i don’t think there are any new releases i’m interested in left so here’s my own 2022 ‘’’wrapped’’’ (that’s been ready since spotify’s) because the amount of times i listen to something isn’t necessarily related to how much they made a mark on me / whether i would recommend them so here we go:
2022 RELEASES
💿 “raving dahlia” (EP), sevdaliza — solidified her as one of my fav artists and the visual material related to it is quite compelling
💿 “redcar les adorables étoiles” (prologue), catq a.k.a. redcar
💿 “the happy star”, lexie liu
🎵 “looking for somebody (to love)” + “i’m in love with you” + “oh caroline” + “part of the band”, the 1975 — BFIAFL is a good, cohesive album but i miss the charm (and the length) of its more eclective predecessors
🎵 “kisé”, lous and the yakuza
🎵 “sculptures of anything goes”, arctic monkeys
🎵 “fascination”, tamino
🎵 “fils de joie”, stromae
🎵 “ciao ciao”, la rappresentante di lista — shook my ass to it in a small crowd of sciure at their gig, couldn’t skip it could i
🎵 “be sweet” (kor vers.), japanese breakfast feat. so!yoon! — loved the og so it was nice to revisit it in another language and with the addition of hwang soyoon’s voice
🎵 “look of love”, cho youngwook & the soundtrackings — from decision to leave’s soundtrack
DISCOVERED IN 2022
💿 “art museum”, lofibaby
and on that note their cover of sunmi’s tail with which they auditioned to superband 2
🎵 “stripped”, depeche mode — i’ve been nibbling at their extensive discography lately trying to get to know more than the handful of tracks i was already familiar with, this stood out
🎵 “i would die 4 u”, prince — which i discovered because i stumbled upon chvrches’ cover of it and they're both bangers
🎵 “to love somebody”, janis joplin
🎵 “long lost”, lord huron — all thanks to an ask game and @stigmate
🎵 “prickly pear”, portico quartet — thanks to paola again
🎵 “mile end”, pulp
🎵 “merry christmas mr. lawrence”, ryuichi sakamoto — from the soundtrack of the film with the same name
🎵 “orbit” (live @ AIR studios), nao
🎵 “i am in a period of desperation”, hiperson — it would have never got on my radar without @girlfaramir
🎵 “判 (suffering)”, meng meiqi
🎵 “刘柏辛 (ALGTR)”, lexie liu
🎵 “민족요 (entrance)”, lim kim — this performance especially
2022 K-MUSIC SELECTION
i heavily relied on kpop this year lol so i tried to make it as short as possible
the whole “gasoline” album by key actually, no skip
“dice” + “in the whale”, onew (the whole EP’s solid though)
“waterfall”, minho feat. lim kim
“rush”, the fix
“coNEXTion (age of light)”, nct u — its instrumental especially helloo
bibi’s “lowlife princess: noir” has that ‘you should listen to the album in its entirety instead of picking faves’ quality but i guess the latter include “jotto”, “animal farm” & “bibi vengeance” (the singles basically)
"cheers” + “_WORLD” + "shadow", seventeen (i realised i played face the sun/sector 17 only close to their release date so)
“ruby”, woozi — filed under songs that are wayyy too short for how great they are
“limbo” (chn vers.), jun
“28 reasons”, seulgi
“feel my rhythm”, red velvet
“devil” + “maniac”, max changmin
“illusion”, aespa
“venom” + “maniac”, stray kids
“guerrilla”, ateez
“invu”, taeyeon
“attention” + “hype boy” + "ditto", newjeans
“ring ma bell” + “gingamingayo”, billlie
“doom du doom”, p1harmony
“hijack”, woodz (the whole EP actually)

🌈 guess who it is (starts with an s and ends with an oane) you dont have to do this i just love you and forgot i can actually send you stuff 😳😳 i hope u have a great evening and that ur bread making goes well i have so much faith in you
LISTEN. i literally gasped when i saw this you have no clue how happy this made me. i had to stop my music so i could put all my focus into complimenting you. had to put a ‘keep reading’ tab thingie because you never send me asks and i never get to compliment you.
