Light as a Feather
Read on AO3
“What if we tried light as a feather stiff as a board?” Clary poses as the rest of the girls all fall into the circle beside her. Candles light the room the house so quiet with her parents out for the night all she can hear is the sound of the crickets outside and the light flickering flames of the cluster of tall purple candles beside her.
“What’s that?” Maia, the newest member of their little coven asks. Clary had been the first one to spot her at school, the new girl who didn’t look like she quite knew where to fit in. One look at her and Clary knew she could be their fourth, that she could complete their coven and finally they’d have the chance to tap into something real, into the kind of magic they’d only read about in books and dreamed of.
The fact that she’s beautiful and sharp witted and everything Clary wants to have close is just an added bonus to the situation.
Clary smiles at her and crawls forward on all fours towards her.
“You never played at a sleepover or anything?” she says holding Maia’s deep brown eyes. Maia just shakes her head. Clary smiles at her one more time before swiveling around and lying down back flat on the floor arms pulled tightly across her chest.
“All you have to do,” she explains looking up at each of the girls. “Is take your index finger and middle finger,” she continues raising the two fingers once again meeting Maia’s eyes head on with that simmering smile on her lips. “And place them underneath me not really touching and then just think about me as if I weigh nothing at all and repeat the words of the game.”
“Light as a feather, stiff as a board,” Gretel says being the first to put her fingers in position.
“It’s never worked,” Isabelle sighs moving into position as well.
Maia is the last to move brushing her fingers against Clary’s bare arm before putting them into position. “That’s before you had me,” she says confidently.
They all smile and together in unison begin the words.
“Light as a feather stiff as a board, light as a feather stiff as board,” they all say slowly eyes closed in deep concentration.
Clary feels it the moment she starts to lift from the ground her long red hair slipping off her shoulders and hanging towards the ground.
“Light as a feather stiff as a board,” they all continue to say, Maia is the first one to open her eyes.
“Holy shit,” she whispers going back to the chant immediately. Her words catch the other girl’s attention all of them opening their eyes and smiling at the sight of a floating Clary before them. Clary tilts her head side to side looking happily at the space between her body and the hardwood floor.
She feels invincible, like this small thing is just the start of all that they can make possible.
They all pull their hands away from her staring in awe. Isabelle starts giggling and Gretel joins in, Maia runs a hand under Clary then over her like she’s checking for wires or an invisible base.
“Um, I know this was my idea and all, but how do I get down?” Clary says which just makes Isabelle and Gretel giggle even more.
“Just keep concentrating,” Maia says brushing her bangs from her eyes.
“No, but seriously who’s got the instructions,” Clary says heading turning between the three of them.
“I’m sure you’ll just float back down eventually,” Isabelle smiles wiggling her fingers Clary’s way.
“Concentrate,” Maia says again her voice calm and reassuring. That’s when a quick succession of knocks hit the door, Clary’s mom popping her head in causing all the girls to lose their concentration.
“We’re home and we brought leftovers!” she says happily over Clary’s shriek as she falls to the ground.
Maia moves fast quick to place a hand under her head softening the blow on that one vital part of her body.
“Owww, my butt,” she says as Isabelle rushes up to greet Clary’s mom putting on her most parental pleasing smile.
“What’s going on in here?” she says a look of concern on her face as she tries to peek around Isabelle who’s now blocking her view.
“Nothing at all, Ms. Fray,” Isabelle smiles trying not to laugh too much as she grabs the to go bag of food from her hands.
“Are you girls getting high?” she says her eyes going a little wide as she catches sight of the smoke coming off some of the candles. The question just causes all of them to laugh even more, Isabelle even losing it as she gently nudges Clary’s mom back into the hall reassuring her that they are one hundred percent not getting stoned.
Eventually Clary hears her mom sigh and shuffle away Isabelle shutting the door behind her tightly and falling to the floor in another fit of laughs the bag of food gripped to her chest.
“I can’t believe we did that,” Isabelle says in awe as she digs into the bag, Gretel crawling over next to her to do the same. Maia helps Clary sit up the hand that had caught her head before she smacked it on the floor brushing her hair out a bit and back over her shoulders.
“Thank you,” Clary says quietly and Maia just smiles back at her before turning and snatching a wrapped-up bundle of French fries from Gretel’s hand with a laugh.
