Webtoon: After School Lessons for Unripe Apples (ch 1 to 126)

Why do I do this to myself? To try chasing my Lovely Runner blues away, now I'm hooked to korean webtoon ASLFUA 😭! Which is exponentially worse because 1. it's still ongoing, 2. not 100% assured the OTP will end up together (Soonki pls pinky promise me). Well, at least it has free official eng translations (big plus)!

Got curious because I saw the fanart. It's not an art style I usually go for, but the author is Soonkki. Cheese in the trap was a kdrama I was intrigued of from the start (Jung!), but didn't get to finish because of the negative reviews, but I'll check out the webtoon soon which is finished yay!

Lovely Runner made me miss coming of age, youth romance stories, so this one really fits the bill. Cheol is a very tall big built male lead, while Mi-ae is a small pea, which reminded me a lot of the Sun Jae-Sol dynamic. But that's where most of the similarities end. This is about Mi-ae's school life adventures, trying her hardest to be friends with the new scary deskmate (who of course is a softie inside), trying his darnest to be inconspicuous at school, and failing miserably at ignoring her lol.

A very very slow burn, slice of life kind of feel at the start, a lot of studying involved, but once it gets going, I finished 3 years worth of content in a daze in 2 days! I'm kind of weak for the energizer bunny girl chasing after the grumpy broody guy trope, so this is right up my alley.

Mi-ae is just a ball of positivity. She can be sad of stuff, but not for long. Cheol who only wants to be on the down low, and wants nothing to do with such a quirky chaotic girl, but of course he can't help himself. He's just so protective of those he perceived to be picked upon. Seeing closed up Cheol gradually opening up because of Mi-ae's exuberance is a joy to watch.

Following Cheol and Mi-ae growing up together, traversing school, friendship, and sorting out their inexplicable confusing feelings (squeeee). The whole series is such a happy pill! Can't wait to see more after school group hijinks, and the growth of all the characters and their relationships.

Note: there is some triggering content like school corporal punishment, bullying, but nothing too detailed on page.

Spoilers:

My fave story arcs so far:

- Relentless Mi-ae asking frenemy Honggyu for soccer lessons because of Cheol, and clueless protective Cheol getting frustrated where Mi-ae keeps running off with scrapes all over. This is the arc where Cheol finally got worn down and accepted her millionth time offer of friendship lol.

- Jinseop's hilarious haircut scene! Enough said.

- Jinseop, who you'll first think as the love triangle or bully, suddenly becomes Cheol's and Mi-ae's love cupid to propel these two clueless lovebirds along.

- Cheol going absolutely bonkers about that accidental kiss. Priceless.

- Honggyu and Mi-ae's whole chaotic birthday arc where the gang helped Honggyu escape bullies. Starts with Cheol's jealousy antics, showing up suddenly on Jinseop and Mi-ae's impromptu date, and ended the adventurous day with crumbs of Cheol-Mae sweetness.

Can't wait for more...the mystery of Jisu (the real love triangle?), and Cheol's past/scar! Oh no it doesn't really bode well for me to get invested as CITT completed in 7 yrs. No thanks Soonkki, for the torture of ending the eng webtoon so far in a kiss-hanger. It's like a treat and torture at the same time.

Worst second lead syndrome in KDRAMA?

there's a couple of contenders :'D

mr. sunshine: gu dong mae and kim hui seong

when the female lead has 3 love interests and you like 2 of them way more than the one who was endgame 🤡. dong mae/ae sin reminded me so, so much of a more dark version of one of my eternal OTPs, renji/rukia from bleach: childhood connection, woman from a noble class, guy from a rough background, they separate and reconnect years later. although in mr. sunshine the guy turns to organized crime :'| but the pining. the scene where ae sin's dress goes over dong mae's hands will keep me fed for years!

hui seong on the other hand was just so damn likeable. i have a thing for the Sad Clown character archetype and i think him and ae sin could have really understood each other given some more time, but sadly that doesn't exist for ANY of the couples in this drama.

lol the second lead syndrome that got me to drop an entire drama :'D i remember their kiss scene at the party and how it cut to him having to run extra laps during baseball practice but he was smiling the whole time and i was like no i cant watch this guy become a punching bag for 10 more eps :'D

on the one hand, we got a certified Weirdo who is super into the female lead before her makeover, is supportive of her at work, and looks like the center of one of the biggest kpop groups of all time?

