A Taste of What Was Missing//@mischiefmandate & @ciphertwin
Hours after Miu had finished her work, the dining hall table was filled with a carefully-selected menu of even more carefully cooked dishes. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were on the table and it was barely a few minutes before the morning announcements usually sounded.
That meant the twins would be coming soon, to taste their first meal.
Not that they knew it yet. She’d been vague about everything but the meeting time and place.
Tumblr media
“Hey you two, it’s done.” Miu didn’t elaborate beyond flicking open a plastic case, pulling each of their hands forward, and dispensing a chalky-looking tablet into each of their palms: she was dead tired and details of things were escaping her after such a late night, but she’d chased her ambition into the wee hours and finally, finally hit the breakthrough she needed, and no way could she sleep until she saw whether or not it worked.
It would have to be enough that there were pancakes, eggs, sandwiches, dressed salad, cheese and crackers, fruits and vegetables, buttered fluffy whipped mashed potatoes with crispy breaded katsu and all the other side dishes she could think to make on the table.
And of course, purple Panta.
“Chew these completely-the important thing is to let it coat your whole tongue. I’m too tired to explain, so just-trust me.”
A beat.
“The food’s for you guys.” She finally remembered to add, plopping down into one of the chairs and clicking a pen open over the notebook she’d brought to record her results.

“Have you ever made any kind of spy robots before? Would that even be a good idea? Robots can’t exactly move like people, huh, it’d be easy to catch them.”
Kurochi had a lot of questions for the Ultimate Robotics Engineer, some of them purely whimsical. He loved the idea of high-tech spy gear, although he wasn’t involved in a scene where he’d have access to it, and robots seemed to be part of the ideal.
“I heard a lot of robots are super easy to hack if you don’t make good security measures, so it’d kinda be dumb to send in a clunky robot that just gets caught–. Oh, but I guess they could just self-destruct anyway.”
│⚙️│ “Robots built for the purpose of spying would be small and quiet, much like a bug device. Though, I can’t exactly say I’ve ever actually built a robot with that exact purpose in mind...”
Kibo frowned somewhat, letting out a small hum of thought. Kurochi’s questions regarding ‘spy’ robots had definitely interested him; it certainly wouldn’t be out of the question for someone such as him to build and create a wide array of robots specifically designed for the purposes of obtaining information in various locations. But the robotics engineer always saw his robots as people no matter what; wouldn’t it be cruel to force them into such a role?
Tumblr media
“Firstly, don’t simply blurt out that term! Self-destructing is a sensitive term for robots!” Kibo called out, pointing an accusatory finger in Kurochi’s direction, before forcefully making himself relax. “And secondly, it would be incredibly difficult for a hacker to access any of my code present within my robots. Not only is it difficult, I have equipped each one with many defensive firewalls. I refuse to let any hacker attempt to hurt my robots...”