s*oane. you are fucking cool. i don’t curse on this blog so much but i have to now because just COOL wouldn’t be enough to really describe how cool i think you are. our first ever conversation, you sent me really scary yellow circle men and from then on i was like.. 👁👄👁 i would die for this person. you’ve always been blatant and honest with me, but never short of kind and loving. you’re incredibly funny, and our conversations range everywhere from EARS to bread. even though we don’t have 100% similar interests, we never run out of things to talk about just because you’re so great at coming up with things to tell me. you literally.. live life. in fact, i envy you sometimes! all your stories about the things you do make me so happy, because though we’re not exactly similar, i’m able to learn so much about life from you. our friendship makes me so happy, and i’m so lucky you trust me.
now that’s about you. time for your writing. literally anybody who doesn’t read what you write is missing out on SO MUCH. you have such a delicate way with words, regardless if you’re writing something soft or violent or whatever it is your heart goes for. its so good that i’m determined to read everything you write, even the ones i wouldn’t understand (ie: the star wars one. that was the first thing i’ve ever read of yours and i got sucked in though i had no clue what was happening oops). you are an embodiment of talent, and i feel so happy and proud whenever you show me what you’ve made (writing, drawings, or bread)
a song for you: the mother we share by chvrches. this is one of my most favourite songs of all time. it always sucks me in and i can’t help repeating it over and over, and i never feel alone when i listen to this. reminds me a lot of you! you’re always there for me, and i’ll always be there for you, despite the terrible timezone difference. 💓 tell mr billy lush i said hi please

I was listening to 'Do I Wanna Know?' (Chvrches cover of Artic Monkeys) & these lines screamed Malex: Ever thought of calling when you've had a few? 'Cause I always do Maybe I'm too busy being yours to fall for somebody new Now I've thought it through Crawling back to you Maybe one half of Malex is drunk, really wants to call the other but doesn't & the next day goes to have a sober talk with him about them?
When Michael wakes up, it’s to nearly fifty texts in his drafts. They’re all unsent, but they paint a very vivid picture. Sitting up slowly, he groans as he glances behind him to make sure he didn’t bring anyone home last night after a blackout night at the Pony, but luckily he’d been both smart enough to come home alone, but also not to send any of the texts.
Staring at them, he reaches for a bottle of acetone, because hair of the dog is a necessity if he’s going to cope with this.
They’re mostly to Alex. Early in the night, there’s a few drafts for Isobel (what was w/ ur weird muppet vest the other nite? did you skin fozzy bear?) and then a few to Liz (i need u to know that if u call me mikey in front of witnesses, i will crush u w/ my brain).
From there, it looks like he’d had a little too much to drink and had gone one-track mind.
Alex-minded, more like.
u know what i miss, i miss the way you kissed my neck
fuck, how come we only ever woke up together once?
i miss you
ilu
They go on like that, and on, and just when Michael thinks that his parade of pathetic pining is over, he scrolls down and finds some more. Grabbing a bunch of his curls in his hand, his only relief is that the messages are all sitting in his drafts, so even drunk, he had some sense. He groans and collapses back on the bed.
He knows he’s not doing so well, not since Max, but this is a new low. When he hadn’t been able to explain to Maria how his hand had healed, that relationship had grown complicated too, and he’d cowardly bolted from going down that road because the last thing he needs is yet another complicated thing that makes him feel like shit.
His drunk self doesn’t agree, it looks like.
There’s a few texts to Maria in there, but they’re mostly apologies, the kind of drunken sad ones that radiate regret. He definitely didn’t text i want to lick every inch of your body to her the way that he had to Alex.
For a few hours, he hydrates and drinks acetone until he feels like he can move a few steps without puking.
Once his head is clear, Michael has the feeling that he needs to talk to Alex. He brings up a brand new message and texts Alex to ask if he can come by the cabin to speak to him. He sends this one, and this is the one that gets an instant reply.
only if you bring coffee
Right. Coffee run it is.
He drops by the Crashdown to get Alex’s usual and then adds two extra espresso shots to his own order before he makes the drive out to the cabin, caffeinating until he’s jittery. He owes Alex a lot – apologies, explanations, actual lines of honest communication – but right now, he just needs to sort out his head so he doesn’t have nights like last night.
“Hey!” Michael calls out, letting himself in the cabin. Alex has already said that he can come and go as he pleases, which would be exciting if it weren’t for the fact that he’d also made keys for Liz and Kyle and said the same thing. He’s no better than a friend, right now, which is the bed he’s made and has to lie in.