on the other hand, we got a mean boss who used to be a childhood friend, but apparently doesn't recognize her anymore because she's no longer hot

like. this was no contest??

cheese in the trap: baek in ho

now that i've read the webtoon, i actually like the main couple a little more, but in terms of drama!CITT, it should have been baek in ho all the way. the two had way more chemistry, better scenes, and better development. it says something that i was way sadder about their friendship breakup than hong seol's breakup with her actual boyfriend

my first first love: seo do hyun

SONG YI LITERALLY SAID HE WAS HER LOVE STORY?! ugh!!!! this one continues to baffle me, because they actually dated in the drama, had great chemistry, and the only reason they drifted apart was because do hyun had family obligations and couldnt just drop everything at any moment the way tae oh could. tae oh + song yi felt shoehorned in together at the end, and their love story fell flat comparatively. tbh i interpret do hyun's present to song yi as a "see you when you're ready for your second husband" beginning and i will not accept other interpretations

this one-sided love story totally wrecked me. he mentored her, he betrayed their organization to save her life, she shot him for it. he comes back as a ghost and still loves her ;; like!!! ahhhhhhh. it didn't help that se ju was a dick for the first half of the drama. the scene with seol's shoelaces coming undone and "someone's missing you" will wreck me until the end of my days

Literally just finished watching Revolutionary Love, and Byun Hyuk is not the only one that fell in love with Baek Joon’s strong personality. Totally love this girl!!!

There were several kdramas that I discontinued because I was bored and just sorta disliked it (like it’s not my type). Most of these are action-genred dramas and the ones that are political and pretty heavy (like I didn’t finish vagabond and k2 although they are actually really good ones, I just don’t really like the genres that’s all), but out of all of these I’d probably hv to choose Abyss (stopped watching it after only 2 episodes) or Cheese In The Trap (THE ENDING OMGG I WANNA CRY 😭😭 CITT IS LITERALLY MY FAV WEBTOON AND THE DRAMA’S ENDING RUINED THE WHOLE THING)

19. How were you introduced to kdrama?

Well I’ve known kdramas ever since I was little (I used to join my cousins sometimes while they were watching them) but as a summary, I liked dramas because of webtoon (like drama genre yk) and at that time my cousins and one of my aunt who were at my house at the time were binge-watching CLOY so I sorta joined and watched like half of it, and when it was done there were other kdrama reccs there (we were watching it on netflix) and one of them was WWWSK and I was sorta interested and curious so I decided to watch it with my aunt. Ever since then I’ve been obsessed with kdramas that I binge-watch them everyday lol

Technically the first drama I’ve finished was What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (step one on being a PSJ fan woohoooo), but back then when I was little I sometimes joined my cousins when they were watching The Heirs and My Love From The Star

Ooh, the Jang family from Itaewon Class got me on my nerves but both psychopaths from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and Suspicious Partner are definitely really annoying like why would u kill people for no reason you 미친 사이코 또라이

Wow tbh nope, I never really liked noona romances, I mean like I’m already sorta uncomfortable when the lead man is older than the lead woman by like a decade or somn (like goblin omg), so like imagine if the woman is now older than the man by a decade (I mean like tbh I don’t rlly like it whenever the girl is older than the guys but eh whatevs)

LITERALLY WATCHING IT RN AND I FEEL SO BAD FOR KIM SHIN HYUK OMGG 😭😭 (oh and also CITT’s Baek In Ho, like I didn’t ship them at all in the webtoon but their chemistry in the drama is urghhh I feel so bad for my babyy 😭 that’s also how I became a Seo Kang Joon fan YASSS)

Well if you’re talking about drama that I watched this year, it’ll be too many as I’ve only just started watching kdramas literally March this year, so I’ll only perceive this as my favorite drama that was released in 2020, which is Backstreet Rookie although a lot of ppl actually hated it. Personally I disagree with those points too (adult webtoon, prostitution, underaged kissing, etc) but I really like how it’s such a funny comical drama, like those types of dramas are my favorite
