I watched THE WATCHERS, and felt like I’d been catfished. The film I’d been so excited to see was instead buried under a bevy of “first feature” mistakes. Growing up as M. Night’s daughter, I maybe was expecting too much from Ishana Night Shyamalan’s debut.
The film follows Mina (Dakota Fanning), a woman contending with past trauma, as she sets off on a routine delivery of a bird from the pet store she works at in a small town in Ireland. It doesn’t go as planned. In the cold open we learn that there is a place in Ireland where fairy tales are reality, and it’s definitely not somewhere you want to find yourself after dark. Naturally, her car breaks down at that exact location right at dusk.
She is rescued in the nick of time by an older woman we’ll learn is called Madeline (Olwen Fouéré) and guided to a mysterious dwelling in the middle of the forest, where we will be spending the majority of our time. There are two other people stuck here in the wilderness, Ciara (Georgina Campbell) and Daniel (Oliver Finnegan), and together they must try to outwit and survive the titular Watchers. Which, admittedly, are very scary.
Unfortunately, the dialogue that at times bordered on things no human would ever say, plot twists even the most unsavvy could see coming a mile away, and so many suspensions of disbelief asked of the viewer all combine to make a largely frustrating experience. There’s a good movie in here, but I was taken out by easily fixed distracting elements so many times that after I while I couldn’t even really enjoy the good that is buried under the surface. And I haven’t even mentioned the pacing issues or character arcs that make zero narrative sense!
Granted, these might all be weaknesses present in the source novel, which I have yet to read - and believe it or not, still want to read after seeing this adaptation, but they were weaknesses that should have been fixed at some point in the movie making process before it made its way to our theater screens. I’m still excited to see what Shyamalan will do next, Fanning gives my favorite performance of hers in years, and the Irish countryside is appropriately beautiful and spooky, and the reveal was ridiculous enough for me to appreciate, but I won’t be watching THE WATCHERS again unless under duress (or it’s the only movie available when I’m trapped in a cabin in the middle of nowhere for months).
2/5

I had planned on at least three videos this October but, as you might have guessed it didn't work out.
The first two weeks I was ill back to back (it sucked). The last three weeks I was just trying to get things done and play catch up. Instead of spending hours editing / working late into the morning hours, I used my left over energy towards Inktober. I feel guilty and, am disappointed that I let this month slip away from me.
This may not be the most Halloween themed or spooky PMV but, I hope it will do. I hope you all had a truly amazing month and a frightfully good Halloween.

37 Must-See Celebrity Costumes from Halloween 2018

37 Must-See Celebrity Costumes from Halloween 2018
There’s something exquisitely delightful about celebrity Halloween costumes.
During Halloweekend (and on Halloween itself), Instagram turns into a kind of red carpet—a virtual one filled with whimsical get-ups, rather than a physical one covered in evening gowns. And that’s because celebrities tend to take Halloween more seriously than we do. Honestly, they take it more seriously than anyone we know.
Vanessa Hudgens dedicated her Instagram to Halloween for the entire month of October, adopting a strictly black-and-white aesthetic and uploading all kinds of spooky pics. Heidi Klum has spent more time brainstorming and executing Halloween costumes than we can possibly fathom.
Even stars who aren’t known for their Halloween spirit have pulled off head-turning costumes. Remember Lebron James as Pennywise? Or Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum as Sally and Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas? Or Kelly Rowland as Dionne from Clueless?
Celebrities make Halloween happen, and they diligently upload photos to Instagram so the rest of us can vicariously celebrate alongside them.
Ahead, 37 of the most incredible celebrity Halloween costumes we’ve seen this year.
Because dressing up for Halloween is fun. But seeing how celebrities dressed up for Halloween is somehow even more fun.