He can hear rustling from the bedroom and Michael heads to the door to see Alex finishing with his prosthetic, fiddling with some of the adjustments.
“Coffee,” Michael says, setting it on the nightstand beside Alex since his hands are busy. He’s nervous and a bit frantic, and he puts his phone down on the nightstand beside the coffee because he’s worried that he’s going to press the wrong button and send all those drafts, seeing as they’re open so Michael can let his eyes skim over them to remind himself why he’s here. He navigates back to the home screen, lingering at the edge of the bed, trying not to think about Alex getting undressed instead of this.
He wants to talk about the messages in his phone, wants to show Alex and talk about how much he still wants to be with him, but not yet. Michael decides that he needs a minute to collect himself. He can talk to Alex about it, he can, he just needs a minute.
“Hey, can I use the bathroom?”
Alex nods, distracted with the latches, cursing under his breath. Michael takes advantage to bolt for the bathroom, where he spends a good five minutes staring at his reflection in the mirror, telling himself that he can do this. He’s here to talk, that’s all. They’re not ending things, no one is walking away, and they can be mature adults about this.
When another few minutes pass, Michael figures that either he’s got to get out there or Alex is going to think he only came over to the cabin to abuse bathroom privileges.
When he leaves the bathroom, it’s to the sight of Alex with Michael’s phone.
“Fuck!” he can’t help his automatic reaction on the heels of a panicked noise, and the severity and suddenness of it makes Alex nearly fumbles the phone.
“Sorry,” Alex says. “Sorry, it was ringing and I saw it was Isobel, so I was trying to silence it, only I think it shifted to your messages and I…” Guilt flashes over his face. “I saw the messages. The drafts.”
That wouldn’t just be there. That means that Alex had to go looking for them. “Why would you…?”
“Because last night, I got this one random text from you, and it looked like it was part of something else and I…” Alex gives him an apologetic look. “What you wrote me was pretty safe. It just said something about my mouth, how you missed it when I was reading something and i started mouthing the words out loud. I didn’t really think much about it, because it was kind of really badly typed and I know that you’ve been drinking, lately.”
Understatement.
“Guerin,” Alex exhales. “You’re not the only one with unsent, unspoken words. I just never know how to bring them up.” He gives him an unsure look as he steadies his weight on the prosthetic, standing carefully (with Michael’s help as he reaches out to hold onto him). “Is that why you’re here? To talk about them?”
He nods. “I think it says something about the fact that I wrote more than ten times the texts to you than I did to anyone else. I’m glad my finger only slipped the once, that some part of my brain knew it wasn’t right to send them to you, but I’m here because it also says that there’s something still there.”
Michael’s in pain and fighting grief and it’s not that he wants to use Alex as a bandage, but maybe part of his grief is because of the wound that he and Alex never let heal.
Alex reaches for the coffee and Michael’s phone, handing the latter out to him.
“Look,” Alex says quietly, “when you’re ready, send me the texts. Okay? I don’t want there to be things unsaid between us. Not anymore. I also don’t want you to think that you have to keep drinking instead of talking to me. So…” He reaches over to squeeze Michael’s shoulder. “Think about it?”
Michael nods, feeling like he’s been struck mute. It’s a terrifying ask, but it’s one that he knows will take them to a new level – a better place, even. All it will take is some courage, some honesty, and some willingness to try; on both their parts.
“Come on,” Alex breaks into that unnerving silence. “Since you’re here, I was gonna clean out the eaves today and…” He waggles his brows at him, tapping his temple.
Michael huffs out a laugh. “Yeah. Yeah, my alien powers were definitely meant to clean out blockages.”
“You’re here,” Alex points out. “And you brought me coffee. It’s up to you.”
Because Michael is a sucker and because it’s better than obsessing over all those unsent messages, he does stay and he uses his powers to help clean the eaves of the cabin. His phone is in his pocket and it feels like it’s burning a hole, but he’ll figure it out. He even thinks soon, because it feels like he’s sitting on a landmine and at this point, he’d rather it just go off.
*
It turns out that Michael doesn’t need much time to figure his shit out.
He knows that he’s not automatically healed. He knows this won’t fix everything and that he has a lot of damage to undo both with Maria and Alex, for what he’d done. Still, he also knows that the only way out is through and if that way happens to end with Alex at the finish line, then he definitely wants to pursue it. He’d come over to Alex’s place with coffee again, because yesterday after they’d finished with the eaves, Alex had mentioned something about needing to dig out the foundation to repair a crack.
