"I know ai art is bad but I'm going to do it anyway fuck real artists"
Okay idk if you’re just telling me this statement or if you’re claiming that I said it because you put it in quotes?
But yeah, AI art is problematic and it can very much harm real artists whenever people profit off of it by claiming it’s original work that they themselves made, or when it’s used in place of real artists in a professional setting. However I do not see much genuine harm coming from casually using generators in a lighthearted way that’s just for fun. I’m not claiming that I made any of the AI art things I’ve generated, and I’m not trying to make money off them or anything
I entirely support the rights of artists, I am an artist myself, but I also don’t see how casually generating a few AI things for funsies is all that detrimental to artists either lol
Sorry but this comment is giving

I just saw the Secret Conditional Dialogue at the true ending of Void Stranger, some massive spoiler thoughts behind the read more:
So, if you have 1024 Karma / Justice at the fusion segment at the end of DIS, (which is AN INSANE AMOUNT. NO ONE SHOULD EVER DO THAT. DON'T GRIND FOR IT. JESUS CHRIST,) there's some special dialogue based on if you're playing as Lillie or Gray. And I honestly find this dialogue really really compelling.
Lillie, the whole time, is the exact opposite of everything every character is. Every other character in Void Stranger is desperate, trying to achieve a dream that they know they cannot reach, but they need to try anyway. "We are without hope, and yet we live in longing." Yet to contrast that, Lillie herself is without any strong conviction. She turns into an Egg at the end of her playthrough, she explicitly was not in the Void by choice, she's just another lost soul with no objective.
So I find it compelling that Gray's line about light becoming endless mirrors Cif's dialogue during her bossfight to such a strong degree. Add's dream was, we can extrapolate, to become human, a goal that they tried to accomplish when creating Cif - creating an artificial Manusya capable of Enlightenment. Cif, however, couldn't understand the idea of a dream or of striving for something greater. Cif was without dreams, and the desire to understand why someone would desire became her truest desire. They both dream of reaching beyond the bounds of their demon-ity, and achieving something greater, achieving something human. But in the end, Cif dies as a maggot, and Gray's light fades out.
But Lillie... doesn't get such a sad ending. She doesn't have a desire, going in. She just wants to be here, in this moment, because she loves her mothers. She doesn't have to live without achieving her dream, because she didn't have a dream to begin with. She's happy to live in this moment, to be with the people she loves one last time. But she dies, conscripted into someone else's war, never to spend the time with her mother she could have had in another timeline where Add didn't play their hand.
It's compelling in how Void Stranger plays with the themes of buddhism and desire that Zeroranger establishes, but plays with them much more purposefully and intentionally in this finale. Because I think all these endings are tragic. Those with a desire are destined to fail, but those without cast aside their humanity and become an inert object. It very much feels like Void Stranger is a game about the failure of "desire is the root of suffering." To lack desire and passion is to strive for nothing, to dream of nothing but the past's regrets. But to only look to the future is to reach for the stars, dreaming of an endless light that can only ever fade.
...But... I'd much rather look to the stars, anyway. I would much rather try to make my voice heard than not. Because... when I was asked if I could hear them... I felt... a desire to reply in kind.

Timothy Olyphant, 55, is an actor who starred in Deadwood, Live Free or Die Hard, and Justified. He will star in the FX miniseries Justified: City Primeval this fall and currently co-stars in the Max miniseries Full Circle. He spoke with Marc Myers before the actors strike.
TIMOTHY:
You couldn’t get me out of the pool when I was a kid. We lived next door to a swim and racket club in Modesto, Calif.
I began regular swim practice at age 6. My older brother, Andy, took to tennis, which probably helped us get along. We were competitive. Our younger brother, Matt, did a little bit of everything and eventually became a water-polo player.
I was born in Hawaii, but we moved to Modesto when I was 3. My dad, Bevan, worked for Del Monte and left to work at E&J Gallo Winery soon after we relocated to California. He started in bottling and worked his way up to vice president of production.
My mom, Katherine, was a full-time mom. She was the nurturing type. Whether I won or lost, she’d always talk about how well I competed or how beautiful a swimmer I was, never about whether I won or not. She’s very sweet and encouraging.
Just as I was starting high school, my parents divorced. After they split up, we quickly figured out who was responsible for what. For example, our dad didn’t really know how to do laundry or cook. If we were going over to his place, we’d probably be eating out.
When you’re young, any time your foundation gets rocked, it sets you back a bit. I’d been a good student when my parents were together, but there definitely was a dip after the divorce. I kind of saw what I could get away with and wound up just an okay student.
I wasn’t in school plays. I’m not sure I saw that side of me yet. Instead, I was at swim practice and hanging with my buddies. I also liked to draw a lot, which I suppose is how I expressed myself.
I was a solid swimmer in the Central Valley. I set a CIF SAC-Joaquin Section Record and wound up with an All America Swimming Certificate. By my senior year, I realized swimming was my ticket out of town and certainly the only way I’d get into a great university.
I worked hard. After USC saw the times I was posting, they called to recruit me for the team. When I flew out to USC on my recruit trip, I met with the dean of the architecture school. He said there was no way I could manage both the swim team’s practice schedule and the rigors of the architectural program.
