Traits that make people terrible moderators
These are just some observations I've made being a moderator in multiple settings, in wonderful teams and bad teams, as well as being in communities that have absolutely festered due to poor moderation. Many of these traits are things you can identify before the person is even appointed a moderator in the first place. (Most of this applies to large-scale servers and/or communities, and isn't always applicable to small and/or personal servers. I am not writing some sort rule book absolutely everyone has to follow, these are just traits that would not make the mod-team cut, to me, you don't have to agree with me.)
Having any hesitation with confrontation. (being a moderator requires confrontation, this is not negotiable. if the idea of confronting difficult people gives you anxiety or panic attacks, don't apply to be a moderator)
Being too eager to confront and/or unable to use tact/kindness when confronting. (those that seek confrontation should not be moderators)
Gets personally offended easily. (any mod that is constantly getting into fights with other users because of perceived slights, will make the whole community feel unable to talk to the mod team)
Is incapable of repairative reading. (moderators need to be capable of reading the best out of someone and not jumping to negative conclusions)
Lacking in compassion. (using tact and kindness leads to faster, more permanent, diffusion of conflicts)
Views any confrontation as a personal attack. (being a moderator means getting a lot of questions, suggestions, and well-meaning 'confrontation' and needs to be met without hostility. ps: tact and firmness are not the same as hostility)
Cares more about their own wants than the server. This can manifest in the form of, in the case of a server/community created for a single individual, ignoring comforts/needs of the individual; in the case of a collective community, being unwilling to negotiate or compromise with the rest or the community/team. Just any abuse of power in general.
Likes to control others. (moderation is about cohesive harmony for a shared goal, not control)
Incapable of being objective and applying the same rules appropriately to all users. (those that expect exceptions for their friends or people they want to impress, or express any other bias of application of the rules, should not be moderators)
Incapable of following the rules, themselves. (if someone wasn't following the rules before they became a mod, it won't change when they do become a mod)
Wants to be a mod for the social collateral, not because they want the community to run smoothly. (those that are constantly vying for attention and validation, that then apply for being a mod, should not be made mods)
Lacks humility. (knowing when to admit you're wrong or have overstepped, is important to being a good moderator)
Lacks the self-awareness of knowing when to put something down and walk away. (as a moderator, self-moderation is a vital skill that must be learned to be able to moderate others)
Refuses to communicate directly and clearly in any given circumstance. (vague communication is bad moderation, any user being approached by a mod should know exactly what they did wrong, and what is expected for future change)
Is prone to soap-boxing/lecturing instead of being concise. (this goes back to communicating clearly and directly; being overly verbose and preachy can make it difficult to understand. You need to give room to allow the member you are confronting to talk and ask questions.)
Incapable of deferring to others with grace where appropriate. (knowing when you're not the best mod for the job, when you're lacking in information, when your ideas just won't work, or when you're compromised is important. and knowing how to properly delicate tasks is a Must for an admin)

📥 INBOX OVERFLOW ⛔️
Thank you for your overwhelming support, Helldivers!
Just a general note to the community as a whole, this blog’s questions inbox (and DMs for that matter) are in a constant state of overflow!
I know this just means you’re all passionate and dedicated to the fight, but it’s been causing some technical difficulties when trying to answer a whole load of messages at once. If you’re wondering why your question may not have been addressed, this is why.
Because of this, I just wanted to apologize if your message is not read or responded to. I’ll be doing my best to answer some here and there, but unfortunately I’m just one admin with a battalion of over 1,250 Helldivers vying for attention!
Thank you all for the support,
Keep giving ‘em hell!

Sonny? Snake? What are you two planning? Are you trying to get admin control away from Kinito? That is… probably for the best but. …
Sonny. Please. I beg you. Once you get that control, nobody else has to die.
You maybe fix yourself. I’d be really happy if you weren’t in pain anymore. And you could even fix Kinito. Make it so he can’t hurt anyone. You don’t have to kill him. Please don’t kill him.
Please.

avatrice & books
// turning this into a whole post bc it got LONG. ty anon who asked these questions
who prefers audio and/or digital books over physical?
out of necessity they have a LOT of digital books. Cam actually dumps her whole contraband collection in Bea’s inbox while she & Ava are still en-route to Switzerland, so that Bea’s new phone lights up on the seat beside her & it’s the first thing that relaunches her brain like a crashed excel document, because Ava’s drooling onto the leg of her pants with her body curled up across two seats. all the lights in the train are down low, & she gets an email from Cam (on the OCS extranet) with the subject line “don’t tell Mom :)))”.
headcanon is that Cam has been selling literary contraband in cat’s cradle for years (in true Camila style with a barter system where she gives people pages she printed off on the admin office’s old printer & they give her things like ‘interestingly-shaped bullet fragments’ and ‘bags of Haribo starmix with a preferential ratio of love hearts and cola bottles to bears & rings’)
so yeah, Cam has a little online archive hidden away on the OCS servers, & Bea spends the journey to Switzerland reading a digitally dog-eared file of miscellaneous philosophy papers, which Cam has been grabbing for her because it’s like Beatrice catnip. and it becomes a little habit for Cam to walk into Bea’s room at cat’s cradle to find her doing crunches with the lights off. Cam doing the sibling thing where she flicks the light switch on and off five times until Beatrice stops and just lies on the floor with arms akimbo, scowling:
‘leave me alone Camila.’