So here he is, ready to work, and ready for other things, too.
The next day, Michael presses a button and sends all his drafts. He takes immense joy in hearing Alex’s phone going wild with notifications, combined with the strangled sound that Alex makes from the kitchen that tells Michael that he’s read all of them, including the filthy batch that Michael had drafted nearer to the end of the night.
That smug feeling of victory evaporates when his own phone goes wild with alerts and he sees his inbox:
278 unread messages from Alex Manes
It looks like he’s not the only one with things unsaid. Grinning as he catches Alex’s eye, he can feel his heart pounding in his chest.
“No more unspoken words?” Alex suggests.
That’s a promise Michael can definitely make. “No more.”

Me sees the character songs post, immediately wants to know what character songs you have for the characters and why.
ok so. welcome to the rabbit hole that is my music taste and what is my no.1 most frequently done activity.. plastering emotions i have for fictional characters all over my music taste. I restricted myself to ¾ songs for each character & then to Edie, Hubert, Dorothea, Lysithea & Byleth because otherwise we’d be here all day (and those are the Primary Daydream Candidates rn)
under a rm because as im sure we’ve all seen.. i just don’t fucking stop.. also i got weirdly deep about some of these topics. i don’t know how to tag it. tread careful?
Here are some songs.. welcome to my (notoriously bad) music taste. alsoi go in Very heavy handed about it all. i make only a few apologies:
Edelgard:Everybody wants to rule the word - tears for fears. (ucan go with Lorde’s cover but i prefer the original bc im like that.) i meanit’s pretty heavy handed but it’s such an Edelgard song it !!!! fuels my ficwriting. if it’s not so very Edelgard’s relationship with twsitd then idk whatto tell you. plus it’s an iconic song
Medicine - daughter. (daughter is My Favourite Band. Ever. I cannot articulate how much ilove their (and ex:re’s) music!!) anway. this is a hegegard song & i don’ttake constructive criticism. I’ll reiterate this better in other descriptions, but please don’t take my inclusion of a song about such a topic as adevaluation of it in any way, that’s not my intention. The reason I go so feralfor Hegegard is because im no stranger to watching someone you care about hurt themselvesin a way you can’t stop, and that’s what the AM ending evokes in me. Hence: asong I love that one can read the same story in. And then the lyrics ‘You couldstill be / What you want to / What you said you were / When I met you” just !! parallelsEdge of Dawn’s lyrics about regret & overall I’m very feral about this.
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper - blue oystercult. this is PRIME Edelgard telling freshly-awokenbyleth she’s been waging war for 5 years. also !!!! “Seasonsdon’t fear the reaper / Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be likethey are” >>> “The Edge of Dawn (Seasons ofWarfare) (フレスベルグの少女~風花雪月~,lit. Girl of Hresvelg ~Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon~)” .. the link is tenuous but coincidence?? is it, fuck.
Seneca - Novo Amor. this is another one of those songs that could mean something different to everyone. very easy to project onto, is novo amor. I like the story of being prepared to run and break ties at any given moment, but ending up - emotionally or physically - in the same place one always was. apart from the glaring tie of how Edelgard returned to garreg mach, this song is a lot of me trying to repatriate Edelgard’s lack of emotional arc in the game by saying . well. this song.
You can call me Al -  paul simon. am i projecting edeleth thoughts onto my favourite song? it’s morelikely than you think!!! but also i like the chorus and all the exasperating ‘call me el’jokes i can make.. i may be half writing a fic based on this song.
Dorothea:Agnes - glass animals. so i have significant emotions about edelthea at the best of times !! and this song !!! really bloody hits it home !! yes I knowit’s got a really heavy and real subject matter and I’m not trying to devalueit or minimise it.. but the story - about watching someone close to you hurtthemselves/get hurt, and doing so in ways you can’t stop them from - is adamn real one. And a Lot of why I love Dorothea’s character in the gamebecause she’s the one who can’t stop her friends from getting hurt – through exposureto warfare .. or  stopping Edelgard becomingthe monster at the end of the story. Even though she’s one of the healers onthe beagle’s team. And I feel that.
