It's You
Tumblr media
Pairing: Marcus Moreno x f!Reader
Rating: G
Word Count: 710
Summary: Just a meet cute with super dad
Tumblr media
Traffic was the worst.
Returning from a work trip this late at night was more for your own mental health than necessity, you had to disconnect from work and escaping the hotel early was the best way to do it. But this was just plain awful, you had jumped onto a back road to avoid this exact scenario, it seemed you weren't the only one who wanted to avoid the holiday traffic on the highway.
The night air was filled with cicada and cricket song, the puff and rumble of cars and trucks, and the low cacophony of everyone's music melding into one sound. You huffed lightly behind the silver sedan in front of you, watching as a tiny hand emerged from the window to make a shadow puppet on the back of the 18 wheeler ahead and smiled.
The kid was probably even more bored than you were if they were resorting to shadow puppets.
Casually you reached out and matched her little dog face with a snake, since you wanted to avoid using both hands, and the shrill laugh of delight from ahead cut through the boredom as a larger -masculine- hand formed an even larger canine puppet that was protecting the smaller one.
In the glow of your headlights you smiled as the girl turned around in her seat to wave at you, the gesture returned outside of the window so she wasn't blinded trying to see through the lights, and you almost rejoiced when the traffic began to move. You shifted to the right to make a turn onto a different back road and noticed the silver car slowing just a hair.
As you turned off the road you glanced in time to see a man, a handsome man, wave at you along with his teenage daughter. You returned the gesture and focused back on the road, glad for the night being dark enough to hide the warmth on your face. You weren't one to call yourself desperate but the attention of a handsome man making you fluster this bad, a man with a daughter -and likely a wife- on top of it, should not have gotten you this bad.
“Ugh, I just need to get this out of my system.”
♡♡♡♡
Being set up for a blind date was not what he meant when he told Miracle Guy he wanted to be paid back for covering his patrol, the blond hero had taken Marcus’ advice and finally agreed to go to couple’s counseling to repair his struggling marriage. But this? Being set up with one of Heather's friends?
It was a damn shame but Marcus had hoped to run into someone else meandering around the city. But life wasn't some romance novel, and New York was a big state, he doubted he'd ever see that woman again.
Who was she? He could only believe she was kind, fun loving, if she decided to play -even briefly- with Missy. It had already been a week and his urge to see if his dash cam picked up that woman's license plate number had not disappeared at all.
He fiddled with the bouquet of flowers he brought with him, choosing one was tricky since he didn't want to being roses or carnations, it was a bit traditionalist but Marcus hadn't wanted to appear rude to his surprise date either. He picked mums and hoped she liked them, to avoid flowers with a romantic meaning.
The event was casual, an outdoor art exhibit, so he opted for a pair of black jeans with a gray plaid short sleeve, choosing to brush his hair back instead of slicking it to the sides like he did for work, and Marcus was glad he went for the glasses instead of contacts. A blend of super hero Moreno and causal dad Marcus.
“Sorry I'm late, I couldn't find the flats I keep in my car. Heather didn't tell me I'd be walking around.”
He turned toward his date and froze, her shy smile was tinged with embarrassment, and then her eyes widened slightly. His mouth moved before he could stop it, blurting out the first thing that came to mind, and so did she.
“It's you!”
“You're the one from the silver car!”

Crab enrichment time! I was bored, so I set up some puzzle toys for them after doing some tank maintenance, and finally set up a Wyze cam I've had for months. They have a bunch of dehydrated treats in the dog puzzle toy, and some flavored puffs, popcorn, cicada shells, and dried cod in the puzzle cubes & ball.
I put together a full video of the crabs exploring the big feeder & one of the crabs finally getting the front bone off, but it's 8 minutes long at double speed, so tumblr said no. But i included the final video that has the smarty crab pushing it all the way off!
I added a couple hibiscus blooms a few minutes ago, and then saw that they got another bone off when Hagrid moved out of the camera's way in that final pic.

Rating: Yellow Orange
Warning: this review is only comprised of **season one.** That is the first 13 episodes only!
*Natsume's Book of Friends / Natsume Yūjin-chō / Natsume Yuujinchou / 夏目友人帳 -* This beautiful anime full of love and sadness alike will take you on a hell of a fun ride and make you bawl your eyes out for characters you've just met. I went into this knowing absolutely nothing and came out with a new addition to my personal loved anime list, and I hope anyone else who checks it out loves it too!
