-Something CK does very well is bring back characters with little characterization, with a new and unexpected twist and really making them work.
Like, I would've never expected a cobra to go on to be one of the few chill pastors in media but here we are.
They did this with Mike as well, he was really a surprising delight.
-"what about that time in Reno with those soccer moms at the Hyatt? God forgive us for that?"
馃憖馃憖馃憖 what did you guys get up to??? Dying at the implication that they were rather young at the time and chasing cougars.
-that feeling when you ghost your son who desperately needs you during one of the darkest moments of his life for your adopted karate son who is also in one of the darkest moments of his life.
Like, don't get me wrong. I'm fully aware that the fact Johnny is flawed is The Point. But idk how there are people who legit blame Robby for his and Johnny's lack of a relationship.
And after the character growth Johnny goes through in seasons one and two with Miguel, I was really looking forward to seeing that with Robby and instead the writers just kind of... Dropped it.
I've spoken before on Robby's "I don't want to be mad anymore" reasoning for forgiving Johnny at the end of s4. It does make sense in a sad way. I can relate.
Many people who are used to being hurt or neglected feel the only chance is to forgive those who hurt them because they know the apology they need will never come, and they have to try to move on SOMEHOW.
You see that in a lot of neglectful and unhealthy parent/child relationships.
"I'm not going to get the closure I need if I wait for someone who hurt me to change so I will have to make peace with my own, deserved anger because it is poisoning myself, and I can only control my own actions."
It's still bullshit that he has to do that and it's never addressed and instead brushed under the rug with a bandaid baby.
Also, all of the hurt and anger between Miguel and Robby is just gone like *snap.*
I was so looking forward to all of the angst and pain and awkward sibling shenanigans as they slowly learn to cohabitate.
They're two sensitive boys who got in over their head and made some bad decisions and some awful accidents due to misplaced anger. They weren't being actively malicious, they were being dumb reactive teenagers. I would've loved to see them bond over their combined daddy issues and realize that the problem was never really each other, but the adults in life who had let them down.

i'm just saying that as an angry teenage girl I never called any girl I didn't like "princess"
that's not normal rival or bully behavior. that's just gay.
are things starting to make sense to them about how they write literally every single man with daniel?

I simply believe that Daniel was the happiest he's ever been in Okinawa
He deserves nothing more than to be Kumiko's house husband tending to their garden and making home cooked meals for their kids while she kicks ass on stage, and then Chozen can come over to be the cool uncle and he and Daniel can get drunk on sake and make out.

When Amanda walks into Cobra Kai to tell Kreese to knock shit off and he figures out who she is he literally rubs his hands together like an evil little fly.
"little Daniel's not man enough to fight his own battles anymore?"
Also, Amanda bitch slapping Kreese is in the top ten hottest moments of Cobra Kai for real

" miyagi do is making kids violent, it's so sad because I am teaching only good things at cobra kai. do not listen to this maniac he is bad and wrong. karate is good for kids despite a few bad apples." kreese about daniel
"I'm sorry councilwoman roberts but-" daniel as he's accurately calling kreese on his bullshit.
"councilPERSON roberts. daniel. you terrible misognyist! your actions have consequences. see what I'm talking about?"
the most insufferable he has ever been. right up there with choking a kid.
#i love johnny but anyone who tries to unironically pull the 'daniel was the real bully' shit on me is getting laughed at#like i m pretty sure the original video was supposed to be satire and it just went over people's heads#like you knock on too many doors and eventually the devil will answer#cks3rw

Absolutely INSANE that a high school fight in this universe is big enough to affect large overseas businesses.
#i just know terry had stock in dayona and was ready to show up when LaRusso auto went down being like#'danny boy. what a surprise. how sad. maybe we can help each other. hmm.'#cks3rw

-The writers want me to believe Tory is straight when they're out here giving her at least one homoerotic karate fight per season?
"I saw you with her. I didn't have a choice." It's like Tory really believes that. She genuinely doesn't know any other way in life other than maladaptive confrontation.
Women are rarely allowed to be angry in men's stories.
That hurt tone mixed with exasperation and a humorless chuckle in "you think I'm crazy." She 100% has been written off before by the adults in her life, most likely men, most likely many times. Troubled girls are always too much trouble to deal with and instead get written off as lost causes.
And, of course, it has been pointed out that her logic of "I saw my BF and his ex kissing" was not "I will talk to the BF about it" but instead "I will punch that girl a whole bunch" really IS peak teenage behavior with a heavy dose of internalized misogyny.
I can't tell if I think this is very realistic writing or just very telling that it was Written By Men. Somehow both.
CK writers are really out here writing compelling queer narratives entirely by accident.
Miguel: I'm so fucking mad it healed my spine. 馃槫馃槫馃槫