Ex’s and Oh’s – Elle King. So you know that one spn fanvid featuringthis song about all of dean winchester’s relationships? That, but for my flirting Queen Dorothea Arnault. (and I have the dumbest most fun little headcanon thatonce Dorothea and Sylvain derailed a lgbt+ society meeting whilst Edie wastrying to go over the budget by blasting this song and dancing on the table. The idea makes me laugh)
Hold My Girl – George Ezra. The whole thing about wanting just that onemoment to cherish the people you love for one moment more before you have goout face the world? If that’s not the timeskip’d Dorothea Arnault Aesthetic, Idon’t know what is.
(Call Me Out – sea girls. On a much lighter note, this song is fueling the later half of mydrafts of road trip au. And it’s literally because of that one verse. im gayshut up.)
Hubert:Red Right Hand – nick cave and the bad seeds. Is it on the nose? Is itheavy handed? Oh u fuckin bet but that won’t stop me!!! A) it’s a good song. ItIs. B) I like narrative songs. C) Any ‘red right hand’ symbolism in Anycharacter has me love them immediately and also plonk this song in the middleof any playlist about them. sure, the artic monkeys version might be a bit more on hubert’s brand.. but my mileage varies about it lmao
I had fortress by bear’s den earmarked for Hubie, as I think it’s easilyread about boundaries and a one sided intense relationship & that’s! Hubiebaybee! But I can’t possibly cover unhealthy relationships without shoving thealbum Hospice by The Antlers into every which way of it. It’s by no meansdirectly translatable to Edelgard and hubert’s relationship and it’s arguable ifI should even mention it in the same sentence as a bloody fictional character… that beingsaid, I’ve been having emotions about:Shiva – the antlers. This song specifically reads to me to be a really goodarticulation of my own thoughts about Hubert’s perspective of Edie getting experimentedon. heavy but damn. I like that. I just see a lot of what their teen years togethermust have been like in Shiva.
Time – Pink Floyd. Ok so.. it’s like Hubert in parallel bc I think thissong is a lot about searching for a purpose/reason or a quote unquote bloodyred path in life. And I may have been listening to it when I watched Hubert/DorotheaA support & now it’s just permanently associated with it bc it complementedit so well. And I like it. So . it stays. It’s very much a beagles song to meas well.
Lysithea:The Beautiful Dream – George Ezra. Ok so I read this Edelysithea ficwith this on repeat bc the title reminded me of it, and then I stuck it onrepeat because it worked too well and now.. im crying.. and i like the inflection of Lysithea’s bitterness over the titular lyric. (but also, it remains one of my steadfast edeleth songs.. sorry lys)
Secrets (Cellar Door) – Radical Face. Another Edelgard&/Lysitheasong!! I really like their relationship ok. And given the song itself can beread straight or an allegory for whatever you particularly want, but the storyis just too on the nose for me not to mention it here.(also general advocation of listening to the whole of radical face’s musicbecause I’ve loved it for years now & the work is beautiful.) (also it’swonderful for fe awakening projection. Or ur own.)
Oh Children – nick cave and the bad seeds. there’s a million different interpretations of this song, but to try nail a few onto Lysithea.. there’s the harry potter use of making/finding a light in the depths of tragedy & i love that for Lys. there’s the whole ‘the kids aren’t alright’ theme and it’s various depths. and i like narrative lyrics to plaster my large fictional-character-caused-emotions onto, so make of this one what you will.
Marianne (and Lysithea too if you like)Bad Blood – Radical Face. Ok so. This is one of my favourite songs in bloodyexistence, and it’s so loaded with meaning & it has a metric tonne of it. Icould wax lyrical about how much I love Radical Face’s work. I don’t want myinclusion of this song (specifically this one) to in any way devalue it. Butmusic is ofc incredibly subjective, and so is my reading of a lot of threehouses – in case it’s not bloody obvious by now. There’s a Lot of stories onecould take from Marianne’s character (and none of them are More Valid^tm thanany other), and I do see a very personal story in her – as I do in this song. Hgghhghive just spent 10 minutes trying to find an impersonal way to talk about twovery personal and relative stories, which naturally doesn’t work. That, and theway I read her story is Real Fucking Dicey for tumblr.com. so if this song is about accepting rejection because of parts of yourself so deep they’re in your blood, i think.. y’all can see.. where my neurodivergent gay self is going with this..