Genres : Slice of Life, Supernatural, Mythology, Iyashikei
Type : TV Show
Ran From : a Summer release of July 8th 2008, to September 30th 2008.
Length : 13 episodes consisting of a standard 24 minutes per episode.
Intro/Outro: Lizard crawling on someone's face (they're okay with this), some very mild fast moving imagery. Outro completely safe.
Trigger Warnings : child being chased by monsters (yōkai), child neglect and abuse (not often shown, but brought up), treating children as though they're burdens foe being different, extremely wide eyes, minor explosions, closeups on eyes, dead parents, body horror (non-gore), falls from medium to large heights, fainting, child running away from home, young children finding comfort in adult strangers, live fish out of water being shown, mentions of possession, being possessed, very very small amounts of blood, alcoholism being shown in a joking way, cats being fed really shit food, fishing, themes of being trapped into servitude (main character does not use this, but a later character does seem to. The ones working for him seem to be willing, but I can't know that for sure.)
Episode specific triggers:
E1 opens with a chase scene with some shaky cam and heavy blur. Shaky cam isn't used often in this show but it does happen. Damage to shrine grounds.
E2 a character is breifly crushed under the full weight of a larger characters body under their foot. Someone has a sallow face and hollow eyes.
E3 live frog held in an animals mouth (it is unharmed), frog bouncing on someone's face.
The cat makes an incredibly tasteless joke about sexual harassment in this episode. Skip from 9:53 to 10:03 to avoid it. You lose nothing by doing so.
E4 closeups on cicadas, Being watched without knowledge, falling down stairs, trapped in a school
The cat makes an offhanded comment that's pretty gross, this time about slavery. It happens at 10:25 - 10:28.
E6 cicada closeups
E7 themes of parental death, adults beating a child with thick paper, child crying
E8 falling off a cliff
E9 very angry dogs face, scared dog noises, fan girls, imagery of a rope tied around someone's neck, being completely trapped and wrapped up in paper, a character is stabbed in the eye with a stick
E10 cut limbs, very small amounts of blood, falling off a cliff, possession
E11 very young child in a life threatening situation, blurry shaky cam, falling down a cliff, trapped in a hole, visibly and audibly nearly vomiting, feeding a cat chocolate, child crying, fear of replacement, alcohol abuse
12 frog stuck in a spider web, imagery and audio of a humanoid being eaten/chewed whole, electrocution (character is fine, slightly burnt and steaming cartoon style) high pitched bell ringing, potential implied groping? Child visibly sick (emeto safe)
13 reckless crossing of a road, tying up an animal, attempting to hit a fox with a broom, fireworks, festival episode

Year One: At Home In the Dark masterlist
warnings for series: mentions of alcohol/being drunk, mentions of violence/blood imagery (with warnings for specific chapters), mentions of anxiety and depression symptoms (with warnings for specific chapters), swearing - please do not read if you may find any of this triggering and take care of yourself.
“The proverbial saying ‘All’s fair in love and war’ expresses the idea that, like war, where any strategy is accepted, affairs of the heart are also no-holds-barred contests.”
Chapter One:
“Your mission, should you choose to accept is-“
Groans fill the room and Rebecca Baxter rolls her eyes at everyone. An amber bottle pressed to her lips as she nudges his shoulder. A silent, ‘Can you believe them? They’re absolutely no fun.’
Zachary Goode snickers into his own beer, a silent response of ‘No, you’re just overly dramatic as usual and Cam has probably had too many glasses of wine for this.’
“Alright, alright, fine.” Bex waves her hands and to look at him fully. “Truth or Dare? Clock’s ticking Goode.”
Maybe it’s the way he hasn’t felt this light in a long time - maybe ever, that they’re all together again for it too. Summer evening wind blows at his hair that’s gotten a little too long. From their spot on the porch, he can hear the hum of crickets and cicadas, smell the familiar scent of leaves that are ready to turn for Autumn in the air. He doesn’t even have shoes on, he can’t remember the last time he didn’t feel the need to be ready to go. Or it could be the way his heart does this funny thing of swelling and aching in the same beat when Cam blows hair off of her cheek, giggling like she’s eighteen again as Liz pours more wine.
Or maybe he’s just drunk.
“Truth.”
Yeah, definitely just drunk.
Tumblr media
The entire circle falls silent, cups and bottles half suspended to parted lips, laughter trails off as eyes widen. Every single one of them can hear each other’s heartbeats, the distinct ping of water from the faucet hitting ceramic inside and down the hall, and the ticking of the clock just inside the dining room.