The night goes on like that the girls coming up with wild new spells they could try while snacking on the bag of delicious takeout until the hour gets far too late and they all start to drift off. Isabelle snores lightly curled up in the window seat and Gretel breathes so quietly from her spot on the floor that for a moment Clary worries and leans down checking for a pulse.
She’s alive. Thank the goddess.
Clary lays back on her bed mind racing. This is their first real taste of power and she can’t stop thinking about the rush she felt as she floated up off the ground. About the ways they could make that feeling get even stronger and last even longer.
“You think incredibly loud, Fray,” Maia says startling Clary slightly. She flips on her side resting her head on her hand so she can look at Maia where she rests curled up in the chair by the bed. The moonlight spills in catching on Maia’s curls, the silvery scar by her neck that Clary longs to touch and those deep brown eyes.
“I just can’t stop thinking about what we did tonight, about what we could do,” Clary says nothing but eagerness in her voice.
Maia chuckles warm and agreeing as she unfolds from the chair. She steps over to the bed nodding her head down with a question in her eyes that Clary answers immediately lifting the covers as an invitation.
Maia slips in next to her not quite touching but her warmth seeps into Clary all the same.
“Our power could be limitless together,” Maia says her eyes dropping down to Clary’s lips for just a moment. “The four of us I mean,” she tacks on meeting Clary’s eyes again.
Clary licks her lips once before shifting closer to Maia, when she doesn’t protest she clears the final bit of space between them. She reaches up a hand trailing her fingers across Maia’s bottom lip down to her jaw and then lightly along that tantalizing, intriguing scar at her neck.
“The two of us could make some pretty gorgeous magic together too I think,” she says leaving her fingers to slide back and forth against Maia’s collar bone.
Maia smirks grabbing Clary’s hand and guiding it down not quite to all the good bits that Clary wants to explore, but right on the cusp.
“There are two other girls in the room Clary,” Maia says and it’s the first time she’s called her by her first name. A thrill shivers across every inch of Clary’s skin at the way it sounds lilting from Maia’s beautiful pink lips.
“Kinky,” Clary says with a smirk before pushing forward connecting their lips. Maia opens up to her almost immediately their lips and tongues finding a rhythm all their own almost instantly. Clary pushes Maia down into the mattress slipping on top her.
Her fingers slip down tracing the exposed skin just above the waistband of her tiny pajama shorts while Maia’s fingers find purchase in Clary’s long hair tugging and twisting just right.
Moments, hours, days pass and soon Maia uses the grip on Clary’s hair to pull their lips apart. Clary’s fingers still where they’ve just barely skimmed beneath her shorts.
“Not tonight,” Maia says swiping her tongue lightly over Clary’s bottom lip. Clary’s breath quickens at the action but she listens to Maia’s words slipping the hand that had been so close to heaven back up. “Soon,” she says drifting one hand down to rest on the small of Clary’s back.
There’s the magic they pulled off tonight and then there’s the magic of this. Clary’s not quite sure which one she craves more.
She resituates herself still half on top of Maia her head on her chest. She tilts her head placing a kiss to the exposed collar bone just once.
“We’re going to rule the world one day, all of us,” Clary says as her eyes drift shut gently being pulled into a slumber by the feel of Maia’s fingers combing through her hair. “Soon.”

Note
Mundane AU where Mel and Clary and Maia meet Izzy before Malec meets so a bunch of Magnus’ friends are so enamored with this woman they’ve all met and they take turns raving about her. And while Magnus is happy they’ve found another (potential) partner, he’s like “for the love of god I get it she’s smart and funny and beautiful and could kill a man, pls ask her out and leave me be” but then he meets Alec and joke’s on the Polycule bc they now have to put up with his lovesick ass.