Byleth:Something to Believe In – Tom Walker. Yeah. You’re bloody welcome. If this isn’ta completely on the nose Byleth song, I’ll eat Dorothea’s hat.
Don’t Let the Man – Fatboy Slim. ~ And the sign said green-hairedpartially possessed emotionally void mercenaries need not apply for aprofessorship at the country’s most prestigious academic centre… ~
Emigrate - Novo Amor. this just fucking Got Me in the ‘actively choosing crimson flower’ feelings. im an emotional wreak but its aight. the lyrics just matched up too well for me to let it go !!!
Alps - Novo Amor. this hit me in the ‘i miss the gremlin child sothis’ feelings one day and now it’s permanently stuck that way.
Make Them Gold – chvrches. (this is very much associated with awakening’sfuture past kids and also the Carmilla series in my mind But!!) I love a story about‘if we’re all falling, we’re going down together’ and the magical power of teamwork, and how it brings out the best in people.. & that’s what this song& Byleth kinda bloody stand for ya know??
woooh.. oh my god . i need another cup of tea.

it's almost 2019! any chance of another best albums list this year?
per your request, my favorite 18 albums from 2018:
18. Chvrches - Love Is Dead
It’s weird.  It’s so weird.  I suppose they were due for a bit of a dud– by their standards, anyways– but it’s weird as shit to put them at the bottom of a favorites list.  And I was so excited!  I love Greg Kurstin!  But it just…didn’t work, not really.  There are some great songs, sure, because it’s Chvrches, dude, of course there are– Get Out is pure Every Open Eye-era bombast and delight– but if there’s any indication that as a rule the only people involved in a Chvrches album should be Cook, Doherty, and Mayberry, it’s the fact that one of the biggest flops on the whole album is the collaboration with Matt Berninger.  All of the pieces are there, the bones for good songs– as demonstrated by the acoustic EP of a selection of Love Is Dead songs they dropped a few months ago– but none of them fit together.
Favorite track: Graffiti is just barely edged by Get Out
17.  Robyn - Honey
Robyn is back and she pivoted a full 180 from the fembot offerings of the late-aughts into a completely human bodyslam of emotions.  The album starts out with an emotional punch to the face with Missing U and carries on from there, heavier and sadder than anything she’s done since Dancing On My Own.  It’s almost a disservice to her writing and her career over the years to say it’s the most mature she’s ever sounded, but at the very least it’s the most weathered album she’s ever presented.
Favorite track: Ever Again is sad and strong and shiny, everything you need to be when you’re healing.
16. Ariana Grande - Sweetener
It took me a while to get into this, to be honest: I probably hyped it up in my own head too much after no tears left to cry and god is a woman, to the point where I set Grande up to fail.  But after the first few months, the whole thing grew on me.  Ariana Grande is obviously one of the great voices in pop music today, undoubtedly, and she elevated her songwriting for this album.  It’s one of the most effective uses of guest spots I’ve ever seen– I normally cringe at even the concept of a Pharrell spot on an album, but blazed is legit as hell– and strips her vocals down to throw a middle finger at the idea that she’s just a big ballady voice.  This is a weird album that frankly doesn’t give a shit what anyone else thinks– look no further than R.E.M. or get well soon for proof– that’s peppered with pure pop delights like no tears left to cry and breathin.
Favorite track: goodnight n go.  I’m a snob about my Imogen Heap and generally don’t trust anyone to do justice to her work, but this is as excellent at honoring the source sample as it is to striking its own sound.
15. Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy
We all knew it was going to be good.  Like, there are inevitabilities in life, and the album surrounding Bodak Yellow being good was always one of them.  Invasion of Privacy doesn’t let up for a second, save maybe for the Migos collaboration because there’s not a lot Migos doesn’t drag down; regardless, it’s an end-to-end powerhouse.  Cardi B, questionable Instagram advertisements aside, is here to do work, and she’s doing it better than anyone else in the industry right now.
Favorite track: Get Up 10.  If there’s another song in the world better for propelling your ass out of bed to the gym at six in the morning when it’s raining, I’d like to hear it, because nothing else has ever come close.