Cammie sits up straighter, wiping at her lips. “What?”
Bex sits back against the porch column hard. Liz props up on her knees - clearly criss cross applesauce is too child’s play for what’s at stake here. Macey narrows her eyes at him from her spot on the couch above the other two girls as she tosses back the rest of her wine. Even Preston and Jonas look at him with furrows forming above their brows.
Jesus, they’re all so dramatic.
He rolls his eyes and turns to Bex. “You gonna ask me the question or not?”
“But you, you never pick-“ she looks around the group and he marks the date in his calendar. Rebecca Baxter has been rendered speechless and actually physically appears frazzled as she drums her fingers on her knees and looks at the stars. “I mean, what do I ask? I never thought I’d actually get the chance.”
Cammie narrows her eyes and points at him, “Ask him where he hid the M&M’s because I know he did.”
Zach grins, blowing her a kiss that she rolls her eyes at but smiles into her wine glass because of nonetheless.
Bex waves off the suggestion, not serious enough of course. She snaps her fingers and Macey moves to the edge of the couch cushion. “Oh! Private jet and the Russians!”
Bex counters, “Finland, embassy with the Duchess?”
Cammie laughs, “Idaho, potato farmer?”
Jonas shakes his head. “Nah, don’t waste it on that one, I have pictures.”
Zach makes a mental note about finding and deleting those, beginning to hum the jeopardy theme song. He’s definitely drunk, because he should have been noticing the one girl who was far too silent. He should have known that when Elizabeth Sutton is quiet, that means she’s thinking big things.
“What about when he fell in love with Cammie?” The question is calculated, lazy almost in her tone, but it catches him off guard and Liz is far to perceptive to let it slip. His eyes widened, pupils dilating. His breath changed just so, stuck in his throat. His heart rate increased. Damn stupid beer he was never drinking ever again.
The two men opposite him groan at the suggestion and the four women turn on him. Hawk eyes, lioness’ stalking their prey. He was done for the minute the question was suggested. He has one of two options as he sees it now. Lie his ass off to the room of people who know all of his tells or plead with the love of his life.
Zach shakes his head, staring directly at Cammie. “Cammie, no, please don’t make me talk about this in front of everyone? You hate attention, it’s complicated and-“
She hums into her wine glass interrupting him, “I dunno, Zach, I think high school Cammie really needs some answers. You messed with her head quite a bit.”
Shit, bad move. Should have lied right away - ‘I loved Cammie the minute I laid eyes on her in that DC mall. Truly love at first sight, I just had to figure out who that Gallagher Girl really was’ is not gonna cut it now, they’re far too hungry for juicy gossip like they’re back in school.
“We’re married!” He holds up his left hand to prove the point, grasping at anything to make this all go away. Zach gestures out the entrance of the porch, “Our children are asleep down the hall!”
Cam only levels him with a look he’s grown to know very well. It’s the look she gives the kids when they lie and say they brushed their teeth before bed. He’s busted.
Liz stands, the girl closing in on him until his back hits the porch railing. She nudges his chest as she speaks so threateningly for someone with ducks all over their pajama’s. “Spill, or I get the truth serum.”
“You know, I forget that you’re the scariest one of the bunch sometimes Lizzie,” he gulps as Jonas cackles from his spot on the ground.
The four girls simply raise their eyebrows, and he admits defeat. His hands lift to the air beside his head. “Okay, okay, but I need another beer for this.”
Giddy with their victory, everyone settles into comfortable positions, eager to not let him get away with anything but a good and long story.
Zach avoids the creak of the floorboard as he heads into the kitchen, listening intently for the sounds of his children stirring at all. His hip hits the fridge closed in just the right spot, pulling the opener from it’s drawer.
He looks at the fridge as he leans against the counter, a picture of him and Cam in front of Gallagher on the day of Rachel and Joe’s wedding held up by a hand painted magnet. Red splotchy paint covering the words ‘World’s Best Dad’ glazed and shiny from a kiln. It’s not that he doesn’t know when he fell in love with her, he does, it’s just not so simple.
The bottle cap pops off with a hiss, then a click of it hitting the counter. He watches the green metal spin, slowing as it gets closer to meeting the flat surface of the countertop.
“Goode!”
Zach snatches the copper coin he’d been spinning against the tabletop before it flattens and stands, hands held into fists behind his back at attention.
An armed guard with flushed cheeks and a forehead dappled with sweat marches towards him.
Oh swell, it’s Jeff.