doiuahdsaiuhdaih beautiful. everyone but raphael and simon is suddenly obsessed with this woman and magnus just can’t take it anymore. all damn day it’s just “oh her smile is so beautiful” “she has such doey eyes, magnus, if you’d see her, you’d understand” “i love the cadence of her voice” “meliorn no offense but who talks like that” “leave them be, clarissa” “goddamn it raphael stop being so protective it was a joke relax” and look magnus loves his weird ass fucking family even as he’s like the seventh wheel or something but god damn does it give him a headache. they never stop being like this and this izzy person is turning the whole thing up to eleven
also clary keeps calling “dibs” on her because she’s the only one with only one partner (maia) and she met her first, like this is a competition or something. (maia and meliorn just ignore her in favor of gushing over how pretty izzy is, and soon clary ends up admitting defeat and joining in. best part of polyamory is mutual crushes, after all. raphael is just like “hmm yall are weird” and simon is just like “she gave me her hand to kiss and i shook it, there’s literally no way i can develop a crush now” and magnus is like “who the fuck gives their hand for people to kiss anymore” and raphael is like “i told you it’s weird” “yes we get it, you’re superior to us mere allo mortals” “yes”)
ok so maybe the whole thing is entertaining and funny, but still, constant headache when they are all together. raphael and meliorn are usually the closest to normal magnus gets but meliorn becomes an absolute chaotic force paired up with the others and over years of having a relationship they brought rapha to the chaotic side a little bit
anyway, he finally gets to meet this izzy person during clary’s art expo, because of course she invited izzy to it and of course they are all there even if very reluctantly from raphael, but well, clary is simon’s best friend and okay, objectively - beautiful woman, beautiful smile, beautiful eyes, even if not he’s type and he’s painfully monogamous anyway, so he basically is like “okay good for you guys” and talks to her for a bit (they get along well enough, she’s smart and fashionable and has a killer sense of humor and he immediately likes her) and then his eyes meet the tall beefcake right behind her’s and magnus is all jokingly like “oh, i like your bodyguard” and izzy laughs like “shut up, he’s my brother” and magnus is all like “my apologies” clearly looking straight at alec and the both of them are kinda frozen looking at each other and immediately leave together to chat, but it’s alright because clary immediately started bonding with izzy over being a shortie and how terrible it must be to know your own sibling just stole all the tall from you
and alec and magnus chat and hit it off super well and i tend to think in mundane aus malec would be more of a slow burn thing because there isn’t like, that immediate moment where the stakes are high and magnus suddenly realizes that alec is on his corner, you know, but like, the chemistry is def there right off the bat, and from then on everyone has to deal with magnus’ constant “alexander” bullshit and when they start dating it only gets worse. also, alexander and isabelle are now part of their weird little group, so they all have to deal with the two of them being disgustingly lovesick and alec going into his weird wedding vows rants every once in a while and it’s just, big groan
but magnus is disgustingly happy so they all can deal with that, they suppose

seashells by the seashore
ao3
clary/maia au for the shadowhunters wlw bingo event
“I’m gonna get fired and die young and unfulfilled with my artistic potential unrealized.”
Magnus sighs over the phone. “Do you always have to be so dramatic about everything?”
“Yes!” Clary cries, flopping down backwards onto her bed. “I interned at this place for two years and the second they give me an actual job with actual money in it, I get hit with the worst art block I’ve ever had. It’s like the universe is against me achieving my dreams.”
“It’s not the universe, it’s you struggling to adjust to a different routine,” Magnus says. “You’ve been in school your whole life. It’s a big change. But you didn't study all those years for nothing, you know what you’re doing. This is just something you have to work through.”
Clary groans; partly because she doesn’t believe him, but mostly because she knows he’s right. “ Please don’t go all therapist on me right now.”
“I’m not playing therapist, I’m playing godparent. Get off your ass and draw.”
“But how ?”
“I don’t know, you’re the artist!” Magnus says. “Draw an apple or something. Or go to the beach and draw some seashells. You always loved drawing those when you were little.”
Clary glances out the window. It looks like it’s going to rain.
“It’s too cold to go to the beach.”
“I know for a fact you own at least one sweater.”
Clary sighs. He’s right, as always - moping and waiting around to screw up the job isn't going to help. She might as well try to do something about it. She does have a mostly-empty sketchbook and new charcoal pencils she hasn’t had a chance to try out yet.
“Yeah, alright, I’ll give it a shot,” she tells him. “Thanks, Magnus.”
“Anytime, biscuit.”
The beach is cold and grey and ugly, but not as deserted as Clary had expected. There are a few people idling by the water, in various degrees of undress, and even more people lounging around on beach blankets, conversing among themselves.  Clary sets down her own blanket and, trying to ignore the sand, puts on her headphones, takes out her sketchbook, and begins to draw. So far, she’s only found one seashell pretty enough to even want to look at, let alone draw, and no crabs, but she decides it could be worse.