I asked him about the art gallery downstairs. He said it was part of the fine-arts department. I didn’t even know you could get a degree in that. I met with the fine-arts dean and asked if I could be on the swim team. He said we’d work it out.
Majoring in fine arts for me was like winning the lottery. In high school, I’d get in trouble for drawing when I was supposed to be doing schoolwork. Now, in college, drawing was my schoolwork.
After my senior year, I left USC several electives shy of a degree and didn’t finish until the pandemic. But before I left, I met some drama majors who got me thinking about acting.
By then, my college girlfriend, Alexis, and I had married. We moved to Seal Beach, south of Los Angeles, where I coached swimming. To fulfill some of my electives I took an acting 101 class at UC Irvine. I had a ball. It was a language I understood immediately.
I read Stanislavsky’s and Sandy Meisner’s books on acting. I realized that it wasn’t a frivolous pursuit but a craft on par with how artists I admired approached painting and sculpture. I told Alexis I was thinking about pursuing acting rather than a master’s in fine art. She said, “Tim, just do something. Just pick one thing and do that.”
The guy who taught the intro class was a graduate student who recommended I study with Bill Esper at the Esper Studio in New York. Fortunately, Alexis’s dad lived there and let us move into his place.
My career has been many little steps—a lot of one step forward, two steps back. I’m not sure if there was any one role that really changed things, but landing the lead in “Justified,” in 2010, certainly helped things along.
Today, Alexis and I live in Los Angeles and have three grown kids. We moved in 15 years ago and love the house and neighborhood. I still draw and swim.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. I make steel-cut oatmeal in my rice cooker, which has a porridge setting. When I come home from swimming and have my oatmeal, I feel like I’m 8 again. And you know what? That feels pretty good.
—————
Timothy’s Digs:
Full Circle? I play Derek in the miniseries about a kidnapping gone awry and the family secrets exposed.
Blissful space? Sitting in a blue chair in the kitchen having coffee with my wife.
Cool buy? A painting by an artist I’ve admired for at least a decade or so.
Tennis? I play with my brother and oldest daughter. The fact that they play with me means the world.
Youngest daughter? Vivian. She’s an actress in the coming season of Justified: City Primeval.

There are so many people and causes that need legal help and the ACLU is helping this freak?
By Genevieve Gluck September 18, 2024
The ACLU has successfully fought to have a transgender baby killer be given taxpayer-funded “gender affirming” surgeries. Yesterday, the United States District Court of Indiana ruled that Autumn Cordellioné, born Jonathan C. Richardson, had been subjected to “cruel and unusual punishment” by being denied the various plastic surgeries he had demanded.
Richardson is currently serving a 55-year sentence for the murder of his 11-month-old stepdaughter. As previously reported by Reduxx, Richardson had been left to care for the child while her mother was at work. That night, he was visited by friends who observed he was “acting strangely” and refused to invite them in the house as he normally would.
Despite claiming the little girl was sleeping, Richardson had loud music playing in the home, and his guests noted that he appeared to have a fresh, bleeding tattoo of the child’s name carved into his arm. Shortly after his friends left, Richardson went to a neighbor’s home and asked them to call 911, claiming the child was unresponsive. The baby would later die at the hospital, with the cause of death determined to be asphyxiation by manual strangulation.
Richardson was booked awaiting a court hearing, and would later tell a prison official “all I know is I killed the little fucking bitch.” The following year, he was found guilty and sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Tumblr media
In 2020, while incarcerated at the The Correctional Industrial Facility (CIF) in Madison, Richardson began identifying as transgender and taking estradiol, a synthetic estrogen, and anti-androgen spironolactone. Two years later, Richardson lodged a sexual harassment complaint claiming that he had been raped by his cellmate in 2005, and that he stabbed the inmate in retaliation.
Despite the brutal nature of his crime, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Indiana took up his case and launched a human rights lawsuit against the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC).
In the suit, which was filed in August of 2023, ACLU lawyers refer to Richardson as an “adult transgender female prisoner confined in a male institution,” and complains that “the total ban on gender-affirming surgery violates [his] right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment.”
The suit was intended to challenge a recently-adopted policy stipulating that the IDOC cannot provide transgender surgeries to inmates. House Bill 1569, which took effect in July of 2023, bans the spending of state or federal dollars on sexual reassignment surgery for inmates. The bill, the ACLU argues, “mandates deliberate indifference to a serious medical need and therefore violates the Eighth Amendment.”
Among a list of demands prepared by Richardson and presented as evidence in court was a document titled “Surgeries to Reach My Ideal Self.” The first item on the list, the court heard, was a “vagina,” followed by: breast implants, a brow lift, a brow reduction, a tummy tuck, gluteal implants (BBL), a uterus transplant, hair removal, and wigs.
However, during court proceedings Richardson stated that he had amended his demands to two surgeries, an orchiectomy and a penile inversion.
In addition to identifying as transgender, Richardson identifies as “Muslim,” and is currently engaged in a separate lawsuit against his prison’s chaplain for being denied a hijab.