S3ep2:
-"he's the one who's mom killed herself."
When will they start telling the stories that I'm interested in and stop using women as props?
- Kreese really says "I can excuse child endangerment but I draw the line at preying on underaged girls."
- which, while not necessarily going against his previous characterization of calling young waitresses "sweet cheeks," does seem inconsistent. He seems to show the most empathy towards young girls, and then loses it as they get older.
-s1 johnny stated there were never any girls in Cobra Kai as a rule, Aisha was the first. so what had to have changed for John to go from "no girls allowed/girls are a distraction" to "you're gonna be my best fighter" (in reference to Tory)
(I know the simple answer is inconsistent writing but I'm trying to give the characters more of a benefit of the doubt than the writers tbh.)
It's very obvious losing Betsy is what convinces him that love/women were a weakness, but what convinces him that they could/should fight? Just time?
He seems to view Tory as a kindred soul. I think that has a way of removing her from his typical views on gender. It's almost like he doesn't view her as a young girl. He views her first as a fighter.
But he only really interacts with Tory, Betsy, and Amanda. There are occasional unnamed characters he is more traditionally chauvinistic towards.
I can't help but feel he puts on a chauvinistic, machismo persona for his own sake.
His mother is only mentioned in passing.
Women are archetypes.
They're either innocent or temptress. Victim or fighter.
Amanda, he clearly views as a trouble maker.
-"I can't believe you taught kids."
"Yeah, like you're such a great teacher. Look at Robby."
Like, I know people are hurting and lashing out, and so those words make sense for the moment, but for real why do the writers seem to keep finding ways of placing blame on Miyagi-do?
It's high key sus.
"always remember your enemies think they're doing what's right. There is no good. There is no bad. There is only weak and strong. "
Feel like that's a good Kreese quote we should maybe pay more attention to.
#cks3rw#for instance he probably views me as a clown for thinking so hard about a silly character in a silly tv show#this is the media i choose to examine. what does that say about me.#CK i am once again asking for the secret character development that turns sweet kids john and twig into kreese and terry

-Johnny really can't afford anymore head trauma. Also lol at him being like "you know you want to be a bad girl馃槒" bruh you smell like the floor of a bar and look like you slept in garbage. You literally piss blood.
- the first place Daniel goes to search for Robby after he finds the GPS removed is Miyagi-do. 馃ズ馃ズ馃ズ Because he hopes and wishes Robby feels safe there.
- "it's different when you're a girl. Even if you win they don't think you're cool or tough. They think you're crazy. "
馃憦馃憦馃憦.
It's moments like this that restore my faith.
-"this is my fault"
Daniel. It literally isn't. There's so much placing of blame in this show. Johnny thinks it's his fault. Daniel thinks it's his fault. Sam thinks it's her fault.
Everyone is quick to place blame on themselves or others, but never seem to realize that it's all a storm of shit, and the underlying issues never get addressed.
-"hey buddy. Your mom hasn't wanted me around. I don't blame her. Thought I was helping you. You were getting so strong so fast. But I failed you. "
When will this version of Johnny come back from the war?
-meanwhile, Kreese looking upon all the wreckage:
-Daniel: I'm not gonna fight you Kreese
-Kreese: 馃槒yes you will.馃槒 Fight me. 馃槒 It's inevitable.馃槒 You know where to find me.馃槒 Are you paying attention Daniel? 馃槒Do you like my new cut out?馃槒I'm so evil. 馃槒 Are you impressed? 馃槒
- it's always Daniel extending the olive branch isn't it? He even put on a cute jacket and showed up on his doorstep.
"get in loser, you're parenting your son or so help me."

And then of course Daniel does sit down with a sad look on his face like everything is his fault because he DOES always blame himself. Just look at tkk3.

7 minutes into the first episode of S3 and already an adult is slut shaming Sam and Daniel is the reason for everything bad that has ever happened.
Daniel: karate is not the problem. When I went to school here I was bullied and karate saved me.
Random PTA dude: bullshit. You were the real bully.
Random PTA dude #2: don't get all high and mighty LaRusso. You're the one who taught those kids that Miyagi crap. You reap what you sow.
Part of me wants to think the writers are self aware, and yet...
Yep, no it's literally Miyagi-do, which is about balance, self defense, and de-escalation rather than Cobra Kai "strike first, strike hard, no mercy."
