SOOT STAINED CHEEKS lift up with her crooked grin, as Laika pushes her goggles off her eyes.  The frames squish her already pinned-back fringe, unevenly pinching her hair.  She dusts dirt and cinders off her crimson sari, standing next to her handiwork - a pile of fallen rocks, which had so nearly landed on her, and the metal guardians, still crackling with magic, underneath the rubble. 

Now, to be clear, crushing herself with the debris had not been her plan.  Granted, she hadn't had much time to plan.  They had been taking a beating.  Laika had been pinned by her lonesome, in the corner of a cave, with no way out but through.  Really her not-quite-yet-battle-tested concoction was the best solution she had.  She'd aimed the flask carefully, her target a stalactite, one that shook every time the guardian stamped its foot down. It wouldn't need much force at all to come down, and the smoke produced would cover her escape, if the stalactite didn't finish the job.

Then, in a flash of aquamarine smoke, half of the cave ceiling collapsed.

Laika had avoided most of it, though she could feel a bruise spreading down her shoulder.  Though she'd cleared a hole small enough for her to scramble through, Laika could tell there was some annoyance in her companion's voice.  Or at least, she thought it was annoyance.

“ It's my greatest skill, Ciril! ” Her voice is half laughter, giddy from the rush.  Something about danger was electric in her veins, and she chatters on, “ All I need to do is adjust the ratios of quicksilver in that one - or maybe there's something in the cave it reacted with?  That blast radius was far too large, and way more than it ever produced in my lab!  ”

Facts. I am so tired of people assuming that every text in cirillic is russian. People forget that Russia jist adapter cirillic and it's Bulgarias invention. If not Bulgaria, no one would use cirillic. Yet ofc in western minds russian created cirillic alphabet. Plus hate for people who are like "uh russia bad so let's force all cirillic-writing countries to adapt latin script". NO, WHY? Why gave that archievement to Russia and strip bulgarians out of their legacy and invention?

Please, when you see something written in Cyrillic, don't assume right away that it's russian. Russian is not the only language that uses Cyrillic. There are also Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Serbian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Mongolian.

It's a sensitive topic especially for us Ukrainians because russian language is a weapon. It's a colonial language, it's presented like one and only true slavic language, it erases and replaces other languages. Belarusian is literally on the verge of extinction because of russian. Ukrainian has been banned 134 times throughout history, it is still called a "village language", a dialect of russian. Russian colonialism is literally the reason why there are so many russian speaking people in Ukraine (I was one of them btw). Ukrainian is banned on russian occupied territories and people are getting in trouble or even killed for using it there, Ukrainian POWs in russian captivity are getting brutally beaten for speaking Ukrainian.

Like okay, I can get why there's this confusion, so here's a clue to understand that the language you're looking at definitely is not russian — the letter і. If you see ї (like i but with two dots) it's 100% Ukrainian. If you see j it's Serbian. Russian alphabet also doesn't have such letters as Ђ, Љ, Њ, Ў, Џ (dont confuse with Ц ). Yes, it's not always gonna be easy to detect that the language in front of you is not russian, but when you have trouble with it just ask or run it through any translation app and it'll probably tell you the language.