Kurochi’s laughter died down into stray giggles, the kind that would burst from his chest as he thought about what had set off his laughter to begin with. He wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes. Even though he’d stopped laughing, he couldn’t wipe the smile from his face.
He liked this, being so close to Kaito. Even if his heart beat unbearable quick when they touched, or his face burst into flames if their eyes caught at just the right moment. These moments, where they could laugh so hard together, and stay comfortable even as they fell silent, they were too precious for him to give up.
“Hey…”
Kaito’s voice drew his gaze back onto his face. Kurochi gave him a curious look, complete with a quizzical tilt of his head. He didn’t expect the question to come out of his mouth.
“Ah?” At first all Kurochi could do was make a helpless noise. Forget the racing heartbeat; his heart stopped altogether. “I–. Uh…”
In his view, that hesitance alone was damning. Still, Kurochi couldn’t bring himself to answer right away, his eyes scanning desperately over Kaito’s features. What did Kaito think of it? Would it be a good or a bad thing, if they were really flirting with each other?
Kurochi hadn’t meant to flirt with Kaito. Not so obviously, at least. He’d accepted already that Kaito just wouldn’t ever like him back. He bit his lower lip, terrified of how to answer.
If he said that the flirting wasn’t serious, that they were just friends, Kurochi was sure that Kaito would take his word on it. He wouldn’t ask him again, and any faint hope that Kaito would return his feelings would be snuffed out forever. But if he said that it was serious… If Kurochi admitted that he thought of Kaito as something other than a friend…
What would Kaito think of him if he didn’t feel the same as Kurochi?
Unable to hold his gaze on Kaito’s face any longer, Kurochi’s eyes dropped to the floor. He squeezed his hands together, willing himself to speak. It still took him a solid minute to work up the courage.
“I-is it… would it be a bad thing if it was serious?”
Kurochi’s hesitance in answering tied Kaito’s stomach into knots, and if it weren’t for the way his throat constricted and stole his ability to speak, he might’ve snatched back up the question with a forced laugh. But all he could do was wait through the torturous minute for Kurochi to finally respond.
His non-answer and returning of the question increased Kaito’s nerves tenfold. The ball was in his court, despite his attempt to get an idea of Kurochi’s feelings before confessing anything and making things awkward between them. Not that things weren’t already; his question had made Kurochi nervous as well, that much was clear.
Kaito just couldn’t tell if it was nervousness from admitting any feelings, or nervousness for potentially having to let Kaito down. The question leaned towards the former, but... It didn’t make it any less intimidating.
“Well, I mean... I... I don’t think it would be bad..?” His voice broke in the middle of his response, and he felt his face heat up all the way to his ears. But even if he was embarrassed, it was too late to back down now. “I wouldn’t... think it was bad, at least.”
He swallowed, averting his eyes. His chest felt so tight, and his fingers curled into fists to help calm the trembling in his arms. His body wanted to run away, pumping adrenaline through his veins to attempt to urge him into motion. It didn’t want to hear the answer, too afraid that it would be negative, that it would be rejection. But at the same time, his legs were frozen, too stiff to move.
Whatever Kurochi’s reaction was, he would have to face it.

can’t put my finger on it//@ciphertwin
Rantaro had gotten an early start in the dining hall, having brought out a kit containing a travel-sized amount of nail and cuticle oil, a buffing and shining block, a nail file, and some hand lotion.
He knew, reasonably, that there wasn’t a reason to feel nervous about Kurochi coming to meet him. They’d crossed paths in the dining hall the day before while making lunch, and it’d been then that he’d glimpsed the elder Ouma twin’s hands and made a friendly offer of some nail grooming after some pleasant conversation about his experiences with his sisters.
Tumblr media
(...I’m too early, aren’t I. Maybe he’d like some tea?)
Quickly finding something to occupy himself, he’d no sooner set some water to boil than he heard the dining hall doors open.
“Oh hey, is that you?” Rantaro gave a warm smile in Kurochi’s direction over his shoulder. “Sorry to keep you waiting, but I thought I’d make something warm to drink. You like anything in yours? It’s just chamomile. You can get comfortable, I got it all set up.”

Send me ♥ and I’ll write some positivity for you.
I would actually bet money on it being Rylie that sent the anon.
L, you’re extremely admirable because despite your reserved nature, you work so hard every day and you’re still able to write amazing fics, drabbles, and roleplay posts. There’s a lot of talent in this, and you certainly have it. You’re a quiet and steady force to be reckoned with and I fell in love with Kurochi fairly early on.
God, I was so nervous at first because I was afraid I’d be boring--or that everything I’d do had already been done, but I enjoy our interactions a hell of a lot. You reassure me silently in every post because Kurochi is a vivid character, and every scene is unique, and I see this in the writing.
You have a talent, L. I always look forward to our threads!

📋 “Am I...am I making y...you unc-c-comfortable..?” Elijah still struggled reading emotions, empathy being a near impossible task for him. But he could swear he could see the flicker of something in the other boy’s eyes as he tapped one of his carving tools on the side of the sink to shake any bits of blue wax stuck to it. His eyes wandered back to the scalpels and sickles probes on the washcloth next to him.

Might as well start off with the ‘protag’, yeah? Anyway, her name is Hitomi Abe! She would be apart of class 80th and her Ultimate title is ‘Ultimate Honors Student’! She’s a pretty easgygoing, if not a little eccentric at times; normal girl. But as her talent implies; she is extremely academically intelligent, due to studying like hell in a variety of subjects and thus, practically getting straight A’s like it’s nothing.
Appearance wise, she pretty much wears a light blue sailor fuku, along with her ‘signature’ yellow cardigan since she pretty much always wears it with her uniform, and also being a pretty big fan of the color yellow, eheh. A normal sounding appearance, I know: but that’s exactly what I was aiming for, since I wanted her to fit into the ‘ordinary protag’ kind of look, yeah?