After drawing that same seashell in every way imaginable and hating every single iteration, she decides that no, actually, it couldn’t be worse, this sucks. She picks up the seashell and tosses it angrily behind her.
Just as she’s about to call Magnus so he can talk her through this again, someone taps her on the shoulder. Clary turns, startled, to see a woman standing above her with a beach towel and a book tucked under one arm while the other arm is extended towards Clary.
Clary rips off her earbuds, mortified, when she sees what the woman is holding.
“You lose this?” the woman asks, holding the previously-discarded seashell out towards Clary.
“Please tell me that didn’t hit you.”
“Just my arm,” the woman says. She doesn’t sound particularly angry about it, though.
“Crap, I am so sorry.” Clary takes the seashell back and begs whatever higher power is watching over her to drag her under the sand right now before she dies from embarrassment, which will undoubtedly be more painful.
“Seashell kill your family or something?” the woman teases. “I have to know what it did to be shunned by you like that.”
“I was trying to draw it,” Clary admits. “But my hands weren’t cooperating. It wasn’t its fault, it just got caught in the crossfire.”
“That’s always sad to see,” the woman says. “Well, best of luck to you.”
She smiles at Clary. Clary tilts her head up to smile back, humiliated as she feels. It's only polite. That’s when she gets her first proper look at the other woman: brown skin glowing under what little sunlight has managed to part the clouds today, big dark eyes and long eyelashes, full lips pulled into a bright smile, curls blowing in the wind.
Clary almost blurts out “marry me” on the spot.
The stranger begins to walk away to a less crowded part of the beach. Clary leaps up. “Wait!”
The woman stops and turns back to her, frowning in confusion. Clary runs up to her, wringing her hands together nervously, and takes a deep breath.
“Can I draw you?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“I’m an artist,” Clary explains quickly. “I’d like to sketch you, if that’s okay. You can keep the drawing if you want. I could just really use the practice.”
“Um, sure,” the woman looks suddenly self-conscious as she fixes her hair and smooths down her dress. “But why?”
“Because you’re beautiful,” Clary says. She shuts her eyes and curses herself for her lack of filter when the woman’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise. But, sadly, still no response on the sand-opening-up-and-swallowing-her-whole end. “I mean…I would love to draw you. Or at least try to. If that's okay with you. May I?”
The woman cocks her head to one side. “Are you hitting on me?”
“No!” Clary says quickly. As much as she wants to, she has bigger problems, like needing to get over this art block so she can draw the damn comic and ensure herself a job for the next year or so. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
“I didn’t say I was uncomfortable,” the woman says, quickly looking her up and down. She offers Clary her hand. “I’m Maia, by the way.”
Clary lets out a sigh of relief and shakes her hand. “Clary.”
“Nice to meet you, Clary. Is it okay if I read while you sketch?”
“Yeah, that’s totally fine,” Clary says, unable to keep herself from smiling. “Thank you so much.”
So Maia places her blanket down near Clary’s and makes her way through chapter after chapter of Frankenstein while Clary studies her and tries to get the lines of her face right. Clary stops herself from starting conversation multiple times, not wanting to interrupt her. But, surprisingly, Maia is the one who finally breaks the silence some time later.
“So…” Maia starts, keeping her face turned to her book to keep her pose the same. “You’re an artist?”
“Yup,” Clary says. “Comic artist, to be specific. But it’s hard to draw twenty pages of monsters and werewolves in epic battle when you can’t even bring yourself to draw a freaking seashell. What about you?”
Maia sighs. “Well, I just graduated top of my class with a degree in marine biology,” she says. “So, naturally, I’m still interning and bartending.”
Clary makes a small noise of acknowledgment and sympathy as she adds the finishing touches to Maia’s neck and hair in her drawing.
“It’s not so bad, though,” Maia says a little more optimistically. “I might get offered a job as a research assistant soon. That would be pretty cool.”
“I’m sure you will,” Clary says encouragingly. “It’s tough when you’ve just graduated. Guess we just gotta hang in there, work through it and all that.”
Maia chuckles. “Wise words.”
“Just something a friend of mine said earlier.” Clary carefully tears the page out of her sketchbook and holds it out towards Maia. “I’m done, by the way.”
Maia finally looks away from her book. Her eyes widen at the drawing. “Oh my god, Clary, this is amazing!” she exclaims.
