THE STEELY GAZE OF MODERNITY- I am really enjoying this photo of painter Bernard Boutet de Monvel and coveting his wonderfully graphic ensemble.

I can’t find an exact date on this, I want to say circa 1931? If anyone knows for sure do let me know!

Minnie Chaplin was born Minnie Gilbert. She was an actress, known for "A Dog's Life" (1918), "A Submarine Pirate" (1915), "A Lover's Lost Control" (1915), "Gussle Tied to Trouble" (1915), "Gussie's Backward Way" ( 1915) and "Gussle Rivals Jonah" (1915). She married Sydney Chaplin - Charlie's older brother - before 1914 in England.

She died on September 3, 1936, at the age of 44, in France (precisely: Nice, Alpes-Maritimes Department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France) - after surgery.