starter for @ciphertwin !
He’d never really gotten a good look at the outside world. Whatever it had been before he was captured, it probably looked way worse now. Not that Gonta cared. What he did care about was that it always smelled like something - or someone? - was on fire. No matter where he went he was met with that burning stench.      It made it incredibly difficult to navigate. All he had to rely on was his hearing in a world smothered in flames and debris. At the very least the streets he walked on were relatively quiet, making it easy to tell if someone was dumb enough to follow him.
Being lost in his thoughts like he was now was probably how he had ended up tripping over the giant... something in front of him. Gonta let out a strangled cry as he fell down what he assumed was some sort of crater. Metal clanged together once he hit the bottom, feeling something warm on his left arm. Blood? Moving it only brought a shout of pain as what felt like barbed wire dug into his arm-
-chains dragging him to god knows where, people in bear masks laughing maniacally as he struggled to break free, humiliating and hurting him-
The memories made him scream, the fingers of his free hand digging into his forehead as he sunk to the ground. More of the wire dug into his legs and he leaped back in shock, dragging the wire in his arm across his skin. There was - footsteps? He quickly fell silent, head whipping around to try and find where they were coming from. It was from above, which made that difficult and only made him all the more paranoid.
     “Who’s there?!”

“Ouch!”
Kurochi didn’t cook very often, and it seemed like the world agreed with that state of being. Not only could he not taste–a huge disadvantage while adding spices–but he didn’t handle a knife with the greatest skill. He’d been chopping things up, closely following the recipe pulled up on his phone, when he slipped. The edge nicked his hand and he hissed in pain.
The knife clattered onto the counter as he dropped it, pulling his hand away. He hoped it might’ve been a superficial cut, one which didn’t even draw blood, but unfortunately he wasn’t so lucky. He rinsed it and grabbed the closest thing–a towel. He wrapped it around his hand, holding it tightly to the tiny wound he’d made.
Yikes, well, so much for trying to make a surprising dinner. Maybe this was fate telling him that cooking would never be a skill of his.
Jaden had been doodling on his tablet when he heard Kurochi cry out from the kitchen. He immediately sprung into action, not caring about the supposed surprise Kurochi had planned for him.
It didn’t take Jaden long at all to find Kurochi cradling a wound on his hand, and Jaden immediately moved towards Kurochi with a worried expression.
Tumblr media
Are you okay? he signed, hands moving quickly and with urgency. Here, sit down at the kitchen table. I’ll go get the first aid.
Jaden quickly rushed out of the kitchen to the bathroom, snatching up the first aid kit as soon as he saw it and bringing it back to the kitchen table.
What is with you and your brother and nicking your hands all of the time? Jaden signed, frowning. Whether it be Kokichi’s recklessness with playing the Knife game or Kurochi cooking... well, the were identical twins, after all. Let me see it.

As much as Miu Iruma hated the idea of someone else touching her computer, she’d created something of a mess for herself that only the Ultimate Cryptographer had a chance at unraveling.
She already had an eccentric enough way of writing her code and naming her programming variables, but the circumstances leading up to her meekly and sincerely beseeching Kurochi to come look at her laptop for her were out of her control, and the things she’d done in such a state of mind had been anything but voluntary. It was no longer something she could fix herself: her lack of sleep (planned sleep, rather) was taking its toll on her and as frightening as it was to risk a narcoleptic episode around someone she mostly knew in passing, she figured she’d take the problems one at a time until she wasn’t such a hot mess.
Miu looked it, too. The heaviness from under her eyelids and the red tinge in her sclera from staring at her screen (and maybe crying at her predicament) gave her a ghastly complexion.
She wouldn’t be surprised if her appearance and the way that she’d absolutely butchered her code made Kurochi suspect some sort of substance abuse.
So she waited for him to make progress, even though it killed her to sit still, even though she couldn’t help but agonize over all the time she’d wasted in creating this problem.
And then he finished.
Somehow, some way, he’d untangled her absolute dumpster fire of a coding nightmare and even notarized them on a separate sheet of paper for her.
“Y-You did it...?” She intoned with awe, “For real?!” Holy shit, the nightmare was over. “Oh my god I could kiss you!”
Tumblr media
The words flew so easily from her mouth, but damn if she cared. The sheer relief of having all of her work salvaged, not wasted, washed over her and a little bit of cheer finally returned to her eyes.