At Blackthorne, any guard calling your name in that tone isn’t gonna be great, but Jeff has this way of spitting when he talks, of not realizing what the words personal space mean, and probably has never ever heard of breath mints and their miraculous powers to ward off coffee breath.
Zach’s fingers fiddle with the coin behind his back. He’s getting better about the whole restless energy and showing it thing, but he figures it’s not dire circumstances to be on his game right now. His mind wanders through the possibilities of what today could be about. One of his bedsheet corners wasn’t tight enough, someone found the little yellow package of chocolaty goodness in his sock, or perhaps Jeff didn’t get his coffee and donut this morning and he just feels like picking on someone.
The cafeteria grows more silent as everyone decides that the show that’s about to go down has got to be better than eating the mystery meat on their trays.
“Sir?” Zach questions, staring at the spot just above Jeff’s left ear. A thing Jeff positively hates, causing him to continuously look over his shoulder and wonder what the hell Zach is staring at - but a thing that fills Zach with a small amount of joy.
It’s the little things.
Jeff does just this, head whipping around so fast he’s surprised the man doesn’t give himself whiplash. Jeff’s gaze darts across the wall and back to Zach. Beady, narrowed eyes meet his, Zach’s lips twitch slightly, revealing too much - another thing he’s still working on. But Jeff is fairly harmless and hasn’t quite mastered the art of interpreting Zach’s smaller tells.
“Visitors,” Jeff snarls and Zach’s shoulders fall.
Fuck.
The room grows even more silent, the quiet din of metal silverware hitting their trays and cups hitting wood vanish completely now as the unmistakable red head of hair floats through the cafeteria towards him. Shoulders straighten, voices cease, and breaths are held with each click then clack of black pumps against the concrete floors.
His mother is here, and she’s brought friends.
“Hello darling, miss me?”
Catherine Goode commands attention, she just does. A room full of hormone crazed teenage boys was already going to be acutely aware of a woman wearing a black dress accentuating her curves walking amongst them, they were already going to stare, Zach knows this. But Catherine has something else, the strong voice of a soldier mixed with a soft femininity enveloping each word she speaks, making you think each word is somehow meant only for you. A perfect way to get what she wants that he’s seen in action enough times to know she’s mastered skillfully. Her loss ratio is zero, she has the control every time.
For everyone except her son.
“Can’t say that I have, Cat.” Zach presses the coin between his thumb and forefinger, the indent of Abraham Lincoln surely going to be preserved in his fingerprint forever. He knows it’s a shot in the dark. Sometimes she’s pleasantly surprised by his resistance, dare he say almost impressed. But most times, it ends poorly for him.
Catherine Goode’s eyes - his eyes - narrow, her playfulness disappearing with an art that Houdini would envy. “That’s no way to talk to your mother, Zachary. Let’s go. I have people I need to introduce you to and we have something important to discuss.”
She gestures to the men behind her as she speaks, before stepping closer. Her head dips - like a snake ready to attack. He visualizes it perfectly before it happens, a hand wraps around his bicep, squeezing. Not in a loving, motherly way, but in a warning - strike one. Her voice lowers as she hisses, “Behave,” while fingernails dig into his skin leaving small crescent moons. The snake is playing with it’s food before it tightens it’s coil and removes his oxygen.
“Yes, ma’am.” He grinds his teeth, jaw clenching as the toes of his boots tap together when he straightens to formal attention again.
She smiles, satisfied with his submission and pats his cheek a little too harshly before turning on her heels and clicking away. Her fingers curl behind her head as she walks. “Gentleman.” Then they waggle out to the faces of the cafeteria in a wave, “Boys.”
He hates that he ducks his head, that he follows her blindly. His gut twists as he counts the cracks in the concrete he already knows the number of, knowing that if he were to lift his head, his classmates - if you can even call them that - would be looking at him with eyes full of pity. Sometimes he envies the ones who have nothing, it has to be better than her. But then, it’s like she knows he’ll have a thought like this. She’ll do something almost nice, she’ll make him feel guilty. How dare he wish he didn’t have her, there were good times once upon a time right?
He shakes his head, no, this is what she wants. He simply follows, choosing to hold his chin up in defiance of any pity that he can feel hitting the back of his uniform as he walks out of the cafeteria.
The men she’s brought follow closely behind her. Suits. Not terribly expensive, they’re not big deals. One is slightly taller, a thick brown mustache. This man watches his mother with sharp blue eyes, he’s not fully under her spell it would seem. As Catherine smiles and gestures into a door, the man nods and enters. The slightly younger and shorter one gestures for Zach to enter first. He’s blonde, strong shoulders, with brown eyes that look at Zach in a way that makes him feel like he’s under a microscope. This man closes the door and stands in front of it and Zach would bet his next few meals that he was Secret Service.