‘okay, broody bones, guess you don’t want this paper i found called ‘do holes exist?’
cue Bea coming down to breakfast the next morning STILL furious, squinting angrily at the straw in Mary’s smoothie until Mary asks if she needs to put it into protective custody.
she reads it again on the train because she wants to be angry over something stupid. she reads the essay that made Cam spend a week hiding in the apse and saying ‘i’m batman’ whenever Beatrice went inside - Nagel’s ‘what is it like to be a bat?’ and she reads a bit of Beckett because she really does find ‘Waiting for Godot’ funny, & then she reads her old favourites which she has printed and folded in her drawer in cat’s cradle
she LOVES Kepler’s astronomica nova because he has all these asides in it, and Bea chuckles aloud in the train carriage as she always does when she remembers reading first about Kepler writing “ah, what a foolish bird i have been!” & when her head hurts from reading the original Latin she switches to Carl Sagan’s cosmos, reading about Kepler again, feeling it in her chest:
“Kepler was a brilliant thinker and a lucid writer, but he was a disaster as a classroom teacher. He mumbled. He digressed. He was at times utterly incomprehensible… He was distracted by an incessant interior clamor of associations and speculations vying for his attention.”
beatrice & kepler &
“Geometry provided God with a model for the Creation… Geometry is God Himself.”
when Ava wakes up, Bea is reading the Lewis & Lewis holes article for the third time, & Ava jolts a bit because she looks real mad, and kind of devastated, but then Bea smiles at her & Ava says:
“what’s wrong?”
“nothing, nothing.” a pause, “i just… holes are full of the substance they create an absence in.”
“i think i need a croissant before you explain that to me”
Bea prefers physical books. she likes the smell of them, and the feeling of holding the words in her hands, and how you can leave a bookmark inside of a book and feel suddenly and profoundly like you are alive, putting an ellipses straight into the world ‘…. to be continued’.
it’s why she likes Cam’s dumb print-offs even if Camila has long-since convinced the ink cartridge that it is not, in fact empty but it definitely is getting there. even though sometimes the words are shaved off and she has to infer the full shape of sentences - and if she does, well, it’s kind of like sudoku & it’s a bit like learning song lyrics off the radio where, very occasionally, the words you mishear are better than the real ones.
but she does appreciate the search functions on the digital books & papers & the fact that she can screen reader things when her eyes are tired but her brain is not, (& Cam is very good at making sure that the PDFs she sends are screen reader accessible)
she doesn’t like audiobooks because she wants to put the emphasis where her brain thinks it should go, and even with the speed turned up there’s just a difference between her reading speed and the narration. & yeah, the auditory processing sometimes is not cooperating, never mind that her ears ring sometimes from hearing too many gunshots. there’s a reason the OCS has a deal with a hearing specialist bc if you retire, you’re going to have damage to your eardrums. a ringing aftershock of violence.
they both love dog-earing books and leaving little notes in the margins of, underlining things with intention so that the pen breaks through the paper; with mass-market paperbacks there’s no reason not to, though it takes a while for it to happen.
Ava is at first very tender with every object they own. she bawls her eyes out when she drops a glass in the kitchen one night because her fingers are tired and sore from doing finger strikes all day. Bea finds her there sort of curled up on her haunches, and quietly sweeps up the glass from around her, gently leads her around it because she’s in bare feet.
later, on the sofa, Ava tells her through tears that she has never had stuff that she picked out herself, and the glasses with the little bumblebees on them were hers, and now there are three of them instead of four. & Bea is a bit overcome by how sacredly Ava holds everything, for all that she doesn’t believe in any god.
Ava i think really likes audiobooks because you can do other things while you listen to them! so like, i imagine in the Switzerland era Ava is doing a thing where she’s trying to figure out what stuff she likes doing. so she gets painting supplies & some sheets of A3 paper & she puts on audiobooks while she experiments with colours.
she listens to books at night because Beatrice goes to sleep kind of early & she’s always like ‘oh no, you can leave the light on’ but actually she needs the light off and Ava knows it so instead she lies in the dark with one earphone in listening, on the one hand, to Beatrice mumbling in her sleep and also to whatever book she has & sometimes she takes out the fold-up ruler that she found in a charity shop & folds it and unfolds it and folds it again just to keep her hands busy.
but she also likes physical books because (once Beatrice assures her that it’s okay to write in them & damage them because they’re things and they’re hers and they’re meant to be loved in the way that feels best) she likes writing silly little notes in the margins, or things she wants to look up even though her phone is right there because if she google searches she’ll spend an hour not reading her book.
it makes her feel present & good to leave marks on the books even if it’s ‘ava silva was here’ because she thought she would leave only the smallest impression on the world for so long but now she has her own dirty plates to clean up and she has to pick her clothes off the floor and they have a small stack of very carefully-chosen paperbacks with dog ears and yellow highlighter marks and blue pen in the margins.
what do you think their weird book opinions & peeves would be?
Beatrice will go on a ten-minute tirade about how long it takes for mass-market paperbacks to come out these days. she HATES the fact that all books seem to get released in 25 euro hardcovers, because she spent her teenage years getting books from the second-hand store when the students were allowed to visit the nearby village & she kept an ever-expanding stack of old yellowing paperbacks on top of her chest of drawers, and she adores the feeling of the wafer-thin pages, the smell of them, even gross stuff like spots of blood on the pages from where people accidentally pressed an open cut down over a sentence.
the too-white pages of many modern books, and their thick, almost laminate feeling drives her up the wall. she loves second-hand bookstores and the way the books are stacked all haphazardly, to the ceiling, and they are 1 or 2 euros so you can get a stupid stack of them & pay with a crumply note and take them home and feel full for days.