14. St. Vincent - Masseducation
I’ve generally limited myself to only including actual albums on this list in the past– else last year probably would’ve been one by Charli XCX’s mixtape Pop 2– but the world it is a a-changin and so too is the music industry, so fuck my own puritanism.  This may be a one-and-done sloppily-recorded cover album of her own work from 2017, but fuck it all if it isn’t excellent.  It slows down every piece of powerhouse from MASSEDUCATION and drags the juxtapositions– the jangley circus-sound of Pills, the power ballad of Young Lover– into the daylight, breaking them down to a piano and a lyric, breaking them down to bare bones and abandoning all of the drum machines and synths the truly horrifyingly sad nature of the original album had been hiding behind.
Favorite track: doesn’t matter how it’s dressed up or dressed down, Sugarboy always wins.
13. Cher - Dancing Queen
Look man.  It’s Cher.  It’s Abba.  Try and @ me and see what happens.
Favorite track: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!  Don’t argue.  You know I’m right.
12. Soccer Mommy - Clean
I grew up in the nineties and garage rock was a huge part of my adolescence.  It mostly wasn’t good, but it was there.  Soccer Mommy– and a whole growing contingent of Gen Z-er girls with guitars who actually know how to play more than three chords– is making garage rock good.  This isn’t failed attempts at emulating Nirvana that devolve into bad shoegaze, this is precision and clear intent, deliberately smudged and distorted for effect.
Favorite track: Your Dog.  I’m a cliche, sure, but there isn’t enough time in the universe to cover all the ways in which this is the most glorious musical fuck you I’ve ever heard.
11. Florence and the Machine - High as Hope
Is it her best album?  Not really, nah.  Like Chvrches, is a not-great Florence album still better than most albums?  YEP.  Florence Welch is one of the true rockstars of the 21st century, eschewing any interest in genre or style to create music that fits the song, drifting further away from the outlandish percussive bombast of her first two albums to a more grounded, softer sound.  Not always– Patricia and Hunger aren’t pulling any punches, lyrically or sonically– but enough to temper the rougher edges into a more rounded, more mature sound as ready to apologize as it is to fight.
Favorite track: Grace apologizes for a lifetime of missteps, wary and tired and holding tight to forgiveness on the framework of an echoing piano line and blowing out into a rich, heavy conclusion carried on a powerful percussion line and you are the only thing I’ve ever had any faith in.
10. Half Waif - Lavender
Lavender is all dark rooms and scary shadows, oscillating wildly between densely packed and suddenly echoing and empty.  There’s no consistency to the sound or the structure, songs shifting and changing within themselves, tied together exclusively over Nadie Rose Plunkett’s voice, high and unaffected over everything else.  It’s a rich, compressed album, cramming enough lyricism and sound into 38 minutes for a full hour without ever feeling cramped or overpacked.
Favorite track: In the Evening is a sharp portrait of a failing relationship, wrapped in a gauzy, dreamy sound that builds and fades in turn, always on the edge of building without ever quite making it.
9. Bat Fangs - Bat Fangs
How much can you do in 25 minutes?  A lot, apparently, if you lean fully into the punk ethos and know how to use an electric guitar.  Bat Fangs has no room to breathe, no open spaces or pauses, no wasted landscape.  This is nineties punk at its finest, clocking in a generation later and at a higher caliber than anything I grew up with.
Favorite track: Boy of Summer is a brutally intentional 2018 screw-you to the ode to the manic pixie dream girl that we all know and admittedly still love.
8. Neko Case - Hell-On
There’s been a lot of talk in the last few years across the music industry about how genre lines are fading and music is crossing the existing boundaries of style and type, but Neko Case has been discarding style and type and genre for well over a decade now, ignoring every should of songwriting except for should support That Voice.  She writes without a single care for adhering to some arbitrary concept of how music can or should sound, as likely to write as close to a pop-banger as you’re going to get from someone who cut their teeth in indie and country as she is to drop an epic seven-minute power ballad that’s always toeing right up to the line of exploding but never does.
Favorite track: Bad Luck almost takes it specifically for that nonstop push and my heart could break for a one-legged seagull but still afford nothing to you, but Halls of Sarah and that ringing, bursting I call but there is only an echo from a recording machine wins out every time.
7. Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour
Literally everything from here on out was, like, a straight up seven-way tie for first place.  I nearly cried at having to make a choice, okay.  This was Very Hard.