Mustache man sits with a groan loudly in a chair as his mother leans up against a low bookshelf. A fairly empty classroom that wasn’t used much these days. While the weather was nice, it was strictly outside for use of the range, running drills, and perimeter and mountain trail runs. Classroom time was for the bitterly cold days that even the teachers and guards knew wasn’t worth making the boys get frostbite over. Catherine fiddles with a cup of pencils, a finger swiping over the top of the shelf and leaving a streak of clean wood in its wake as her mouth pinches in disgust.
Lovely place you send me to school, huh, mom?
“Well, Zach,” mustache man’s voice is gravely, it leads Zach to believe the man used to smoke. The fact mingles with the face in his brain, a connection trying to surface to the forefront of it. Mustache man continues while holding his hand up at a height not too tall, “You’ve grown! You weren’t more than ye high last time I saw you I think.”
Zach’s always hated this greeting. What was a person supposed to say back to that? Thank you? That’s how time and puberty works? That’s what happens when you get three meals a day and stop wondering when the next one will be?
He mashes his lips together in a thin smile with a nod. He’s pretty sure that was a better move than opening it and saying any of that.
The man looks to Secret Service man and then his mother before giving another nod. “Right, well, you must be wondering what we’re here for.”
No, I love being humiliated by my mother in front of groups of people and then following her and two strangers into a dusty classroom to sit in silence, dude. I live for it, it’s my shit.
Again, not saying that, so he remains silent. Mustache man claps his hands together, looking to his mother for further instruction so it would seem. She smiles at Zach, her salesman one - the one he knows she pulls out when she really wants her way.
“Darling, these men, they have a proposition for you. A mission.”
He stands up a little straighter, unable to help himself at the word mission. A real mission? Involving his mother? The men furrow their brows slightly as Catherine continues and his apprehension and curiosity fight bay-blades style in his head - whirling around and knocking edges, unsure of who’s going to pull out in the lead just yet.
“They need some information. Some information that they think only you may be able to get for them.”
Zach waits, knowing his mother is just getting started. She’s setting a trap, complimenting him, loosening some stones in his closed off exterior, weakening it until it’s ready for a final strike. He rolls the grooved edge of the coin between his thumb and forefinger.
Catherine walks along the wall, her hands clasped behind her back. Her heels click against the tile, gaze lost on the tattered map hung on the wall. She leans in, feigning inspection as she speaks again. Her tone somehow lazy but dripping with an authoritative quality that when combined, made you lean in and feel the need to listen carefully. “As you’ve most likely come to know in your training, it’s important, in some missions, to get close to a subject. To have a relationship with them, to make them an asset.”
The mustached man cut in, “An asset is-“
“A person within organizations who provide information to outside sources. Yeah, I know.”
“Zachary.”
Warning number two, he won’t be given a third.
Silence fills the room again at her sharp use of his name. Zach’s head bows and the other two men focus on her - it’s her happy place, he knows this. She controls the room, two grown men with their entire attention fully on her and her son’s submission, she’d bask in it like it was the sun on the beach for hours if she had the time.
Zach begins to flip the coin, impatient for the details of how this all affects him, what exactly it is he’s being asked here. He watches the coin arc in the air and land in his hand several times, waiting for her big finish.
Her slender and skilled fingers intercept the coin on his next toss. Her green eyes hold his and this time, even he can’t deny them as she delivers his very first official mission.
“We need you to get some information from Joe.”

Lol so I picked up a cicada shell this past week and set it on top of a wet specimen jar I have in the living room (it’s a tattooed pig ear from when a friend of mine was doing an apprenticeship), but I guess Cam didn’t pick up cicada shells as a kid because he had no idea what it was and just got soo skeeved out by it.

Mahayana/Zen Buddhist Reflection on experience
Reflective practices are a way for us to become aware of our own state of being. Mindful reflection brings us back to ourselves, allowing us to come closer to our own body, emotions, thoughts, and spirit. This gives us an opportunity to settle into a fresh harmony and balance.
What am I thinking?
Thinking about the fact I’m wearing the action-cam helmet, the students and TAs can see it, it’s recording my view and voice.
Thinking about prompting and provoking students to think about and engage with design methods used in the poster example on the board. Thinking about ways to get them to understand what design methods are.