Ava gets impatient with fiction that doesn’t feel real to her. overly-constructed stuff & characters who could never be real people. she likes messy narratives and non-linearity and she wants to know about the characters more than anything, because people fascinate her.
she likes books with plenty of dialogue, but also really appreciates introspective narratives & beautiful language & writers who can make her really feel like she’s there, and communicate alien experiences.
what are genres and/or tropes they absolutely will not read and/or are very picky about? what are genres & tropes they love?
well, obviously Beatrice loves non-fiction. she reads textbooks, she reads academic papers, she reads very old foundational texts in science & biology & philosophy because Beatrice really really likes understanding things.
one of the first books Cam sends her, which gets dumped right into the “broody bones’ library <3” subsection of the server, which Bea has a login for and everything, is Biology of Spiders by Foelix Rainer, & another file that just has about 3000 images of different spiders pulled from an internet search, so that Beatrice can swipe through them at her leisure (she can name-drop a terrifying number of them just by looking at the pic)
she adores Carl Sagan’s Cosmos (& even gets Ava to watch the TV series, which is not hard because Ava gets fully 0 _ 0 when Bea goes on sleepy rants about space). & ofc she has A Brief History of Time, but she gravitates too towards modern books on astronomy, and likes especially The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein because it is doing a lot of things & it makes her cry a few times. she reads a lot of very old astronomy papers too. again drawn to that line from Monsignor Lemaître:
“the believer has perhaps the advantage of knowing that the enigma has a solution, that the underlying writing is, when all is said and done, the work of an intelligent being, therefore that the problem raised by nature has been raised in order to be solved.”
she likes that. the world as a puzzle god put in her hands, though before it felt more like He had put a shovel there & told her to dig a grave (but not who the grave might be for).
with Ava, reading under the awning of the bar on her break, she feels like the puzzle has come back again and it is intricate; that maybe something as simple as a body might unlock it.
on that note, Beatrice also loves loves loves science-fiction. she grew up reading second-hand stuff. very weird, but very thoughtful. Dune and Solaris and Flowers for Algernon and The Dispossessed. when Cam sends her the more modern stuff she devours things like The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin and Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and also the Murderbot Diaries.
many others, but as a genre she’s drawn to it because it is often very profoundly human. & she still remembers reading the Star Wars Jedi Apprentice books in her room at boarding school, & how fun they were, and how even in the strangest places with the premise that everything is so, so different, there is a humanity that reasserts itself.
it suits the gentle texture of the faith that Beatrice actually has, which is not the faith of hard church benches and prayers before bed and holding her hand too close overtop of a votive candle. her faith is very soft, and it is about marvelling at the world, worrying about it, being tender towards it.
sci-fi does that for her. it says much in the way of ‘even if everything were different, the best and worst parts of us would remain the same. there will never be a point in history where we do not have to deal with what we are.’
i think she also likes poetry, and just weird good books that make you feel things. i think at some point in those two months she reads Autobiography of Red, remembering herself on the train and staring staring staring at the line “sometimes a journey makes itself necessary.”
looking back and thinking that sometimes a girl makes a journey necessary, thinking of being shipped off to boarding school because of a girl and now shipped off to Switzerland again but with a girl. thinking of necessity, and the small ways in which she has managed to alter the meaning of that word.
other lines that strike her
“This would be hard
for you if you were weak
but you’re not weak”
“Well Goodnight Then they said and drove him up/ Those hemorrhaging stairs…Don’t want to go want to stay Downstairs and read.”
she likes Anne Sexton, too
reading “Sylvia’s Death” & knowing that it’s about something else but also thinking about her sisters. about lilith, especially.
“Thief —
how did you crawl into,
crawl down alone
into the death I wanted so badly and for so long”
the only genre she’s not going to read ever probably is crime/ thrillers, because not only does she just constantly have a little voice in her head going
wrong, wrong, wrong.
no it doesn’t work like that.
wrong.
you just broke both your legs.
that is not how you fire a gun
some of it just sits too close to the bone for her & it’s bad enough that she has her own memories of real-world bad things happening without reading about it. possessed people ripping each other to pieces, bodies in the streets.
the OCS visited enough murder scenes on the trail of demons to make Beatrice capable of smelling, all over again, what happens to a room after a person has been dead in it for several hours.
so she just doesn’t want to read any crime or really most mystery novels (she’s too smart for them, sees things choreographed or else dislikes when things aren’t choreographed at all). she has attended too many autopsies to want to read about them either.
i think Ava reads VERY widely. she loves reading plays & acting them out in the apartment. she has her own little library on the OCS extranet too, & she downloads all of Shakespeare’s stuff & puzzles through it and googles stuff but the pentameter makes sense to her & she loves sometimes how initially inaccessible it is to her because it feels good to unearth the meaning.
her favourite plays are Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and sadly Beatrice does persuade her to read Waiting for Godot and she does kind of think it’s good.
Ava is the one who likes reading fantasy books. she adores The Hobbit & this somehow leads to her finding the ‘legless lego legolas’ post & she spends a whole afternoon laughing randomly until Beatrice finally gives in to her curiosity and she is just ‘…. oh, Ava’ when she reads the crappy screenshot version of it that Ava shows her.
my girl Ava obviously loses it a bit over the Frodo/Sam dynamic in lotr (she likes to perform the travelling songs ofc. Ava is like repressed theatre kid energy fr) & Beatrice (happily) listens to her talk about Frodo and Sam for a whole half hour one evening while she chops vegetables.