Clary can feel herself start to blush. “You think so?.”
“Yes! I can’t believe you’re letting me keep this for free.”
“It's not half as pretty as the model.”
“Oh, shut up, it's perfect.” Maia looks up from the page and Clary nearly melts at her smile. “Can I give you something in exchange? You don’t have to keep it, but I thought you might want it.”
“Yeah, sure, of course.”
Maia gestures at her sketchbook and pencil and Clary scrambles to hand them to her. Maia opens the book to a blank page and scribbles something down quickly, then shuts it and hands both items back to Clary with a grin.
“I hope you like it,” she says, sitting back to pack her things up. “I gotta get going, though. Good luck with the comic.”
“Thanks,” Clary says. “And good luck with the research assistant job.”
Maia waves goodbye and walks off the beach towards the parking lot. Once she’s almost out of sight, Clary finally opens her sketchbook to the page Maia was using.
Maia has written a phone number - her phone number - with a little heart next to it.
Clary hugs her sketchbook to her chest and tries her hardest not to squeal in delight. She’s going to buy Magnus his third “World’s Best Godparent” mug of the month. She’s going to dedicate an entire museum to that stupid, impossible-to-draw seashell. And most importantly, she is definitely going to call Maia.

Nixie’s Rare Pair AU Challenge, Day Twenty Seven: Claia - High School AU.
“And don’t forget,” Maia called out, rushing around her room as she tried to finish getting ready for the day, “Simon needs our help with his gig this Saturday. And Izzy wants to use us for her beauty vlog on Sunday.”
Nodding, Cary hummed in response as she carefully continued to sketch where she was seated on Maia’s bed as she waited for her girlfriend to finish getting ready. “Also, my parents want you over for dinner sometime next week.”
Pausing, Maia stopped placing her folders into her bag as she turned question eyes on the redhead. “For what? Did we just do dinner with them?”
Nodding again, Clary paused to look up towards Maia before speaking, “Mom and Maryse just want a big family dinner, since Alec and Magnus are finally going to announce they’re moving in together. And in congratulations for Jace on getting into Julliard.”

Horrible edit but a concept that I hold deeply in my heart: The show follows the lives of 6 young adults living in NYC and the owner of the bar they frequently visit.
Luke Garrowy: Former NYC detective and owner of  the HuntersMoon.
Clary Fray: The artist, reckless with the heart of gold. Ready to fight everything. Might be high but it’s just coffee.
Maia Roberts: part time marine biology student, part time bartender, full time badass
Raphael Santiago: Eye rolling 24/7, no one is sure what he does, wants new friends but doesn’t like people enough to try. Really needs to stop lending Simon his clothes
Simon Lewis: Musician/accountant because he loves his mom. Needs to stop ripping Raphael’s clothes.
Magnus Bane: Fashion Bicon, loves his friends, mom friend, there’s nothing that he can’t do. Needs to start locking his door.
Alec Lightwood. Pretty rich boy that walked out of his wedding, doesn’t know how to flirt. Really is trying his best.

Jimon Prep School AU
Simon only really decided to attend The Institute: Academy of the Finest because it would give him a boost come college admission season
The fact that his mom approved or that his best friend and her brother went there was irrelevant.
Simon isn’t like them though, no his parents aren’t rolling in money, sending their kids here doesn’t even make them bat an eyelash, no.
Simon is one of the scholarship kids, like Maia, and Raphael. They were on a tight leash. One screw up and it’s bye bye elite education.
Which is fine because Maia’s a badass with a sunshine smile and Raphael may be hella intimidating, but he’s actually a softie for people he cares about. And he has Clary!
Except, Clary doesn’t need him any more. Not with friends like Alec who practically runs the school along with Lydia, or Isabelle who is not only the smartest student in their year, but already has job offers in Washington, DC. And she’s a walking goddess.
And then there’s Jace. Golden Hair, Golden eyes, gorgeous, fit, smart, talented, makes every man and woman swoon just as he enters the door. There is nothing that Jace Herondale can’t do. Except get along with Simon.
He doesn’t really know why he dislikes Jace. The guy is a good guy. He treats his family right, he treats Clary right, and he has a book club! A book club, no one who is evil has a book club.
BUT they just can’t get along and they are always at each other’s throats. Snarky remarks are how they communicate he guesses.