Thinking about how I sound and whether I’m communicating clearly. Mulling over whether this learning experience is an effective one for the students.
Thinking about whether students are feeling comfortable and confident to share their thoughts in a public, group setting.
Thinking about how the footage I’m capturing is looking.
Thinking that my legs are feeling a bit stiff and that I need to lower the desk to sit down.
Thinking about what Chinese students would think about Māori culture, and the statement ‘Proud to be Māori’.
Thinking about what the students will come up with during the activity.
Thinking about the next break and when I can go stretch my legs.
Contemplating what I have for an afternoon tea snack (two corn thins with 6 gram peanut butter on each)
What do I see?
My iMac screen (with my pdf presentation and video feed of myself and the class of students in Shaoxing), my desk and various items on it, the view out of the window of a hot sunny day and my tomato and chilli plants, curtains, wall.
What do I hear?
My own voice, students and TAs on the other end of the line chatting, answering my questions, birds and the wind faintly from outside, crickets and cicadas in the late summer heat,
What do I smell?
Slight mustiness and stuffiness in the room, some dust. My own coffee breath.
What do I taste?
Coffee flavour/grinds from copious coffees consumed throughout the day, saliva.
What do I feel?
Slightly self-aware/conscious that I’m recording my view and voice.
Legs are slightly stiff from standing too long.
Back slightly slouched and hunched. Neck craning forward towards the screen.
Relatively calm and in control of the learning situation.
Engaged and interested in the topic.
Pleased that the students are comprehending and engaging well.
The small cheap Goldair fan on full blast, pushing out a tiny bit of relief from the clinging, cloying, stuffy heat of the study.
Carpet and yoga mat beneath my feet.
DIY action-cam helmet on my head.
What assumptions am I making?
That I’m coming across as a fraud/phony
That I sound dorky
That some of the students are ignoring me.
That I’m coming across as a know-it-all Westerner.
That the students are engaged and understanding.

The faint sounds of cicadas were no match for the busy streets in Hawkins, littered with children and teens alike, carrying each their Halloween baskets with the mission to get candy from every neighborhood in town.
Every step you’d take you’ll hear a joyous “Happy Halloween!” followed by getting their baskets shoved with different kinds of chocolates and candy.
And you were one of them. Smiling as you said your thanks, you walked away, wanting to go to the next of many houses.
Everybody had their costumes on, some you could recognize were in horror movies, some were heroes, and some were even dressed up as aliens and animals.
You however, had taken the decision to dress up as the Scarlet Witch.
You had this plan for the longest time, even begging your parents to let you get the materials so you could start working even before Halloween.
They agreed, and soon enough your efforts paid off.
You grinned at the people who gave you whole-hearted compliments on your costume, as well as you giving theirs.
Though with all the kids around, your eyes caught on a group, specifically dressed as the Ghostbusters as they laughed and complained about the cheap candy they got.
Your attention, however, seemed to focus on the one that held the huge camera.
He was the only one who rarely smiled, it seemed like something was off about him. That is until they came across another house, who had just been visited by other teens.
That’s also when you heard them shout something you didn’t expect.
It started when they lunged up on him repeatedly saying words along the lines of:
“Watch it, zombie boy!”
“Freak!”
“Weirdo’s come out to play, huh?!”
Then there was another one in a clown costume that took the final blow at him.
“Boo!”
Sending the boy flat on the ground along with his camera a few inches away, your senses suddenly became alert. It didn’t matter what they were shouting at him, the only thing on your mind was to help him.
The thing was, you hesitated. You saw him look around, but his look felt like he was in a whole new place he could wholeheartedly recognize, and it scared him.
Everybody seemed to mind their own businesses, his friends long forgotten about him as he shakily stood up.
You still held your ground, watching. Maybe he didn’t need your help, maybe he was only shaken up a bit and he’ll be fine.
But his body language compelled otherwise. He looked to be saying something as he started walking away, lost in the familiar streets of Hawkins.
Then he looked up, up at the sky. His shoulders suddenly seemed heavy as it heaved with every breath he took.
You looked at where he was glancing at, but nothing was out of the ordinary, it was bright out, filled with stars and clouds brushing the sky.
Then you glanced down and he was running in the opposite direction from where his friends were, camera forgotten on the cement ground.
“Hey, hey!” You began to shout, but the distance was too far away from him to even hear you, it only earned you a few weird looks.
You shake your head, deciding to finally take matters in your own hands as his friends were too busy getting their treats.