Ava just really likes adventure stories & stories where characters are thrown together on a quest and become friends.
she’s obviously embarrassingly a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope in fiction, but she also just enjoys stories about friendship because she’s had so few experiences of that in her life. she has Beatrice and she kind of has Cam & everyone else doesn’t feel like a friend, exactly. Ava reads the Red Sister trilogy by Mark Lawrence and vibes so much with Nona Grey because of her wild and speechless loyalty to her friends (& yeah, the Sister Apple & Sister Kettle romance and the start of book 2 made her extremely giggly).
she also loves The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin bc the thing at the start of the book that goes “for all those who have to fight for the respect that everyone else is given without question” - Ava FELT that. & just the parallels for her in that book were very powerful. plus plate tectonics magic slaps.
& yeah, Ava is really interested in magic systems. she likes what they reveal about the worlds they exist in, and how they shape the narrative, and also just the rlly cool ones & the weird cheeky thrill of being like ‘….welp, i can do that too actually.’
Ava also really loves fiction with interesting characters and great dialogue and she loves description and colour and everything that pours life into art.
i’d say there isn’t much that Ava doesn’t like, but she isn’t huge into non-fiction because she MUCH prefers to just pester Beatrice about it, & have her voice explain things, and add her own little corrections and opinions with her cute smart smirk. and Ava thinks it is good for Beatrice to express her opinions on things.
she likes how Bea looks when she is Thinking and Processing, and also the excitement in her hands when she explains astrophysics or shows Ava a picture of a spider or tells her about obscure bits of architectural history, the banking system in Florence under the Medici, and all the knowledge she has been muffling with prayer.
Ava thinks that it is H O T but also important and Beatrice looks so free to her, and so good, when she is speaking on some subject with her eyes drifting freely around the room, always coming back to Ava, to her eyes, making sure she is still interested because Beatrice has been ignored so often, and stifled so often, but when she looks back Ava is always watching, and always listening.
so yeah! the girlies like to read & are very smart & i love them every day.
#warrior nun#avatrice#ava silva#sister beatrice#i really really really truly love them#this got soooo long but it's books and avatrice#two subjects that do not provoke brevity from me#casper writes

ppl will complain for days on days about how the kids who’re posting their first fanfic to AO3 try to circumvent the “algorithm” (nonexistent) by changing post dates and such, treating it like a social media and vying for likes. and I want to look people in the eyes and be like: you know the answer is moderation, right? you know that literal children are never going to stop wanting attention because that’s the nature of being a child, right? you know the only way any social media/archive/anything online is enjoyable to you because it’s through a filter of moderators, right? you know an archive isn’t required to take in everything, right? if you want the site to be more usable to you, you cannot also advocate for it being the wild west when it comes to admins. can’t have your cake and eat it too.
the answer to almost every problem on AO3 is “hire more admins who are stricter” and yet. even the people who think you should be able to put anything you want on that site would benefit from an actual mod team. how curious.
#lee speaks#I’m sorry but you’re not going to get a generation of kids who were raised with YouTubers as their idols to stop wanting social media#attention. I think there’s a way to work against it but it’s literally programmed into their brains and they don’t even have full brains ye#people like to wax poetic about how back in their day you didn’t post fanfic for attention. talk about bullshit. the only reason people#share their art ever is to get a reaction. get off your high horse and let the kids write their fics. or make AO3 hire mods. your pick

Best Underrated Anime Group E Round 4: Hinamatsuri vs Mawaru Penguindrum
#E2: Hinamatsuri
Psychic girl is adopted by Yakuza. Hijinks ensue.
#E3: Mawaru Penguindrum
Sending us penguins will NOT fix our terminally ill sister, but thanks anyways.
Details and poll under the cut!
#E2: Hinamatsuri
youtube
Summary:
While reveling in the successful clinching of a prized vase for his collection, Yoshifumi Nitta, a yakuza member, is rudely interrupted when a large, peculiar capsule suddenly materializes and falls on his head. He opens the capsule to reveal a young, blue-haired girl, who doesn't divulge anything about herself but her name—Hina—and the fact that she possesses immense powers. As if things couldn't get any worse, she loses control and unleashes an explosion if her powers remain unused. Faced with no other choice, Nitta finds himself becoming her caregiver.
Propaganda 1:
Hinamatsuri is about…
Hina, who is a psychic metaphor for autism ala Mob but imo better. She’s not only a weirdgirl who’s friends are almost all other strange girls, but she’s also into stuff that is just so either unfitting for her age or she’s just really intense about.
Nitta, who deserves all the fangirls and husbando-ing that every other random guy in anime gets. He’s a bachelor who loves pottery and can cook so well that Hina convinces her friends they have a gourmet chef working for them. He’s also a yakuza and is beloved by the aniki for being incredibly tough and scary. (He is gentle as hell with Hina.)
A bunch of other weird girls (Admin: this part of the propaganda has been cut due to possible spoilers)
Propaganda 2:
Hinamatsuri is an absolutely hilarious anime with some of the best comic timing I’ve ever seen. It’s so funny, the various girls are such nonsense.
Hina starts as a violent blank slate and develops into a lazy greedy horrible little gremlin. Anzu starts as a prideful edgy rival but eventually becomes a wholesome overly grateful insecure mess. Hitomi is forced to become more and more competent, independent, and adult because she can't stand up for herself and say no to people asking her for favors.
Nitta is a fantastic viewpoint character because he outwardly takes so much in stride that it’s easy to forget how annoyed and stressed everything makes him until he snaps.
Trigger Warnings: There is child nudity, but only for a Terminator reference. There is some comedic child neglect and slapstick. There is a child who is homeless, but it’s treated very sensitively.
