claire suddenly finds herself witnessing a murder when she sees the owner of the factory fall (pushed) to her death. Now she finds herself along with her friend Damon and her retired Detective Inspector father trying to find the killer before she and her job are snuffed out. This was such a great book. The author did a great job developing the characters with just enough backstory. Great character development. The one negative for me was Claire's seemingly being content to dream about having her own business but that's it. She has a lack of drive nor do I appreciate her being this really frumpy plus size woman. Again as a plus size woman I exercise and I am neither frumpy or ordinary in anyway so it's said that the author uses these stereotypes. Overall I loved the book so much I just ordered the second book in this series and I am really hoping to see Claire grow as I read this series. So excited to finally be reading the first book in @agathafrost Claire's Candles Cozy Mystery. This book has been on my TBR pile for a few months.