Running, you grabbed the camera and watched as he dipped below somewhere. You ran towards him, the weight of the camera slightly keeping you off balance as you ran for him.
You were met with stairs headed downwards and what looked to be an entrance of a basement. You looked back to see if any of his friends had seen what happened, but no one followed you nor him.
“Hey? Excuse me you dropped your camera…” You said in hopes of a friendly introduction.
You slowly stepped down, not wanting to alert the boy further. You could see the slight outline of his shadow. Finally reaching him, you were now suddenly unsure of what to do.
He was curled up, arms hugging his knees as his foot tapped alternatively, his eyes shut as if he was in some kind of nightmare.
He was muttering some words you couldn’t quite make out.
“Are you al- Ah!!“ You carefully placed a hand on his shoulder but that action only surprised him as he let out a gasp of surprise as you did as well, his hand shooting up to grip your wrists as his eyes were suddenly blown wide.
He looks around frantically, failing to catch his breath.
“Calm down, hey, calm down you’re fine! You’re okay!” You tried your best attempt at comforting someone you didn’t even know.
He didn’t answer, he gave only a distant look as he shivered, blinking a few times as his grip on you tightened every few seconds.
You were beginning to feel scared yourself, what if his friends came now and probably blamed you for what’s happening to their friend?
Then you remembered the breathing technique you have thought yourself whenever times get too rough. You hoped this would somehow work on this boy.
“Okay, okay let’s do something different- uh okay… why don’t you look at me, okay? Look at me.” You said even though you were nervous yourself. Gladly, the boy seemed to listen as his eyes locked onto yours so suddenly.
You opened your mouth and mimicked breathing. “Okay, follow me.. Okay? Breathe in in 3, 2, 1..okay good..” You say, breathing in, to your surprise it looked like he was following it. Thank heavens.
“Now, breathe out with me okay? In 1, 2, 3…” Breathing out, you continued.
The first few minutes helped with his shivering, then as more minutes passed by, he began to take control of his breath as his grip on your wrist loosened.
“Wh- where- am I? Wh- where’s-“ Will tried to speak.
Before thinking of it, you were already reaching out for your bag, thankful for the bottle of water your mom packed you with.
“Okay, try having a drink first then talk?” You offered as he took it, swallowing down half the water as he let out a relieved sigh after.
Only then Will finally came to his senses. He looked at you, then at your costume.
“You’re Maximoff, Wanda Maximoff.” He spoke akin to someone in awe.
You couldn’t help but smile at him, nodding. Tilting your head, you pointed at his name tag on his costume.
“And you, you must be Egon Spengler, am I right?” You teased.
“Yeah, I- I am.” He replied shyly.
“Your costume’s cool.” He compliments after a moment of silence between the two of you.
“I’ll have you know I’ve made it myself.” You proudly responded with a smile. “Preparing all these months just to use it in one day may not be as bad as I thought it would be..”
Will had found himself looking at you with a funny feeling in his heart.
“But that backpack of yours! It’s so cool! And you even have all the little details on it!” It was Will’s turn to blush.
“Thank you…”
“Oh and before I forgot!” You exclaimed, holding his camera up to face him. “You dropped this, I couldn’t leave it alone in the street, for sure your parents would be telling you off all night.”
Will nods, completely forgetting about the camera, but hey, at least he won’t suffer his mom and possibly Bob’s wrath, although he thinks he’d get a mouthful from Jonathan for losing such a valuable camera.
“I completely forgot about that, hopefully I’ve done a good job at documenting our trick or treating tonight, Bob won’t stop reminding me to record everything, he says its for the “memories”.” Will says.
You roll your eyes “I’m sure you did! Gotta admit that thing is more heavier than it looks, how did you manage to keep a straight angle!” You joked.
Will laughed with you, “That’s what we’re supposed to find out, I guess.”
Then you heard the dozen footsteps making their way down to where you and Will were.
“Will! Will!” You heard one of them shout. “You okay man? What the hell happened?!” Then another. “We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” Another.
“Mike! Lucas! Dustin!” Will greeted.
“Are you hurt?” The other one hurriedly went to his side, inspecting him.
“Is he okay?”
You were suddenly overwhelmed by his friends that you stepped aside, letting them have the room.
“Mike, don’t worry, I’m fine.” Will reassured what you assumed was Mike, then the others.
“I’m gonna get you home, okay?” You heard him say as he hoisted Will up.
You didn’t know why, but that simple phrase planted some kind of sadness in you. Will you ever see him again? You hoped so.