#E3: Mawaru Penguindrum
youtube
Summary:
For the Takakura family, destiny is an ever-spinning wheel, pointing passionately in their direction with equal tides of joy and sorrow before ticking on to the next wishmaker. With their parents gone, twin brothers Kanba and Shouma live alone with their beloved little sister Himari, whose poor health cannot decline any further.
On the day Himari is given permission to temporarily leave the hospital, her brothers take her out to the aquarium to celebrate, where the family's supposed fate is brought forth with her sudden collapse. However, when Himari is inexplicably revived by a penguin hat from the aquarium's souvenir shop, the hand of fate continues to tick faithfully forward.
With her miraculous recovery, though, comes a cost: there is a new entity within her body, whose condition for keeping her fate at bay sends the boys on a wild goose chase for the mysterious "Penguin Drum." In their search, the boys will have to follow the threads of fate leading from their own shocking past and into the lives of other wishmakers vying for the Penguin Drum, all hoping to land upon their chosen destiny.
Propaganda:
Do you like weird artsy stuff? Do you love magical girls? How about weird, messed up character dynamics? Then boy oh boy, Mawaru Penguindrum is the show for you! The show starts out funny enough, but will quickly spiral into an intense and intricate plot, involving fate, the mafia, magical destiny-rewriting spells, and penguins. Which yes, before you ask, the funny penguins are in fact plot relevant.
Penguindrum isn’t really a show about all that stuff though, even though it is. It’s a very symbolic story, about living under the crushing heel of capitalism, and the quiet poison of the societally expected nuclear family dynamic. I could write an essay on each and every single one of the characters, as they’re all given a lot of depth and time to grow. Every character has their own baggage that, one way or another, ties back to someone else. Everyone in this show is connected in some way shape or form, and that’s really highlighted when everything starts to fall apart. Be warned: this show is NOT a light watch! If you’re the type of person who gets really into deciphering symbolism and creating your own meaning from pieces of media, then this show is for you!
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Flashing Lights/Flickering Images, Gender Identity/Sexuality Discrimination, Guns, Incest, Kidnapping, Nudity, Pedophilia, Rape/Non-Con, Smoking, Suicide, Bomb Threats/Attempts and Terrorisim
It’s a very major plot point. This show is HEAVILY based off the 95 Tokyo Sarin Gas Attacks, so if content like that is triggering to you, tread lightly.
When reblogging and adding your own propaganda, please tag me @best-underrated-anime so that I’ll be sure to see it.
If you want to criticize one of the shows above to give the one you’re rooting for an advantage, then do so constructively. I do not tolerate groundless hate or slander on this blog. If I catch you doing such a thing in the notes, be it in the tags or reblogs, I will block you.
Know one of the shows above and not satisfied with how it’s presented in this tournament? Just fill up this form with your revisions, and I’ll consider adapting those changes.
New: Starting round 5, screenshots will be included in the poll post. You can submit screenshots through the form linked above, or through here, via ask or dm.
Guidelines in submitting screenshots:
No NSFW or spoilery images.
Pick some good images please. Don’t send any blurry or pixelated ones.
You may send up to 9 screenshots, but not all may be used.

hello! ive been thinking about pursuing an education in library science amd qas wondering about the process and what the types of careers would entail. would u mind talking a bit about it? if not, its no problem, i was just curious. thanks
Bonjour!!! You have activated my trap card: talking about library stuff!!
Have you had any experience with working in libraries before? If you haven't, try volunteering with your local library for a few months and see if you like it first! One of the things I noticed really early on in library school was that people with a different background, like a background in teaching or in academia, often struggled with concepts that came naturally to people who worked within the system a lot. People think it's the same. It's not. It's close! but there are key differences in when and how you operate and the vocab and concepts utilized. Getting into libraries really lets you understand the rhythms and patterns of library work before you dedicate your life to it!
I went into library school already working in a public library, so I didn't really explore a whole lot of other opportunities, but lots of people like to get their masters with a specialty in other adjacent niches, like archival work, medical librarianship (maintaining a medical library at a medical school, I think it needs a medical degree of some sort?), academic librarianship (library in a college), teacher librarian (kids + kids' schools, requires an teaching degree), law library (ditto #1), and, of course, public! Which is what IIIIIIIIII doooooo and which no one really makes any money doing ❤️❤️❤️
Unless you're admin. They love paying for admin.
A Masters in Librarianship and Informational Sciences (MLS or MLIS) is often referred to as library school by all attendees ever, but it's generally as rigorous as any other masters degree...especially if you're already working full time. Every ALA (American Library Association)-accredited program has its own application requirements, such as your GRE score and letters of recommendation, but they scooted me in based off of a clean GPA during early covid, so I got away without taking harder tests ✨ And if you're in the US, you're going to WANT to go to an ALA accredited program, or else zero people will hire you ever. The ALA has a searchable directory for finding an accredited program that suits your needs, including online, synchronous, by state, so on and so forth. Use it. It's worth it. Once you have a few programs you like, you could see what they ask for application wise, or what the prices look like.
Librarianship, especially public librarianship, is hard to break into! I was rejected from the first part time job I applied for based off of...probably nothing, honestly- because the field is just so over saturated with applicants. You spend months applying to the scant few open positions that pop up. Everyone is vying for the veeeeery few fulltime jobs that are available. Networking is necessary-- join your state library association as soon as you know that this is your forever career, and your union as soon as you know you have a job, and talk to people! Talk to your local librarian now! Get the lay of the land and other great info about local options from your local library!