During his deposition, Richardson told the legal counsel for the IDOC, Alex Carlisle, that in 2018, he had been informed about gender identity by another male inmate at CIF who went by the name of “Pearl.” According to Richardson, Pearl had brought in pamphlets from California state prisons that explained the concept of “gender identity” and introduced to him, for the first time, the idea of taking feminizing hormones.
“I always knew I was a girl, didn’t know that term applied. Because until I talked to Pearl I didn’t even really know transgender was the name for it. I was hearing at the time that it was transsexualism and that didn’t seem to fit me because it was apparently people that like to wear girl clothes to have sex,” Richardson said in his deposition.
However, Richardson also stated that while briefly married to the mother of the infant he murdered, he had been working in an “adult bookstore” that sold pornographic videos. While employed as a janitor, Richardson would have sex with various male customers while pretending to be a “girl.”
Richardson further testified that he had taken the feminine name “Autumn” after his high school girlfriend, and said that he used to steal his sister’s clothing and his mother’s makeup as a youth. “When I put on the clothes, I could for a second realize the girl inside,” he said.
“I felt I was only a woman when a man used me,” Richardson remarked. “It was the only acceptable time to be a woman so it brought me a certain amount of satisfaction that I was pleasuring a man like a woman would and I got to express who I was.”
But the mother of the baby girl Richardson strangled to death opposed his legal bid to obtain surgery. Linda Thomas submitted a brief statement expressing her concern that his identity may be concealed from her when he is released from prison.
“On the day he murdered my child, I personally observed Plaintiff with a fresh bleeding tattoo of my child’s name on his arm while I was at the hospital that evening,” Thomas said. “I live in fear for myself and my children of the day [Richardson] is released from prison, which largely increases at the thought that [his] identity may be concealed upon release.”
ACLU attorneys under the leadership of Kenneth Falk attempted to have Thomas’ testimony dismissed as court evidence on the basis that “Ms. Cordellioné objected to the relevance of this declaration.”
During court proceedings, Kate Meltzer, a legal representative for the Office of the Attorney General, emphasized an issue of “timeliness” related to Richardson’s attempts to secure an early release.
On January 4th, Richardson had lodged a pro se request seeking a reduction of his sentence. According to Meltzer, Richardson’s request claimed that the “circumstances that resulted in the crime are no longer present,” as the motivation for the murder of the young girl was “tied to [his] transgender identity and [his] gender dysphoria.”
The court also heard testimony from Stephen B. Levine, a psychiatrist who specializes in sexual dysfunction and transsexualism, who founded the Case Western Reserve Gender Identity Clinic in Cleveland during the 1970’s. Levine was Chair of the fifth edition of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s (WPATH) Standards of Care in 1998. He also served on the American Psychiatric Association DSM-IV Subcommittee on Gender Identity Disorders.
In March of this year, while the case was ongoing, Levine emailed the Attorney General’s counsel Alexander Carlisle pleading with him to empathize with Richardson. According to Dr. Levine, Richardson’s condition “is a product of the need to find coherence, consistency, and stability”. The “countless traumas” experienced by Richardson, the gender clinician said, “began with her birth (actually with her pregnancy)”, indicating his belief that a transgender identity develops in utero.
As noted in court documents, in recent years Dr. Levine derived between 40% to 50% of his income from serving as an expert witness in litigation regarding the treatment of patients with “gender dysphoria”.
Tumblr media
The ruling issued by Judge Richard Young on September 17 has far-reaching implications and sets a precedent for further surgeries and hormones to be doled out at taxpayers’ expense. The verdict declares that the statute added to Indiana’s legal code in 2023 barring the DOC from facilitating “medically necessary gender-affirming” surgeries for inmates qualifies as “sex discrimination.”
In a statement on Richardson’s legal win, ACLU of Indiana Legal Director Kenneth Falk said: “Today marks a significant victory for transgender individuals in Indiana’s prisons. Denying evidence-based medical care to incarcerated people simply because they are transgender is unconstitutional. We are pleased that the Court agreed.”
The ACLU has pursued multiple lawsuits in several states against the US prison authorities on behalf of men convicted of horrific crimes. As revealed by Reduxx, a 2019 ACLU lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Corrections which required the state to allow violent male inmates to self-identify into the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women was lodged on behalf of a self-admitted diaper fetishist and convicted terrorist.
Last year, the ACLU of Florida criticized officials for not providing “gender-affirming care” to a convicted rapist and murderer prior to his execution. Duane Owen had been handed a death sentence after brutally murdering a 38-year-old mother and a 14-year-old girl in 1984. Owen claimed that he sexually assaulted women as part of a ritual to harvest their hormones, and that he was a transsexual who carried out the sexual violence to “turn himself into a female.”