But then Clary comes to him with fear in her eyes, saying that she might not be into Jace as much as she thought. Turns out Clary’s got her eyes set in one Maia Roberts, who “can’t understand the white girl’s constant drama” Yikes. Sorry Clary, you might need to work extra hard to get on Maia’s good side. (Which she does, to everyone’s surprise.)
Simon expects Jace to be put out by getting dumped, but he seems fine? Okay?
Until Simon finds him drunk on the balcony in the East Corridor. He looks so peaceful just watching the night sky with a bottle of Jack in his hands.
It’s there that Simon learns that Jace isn’t exactly straight. “I’m bi, actually, so you’re an ass for assuming.” Simon will deny he blushes, but he guesses that maybe he should stop assuming people’s sexuality.
“That’s cool. I’m pan.” “What the fuck is that?” Simon laughs because Jace’s face is scrunched up and he looks so confused. Oh well, what can you do when you’re a minority in a minority group.
That’s how they become friends.
Simon’s okay as friends, until he starts noticing how buff Jace’s arms are. And he wonders how nice it’d be to be held by them, wrapped around his shoulders. He starts thinking about how soft his hair look, especially early in the morning right before Bio, or how when he laughs, a real laugh, it’s captivating.
He realizes he has a problem when he starts fantasizing about hooking a finger around Jace’s Herondale family ring, conveninetly placed on a necklace, and bringing his face and consequently his lips down, close enough for him to reach out and-
Well, enough of that
Simon is screwed, because yes Jace is bi, but that doesn’t mean he’ll go for him.
Especially when Clary’s brother Jonathan is in the picture. Tall, nice and lean, and hella smart. Jonathan is the perfect son, minus some social skills. Then again when you live with Valentine for the beginning of your life, you may have some social deficiencies. Luckily Jocelyn won the court case and her and Luke secured custody over both morgenstern, fairchild children.
So no Simon can’t compete with Jonathan, who has always been like the cool, slightly introverted older brother that he never had. Plus he taught him how to play guitar, you can’t mess with the love life of the guy who taught you guitar, that's just rude.
But Jonathan’s always been super perceptive and he confronts Simon.
Surprise, surprise, of course Jonathan is into dudes, but not Jace,
“I can’t date the guy who dated my little sister, Simon, it’s just weird.”
Apparently he’s also dating a dude named Albert? And they have a complicated History? Honestly, why was this never mentioned at the Fray-Garroway dinners?
Long story short, Simon has a chance. So he takes it. He gathers up what little courage he has. “You should have more faith in yourself Sheldon” “I’d have more if you remember my name Magnus.”
Anyway he gets his courage and goes to ask Jace out after his book club meeting on Tuesday. Well, he tries. He actually came out as “I...you...really food nice….together. Damn you’re hot...shit...I mean….date me?”
It takes Jace exactly two minutes and thirty eight seconds to stop laughing, and Simon is terrified. Until Jace looks up at him with soft eyes bursting to the brim with adoration and Simon swears his heart froze because no one has ever looked at him like that.
“That was such a you proposal, honestly, I didn’t think you could ramble about this, and yet.”
“Okay, that aside, are you saying yes?”
“Yes, I am”
So yea, he only went to The Institute: Academy of the Finest, to get into a good college. But his mom is proud, and he gets to hang with Clary and Jonathan. And he has the best, most Golden boyfriend anyone could ask (Alec will argue and say Magnus is the best, but to each his own, right?)