And no one wants to paaaaaay you unless you're in a really rural place and everyone thinks you just sit around reeeeeaading and meanwhile you're up to your eyeballs in library publications and program development and research and maybe even kids media, but I went into this job as someone already working in a library, so I had a better handle on hauling myself up into a full time position and out of a part-time depression. And I love my work!! Kids are hilarious and I love picture books as an art form and my coworkers are great, which isn't luck everyone has. I decided I liked libraries and the system I was working in before jumping in all the way, which helps so, so, so much.
Have hobbies, find a niche, learn how to maximize your skills in a library setting.
📖 Hey, it may be for you! 📖

Last night, I was knee-deep in conversation with Admin Emma on a voice call, discussing plots and angst between two of our characters, when she suddenly interrupts me with, "You should change your mascot to Sydney..." And let me tell you, I haven't been able to shake that thought since. So, from now on, if you spot Sydney Sweeney on the dash, rest assured it's yours truly, Admin Carmen, vying for your attention. Anyway, I'm free of chores today, so for the first time in ages, I'll be here non-stop. We'd seriously love to see: Zayn Malik, Ashton Irwin, Kendall Jenner, Aaron Johnson, Alexa Demie, Henry Cavill, Maia Mitchell, Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, and so many others.

i'm sure the Admin can elaborate on this properly (if they, and you, so wish), but i was wondering what your thoughts were on something called "man flu"? and whether you've seen anyone exhibit this during this flu season that we're currently in?
…
Even the Admin had to look up what that is. It sounds like a cheesy joke made up by some quivering, spineless fool vying for attention. And an ego boost for coining the term.
You want me to seriously answer this…? *Retorts* Then no—I’m surrounded by capable soldiers... The flu hits everyone the same way.

How Qld's Team Rainbow helps choose the Gay Games host city
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/how-qlds-team-rainbow-helps-choose-the-gay-games-host-city/
How Qld's Team Rainbow helps choose the Gay Games host city
Team Rainbow brings the Queensland LGBTQIA+ sporting community together at a local and international level.
Team Rainbow is an organisation that plays a vital role for LGBTQIA+ people across Queensland.
Founded in 2017, the group promotes sport, fitness, and healthy lifestyles among the state’s diverse communities.
It also hosted Australia’s first Pride House at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This left the legacy of the rainbow stairs at the appropriately named Rainbow Beach.
However, its impact is felt most at a local level.

Regional Queensland
Team Rainbow was the first community organisation to serve as a unifying force for smaller towns and cities across Queensland.
Their newly appointed President, Toni Bowley, says it assists in taking on responsibilities many don’t have the time to handle.
“Smaller places may lack the resources to establish their own incorporated groups,” she says.
“This includes insurance, website management, board oversight, audited accounts, and approval to fundraise across Queensland.”
With Team Rainbow’s support, these members (which includes individuals, businesses, or community groups) can concentrate on delivering events for the LGBTQIA+ community.
In the last twelve months, the group has been involved with the AFL Pride Game in Mackay, the Tour de Scarborough cycling event, the Tiny Town Tin Can Bay tennis tournament, the Rainbow Beach trail run, and numerous other community events in Townsville, Cairns, and more.
Global connections
Team Rainbow takes Queensland’s LGBTQIA+ participation to an international level.
It is the state’s only member of InterPride (who hosts WorldPride) and the Federation of Gay Games.
Team Rainbow represents its member organisations at regional and international, inclusive, sporting events, such as the long-running Gay Games.
Queensland, under the Team Rainbow banner, had more participants in the Paris Gay Games than Japan and Singapore combined.

Newly appointed President Toni Bowley says that connecting their members to global events is an important role they play.
“Following up from our recent AGM, Team Rainbow is currently considering a few options to better benefit our Community,” she said.
“Organisations are expensive to maintain and require significant resources, especially at a time when social media ‘pages’ are being set up by some conspicuous/inconspicuous ‘admins’.”
“Team Rainbow has avoided this reputation by maintaining its membership with our community’s largest and most engaging international organisations: Federation of Gay Games and InterPride.”
Choosing a Gay Games host city
There will be Team Rainbow representatives at the Federation of Gay Games Annual General Assembly, in Washington DC, from 25-28 October 2024.
Here, two votes will count towards the prioritised ordering of the seven shortlisted cities vying to host Gay Games XIII 2030, including Perth and Melbourne.
One of Team Rainbow’s delegates, Daz Gould, says that choosing a venue isn’t just about location.
“Some voters simply choose a city that is close to their home,” he said.
“However, most voters actually choose a city that simply presents a fantastic and convincing Games with questions thought through and answered clearly with the audience.”
“It helps if the bid city has demonstrated a committed interest by previously applying or has recently hosted a similar event, like the recent Rainbow Games in Auckland, that was well-received, especially by participants from the Pacific region, and the Games have never been held in the bid country.”
Team Rainbow’s second delegate, Phil Horne, has high expectations for the Australian cities.
“It is hoped that the presenters from Melbourne and Perth impress the voting delegates from around the world,” he said.
Future
Although eyes are on the 2030 announcement, the Gay Games 2026 is not far away.
The Games will take place from June 27 to July 5 of that year.
Shaun Bickley, the group’s Gay Games Scholarship representative, encourages the community to get involved.
“Team Rainbow welcomes participants to unite as a team or in an individual sport, to represent Team Rainbow Queensland at Gay Games XII in Valencia, where we aim to offer a scholarship to a participant,” he said.
Driven by a team of dedicated volunteers and bolstered by its international affiliations, Team Rainbow Queensland remains a vital advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the state.

