The sketching setting was so good we both forgot about the crowd and noises. SUSHI GALA restaurant owner even brought out a beer. The visitors were all very supportive and Rachel cranked out an excellent sketch. To pay back our respect, we decided to have lunch right here. Ramen, sashimi and curry ... but no more beer. One of my most favorite movies is "Love Letter" (1995) in which the story takes the viewer from the big metropolitan Kobe to a small town in Hokkaido named Otaru connected by a set of lost love letters. I remembered how bleak, lonely and sad the landscape of this northern town was in the film. Years later on the train going from Sapporo passing by this very same coastline I looked out the train window and saw again that solitude and loneliness ... yet I felt it was so beautiful such a sad scenery. And I thought only people living in such a stoic, and quiet place would really know how to love another person to the very end and would never leave. Today, @stuartperlman and I took a time trip 56 million years back to La Brea Tar Pits to sketch a saber-tooth tiger. What a great museum! It was a blast to sketch in complete freedom. The visitors were awesome. A little 9 year old girl gave us a lecture on watercolor and materials and an Art Professor from New Mexico university gave me an A+. I passed! We had lunch at Canters where I stuffed myself with liver/pastrami and even tried out a slice of pickled pike.