Hello!! I’m Cif, and I’m a self taught hobbyist artist who likes to draw cute critters and character with pointy ears! For more info check under the cut 💟
Tumblr media
Hi again! Thanks for clicking to read more lol
Anyhow, here are the main things a wanna cover:
• If you’ve followed me for a while/look at my old posts you might see me going my a different name. I didn’t really Change my name exactly, I just realized that going by a screen name might be a bit wiser than using my actual IRL name. That other name isn’t inaccurate, I’m just trying to rebrand a little I guess lol
• I am predominantly a hobbyist artist but I am not opposed to doing commissions if someone really wants one! I don’t prefer taking them often to be completely honest because I find them a bit intimidating, but I am totally open to doing some on occasion! Feel free to message me and we can discuss commission details if you’re interested!
• Please do not trace, reuse, sell, distribute, or do anything similar to that with my art! I can condone tracing if it is done privately for learning purposes, or if it's credited explicitly and permission to do so is given by me, but those are the only exceptions! Feel free to use them as profile pictures and banners though as long as credit is given in your desc or somewhere like that!
• I may draw some very much non-sexual nudity on the rare occasion, but I do not draw any actually explicit art. However I am an adult and some of my art may contain adult themes, so while it isn't necessarily a hard requirement, I do prefer that anyone who follows me is over 18! You absolutely must be 18 or older to commission me though!
• Feel free to message me or send asks anytime! I'm insanely awkward but I'll do my best lol
• Please check my DNI banner below before interacting, and plz just be polite and chill lol
Thanks for stopping by!

Good news, bad news, boring, interesting kind of day.
Bad: Flare up started again, off for three-ish days of swollen glands, fevers and tiny sores hurting like they're on fire - really hoping it's over soon. I got up, took the special meds and 'sulked'/moped/grinched for a while then caught up on photo editing. This time I've promised to not reinstall paintshop so I have to learn the gimp/photopea/ps portable menus instead.
Then went back to sleep once my body calmed down a bit with the over reaction.
Felt horrid when I woke but had to walk the dogs and didn't feel like doing one for each dog when I'm wobbly. Mum was available to meet and walk before the sun could get above the roofs so that was lovely.
She turns 65 tomorrow. She's been a warrior of a mum. With a few blindspots. We didn't really hash out our differences and actually become friends until starting when she was 50. She's an incredible woman. We're as similar as we are different so there are things we barely have to communicate and others take a lot of delicacy and working out exactly what we both mean and if there's any common ground. But I'm really lucky to have had a good mother AND a good friend.
Random current event: she's been a redditor for a few months so I asked how she's been holding up. She moved back to the indepth literary reference and analysis of discworld in podcasts and articles since the sub closed, she tried Discord and found it boring. *shrug*
I'm kind of hoping the internet will fracture with social media issues and craft/fandom/whatever groups will band together to create or repopulate forums again. Discworld community wasn't quite a great fit with redditor community (downvotes apparently made it newbie unfriendly)
--------------
Chose 4 dolls who's hair wasn't too felted (very tangled but not quite felt masses) from the bundle to cif wash, condition and detangle using the hair iron and comb. Because there was no point degluing the inside if the outside (hair) isn’t salvageable. They are savable, it's not obvious until you clean and detangle a small strand but it's worth doing that initial check so not to waste your time. Now I've got 4 heads in cups hanging out in the bathroom to deglue the inside. 5 felty heads still quarantined in baggies.
Accidentally melted torelei to my desk while using an abs melt fluid on her knees to see if damage could be repaired. What a mess. I should have used heat instead. It sanded out but I panicked slightly as how shortsighted that was.
Then most of the day stuck in bed.
Fixed my white noise fan and that's a very big deal. I had to replace a part (thick metal pin - pulled out of a wallhook) and had bought compressed air for the job. Finally no more sleeping in earplugs.
Groceries ordered online, meds for the week done.
--------------
The reason I didn't address 'hyperempathy' yesterday is that I don't use that word for myself and haven't really found where it fits between stronger focus on others than myself, eggshell parent and a form of identification bordering on ocd like intrusive thoughts in it's vividness. Hyperempathy seems to vague, doesn't address how crippling it is and has implications about compassion I find a little distasteful so I've been using 'empathy disorder' to talk about my bad stuff instead. I reacted badly to the stupid sub because i'm not coping with regular asylum seeker deaths and had to word filter it all a while back.