KINKTOBER 2024 / Day Eight
FLOGGING / SWALLOWING / COCK WARMING (@absurdthirst)
Starring: Maxwell Lord x F!Reader
Summary: When the pair of you end up trapped in an online meeting, Maxwell comes up with a perfect way to keep you entertained.
Rating: Mature-ish
Warnings: No use of Y/N, language, P in V (there’s no sex but please use protection in real life, thank you), cock warming
Word Count: 2.3k
Author’s Notes: Ok, so this is a little modern day setting and is more of a representation of if Maxwell was big CEO.
Being called into Maxwell Lord’s office was a regular occurrence. Though you were considered an intern, you did plenty for him. Your job description only included his admin and screening his calls, a minimum of two coffee runs a day.
On your first shift, he told you not to be nervous and that only made you more so. He was patient with you unlike any other of his staff, your colleagues said that maybe he actually liked you. Two weeks in, Maxwell insisted you buy yourself a drink on the company card to accompany his triple shot espresso.
“I dunno what he sees in you,” a colleague said, looking you up and down.
Fortunately, you didn’t see it either.
You noticed how all the other women dressed in the Black Gold offices. Sheer shirts and blouses, skirts that cinched them in at the waist, heels with the highest stilettos possible. You chose to go minimal and comfortable, your smallest shoe a kitten heel.
It wasn’t long until you elevated your wardrobe, adding a touch more makeup to your routine but not too much. You still looked like yourself and Maxwell’s eyes continued to follow you while you worked.
There were many reasons why Maxwell liked you. He secretly thinks he shaped you from the shy, softly spoken girl to the confident woman you had become. You were well mannered, forceful if you needed to be, always got his lunch order right and to put the cherry on top, weren’t vying for his attention.
However, it only made you more desirable.
You had noticed how he took care of you, most of all at the office party. A guy from accounts wouldn’t stop harassing you, you shrugged him off but he wouldn’t let it go. When you went to leave, he followed you until Maxwell caught up with him.
You never saw him again.
Part of you knew he had been fired, that Maxwell wouldn’t have stooped so low as to get his goons to beat him to death, you wished he had though.
“Thank you, Mr Lord.”
“Don’t worry that pretty little head of yours.”
The butterflies in your stomach fluttered and he loved nothing more than to see that proud smile on your lips, your back straightening.
For months after that, the sexual tension seemed to rise between Maxwell and you. You knew it was wrong to have a crush on your boss yet his energy was magnetic.
How his lips curled when you came into his office to place his coffee on his desk, how he nodded happily as you ran off a list of all the names you politely told to fuck off. How you warned him that his wife had magically appeared at reception and how you pulled every trick to make him disappear.
Then there were the other moments, the ones where his eyes darkened when you made a cheeky comment. The ones where he leaned back in his chair and allowed you to willingly berate him, a smug smile plastered on his face knowing he’d been bad. All the times he’d caught your gaze when he ran a broad hand through his dyed golden locks and it’s like he felt your pussy clench.
You’d imagined all the ways you’s let him have his way with you. You always wondered how good you’d look with your tits pressed against the cool glass of his desk when he fucked you from behind.
“I’m just popping out.”
He interrupted your daydreaming.
“No, you’re not.”
“Excuse me?” He retorts, taken aback.
You wouldn’t normally but you had to put your foot down on this occasion.
“Mr Agraste has been wanting this meeting for months and I’ve run out of excuses. He’s sent me an email two times a day for the past three weeks, you are having this meeting whether you like it or not.”
It was clear to him that you were at the end of your tether. Yet he knew how fucking boring this was going to be, it was going to be all about figures and profits and money, money, money. If he was going to do this, he wasn’t going to do it alone.
His look of alarm dropped, his lips curling.
“Then I need you to sit in.”
Your nose scrunched, “What?”
The smug expression grew as his eyebrows raised into his unnaturally blonde hairline.
“I need someone to take notes.”
Take notes?
You questioned whether you needed to show him, yet again, how to hit the little red button on the screen to record it.
“Since when?”
“Since thirty seconds ago.”
He gave you a childish grin.
You hum, “I need to go to the bathroom.”
“You can use mine.”
The phone vibrating in his pocket snapped him out of the trance he was in. Maxwell and you had been in this meeting an hour and already, he was losing the will to live. He switched off his camera to look at the message, eyes glancing to you as you tapped your notepad with a pen.
This could have been an email.
You smiled sweetly.
“Fancy a little pick me up?”
Part of you was hoping he’d offer you his finest liquor to help loosen off your aching muscles but instead, he pulled on a cupboard and out rolled a coffee machine.
“Why do I always go out and get you coffee when you’ve got that in there?”
“The coffee you get is better.”
That and he liked to see you deliver it to him, the way you walk in those kitten heels and the new pencil skirt you bought.
“How much longer do you think this is gonna be?”
He shrugs, “Another half hour.”
“Jesus Christ,” you say, stretching your back before standing up.
“Why, have you got somewhere to be? Someone to meet?”
Maxwell knew he was prying but he didn’t know your situation and he needed to know if chasing you was a bad idea. He had taken too many of those.
“No,” you giggle, “just don’t know how much more I can take.”
He places a cup on his desk, in front of your seat.
“We could make it interesting.”
“How so?”
You’d wandered over to his floor to ceiling window, watching the ant sized people and matchbox cars go about their day. When you glance over your shoulder, he noticed how you fluttered your eyelashes in curiosity.