Ok uhhh claia, lukemaryse and malec superhero au headcanons
first of all, id just like to say that i love this new trend of u guys sending me really vague prompts and giving me complete creative freedom to do whatever i want with them. i think it really shows that u trust me to create good, interesting content, and that means a lot to me. second of all, that trust is entirely misplaced. why would you ever think that id make something good. have you met me. what im trying to say here is basically: this is your own fault
behold:
In a world where everyone has a superpower, the world is bound to work a little different. No one knows what determines people's superpowers; some are fairly common (like teleportation, which led to a lot of ppl working as cabs, taking ppl to and from wherever they need) and others are unique and particularly powerful (and also dangerous, which is why particularly powerful people are part of an elite squad dedicated to keep the world safe; our very own superheroes)
Alec's superpower is definitely unique: he can sense trash. That's it. Hes just going around, living his life, sensing trash. He knows when people are littering. He can sense it from a pretty far away distance. Everywhere he goes, he knows where all the trash cans are. His life is just. Him and the trash, everywhere, haunting him
No one's ever heard of this before. Alec's mom, maryse, can bend all four elements, and is part of the Elite Squad; so is his father, although he retired from action and works behind a desk now. His sister izzy has superspeed and was trained to perfect combat in the hopes she would follow their footsteps, but ultimately decided to give it up and become a biologist instead. And Alec. Can sense trash
This was the source of a lot of Family Drama, since alec's parents were pretty strict and held their position as elite superheroes with pride, expecting nothing less from their children. But after many years of trying and failing to somehow make up for it, Alec decided to say fuck them and fully embraced who he is, refusing to live in apology. Once he finally left their house to live on his own, maryse realised he meant wanting to cut them off his life for real, and came around. Robert's lack of understanding was one of the factors that led to their divorce
Alec became an architect and works to build better and efficient waste collection systems in the country. Due to his power, he knows which places need the most infrastructure investment, as well as the problems that lead to the littering. He also knows which companies are illegally discarding their waste and how, the exact effects of that on the environment, and a lot of stuff that would otherwise only be possible through extensive research. He is an activist for both a better public, free, universal waste removal system, and stricter regulations on companies that profit from environmental destruction.
And the thing is, he likes this life. He's passionate about it. Everyday at work he gets to do a little something to make the world better and fight against injustice and use his place of privilege that comes from his education and his so-called "useless" superpower for change. He wouldn't trade it for the world and he's really passionate about what he does, even if it does take up most of his time
So when his mom comes in one day saying that a new villain named Trash Man is going around and killing people and they need his help to track him, Alec is not. amused.
First of all: Trash Man? come on
But he kind of has no choice, since this is top priority at the moment and the very ministery of security is calling him or something - every citizen is required to register their powers so they know exactly when they're needed
So he goes, and for the first time, he meets the rest of his mom's Top Secret team; first of all, there's the leader, Luke: his power is persuasion and hes very good at de-escalating events to guarantee minimal damage and better solutions, making him the most valuable asset of the team. Then there's Maryse, and under them, a team of relatively young, but very powerful, heroes: maia, a shapeshifter; clary, who can summon weapons and is very good at Stabbing; and Magnus, who can bend time and space
Magnus is also kind of the Group Genius; his power also got him an special interest in physics and chemistry, meaning that he is not only able to use his power intelligently and creatively, but effectively enhance it; he's also very good with tech and responsible for a lot of their non-power-related assets. Honestly, he likes that part way better than the crime-fighting blah blah blah, but he kind of has no choice over what he does because he's an orphan and extremely powerful, meaning he's viewed as a threat by the government while simultaneously being dependant on them, and would pretty much have nowhere to turn to if he didnt start working for them
But really, he wants to be a scientist. He wants to do good things. He wants to create stuff that will make people's lives, and the world, better. He doesn't even believe in this whole "crime fighting" shit; he believes in a just world crime would be minimal and using their resources to fight bad guys instead of working on crime prevention is an absolute waste. But it's not like anybody asked for his opinion.
