Citroën CX 2000, 1974. Also designed by Robert Opron, the CX benefited from some of the technological advances made by the SM including DIRAVI variable assist power steering. Originally the CX was to be powered by a Comrotor Wankel engine but by 1974 the shortcomings of the rotary engine (high fuel consumption, poor reliability)had become obvious and Citroën's new large car was launched with the same 4 cylinder engines as the DS it replaced.

What a difference 50 years makes juxtaposition of Citroën CX 2200, 1974 & Citroën  C5 X Hypnos, 2024. A new flagship for Citroën's saloon car range, the Hypnos is finished in Eclipse Blue that changes character depending on the lighting conditions.It is powered by the 225 ë-EAT8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain comprising a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine and a single electric motor, producing a combined 225hp. It also comes with Advanced Comfort active suspension which offers something approaching the ride comfort of the CX's hydropneumatic suspension
