[ Past Wounds Arc - Peaceful Kingdom]
- - -
All seems well in the kingdom on a sunny day. New faces have arrived for visits and leisure, and current residents seem to be welcoming those who are here for the first time. All seems peaceful.
A rumbling in the distance, however, seems to say otherwise, completely missed by the citizens of the kingdom...

Isn't ruling a kingdom, like, damn stressful and demanding? Yet, I see the dear rulers adventure around without a worry in the world. Play and mingle with the common folk like no big deal.
There are rules and laws to be made and enforced, costructions to be planned, suggestions to be approved or denied. You'd need riches to keep all in order, to pay for repairs or new projects. Armies and resources to be paid off, all since you mentioned you indeed possess troops.
Sure, things can be gradually done by hand, but not on a scale that a kingdom would demand.
How do you even keep all your people in line? This isn't a fairytale nor are all your citizens saints, I assume. Do you just kick the violent kind out? How are rules enforced? Not everyone bows down to kindness and sweetness. Not every conflict can be solved with a talk and a pat on the back.
How do you keep your people save from within the walls? Corruption can take hold any place after all. Don't trust your people too much that they won't try overthrow you one way or another.

Celina: "I know we'll need more nobles and people to help if the kingdom grows, but I also know that our kindness has changed many people. We're dedicated to them, and we will not let anyone suffer or feel like this place is hostile. We'll protect our people. We haven't had any kind of rebellion or uprisings, but we know how many people would help if it came down to it to stop it."
Celina: "We love our people. I just hope a day never comes where we'll have to raise a blade to a former citizen."

Man, your place must be popular amongst travelers and heroes. Lush wilderness, a vast variety of people. Do you have any establishments that are popular with heroes and adventurers? Like a particularily well-known tavern or inn? Maybe a certain weapon- or armorsmith people praise on their way?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Celina: "So, yes, we have a couple of well known places that many people from outside the kingdom know and speak of. We try to be very kind and welcome those with good intentions with open arms. We want this kingdom to be a haven, a sanctuary, for those who have been wronged unfairly and those who have been hurt."

I threw in a fun nod to my favorite gaming youtuber. Don't think too much of it, it was mostly for fun. :)
Thanks for this interesting ask, Anon! :D]

Are raids a concern at all?
Heard you had quite the history with brines, mob hordes and other grand schemes. But how about the smaller but common danger of illager raids? Do they bother you at all?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Irona: "There are very far and few between raids that try to reach the kingdom. Most of them run away from Brine and even Celina, considering her fighting skills. Any that don't are fought to keep our people safe. We do know illagers are sentient, but they make the mistake of trying to hurt our people when it comes down to it."
Irona: "We haven't slain many illagers, most retreat when we confront them."

How far does your kingdom spread? Is it just the main city the castle is at or do you have surrounding villages and settlements under your rule as well?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cenlar: 'That's how far our kingdom reaches, but as we've gotten more residents and buildings, we may have to expand a bit. I don't think gaining more land is a big interest to us. We'd rather keep our people happy then conquer.'

I really had fun drawing the houses and the castle for this one! I had to look up a few things for ideas on how to draw the front of the castle, but I like how this came out!
Thanks for this awesome ask, Anon. :)]

Is there something like a shop or a bakery with specialties and trinkets of the kingdom you'd recommend to a traveler?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Celina: "Sienna's bakery specializes in any kind of baked good you can think of. Her and her employees are exceptional at making goods. And much of the sales from Margie's shop go back to the citizens who decide to sell wares in her shop."
Celina carefully pulls a plate with what appears to be a pastel rainbow colored brownie on it from her inventory, offering it to the Anon.
Tumblr media
Celina: "This little treat is a specialty of mine, rainbow brownies. I make them from a family recipe of mine. If you'd like, you can take a few with you! I'll let you try this one, see if you like it!"