He didn’t answer right away, stiff as he stared beyond the camp perimeter, each shadow suspicious. Kurochi had thought that he’d seen movement there, but after further inspection he couldn’t find the source. It couldn’t be a zombie; those didn’t bother with hiding from view. Right?
Maybe he was seeing things though. Kurochi hadn’t been sleeping well since the start of this whole mess, and it only got worse after hearing of the death of his brother. He rubbed his eyes, as if convincing himself of that would dispel his uneasiness.
“I don’t know. I thought I saw something move, though,” he said finally, hugging himself. “It could just be nothing…”
Which regardless, it’d probably be a good idea to check it out anyway. He just hated the thought of causing a search to happen for no reason but his own imagination.
│⚙️│ Kiibo kept himself rooted to the spot, awaiting an answer from Kurochi. Of course, he could guess what the other might’ve seen, considering the situation they were in, but was that possible? Zombies didn’t exactly have the logical forethought to hide behind something if someone had seen them, instead choosing to aimlessly wander around or go for the attack.
Even with a quick scan of the area where he’d thought he’d noticed something, there was nothing mobile of note. The robot frowned somewhat, before quickly inputting the image of the area within his memory bank. His inner camera function would really mess with his battery power if he even left it running, let alone taking pictures.
“You may have imagined it. Or perhaps it might’ve been a small animal?”
Yet, Kiibo really did want to check the area, if only to help ease Kurochi’s worries. The poor guy had to deal with both the apocalypse and his brother’s death, and the robot felt complied to help him out to the best of his ability. He gestured to Kuroichi, before pointing straight towards the area.

“If only to ease your worries, perhaps we should examine the area? We may find something of interest.”

Once the main danger had passed and the two were in relative safety, something inside him cracked. The urge to cry that he’d suppressed now surged forward again, more intense now that it was mingled with relief. His eyes stung with hot tears, right before he threw himself forward, burying his face into Kaito’s chest.
Such a dramatic display of emotion wasn’t normal for Kurochi, but considering that he’d spent the last few days searching for his kidnapped partner, the dramatics could be forgiven.
Tumblr media
“I thought–. I thought you were gonna die, I thought I was gonna lose you and I was looking so hard…. Everywhere I could think of.” He was half-babbling, muffled and shaking voice likely making it difficult to understand what he was saying.
He pulled back, abrupt and shaking. His hands crept up toward Kaito’s face, examining it through his blurred vision. Trembling fingers pressed lightly into his cheeks, as if to make sure it was real. Afraid that he’d somehow just dreamed of finding and getting his partner out of that place.
“Are you ok? Did they do anything–did they hurt you?” Kurochi hadn’t had much time to check in the moment.
Tumblr media
Kurochi’s weight colliding into him was usually something that hardly moved him, but he couldn’t deny that his time in captivity had left him somewhat weaker than normal. He did catch himself with only a slight adjustment of his stance, and his surprise was quickly discarded by the muffled sobbing words in his chest.
It pulled at his heart, and his hands quickly found the small of his partner’s back, attempting to comfort him in some sort of way. Knowing that Kurochi had worked so hard to find him, that he had worried so much about his safety... It made tears of his own well up in his eyes.
Kurochi’s fingers on his cheek made his chest burn with affection, a spark that only added to the fire that had long since started. If it weren’t for the circumstance at hand... Yes, it was very likely he might’ve acted on impulse.
“I’m okay, I’m okay.” His reassurance came in quick breaths, less from the run they’d just finished and more from the building emotions and the need to soothe Kurochi’s fears.
However, he wouldn’t lie to his partner. “Just some bruises, mainly, and I can’t really remember the last time I ate.” His body was sore, but through the adrenaline and his happiness it was easy to ignore.
“How about you? You didn’t get hurt, right?” He looked Kurochi up and down, making sure there was nothing done to him. If something had happened, he’d need to make sure to help him ASAP; he needed to repay him for the rescue, after all.