—----------
Dolls and dog posts maybe tomorrow? 💖💖💖

Choosing the right financial advisor in France

Choosing the right financial advisor in France
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re living in France, thinking about moving to France or you own a property in France, it’s important to review your finances. As part of this process, you may need the help of a financial advisor. As an ex-pat or non-French national, the French tax and financial sector can seem daunting and although there are many financial advisors and companies offering advice to people living in France, how do you pick the right financial advisor for you? We asked financial advisor Helen Booth at deVere France to explain why it’s important to know the facts when choosing the right financial advisor in France, and how they can really help you to live a more comfortable life in France. Why do I need a financial advisor? You need to ensure your finances are organised in a way that is tax efficient and tax compliant, but you should also review your estate planning, investment strategies and pensions. This will not only ensure that your money works hard for you allowing you to enjoy your life in France, but it will also bring you peace of mind that your future is financially secure and that any loved ones will be provided for in the way you want after you’ve gone. Understanding French tax law and finance regulations At the outset, it’s important to bear in mind that the French tax regime and financial services are very different to the those in the UK. This can affect your income tax liability as well as any potential Capital Gains Tax or Inheritance Tax liability. France also has different opportunities for tax efficient investments and savings, and if you’re retired or nearing retirement, you may need to navigate the most efficient way to draw an English pension in France. And all of this is important when it comes to choosing your financial advisor. Check your financial advisor is properly qualified and regulated Since Brexit, UK qualified financial advisors who live in and are regulated in the UK, are not authorised to provide you with ongoing advice about your French finances. This means you will need to work with a financial advisor who is regulated and qualified under the French regime. The generic term for financial advisor in France is called a Conseil en Gestion de Patrimoine. A CIF will normally have to be affiliated to a professional body such as one of the four AMF-approved associations: La Compagnie CIF, CNCGP, CNCEF Patrimoine, or ANACOFI CIF. For example, deVere are registered with ANACOFI-CIF (National Association of Financial Advisors), and they are also registered with the Organisation for the Registration of Assurance Intermediaries (ORIAS). Finally, ideally your financial advisor should also be EFA Certificated, or European Financial Advisor Certificated. EFA is one of the quality standards in the financial advisory industry. Only advisors currently holding the Dip PFS (Diploma in Financial Planning) designation can also have the EFA designation. You can check the register of financial advisors in France (which you’ll find at: www.orias.fr) to see whether someone is registered, although bear in mind, this is just a register, not a regulator. You can also check their website which should have full details of their qualifications and status. Insurance A regulated financial advisor has to have insurance as part of their compliance. Nonetheless, you should check that they are insured and check the scope of their insurance. Professional liability insurance provides you with protection in the event that your advisors make errors, omissions, or are negligent. Independence and expertise Your French bank may be willing to offer you financial advice, however, they will be recommending services and financial products provided by them and they are not independent. An independent financial advisor will look at the financial market as a whole and therefore can recommend the best products or solutions for your circumstances rather than the best ones that a bank has on offer. This can make a big difference. Next, check the size of your financial advisor’s team. A larger team may mean a larger pool of expertise and experience such as specialist knowledge in tax, pensions and succession planning. A larger firm may also have greater purchasing power when it comes to a financial product they are recommending for you and a higher level of back-end support. All of this makes a difference not just to your finances but to the level of customer service you receive. What are they like and how do they operate? Financial services and advice should be very personal. Your circumstances are unique, and you will need financial advice and solutions that are geared to you and what you want and need. So how does this help you choose the right financial advisor? Start by making sure they speak your language – literally. You want an advisor who can speak English. Check their website for anything that indicates that they make customer service a priority. Have they won any awards? How long have they been around? Are there any testimonials either on their website or elsewhere online? What kind of person are they and you can you see yourself building a good relationship with them and working with them long term? If you need to call them, will you be dealing with them personally, or will you find yourself endlessly on hold or speaking to someone you’ve never met and doesn’t know you? Finally, ask what their process is. This is absolutely critical. You want someone who takes time to get to know you, and to understand your short- and long-term financial goals and needs, as well as your risk profile, so that they can develop a financial strategy for you. Make sure they offer regular reviews. Life has a habit of throwing curve balls at you, and it is important that you regularly review your financial plans, needs and goals to ensure they are still on track or so that you can adjust your finances and financial planning as necessary. Your finances are such a significant part of your life, it is worth taking the time to ensure you entrust your future with the right financial advisor for you. Contact Helen Booth at deVere France for a free, no-obligation consultation at [email protected] deVere is one of the world’s leading independent financial advisories; deVere France provides trusted, independent financial advice to expatriates and international investors based in France: deVere-france.fr Please note, the above is for educational purposes only and does not constitute advice. Crawford Coach Connection

High school football coach: Get kids to degrees
After 130 wins, Morse High School football coach and athletic director Tracy McNair has made an impact in the San Diego sports world.
But what you can’t put a number on is the sheer amount of lives he has changed along the way. Brandon Stone sat down with the longtime southeast San Diego resident to learn more about the journey that made the man.
Always charting the course is the mark of a coach — but in Tracy McNair’s world, so much more.
“Right now, I think more than anything else, [my role] is mentor, father, coach, teacher, athletic administrator, babysitter, car driver,” McNair said. “I probably can’t put it on a resume, but what you see is what you get.”
“Sitting here in this classroom brings back memories of times when I didn’t have that teacher,” McNair continued. “There were times in class where the teacher told me, ‘You won’t make it to see 21.’ But now I’m 52.”
And still going strong running Morse High, the model of hard work was set long ago through family.
“Me being a young kid, not understanding all of the stuff that my grandma went through,” McNair said. “She only had one hand that only had two fingers on it. When she was a minor, she was pushed into a fire as she was the maid of a family. And at that time, her fingers melted together. She’d tell us, through all she did with that one hand, that hard work pays off. Perseverance will always pay off.”
He took that lesson first to Crawford High School, then back to the school he graduated from — taking the baton from his legendary head coach, a five-time CIF champion.
“A lot of people want to say they want to go to the NFL. That was never my focus,” McNair said. “My focus was I wanted to be just like [John Shacklett]. I wanted to be at Morse. I wanted to be a head coach. I wanted to be an athletic director. I wanted to affect kids’ lives and affect change within my own community.”
