It's that time of the year again...
The city has been cleansed with the after showers of monsoon. Blue sky peeking through fluffy clouds resembling the cotton candy carried by the street vendors. The smell of durga puja coming in through the open windows. Standing outside Kumortuli is a small smiling face in shabby clothes and dirty hair. The departure of idols might be significant for the whole city, but not for the little boy whose father will be coming home after months of crafting the inanimate joy that would fill the city for the next 10 days.
The single mother spent her bonus on the little piece of jwellery she had seen her daughter longingly looking at in Gariahat. The transferred father took a few extra days off. A son remembered his father on the banks of the Ganges, while the recently widowed woman longingly glanced at the idol's red saree. They felt what the poets may describe as peace and happiness but for them it was just plain old durga puja.
She arrived with her children, shaking the whole city from its slumber, a ray of hope within the gloomy times. Every year she arrives with the same smiling face and listens to all our problems. To the lost boy trying to find his place in society, to the queer person trying to figure out why they were wrong, to the girl who never saw her father after that day in court, to the lady who never knew what happened to her daughter the night she went out with her friends. Lives filled with tragedy after tragedy lie at Maa's feet asking for a way ahead. Maa listens. She gives them hope and sometimes tragedies do go away. The boy lands a job while the queer person is invited back to their family. The girl recieves a gift from her father while the lady cries at the station, report in hand. Maybe not happy endings, but closure. That's what Maa gives. Hope is just the surface of the abyss of our mind which actually seeks closure.
The bright lights and bamboos wrapped in colourful clothes stand as a symbol of the hardwork of all those people who worked relentlessly to make this festival a pathway to overcome tragedy. The people live another day to fight, blessed by Maa.
At the break of dawn on Mahalaya, someone replaces the oxygen with adrenaline, and for 10 days, the city does not sleep.

DAY 5568
Jalsa, Mumbai                  May 15/16,  2023                Mon/Tue 9:47 AM
🪔 .. for the 16th of May , it's our happy birthday wishes to Ef Debelina De from the City of Joy - Kolkata .. love and greetings always from the Ef Family .. ❤️🌿
Aahhhhhhh .. the impotency of content ..
Much made out of the bike picture .. !
How you moving on street with stranger ..? No security ..? You are loved take care ..?
And then ..  NO HELMET .. !!!!!!
The fact of the matter is that this is on location shoot on the street of Mumbai ..
It is Sunday .. formal permission taken for shoot at a lane in Ballard Estate .. permission sought for Sunday because all offices are shut and there is no public or traffic ..
One lane in the region BLOCKED off by Police permission for shoot .. the lane barely 30-40 meters ..
The dress I wear is my costume for the film ..
AND .. I AM JUST FOOLING AROUND BY GETTING ON THE BIKE , OF A CREW MEMBER .. NOT EVEN MOVING ANY WHERE, BUT GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT I TRAVELLED TO SAVE TIME .. 🤣 ..
But yes I would do it if there was a problem of punctuality .. and wear helmet and follow all the rules and regulations of the traffic guide lines ..
I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT DOES THIS .. had seen Akshay Kumar do this to get to location on time .. wore helmet etc., on the bike of his Security person .. no one could recognise .. and it was rapid and efficient .. and it worked well ..
Thank you all for your concern and your care and love and your spanking me and trolling ..  !!!
Ef .. delays again .. uff this is getting out of hand .. but had some very important meets and they took time ..so retired early .. but here I am and off again to work .. shall try not to delay the Blog ..
And sorry , people , for causing concern and giving any wrong  concept of breaking traffic rules ..  I did not .. love all of you .. ❤️

Aisha, A 27 year old girl from Kolkata with big aspirations who is new to Mumbai. Despite being the new girl in the city she was indeed a fearless woman, quashing all societal norms. Aisha was calm, composed and mature she has her goals and aims set in life which is quite opposite of Sid as shown in the movie. Aisha liked independence, The independence of having your own home, cooking your own meal, exploring a new city all alone soaking everything in her deep striking eyes but she didn't forget her roots Aisha liked harmony for her party was spending a good time and having a cup of tea, She even had the strength to reject her boss's proposal for jazz night and sticking to her Indian classics. As a kid it fascinated me how could a person want to be like that and not sid he is so fun! Yes sure being sid is very fun but as I am getting older I am finally getting What Aisha was trying to say, Being Alone gives you the joy of independence and freedom but not always Mumbai is a fast paced and someway or another you will feel lonely, sid was what connected Aisha to Mumbai, he was what made Aisha fall in love with Mumbai and her home even more. Sid made her experience her first time rain in Mumbai. Aisha taught him how to set an aim in his life and how to achieve it, how to not follow societal norms and do what he loves. Aisha being so independent she still needed sid in somewhat way in her life and sid needed her the same way. People no matter how different they are still need each other, aakhir kar din beet jaane ke baad koi ek toh balcony mei sath baithke chai peene wala chahiye hota hai, Chahe ya toh vo khud tum aur tumhare khyal ho ya phir koi tumhe khayalo mei rakhne wala ho. Now that I am older I find this fascinating.