“Guys, I’m fine.. Really it’s nothing-“
“No its not, let’s go.”
“Okay we’ve got him-“
“No I’ve got him.” Mike said to the rest of his friends.
“Mike… Mike come on man.” The one with the curly hair said.
“No, you go and have some fun with your trick or treating, we’re going home.”
Before you forgot, you grabbed the camera, hoping to be of some kind of help, even though this Mike seemed to be a little angry.
“Hey- uh his camera...” You utter. Mike looked at you as if you were just someone in the way, he grabbed the camera from your hands and shrugged.
“Thanks.” He said flatly. Will looked at you with a kind of apologetic look before he was helplessly dragged off.
You awkwardly stood there with the rest of his friends.
“Hey, you.. We’re sorry about our friend there we didn’t know what has gotten into him.” One said.
“Yeah, he’s not always an ass.” The other followed.
“It’s nothing really… I- uh I guess I’ll go now, my parents are probably looking for me and yeah..” You just wanted to get out of there.
They were nice enough to bid you goodbye’s and you found yourself headed home.
But as you lay in bed that night, you still felt sad you didn’t had time to make friends with Will.
Great, moving into a new place and you’ve already failed at making friends before school started for you.
All you could do was shrug and cover yourself up with a blanket, closing your eyes shut and hoping for some kind of miracle tomorrow.
The school bell rang, signaling the start of another class.
For other students, Science felt like another boring subject to sit into, well that’s not the case for these four, not for Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will.
As the students found their seats, their Teacher, Scott, clapped his hands together in excitement. “Class am I happy to announce that you will be having another new student today!”
Then cue the whispers as the party also had whispers of their own going on.
“Who do you think it would be?”
Will stayed silent as he listened, he still couldn’t forget about the night before. The one with the Scarlet Witch costume that he stupidly forgot to ask what their name was.
“I hope not someone boring.”
Half of him wanted the new student to be you, the other half countered it, him believing it was a long shot.
“Now may I present, Dustin, another drum roll if you may,” Their teacher asked as Dustin obeyed, closing his books and tapping his hands repeatedly on it.
“Let’s welcome, (Y/N) (L/N)!”
Will slowly looked up and he could’ve sworn he almost leapt out from his chair. It couldn’t be.
Even with the limited view he had, he could definitely tell it was you, you were looking down on the floor, Will’s jaw hanged slightly open.
“Holy shit no way!” Dustin exclaimed beside Will. You were taken aback that you looked up and spotted the person you saw before, but then your eyes glanced over to the one beside him.
Your eyes widened as Will’s also did.
“You..” You whispered.
You froze as Will held the eye contact.
“Okay as I’ve taken it some of you have already met Them? That’s good news now (Y/N), kindly take that empty seat over there.. Thank you.” Your new teacher, Scott said, stretching his arm outwards to point where your designated seat was.
“(Y/N)?”
“Oh- sorry...” You apologized before quickly heading to your seat, not sparing anyone another glanced as you kept your eyes glued on your desk for the mean time.
Then Dustin and Lucas both gave Will a knowing look while Mike looked confused.
Waiting for class to be over felt like hell for The Party, they all couldn’t wait to go over to you and ask you to sit with them at the cafeteria.
Then it finally rang.
Dustin and Lucas both sprung from their seats, hurrying over to you as Will desperately tried to follow them without stumbling over his own two feet.
You were just about to pack your notes when a hand slamming down on your desk makes you jolt and look at who the hand belonged to.
It was the kid from yesterday and next to him was his other friend and the one that looked a lot like Mike.
“Are you the one from last night?”
“We’ve got a lot to ask you!”
Their words slowed down to a buzz as you felt another wave of nervousness.
Thankfully enough, Will seemed to sense this as he shoves Dustin and Lucas out of the way. Will tells them something that has their hands raising up in defeat.
“Hey there, you were the one wearing the Maximoff costume, right? Sorry- I promise they’re nice... I’m sure they didn’t mean to scare you.” Will’s voice registered in your ears as your eyes flickered to his.
“Definitely wasn’t expecting it...” You tried to play it off but you were still wary of his other friends looking at you.
Will turns around to look at them before looking back at you.
“This may be a lot but if you want, I could show you around! Minus these people of course.” Will jokes that earned a “Hey!” and “Rude!” from his group of friends.
“No, its alright, I- yeah I would like that.” You smiled at Will and you sworn the way he smiled back was even brighter than ever.
Before you know it, Will was already reaching his hand out for you.
“Where do you wanna start?”