Stone asked McNair how much it changes the perspective to be able to learn from someone that looks like them and understands what they went through.
“I think the biggest attribute of all that is I went to Morse,” McNair said. “I can see these families and these kids on a day-to-day basis walking through their own community. I know their parents. I know their grandparents.”
A blessing paid back in full in 2018, when three old teammates — David Dunn at Lincoln, Charles James at San Diego and Coach McNair — made that same CIF history.
“One of the most wonderful things I’ve ever seen in my life is to have three Morse Tigers go to CIF at the same time. And then all of us win CIF,” McNair said.
The Morse name continues to be strong to this day. When San Diego State University hired their new coach, Sean Lewis, he credited a Morse alum, Dino Babers, as a mentor to him as he was learning the college game. Lewis was an assistant to Babers at three different stops in the past decade.
“So what is my job as a coach? Get kids to degrees,” McNair said. “Because 20 years from now, ain’t nobody gonna care who won the CIF, except for us as adults. Those kids want to see those degrees. Those parents want to see those degrees.” *Reposted article from Fox 5 by Brandon Stone on February 3, 2024

Athena Ryan, from Sonoma Academy, and Lorelei Barrett of Sherman Oaks Buckley, (both transgender) opted not to participate in the scheduled girl’s 1,600-meter run at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif.” And last week I posted a story about the women boycotting because men were allowed to participate in the women’s division. The only way both sides can be happy is to have the mens division be open and the women division be just for women. That way men taking hormones and women taking testosterone can still compete…..they just aren’t going to be happy with the results.
Two transgender female high school athletes were no-shows for their race at the California State preliminary Track and Field Championship on Friday — a week after they clinched a spot in the elite race.
Athena Ryan, from Sonoma Academy, and Lorelei Barrett of Sherman Oaks Buckley, opted not to participate in the scheduled girl’s 1,600-meter run at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif., according to The Los Angeles Times.
“The CIF is disappointed for two of our student-athletes and their families because due to the actions of others, they found it necessary to withdraw from the State Track and Field Championships out of concern for the student’s well being,” the California Interscholastic Federation, the governing body for high school sports in California, wrote in a statement to the outlet.
The CIF expressed that the organization “strongly denounces discriminatory or harassing behaviors” the student-athletes have been subjected to and are disappointed the runners have chosen not to compete.
Last week, Ryan and Barrett qualified to compete for a chance of winning states after placing in the top three of the girls’ 1,600-meter races at their respective sectional meets.
Ryan, a junior, finished in second place as protests formed, calling her participation in the competition unfair to the other girls.
She also came under fire after a runner who placed fourth was seen on video waving to the crowd before appearing to give a thumbs-down — a gesture taken entirely out of context, the school told The Post.
Barrett, who won third at the Southern Section Masters event last Saturday, was also subjected to similar pressure from the crowd, with a spectator allegedly yelling to “Trip her” repeatedly while she ran her 1,600-meter race, which can be heard on a video.
The Post reached out to Sonoma Academy and Sherman Oaks Buckley.
The outlet asked five local coaches of runners who were in line to compete in Friday’s 1,600-meter heat were asked they felt about transgender females being allegeable.
Three coaches said they would support any athlete who shows up to compete, regardless of how they identify.
The two other coaches shared that they believed transgender girls should run in their own separate races, the outlet reported.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Adults have created this problem,” said Oaks Christian coach Wesley Smith. “Adults need to fix this problem.”
The California Interscholastic Federation enacted its “Gender Identity Participation” rules in 2013, stating, “All students should have the opportunity to participate in CIF athletics and/or activities in a manner that is consistent with their gender identity.”
“All of our athletes, all the eligible athletes, are afforded the opportunity to compete with the gender they feel most comfortable with,” Brian Seymour, the CIF’s associate executive director, told The Los Angeles Times.
College swimming star Riley Gaines slammed the two runners for not competing saying,: “Did they realize they clearly possess an unfair advantage?”
Tumblr media
The University of Kentucky swimmer has gained notoriety for vocalizing her displeasure with transgender females competing in female biological sports since facing Penn swimmer Lia Thomas — a transgender female.
Gaines tied with Thomas for fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle NCAA championships in March and has loudly criticized Thomas since then.
“Women are brave people, but it shouldn’t take bravery to demand equal treatment. And if our leaders cannot deliver fairness to sports and athletics, then we need different leaders. Our next generation of girls deserves to see themselves as champions – not “oppressors” – and we all deserve a clear voice in this debate,” Gaines wrote in an op-ed for The Post.

Ulquiorra Cifer didn't think about Tousen much at all until he was out on the roof of Las Noches, practicing his second release, and meets the man, sitting alone with his face pointed up at the sky, and he asks Ulquiorra the most peculiar question:
"Are there any stars tonight?"
