BROOK ▪︎ Thoughts: They say, the only thing certain about life is that it is uncertain. However, I think it’s that very uncertainty that makes the difference between journey and an adventure. Sure, it would be nice to hit the milestones right on time exactly as expected, about as nice as being able to predict every scene in a movie. The movie might turn out to be good, but it loses its lustre. There’s nothing left to discover. And I think it’s important to note that I don’t just refer to the good times. In fact, strangely enough, some of my best opportunities are often preceded by great difficulties. So, cross your fingers and wait. And while you’re at it, you might as well learn to enjoy the ride! BURIED┃Theme: Greed┃Précis: Biting off more than you can chew, not knowing when to stop, naivety.

Thoughts: It was asked to write what we see. I decided to take a different approach and invent a story of what I could see. I speak of hidden treasures; opening some secret door and stumbling upon them. In this story, the man tries to take all the treasures with him and breaks his back under the burden and dies. In the last stanza, I imply at wisdom by describing age and experience - he didn't understand the implication of the burden, a naive man.

However, there's more to this - the poem is a metaphor for memories,. By buried, I imply death - the past is dead and nothing lives there anymore.

Memories seem better than they truly are. With time, they look rosier. However, if you'll continue to live there, you won't get anywhere else. You'll continue to live in a place that doesn't exist. You cannot grow and you'll never learn anything new, never get to a better place and "die" in the exact spot that you are.

It might seem dramatic of me, but sometimes I find myself adamantly dragging around the past with me, happily subjecting myself to the burden because I like something, unable to let go of an ideal even if impractical. And I have to consciously remind myself to move on and be practical instead!

CORONA-CH: About the pandemic┃Theme: COVID19┃Précis: Life in the hospital, internship. ▪︎ ☆ Note: I wrote this for @train_river_publishing COVID19 anthology. #train_river_publishing ▪︎ Thoughts: I don't usually write description / chronicle type poems, but for some reason I wanted to write this one. • I was in the last few months of my internship when the pandemic had started. At first, of course we were worried because there wasn't enough data. There was wild speculation, conflicting studies... there was so much suspicion and worry. Sometimes, I didn't want to go to the hospital because it was so stressful worrying about COVID, not for myself but for my family. And the worst luck for me, too, considering I was posted in respiratory medicine in my last few weeks and every cough made me shudder, I was forcing patients to wear masks, as nicely as possible. I washed my hands so much, I got dermatitis. And then, we were worried because of the data. But the in-between was possibly the worst because there wasn't enough time to prepare for it. Supplies ran low, healthcare was inaccessible to those who really required it, those who might have had a fighting chance, perished. It was a mess. I kept telling myself that it was just a flu because there was a time when we got used to the "pandemic situation". We're doctors, we've seen 'awful things', right? And the death toll began to rise rapidly & the dread settled in once more. I was either busy & in denial, or free & depressed. There was no other mood. I saw the pandemic bring out the worst and best in people. MURDER FOR A JAR OF RED RUM ▪︎ ☆ Note: Entry for FFPC # 8 Prompt Challenge organised by @bymepoetry - Septlinea (seven line poem with rhyme scheme: ABCDCBA). • ☆ Details: 》This is a reverse poem, you can read the poem backwards word by word, and it means differently, though not necessarily in the opposite way; and here, except for the fourth line. (That is, it goes like this - "Slaughter ruminations, ruthless... Laughter, fatal and final.") 》The fourth line is special because: a. It doesn't rhyme with any line in accordance with the Septlinea. b. It is a true palindrome (the individual letters read the same forwards and backwards). 》This is what I like to call a Surrealistic Poem, which I'm a bit partial to. I rarely ever post them because it takes explaining. It's a bit convoluted, almost meaningless to anybody else but me, serving as a bridge between my conscious and my unconscious. ▪︎ Reading forwards: . Theme: Method in Madness┃Description: Imagery, depicting a last ditch attempt at a failing event, old tears shed at having tried the same thing to expect something else (the 'method' is madness), a stupid thing done, the revelation leaving a person sad. His conscience is made obvious, his ruminations now ruthless, 'slaughtering'. The laughter here, is that of a desperate, 'tragic humour' quality. * * * Reading backwards: . Theme: Madness made Method┃Description: When you viciously slaughter conscious thought, and fuel a cunning conscience instead, sadness is turned into rage, since the madness is made the method, in this case. Tears run dry, & this time, the laughter takes on a hysterical quality. . HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, @bohemian_rao!! ♥️ ▪︎ I know it doesn't say 'birthday' anywhere in the poem (haha, winks) but papers symbolise our friendship, and I thought it would be a nice way to wish you a happy birthday using that very symbol, don't you think? Here are the events in order (because I'm that annoying list-making-type person): 1. Beginning of 8th grade - We got stuck sitting together because I was talking too much, and had to change places as punishment. We both hated making pointless notes + you used to read novels under the desk + metal music = friends! 2. End of 8th grade - We got to sit together in the final exam because I was that 'extra roll number' that had to be seated. (LOL) 3. The 9th grade - You would stand behind me during assembly, and we would sing "A Place For My Head" by Linkin Park at lunch period, out of print outs I took. 4. The 10th grade - You stayed with me in class to help me finish up math crafts (which, as usual, I was submitting late) during free period while others were having fun. . Paper, paper, paper - see? And what I consider, the highlights of our friendship. • We had so much fun in high school (I don't think I could list it all in the caption, haha), and I'm so glad to have known you as my best friend! OSIRIA ROSE 🌹 ▪︎ Thoughts: Now, why I would want to be a "man-made" flower, one could wonder. A fake. Well, the way I see it, we are all "man-made" aren't we? We were born because we were wanted. Two people in this entire planet (that's billions of people, by the way) came together to make a person, you. Of all the genomic combinations - you. And I find that very fortunate, a miracle. So, once more - why not a man made flower? After all, beauty and quality take time. Perfection is achieved with careful deliberation, of honing one's craft. I think it's the pinnacle of beauty, that a flower is crafted, carefully made. It is true, Osiria Rose takes high maintenance, and again I think, the things that truly matter in this world require much effort. INNOCENCE ▪︎ Thoughts: This was prompted by a conversation with my favourite close-to-my-age uncle, and of our near escape of the social media phenomenon! We talked about my childhood and how much simpler things used to be back then, how... sunny. My uncle and I used to spend time in a remote little town (it looked something like a greeting card with large dashes of green)! My parents used to let me explore the place and I would spend my summer mornings with my uncle and his brothers, and with the cats; cows, too! I like to call it "the decade of nostalgia". I should think that if I lived like that right now, I'd be bored out of my mind. How a hyper-active kid like me ever survived the 90's is beyond me. Life was... slow. Summer holidays were all about extra curriculars, cycling all morning, swimming classes, reading comic books, making crafts, being invited to my neighbours' for a quick lemonade, sweets, and just... being. Existing. Living. I would lie down quietly on the sofa staring at the ceiling, oblivious to heat and sweat, and time would crawl by. There was no need to 'get things done', no apps, and even the TV was just to watch my 'favourite cartoons' and nothing more. If you had told me that much of my life would later revolve around electronics, I'd laugh in disbelief. My sibling's gen. rolls their eyes when I start talking like this but - people were kinder, warmer.. people used to care. Perhaps because there was time to pay attention?