(If you're still doing the blind meme I'll totally take a blind Shuichi, pretend I actually sent the symbol here)
-- and YOU get a blind!Shuichi!
The silence used to be pleasant. Kurochi had been one of the comfortably quiet students at the academy, annoying sometimes but typically just content to stay to himself. He learned and investigated a lot like he himself did; books, actions, discovery and deduction. He didn’t doubt for a second that Kurochi could learn to do detective work too, though he felt less confident about cryptography himself. Was he just understating detective work...? He didn’t think so. Perhaps he was understating his own capabilities, then.
There was precious little in the hospital to do. The television was always on, but he was used to reading materials and had to learn braille before he could return to such. He wasn’t versed enough with his phone to manipulate it very well like this--texting and receiving texts was hard, but doable.
In his lap was a puzzle box, one of a few he’d been left with that didn’t require sight as much as sound. He’d managed to unlock it, but putting it back together was... Well, he lost track of a few pieces. They were in the room, certainly, but he couldn’t see the small pegs. It’d taken the better portion of an hour to try finding them but all he’d succeeded in doing was briefly losing the box and a nurse coming in to scold him for wandering around. At the very least, she’d returned that to him.
Kurochi’s entrance made his breath leave him for a moment; he always felt fear when someone came in, never quite sure who it was unless it was Kaito’s loud steps or Kokichi’s hurried ones.

Yule Cat, Vardøger
{ Scandinavian Folklore Based Questions }
Yule Cat: what sort of gift would your muse most like to receive? Do they tend to like more practical or frivolous things?
It’s hard to say considering this boy is not at all picky and even just the fact someone thought about him when giving him a gift makes him so happy and flattered? Though if you want some specifics, gifts related to his interests and talent especially appeal to him: like books [esp mystery genres], tea or coffee bags, journals, etc. But really, you could even give him something as mundane as a cheap sweater and he’d love it fjngjfjngf
So I guess in a sense, he likes practical things more: but they don’t always need to have some kind of important use, of course !
Vardøger: if your muse could talk to anyone in their past, whether living or deceased, who would it be and why?
Well, if taking into account who’s still alive: his parents are definitely a big contender. Well: in person, he’d want to talk to them because throughout the 8 years since they left him with his uncle, it’s rare he talks to them even indirectly via mail/text/call/etc. and even more rare he ever actually seen them in person.
He justs... wants to talk to his mom and dad in person. Is he subconsciously angry at them for neglecting him? Oh you bet: but even then, deep down, Shuichi really wants to have a better relationship with both of them. And while he can’t exactly be confident that even if he did talk to them in person, it’d go...exactly well, but still.

@ciphertwin ll From here
At her words, he raised a hand to his mouth. His fingers came away smeared with blood from a split lip. It felt like a bruise was forming on his cheek as well. Although he couldn’t see it, his face couldn’t look good. Better than it could’ve turned out though, if Tenko hadn’t jumped in when she did.
The trembling began in his fingers, realization dawning that he could’ve been seriously hurt. His vision swam as tears filled his eyes.
“I’m ok, I’m ok,” he said quickly, turning his face away to rub his eyes. Even as he shook from the leftover adrenaline in his body, he didn’t want Tenko to see him crying.
He already couldn’t believe Tenko had helped him at all. Even possibly gotten hurt for him? She said she was fine, but he wasn’t sure. It’d been a blur at the time, and his brain was still catching up.
🌸 She was reminded of some of the nights that inexplicably haunted her the most from her vigilante days. Despite knowing she was dealing with monsters when she looked over the streets, one too many times when she was a few years younger than now had she tried to interfere in fights among men.
They’ve only got themselves to blame.
Her master would tell her, holding back her naive self from letting ne’er do wells tear each other apart. The instinct should have been the same here. It should have been ingrained into her already that the only thing she was doing by saving a male’s life was to give him another chance to be a danger to society.
But her will had faltered, giving way to her heavy heart at the sight Kurochi being pulled around by his collar, rising an anger inside of her she didn’t dare try to explain. taking the damn sadist pushing him around by sweeping his feet underneath him, she wasn’t quite expecting the reaction she got from him to be as violent as it did. The sound of the gunshot was still ringing in her ears, one of the few pieces of technology she had seen many times before.
Tumblr media
“Y-you sure...?” she asked through a deep, painful breath, Tenko retracting her hand to move it to her injured side. The adrenaline was a few moments earlier had helped her ignore the pain and knock the gun out of his hands was starting to wear off. It was really starting to hurt.
“Geez...hey Ouma-san....just how bad is this for me...? I’ve never been shot before...”