Alec and Magnus immediately hit it off; Alec was kind of tense at first because surely these guys would have the world's hugest chip on their shoulder, right? But instead everyone welcomes him, and Magnus kind of jokes that he envies him, which takes him by surprise
Because Maia and Clary are both Magnus' great friends as well, Alec also gets closer to them; Clary can be a little self-centered and annoying, but she's cool and Maia always calls her out on it. Maia is a fierce, amazing, smart girl and Alec can totally see why she and Magnus are so close, with their similar sense of humor, shared experiences (Maia is not an orphan but she ran away from home when she was pretty young), and gleaming, almost mischievous intelligence and talent. Alec can hold a conversation with them alright, since as an architect he needs quite some knowledge of physics and as an activist he can also hold pretty good and deep conversations with them about the system and its flawed, unjust logic; but there are some topics they get into that just kind of escalate and seem to get them in their own little world. Alec finds himself watching from the sidelines sometimes, and while he admires that - and doesnt miss the way clary will sometimes sit beside him and watch them as well, a small smile on her face that tells him everything he needs to know - he finds himself... a little upset by it, too
Not that he has a problem with them, but he finds himself wanting to feel like he belongs, and that's kind of- new. It's not like his life is a sad wet sock of loneliness or anything, he has his sister, he has some friends, but he's a private kind of guy and he finds himself more comfortable at the sidelines than the spotlight, except when it comes to his work, because hes good at that
It's just his luck, then, that Trash Man turns out to be really smart and hard to track due to [vague plot noises], giving him all the time he needs to, well, figure this out
So he spends more time with them, particularly Magnus. The both of them will sometimes sit talking for hours, and soon learn a lot about each other. Magnus listens, enraptured, whenever Alec goes on a passionate Trash Rant™ and Alec is always in awe by Magnus' smart solutions. They begin some sort of camraderie that's also laced with Magnus' oh-so-smooth flirting, which started strong and eventually died out as Magnus began to realize he really liked Alec and his usual confidence and devil-may-care attitude vanished. But Alec mistakes this as Magnus losing interest or him seeing things. Cue lots of mutual pining
At least once Alec gets thrown through a wall by some villain; but, little did he know, it wasnt just a normal wall that he broke; it was the fourth wall. Alec looks straight into the reader's eyes, and goes: "I can sense trash. That's why, in this AU, i was never friends with jace". Then Magnus comes in and takes him back to the other side of the wall, and Alec blinks, confused, not remembering what had just happened. This is never mentioned again
Idk theres some gay shit in here, Alec introduces Magnus to Izzy and Magnus is absolutely in awe with her work. Izzy specializes in pollinators and works trying to restore the bee population and guarantee a more sustainable environment. Her work crosses with Alec's a surprising amount of times, and Magnus, who loves both animals and the incredible amount of knowledge her research requires, and they become super good friends almost immediately, which makes Alec very pleased.
More gay shit, Alec and Magnus decide to team up to try and get Clary and Maia together, only to be knocked sideways when they find out they're already dating. Maryse is like "do the four of you ever work" and Alec is hit with the realisation that his mom, too, kind of lives in the sidelines when it comes to things that arent work; luke seems to be kind of the mediator between her and the rest of the team, which is kind of sad. She does seem to have a good relationship with Luke, tho
Eventually they defeat Trash Man and Alec is no longer required to work for them and can go back to his trash activism; and when he does, so does Magnus, who is invited to work with izzy's team, which he gladly accepts
Somehow Alec confesses? And Magnus is in awe because he of course never expected Alec to like him back but. It turns out Alec is the most confident out of the two of them despite their exterior telling most people otherwise. And Magnus just says that yes he likes him back and will go out with him and they kiss passionately in the middle of the lab surrounded by bees but there are also flowers so theres that. And then they get married. I mean not right after but some years later
Magnus leaving inspires the rest of them, in some ways; Maia, Luke and Maryse start actually fighting to change the crime fighting policies to investment in crime prevention because new supervillains will always keep coming. The romantic tension between them finally snaps and they start going out. Maryse seems like such a different person now, more open and happier. Alec is pleased
They save the bees and the trash and the impending environmental apocalypse that looms over us is avoided idk that's all Ive got
Again this is your fault
The end

I had a dream last night about Kat McNamara in the CW’s Supergirl’s outfit, carrying Alisha Wainwright off the Daily Planet.
Claia were Lois&Clarking it hard and they totally rocked it. And can you see Simon standing there, actual Clark Kent with his glasses and all, stammering as he watches them fly off into the sunset...?

We Were Holy
Tumblr media
Hey y’all!
I have a new fic, a long project that I’ve been working on for the past two months, to share! It’ll start being published the 4th of September on AO3, and is titled We Were Holy. This story is an AU/Rewrite, and will take a few of the elements of the original show, and a fair amount of imagination from me and filling in the gaps!
TW for: Transphobia, Homophobia, Violence, Death, Blood
Summary: Alec Lightwood is 22 when he is thrown out of the New York’s Institute for being trans. Deruned, separated from his sister and parabatai, he finds a new purpose when he saves Eve Galivant, a young warlock in Magnus Bane’s care. Living with Magnus and Eve proves to be quite the adventure, and when the girl appears to have prophetic visions, it becomes even more chaotic. With Clary Fray’s arrival, all players fall into place for Alec to discover more about himself than he ever thought possible. Uncovering the Clave’s most hidden secrets has never been so messy.
Ships: Malec, Melizzy, Claia