This was a peculiar question on several fronts:
This sounded like an invitation to engage in a social conversation, a bewildering activity under the best of circumstances, but particularly-
-with the shinigami Lords, and especially Lord Tousen who kept the same social schedule as a reclusive mountain hermit and was always extremely businesslike with a disregard for levity that Ulquiorra thought was refreshingly professional, so
-to hear him ask about the presence of stars was distressing in both that Ulquiorra hoped the man wasn't about to reveal a heretofore unseen saccharine side, and-
-worse, Ulquiorra wasn't actually sure about the existential quality of stars in general.
The arrancar became aware that he was running out of the socially acceptable time frame in which to respond to an Inquiry, and in his haste to avoid causing offense to his commanding officer, slipped up and answered honestly.
"...I don't know."
Tousen frowned, confused. "... you don't know?"
"No Lo- Mr. Tousen." Ulquiorra corrected himself, remembering the myriad corrections other Arrancar received. Perhaps this would divert the flow of this interaction.
"... what's stopping you from knowing?" Tousen asked, head slowly tipping sideways, intently listening at Ulquiorra.
The Arrancar was silent for a long time, glaring up at the sky.
"Mr. Cif-?" Tousen started to ask.
"I can see several thousand points of light in the night sky whose static position indicates but does not exclusively confirm that they are very large lights and extreme distance away." He started. "Many of these lights are recognizable from one night to the next, by consistent color, position and movement."
"Well, that certainly sounds like stars." Tousen nodded. "...so what makes you unsure?"
Ulquiorra was silent again for a long time, but the shinigami waited patiently.
"...My eyes are unusual."
He then failed to elaborate.
Tousen made a small waving gesture to encourage him.
"When I first became aware as the being I am now, I could only see." Ulqiorra finally spoke. "My mask wasn't so much a mask as a cocoon that encased my entire body. I could see, and sometimes feel if something made a particularly strong impact with my body, but. If anyone ever spoke to or called for me, I would not have heard. I did not smell, I did not taste, I did not eat. I was... entirely alone, inside and out."
Tousen frowned sympathetically at him.
"It was wonderful." Ulquiorra sighed. "Everything was beautiful. Everything was clear. If I could see it, it was real. If I could not, it was not. Back then, the stars were real.
"Eventually, I came to the corpse of a giant tree, something more real than anything else had ever been and I... I tried to embrace it, this thing of such wonderfully indisputable existential nature- and it broke the mask encasing my body, and I became 'Ulquiorra' as I am now."
"So... since you became an arrancar, and your senses expanded, the stars don't seem real anymore?" Tousen tilted his head, puzzling.
"I- no. It's not the stars that have changed. It's the nature of what is and is not real." Ulquiorra muttered. "- and it wasn't breaking my mask that changed it. The nature of reality changed when I met Lord Aizen and the others and suddenly there are things that everyone acts like are real but there's no tangible or objective proof of them- like "Loyalty", or The So-Called Soul King Lord Aizen is so opposed to! They all talk about them like they're real observable things but there's nothing- Why are you laughing?"
"I'm sorry- You're so correct it's funny." Tousen apologized, trying to stifle the shaking of his shoulders.
"Why is my being right funny?" Ulquiorra grumbled, eyes narrowing.
"It's not that important. Tell me about the stars." He smiled, patting the roof beside him, indicating Ulquiorra should sit beside him.
With a resigned sigh, Ulquiorra sat down beside the Shinigami.
"Its frustrating to no end- I feel like I'm going mad sometimes when Lord Aizen goes on his monologues about the throne of heaven- I mean, he has a perfectly good chair right here, what does he want with one in another dimension?" Ulquiorra huffed.
"I'm not sure either!" Tousen bared his teeth in a way that only sort of resembled a grin. "As far as things that only sort of exist- You do know that just because something is intangible, or only exists as a social construct, that it's still real, right? For a given value of Real, at any rate."
Ulquiorra stared blankly at him. "What."
Tousen sighed deeply. "Just because a thing is only perceptible to some senses, doesn't mean it's not real. Our senses are quite limited really- only a narrow range of sounds are audible, we only have chemoreceptors for a handful of chemicals- even your eyes can only see a very narrow slice of the full spectrum of light."
Ulquiorra huffed. "I'm aware. But they're still demonstrably real- A hollow with the power of invisibility will eventually bite me. And if it doesn't, then what does it matter to me if it's real or not?"
"Perhaps you would like to know if the invisible hollow is real *before" it bites you?" Tousen asked, resting his cheek on his knuckles and listening at Ulquiorra with interest.
The Arrancar made a low rumbling noise and looked away but didn't disagree.
"The trick is that things that are not immediately perceptible can be inferred by the effect they have on the world around them." Tousen explained. "If nobody had ever told me about the moon, I might have lived in ignorance- it's not like I can hear or smell it, and it's too far to touch. But I might have deduced it's existence by the way it causes tides, and how it changes the behavior of animals with its phases."
"...Hm. Much to think about." Ulquiorra muttered, desperate to get out of this conversation, but didn't get up. They passed sometime in nearly companionable silence, Ulquiorra staring up at the stars.
"...You can't see the moon." Ulquiorra realized. "You're not effected by Aize-MPF!" Ulquiorra was suddenly tackled by Tousen, hands over the Arrancar 's mouth in an exceptionally dangerous maneuver- but something about the fear in his expression made Ulquiorra hesitant to bite his fingers off. The shinigami listened to the night around them, reiatsu unfurling like the wings of some great beast, before he slowly let go and sat back.