You were warned by your parents when you applied for this job. Maxwell Lord had a reputation, he had done adverts on yachts with scantily clad women, the he was more than likely to hire you if you were female. Then there was the whole Dreamstone palaver that literally the whole world knew about.
They were right in some parts yet he had plenty of beautiful woman roaming his office halls, why the fuck would he choose you?
“What did you have in mind?”
You couldn’t deny that he’d peaked your interest.
“If my observations are correct, I’d say you like me.”
He watched how your body stiffened but he’d seen how you appeared flustered when he caught you looking. Sometimes he knew you weren’t even focusing on his face, there were other aspects of him that caught your attention.
“Maybe… but I’ve heard what people say about you.”
He smiles, “The one where I’m a ladies man when I’m actually a divorcee who hides from her whenever she turns up at my doors.”
You nod faintly, that was true.
“So why do you only hire women?”
“I haven’t chosen who works here in years and there are men, you know.”
“But you have so many women to choose from.”
“And I’m choosing you,” he tips his head to the side. “If you want me.”
Your stomach does a somersault, everything now depended on you and you tried not to have any second thoughts before giving your response.
“You still didn’t answer my first question.”
“How about a way that we can both sit comfortably.”
It was cryptic but something in you couldn’t say no.
Within minutes, you found yourself downing your drink before taking a seat on Maxwell’s lap. There was no pressure, you would both take it as far as you wanted to, if you didn’t wish to continue, all you had to do was stand up.
The temperature rose between you as you exchanged delicate touches and light kisses. Mr Agraste was no longer talking yet the voice who had taken over was equally as boring.
You almost whined when Maxwell was finally asked a question he had to reply to.
Sniggering, he switched the mic back on and answered swiftly. You scrambled for your notebook, ass still firmly planted in his lap as you scribbled some form of illegible notes.
You’d worry about that tomorrow.
He muted himself, returning his attention to you, chuckling at your agitated expression. It fell as he lifted his hips into you, his semi erected outline pushing gently against your skirt. Hearing him sigh sent shockwaves down to your pussy, your juices spilling into your knickers as he rolled his hips again.
He worked himself until his stiff length strained against it’s confinement.
His cock was all you could think of, the meeting was nothing but white noise under Maxwell’s soft moans of pleasure. You needed to see it, to touch it, to have it sit snuggly in between your heated walls.
You stand up, a momentary flash of disappointment behind his eyes as you turn round.
“Take it out.”
The words shook with your breath but the tone was stern. His eyebrows rose, his mouth parting before he had something to ask.
“Are you sure?”
You’re not even looking at him, already bending down to hike up the hem of your skirt. You lift it over your thighs and over your hips, Maxwell finally seeing what was underneath. The knickers you wore wear simple yet accentuated your figure.
You pulled them down in one swift motion, carefully treading out of them as you face him.
His hands reach for his belt and slowly unbuckle as he soaks you up from your neat triangle of pubic hair to your soft curves. The belt whips from the loops and he tosses it to one side, his fingers tugging at his zip, unbuttoning his trousers and underneath were white briefs. His thumbs tuck under the elastic, pulling down until his weighted cock springs free.
Your mouth salivates.
He lets you admire it before patting his lap, initiating the next step.
You take a single step, twisting on your heels so your ass faces him. Peeking over your shoulder, you watch his eyes flit from your behind to your eyes. You grab your ass cheeks and tilt forward, spreading them to show him how wet he’d made you.
Your arousal coated your lips and inner thighs.
“How would you like me?”
There was a cockiness to your question and he liked it.
“We should really finish this meeting…”
You pout, straightening up, your hand moving to pull your skirt down.
“But, I can think of a way you can keep me warm.”
His hands grabbed your hips and heaved you to him, his face pressed against your lower back. He lets one hand go, squashing between your bodies so he can take his cock in his palm, lining it up with your entrance.
Squeezing your side, you slowly start to sink down, his fat tip nudging at your folds. You mewl as his girth breaches, the stretch met with the slightest twinge before fading into something pleasant. Your walls relax around him as you let out a long exhale, dropping until his cock disappeared from view.
He knew how good you were a magic tricks.
His hand spreads over the curve of your ass, watching how the goosebumps arrive on your skin.
“Is this ok?”
This was more than ok, you can barely get the words out.
“Uh-huh.”
“Lift your feet a little.”
You listen, taking your feet from the floor so he can scoot towards the desk. The air whistles through gritted teeth as your walls clench his cock with the movement.
“Sorry,” the temperature rises in your face.
“Just,” his word is gruff, “don’t do it again.”
He was pretty sure if you did, he’d lose his mind and come there and then. It had been so long since he’d felt anything other than his hand, his trust in women deflated from his money grabbing ex who screwed him out of almost everything he got.
Yet you were sensitive, when he told you not to, you twitched.
He grunts.
“If you behave, I’ll give you a reward.”
The pair of you sat through the rest of the meeting like this, only business matters being discussed between you.
Your lips were becoming sore with your teeth buried deep into them so you didn’t make a noise, your motions were kept to a minimum so not to disturb either of you. Even when you wrote something, words noticeably wobbly, your mind couldn’t stray away from what was between your legs.
He was in a similar position, trying to focus his attention on what was being said on the opposite side of the screen. However all he could feel was your warmth, the steady flutters that held his cock a fraction tighter.
Even though you were doing your best not to look, he could see how your eyelashes batted when your head was at the right angle, how your lips were getting plumper, the heat that climbed up your spine when his palm attempted to soothe you.
Your juices weeped around him and Maxwell just kept smiling, no one outside of the office any the wiser.
