@grinlinggibbons300 Ten Gibbonesque carved drops filled with fruits and foliage adorn the panelled walls of the Mercers' Hall on Ironmonger Lane in the City of London. The suite of carvings was given to the Mercers' Company by Sir John Dashwood-King — a Tory MP and country gentleman — in 1817. The identity of the carver (or carvers) is unknown, and the appearance and arrangement of the limewood drops have been altered and adapted over time. Two of these examples of late Baroque décor are included in Centuries in the Making, open now until 27 August at Bonhams, New Bond Street, London. #BaroqueInterior #BaroqueArt #GrinlingGibbons #GrinlingGibbons300 #GG300 #woodcarving #mercershall #mercerscompany #cityoflondon #cityguilds #opulent #carvedfruit #BaroqueStyle #woodcarving #limewood https://www.instagram.com/p/CT55SHcjRGR/?utm_medium=tumblr