"-my apologies, but even discussing suigetsu is a dangerous business." Tousen sighed. "Trust me, I'd know." He laughed darkly.
"-but you'd know if someone else was under the effects of Suigetsu?" Ulquiorra demanded, sitting up and grabbing the shinigami's shoulders. "I- I know only some of us are- certainly Barragan, and I think Hallibel too- but Starrk isn't! I don't know why, but I heard Aizen telling him that he wanted Starrk to 'see me exactly as I am', whatever that means-"
"asshole." Tousen grunted, untangling himself from the Arrancar. "-not you, Aizen. You're worried he's gotten his hook- AUGH!" The shinigami yelped , falling back and clutching his shoulder.
Ulquiorra stared as Tousen struggled to sit up again, an uneasy feeling growing in him, like the hole in his chest was growing.
"I thought perhaps Aizen had left me alone so I could deliver reports to him with my eyes unaffected, but..." He watched Tousen, panting with pain. "...there's something else going on, isn't there?"
"I can't talk about it but- yes, I think I can help." Tousen nodded, starting to undo the buttons of his coat. "Have you ever seen my back before?"
"...No." Ulquiorra frowned.
"Good, good- try to imagine what you think it looks like. You don't have to say, just think about it until you have a firm concept." Tousen nodded. "Got it?"
"Yes." Ulquiorra said, bewildered, them even moreso when the shinigami turned his back to him and dropped his coat.
"Does my back look about how you expected, or different?" Tousen asked, voice strained with an emotion Ulquiorra couldn't quite identify.
"Different." Ulquiorra stared, the sickening sensation growing to almost intolerable levels at the sight of the mutilated flesh- nails pounded into Tousen's spine, characters hapazardly craved into his shoulders. "Very different."
"Then you are not under the influence of Suigetsu." Tousen sighed with relief, pulling his coat back on. "I can't talk about it but- there are hidden depths to Aizen's depravity."
"I see." Ulquiorra muttered, still not getting up. Despite having his question answered and Tousen unable to discuss it further, it somehow felt wrong to leave just yet.
Another wordless void between them, filled only with Tousen's pained panting and the incessant desert wind.
"There are many thousands of what I am now reasonably sure are stars out tonight." Said Ulquiorra and the barking noise Tousen made was somewhere between joy and agony.
"...Thank you, Ulquiorra." Tousen smiled weakly. "Thank you. You have no idea what that means to me."
"... would you like to hear the rest of the report, Sir?" Ulquiorra asked, unsure why, save for a peculiar notion that it was the correct thing to offer.
"Please?" Tousen asked, still pained.
"...there is a very large but non-discrete band of light and shadow spanning the sky from the northwest horizon to the southeast one. It is not quite directly overhead, but if it follows it's normal trajectory, it will pass over us in half an hour..."
AEIWAM Question: What do the various Espada Think of Tousen? Follow-up question, will they, the bunch of dumbasses that they are (because Aizen made them for loyalty, not thinking), declare him their unquestioned leader once Aizen, Gin and Urloquia fork off to see the cosmic taffy pull (also presuming that Barrigan winds up face down in a ditch per canon)?
Bless you for asking this, I needed something to chew on. I'm going to answer these one at a time because the post would be insanely long, and how the thought of him Before the Battle of Karakura Probably:
---
Aaroniero and Arruruerie are SURE they've met before, and that they owes the man a debt of gratitude.
It's possible, they suppose. They have consumed and absorbed the memories of so many hollows that maybe they remember the face from a hollow he killed.
At least, that's what they hope is going on.
But they have Nightmares. Not of being pursued by Shinigami but of being the Shinigami in hot pursuit. Dreams of walking through a city, surrounded by humans that adore them. Names and Faces- Rukia and her dipshit older brother, Jushiro with the nice couch they sometimes pass out on after long nights- if Jushiro's husband wasn't already there. ...Memories, of meeting each other, and falling in love. How it felt as natural to look up to her as it was to gaze at the moon. How waking up to him felt as natural as the dawn. Memories of being married by Captain Ukitake, after Tousen had done them the inexplicable favor of organizing the whole party and acquiring wedding rings. He loves organizing things for people. Ukitake had smiled. Especially weddings. I just hope it's not guilt from the one he didn't get to. His husband had frowned.
That's impossible, of course. They know who they are, how they arose from the vile muck in the shadowy pits of Hueco Mundo. They never stood in the sun one late afternoon, to marry, not with how it burns.
...and yet.
There's no harm in being polite, right? They don't mind locking Glottineria in it's scabbard with an audible click when he comes into the room, to affirm lack of hostilities. Or giving him the cup of tea Aizen gives everyone at his insufferable meetings afterwards- it's not like they can drink it! ...And if sometimes, when they've been working late in the lab studying the effects and causes of Hollowfication, when Tousen gets tired and starts to call them "Kaien" and "Miyako"-
-Well, what's the harm in answering in the voices he expects to hear?