Durga Puja had just begun in Kolkata. Orhaan skipped back home from school, gawking at the durgo pandals being set up. He had stopped at Kaka's store to pick up some khoya. Kaka's wife had lovingly fed him a peda and wished him a happy Durga puja. This is what he loved about the festival. The joy in the city, the colourful pandals, the abundance of sweets, the loudness of the festivities. Oh, but what he looked forward to the most was the Kheer Kadam his mother made. Making the dessert was a strenuously long process and that was why it was made in the house annually on the occasion of Durga Puja.
He sprinted a little on nearing his home, haphazardly took off his shoes and ran inside the house as he sniffed the aroma of the chashni cooling in the kitchen. The Roshogollas were already made. He handed the khoya to his mother and ran to the gorge on a Roshogolla while his mother chided him for eating without washing his hands. After quickly changing, he ran back to the kitchen to gobble one of the chenna balls soaked in chashni directly from the bowl, earning a glare from his mother for it.
His mother had begun to roast the khoya and was grating half a coconut on the side counter. Orhaan begged his mother to let him grate the coconut but his mother shooed him, said he was too young a child to be able to grate. What if he cut his finger? What if he had none left to eat the Kheer Kadam? The thought was enough for him to remain mum and listen to her. The coconut crinkled as it's moisture evaporated on mixing with the roasted khoya, leaving behind a pleasant scent in the house. After adding in the powdered cardamom, the dough was kneaded and made Into little balls which Orhaan helped in flattening out. The Roshogollas were wrapped with the khoya dough, and then rolled in powdered sugar and grated coconut. The plate of sugar coated Kheer Kadam was popped into the refrigerator to be chilled for an hour. Now this was the hardest part. The waiting.
His mother had handed him a glass of saffron tinted badam milk and they'd spoken about how his day at school had gone by, what they were going to do for the rest of the vacation, which was the grandest pandal they'd come across and when they were going to visit Chacha's house. And before he realised, the hour had gone by. He jumped in an unsuccessful attempt to suppress his taste buds as his mother carefully removed the plate from the refrigerator. She fed him the Kheer Kadam which he gobbled whole to keep the chashni from dripping. His antics had made his mother giggle and kiss him on the forehead. "Shubo Durga Puja babu".
It had been many years since then, and many more Kheer Kadams since that one. Orhaan was returning home after a year. It was Durga puja again, and his mother was making Kheer Kadam. Again. He'd insisted she make the dessert with him and that he would bring the khoya himself, just like the old times. He stepped inside the house to the familiar scent. His mother hugged him as he hugged her back after placing the khoya next to the chashni soaked chenna balls. He chuckled. She'd already made the Roshogollas, just like she always had. This time he grated the coconut himself while she sautéed the khoya in the pan. He looked at her adoringly as she wrapped the Kheer Kadams. He still loved everything about Durga Puja that he did as a child. The joy in the city, the colourful pandals, the abundance of sweets, the loudness of the festivities. He still loved the Kheer Kadam. But what he looked forward to the most now was that hour long conversation he had with her over a glass of Badam milk. This time he had much more than a day's talk to catch upto. They spoke about his hostel, his education, the life plans ahead and eventually diverted back to what they'd do for the rest of the festival, the list of pandals to hop to and the other developments in the city since he'd been away.
An hour clocked and Orhaan and his mother pulled out the plate of Kheer Kadams. She fed him the sweet which he ate whole just as eagerly as when he was a child. A lot had changed since, yet a lot had remained the same.
"Shubo Durga Puja babu" she said as she kissed him tenderly on his forehead.

The recipe in short ;)
Boil some milk and squeeze lemon into it to prepare your chenna. Roll the chenna dough into small balls and boil in chashni (sugar syrup) and then let cool. Meanwhile roast khoya till brown and add grated coconut and cardamom. Flatten out the khoya balls and wrap the chenna ball rasgullas and finally roll in powdered sugar and grated coconut. Refrigerate and gobble ;)

Sea- The peace , The serenity & The sunsets
We all have been asked a question since childhood , what do you like ? Beach or mountain ? I was also no different, I also have been asked numerous times - beach or mountain? My answer was always consistent - A Beach , the beautiful sunrise and the peaceful sunset .
I hail from the city of joy , Kolkata and I am a proud Bengali . I am brought up in Kolkata , so I had to travel either to a place named “digha” in West Bengal or “Puri” in Orissa to enjoy sea beaches . These two beaches are basically closest to Kolkata .
Since childhood, I have been there multiple times, but somehow my heart was looking for something else . My heart was looking for calmness that the sound of the wave brings when it touches the land .
I was merely 14 years old when my father told me that we are going to Andaman & Nicobar to have a holiday . I was excited for two reasons . One reason is clear to all of you but the second reason was , I was boarding flight for first time in my life . Though my father has already travelled by air , but this was first time for my mother as well . It was a 5 am flight and I clearly don’t remember the month of travelling . We were all excited and giggling when we put our first foot on the flight . Being the only child, it was pretty easy for me to get the window seat. I remember it was an air India flight and we enjoyed our journey throughout. But , I felt the real excitement when I saw the scattered islands from airplane and I was mesmerised by the beauty of nature earth . We had an amazing trip there for 7 days and my eyes were full of tears when we took the return flight .
Since then , I have travelled many sea beaches . I found different experience in every single sea beach . Some beaches are full of crowd where people are enjoying with family & friends and some beaches are calm where lovers are holding hands and walking around to experience the love with the calmness of the nature .
The picture you see above is taken by my wife , is in Morjim beach , Goa . I have been in Goa multiple times like every party lover. But sitting in a shack and looking at the sea from morning to late evening in Morjim beach , there is no other place in the world where people can find more peace . The beach is calm , less crowded and safe to take a dip in the water . I have been there multiple times and I have never got bored , I can still close my eyes and visualise the sunset. I wish , I can go there many more times , roam around on the beach , eat coconuts , sea foods and lots of beer. Few events in your life stay with you forever, and travelling to Morjim beach is one of them. If you never travelled there, you should definitely go there.
With this thought , Signing off today .
Take care .
