Hush money trial continues. Donny held in contempt for the tenth time. The fine for each charge is a thousand dollars. Laughable. The judge doesn't want to jail him. Trump would turn it into yet more martyrdom stories.

Lunch with Wallly. We talk about the pension. (Wally is 90.) We both received quite detailed letters regarding the pension. It is said that our 802 pension will bottom out in 2035. This is not great news but one thinks that neither of us will be around when it goes belly up.

It is rumored that Social Security will take a big cut at about the same time. Not good news.

BIG excitement under my window. A pro-Palestian rally. Drum-beating, chanting, etc. These kids really going at it. Chanting about genocide. A huge sign: Abigail sends kids to jail. (Who is Abigail?) They really go at it. For an hour or so, before a final whoop and moving on. Their drumming sound immediately replaced by the sound of pneumatic drills. (They're digging up the street, again. It is something of a routine.) A strange beginning of the day. (Local color.)

False alarm. The drumming chanting picks up again. Perhaps they are targeting someone from Columbia? Or, Fordham? (I don't know [see above] who Abigail is. But she might live across the street from me.)

It is rumored that Stormy Daniels will show up today at the hush money trail. The list of those who appear is kept quiet, to prevent their receiving threats. (Real Mob stuff.)

Later: Stormy Daniels takes stand. As someone puts it, an R-rated testimony. Here's one example: At Tahoe golf tournamet, where they met up, Stormy's porno company was one of the sponsors. Mercado de cambio

El peso inicia la sesión con una depreciación de 0.16% y cotizando alrededor de 18.61 pesos por dólar, con el tipo de cambio tocando un mínimo de 18.5387 y un máximo de 18.6247 pesos por dólar. Lo anterior se debe a que el dólar se fortalece 0.16%, tras la publicación de la inflación al productor en Estados Unidos que se ubicó por arriba de las expectativas, fortaleciendo expectativa de que la Reserva Federal podría seguir subiendo la tasa de interés en los próximos meses.

En Estados Unidos se publicó que la inflación al productor de enero se ubicó en 6.0% anual, disminuyendo por séptimo mes consecutivo desde junio (11.2%). El dato de enero se ubicó por encima de las expectativas de 5.4%, pero es el nivel más bajo desde marzo del 2021 cuando se ubicó en 4.1%. A tasa mensual, la inflación al productor se ubicó en 0.7% y es la tasa mensual más alta desde junio del 2022. La inflación al productor de bienes sin alimentos, energéticos y servicios de comercio, similar a lo conocido como inflación subyacente, se ubicó en 4.5% anual, disminuyendo desde 7.1% en marzo del 2022.

Por otro lado, se publicaron los inicios de vivienda de enero, mostrando una contracción mensual de 4.5%, hilando cinco meses con caídas. Por su parte, los permisos de construcción en enero mostraron un ligero incremento de 0.1%, luego de tres meses de caídas. Los datos de enero muestran que el sector de la construcción en Estados Unidos continúa deteriorándose y que los proyectos inmobiliarios se están frenando por las altas tasas de interés.

También se publicaron las solicitudes de apoyo por desempleo de la semana previa, que mostraron una disminución de 1,000 solicitudes, ubicándose en 194 mil. Aunque la disminución es moderada, es consistente con un mercado laboral fuerte en Estados Unidos.

En la canasta amplia de principales cruces, las divisas más depreciadas hoy son: el peso colombiano con 1.15%, el florín húngaro con 1.09%, el rand sudafricano con 0.88%, el real brasileño con 0.76% y el shekel israelí con 0.65%. Las únicas divisas que ganan terreno esta mañana son la rupia de Indonesia con 0.31%, la rupia india con 0.10% y el dólar taiwanés con 0.10%.

En cuanto a noticias relevantes, se dio a conocer que el pasado 14 de febrero, 13 senadores estadounidenses de ambos partidos firmaron una carta que fue enviada a Gina Raimondo, secretaria de comercio y a Katherine Tai, representante comercial, en la que se pide tomar medidas ante el incremento insostenible de las importaciones de acero mexicano. En la carta mencionan que, en mayo del 2019, la administración de Trump eliminó el arancel del 25% a las importaciones de acero (de México a Estados Unidos), como parte de un acuerdo que estipulaba que, si el volumen de importaciones se incrementaba por arriba de niveles históricos, la parte importadora (en este caso Estados Unidos) podría imponer impuestos del 25% sobre el producto específico en el que se haya experimentado ese incremento. Los senadores argumentan que las importaciones de México a Estados Unidos, de hierro y acero, han crecido 73% desde la referencia previa al acuerdo de eliminación de aranceles y que, en específico, las importaciones de conductos de acero que llegan a Estados Unidos han crecido 577%, contribuyendo con la pérdida de más de 200 empleos relacionados a la industria del acero en California y al cierre de una fábrica de producción de conductos de acero. Por lo anterior, piden que la administración de Biden comience consultas de forma inmediata y la aplicación de aranceles en caso de ser necesario. Esto puede ser presión como consecuencia del tema del maíz y del sector eléctrico. México no se está comportando como aliado comercial de Estados Unidos y la consecuencia es presión para imponer aranceles a las importaciones provenientes de México. Con esto, la oportunidad del friendshoring se pone en riesgo.

Durante la sesión, se espera que el tipo de cambio cotice entre 18.55 y 18.70 pesos por dólar.

Mercado de Dinero y Deuda

En Estados Unidos, la tasa de las notas del Tesoro a 10 años inicia sin cambios en 3.81%. En México, la tasa de los bonos M a 10 años muestra un incremento de 1.9 puntos base, ubicándose en 9.01%.

Para cubrirse de una depreciación del peso más allá de 19.50 pesos por dólar, una opción de compra (call), con una fecha de ejercicio dentro de 1 mes tiene una prima del 0.76% y representa el derecho mas no la obligación a comprar dólares en el nivel antes mencionado.

Por otro lado, el forward interbancario a la venta se encuentra en 18.6828 a 1 mes, 19.2214 a 6 meses y 19.8769 pesos por dólar a un año.