Country is changing, and by changing I mean it’s making its way back to pre-2001 machismo and patriotism and gun waving: it’s returning to an I-do-what-I-want-and-fuck-you free for all that’s rightfully defined as a genre more by sound and intent than by a political litmus test standard set by the NRA and the GOP.  Kacey Musgraves is, in many ways, the scion of that return, starting with her queer-friendly and frustrated with small town red state Americana first album and continuing on in this third entry into her catalog: Golden Hour plays with style and genre by dragging country kicking and screaming into the 21st century with tinges of disco and pop, unconcerned with the arbitrary restrictions placed on country in the last twenty years.  Golden Hour is, at its heart and in true country form, a bombastic and widely relatable album that nonetheless was written about family and personal relationships.  Kacey Musgraves is here to save country from itself, and she’s going to do it.
Favorite track: High Horse wins out by just a hair over Slow Burn, even though I’m still not convinced because the latter has one of the greatest and most evocative, informative first lines in musical history (born in a hurry, always late/haven’t been early since ‘88).
6. Boygenius - Boygenius
Look.  Look.  Okay.  There are great songwriters everywhere, but three of the absolute best in the business right now– Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker– are all independently writing extraordinary, brutal, heartwrenching music.  And then they decided to make their own supergroup.  I hate the term supergroup, because it’s generally useless and almost always hypes up something that ends up being mediocre at best, but it exists for this exact situation.  Boygenius and their self-titled debut is an exquisite collection of songs that are ground down to base parts and built around little more than a vocal harmony and an emotion.  All three have truly distinct styles and sounds and songwriting tics, and yet they come together as something that, while not necessarily more than the sum of its parts, is regardless an unparalleled aggregation that’s both wholly distinct and also completely Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus.
Favorite track: absolutely, unequivocally Me and My Dog.  Ketchum ID is close, but nothing capitalizes on the truly particular and extraordinary way their voices work together as much as the second chorus and bridge in Me and My Dog does: Bridgers holds the lead the whole time but her voice blends in seamlessly with Dacus’s, while Baker’s holds separate and apart in the background right up until they all blend together in the last I dream about it/and I wake up falling.
5. Lucy Dacus - Historian
Music and how it’s consumed are changing, but there’s still a certain level of give-no-shits to opening your album with a six and a half minute breakup story.  Night Shift is a thesis statement for the rest of the album, not so much in content as in concept and the softer edges of Dacus’s voice.  The rest of Historian follows with the same sparse instrumentation that still builds and fills the space in an unexpectedly rich way, with the way her voice always sounds like an extension of the instrumentation more than a voice.  The album is filled with snapshots of moments in time, pieces of life that sometimes slip by unnoticed and sometimes burn themselves into memory forever, a lyrical triumph from start to finish.
Favorite track: Pillar of Truth, because I am weak looking at you/a pillar of truth/turned into dust.
4. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer
I feel like I’ve been waiting ten years for this album, since Janelle Monae first showed up at the tail end of my undergrad years with March of the Wolfmasters, but even I wasn’t ready for it.  From that first opening high note from Brian Wilson to the sermon wrapping up the end of the album with a no-holds-barred statement of purpose, I don’t think any of us– even after the first singles, from Make Me Feel to Pynk– were prepared for what a Janelle Monae with more money, more clout, and a political fuck-you soapbox to stand on was going to offer.  Dirty Computer is the most overt and clear statement album she’s ever made, moving from the complex sci-fi dystopia of the Cindi Mayweather universe to the more pressing, more immediate, more concrete arena of the current state of affairs in real life.  She covers everything from sixties beach-pop crooning through every decade since, hitting disco and soul and eighties pop along the way until landing on 21st century hip hop and the most impatient, frustrated, enraged entry of Django Jane. Janelle Monae’s always been a chameleon, but she’s never proved it so much as she does here.
Favorite track: Americans.  There’s political commentary all over the music industry right now, but none of it is either as catchy or as brutally, honestly critical.
3. Snail Mail - Lush
Remember that thing I waxed poetic about earlier, about how a bunch of Gen Z girls who actually know how to play more than two chords on a guitar are reinventing nineties garage rock?  No one is doing it better than Lindsey Jordan.  This is what teenage garage rock should sound like: queer and wildly emotional, oscillating between euphoria and heartbreak, and set to a rich, rounded guitar riff and a whole lot of cymbals in the background.
Favorite track: the way Full Control bursts out into the first chorus after holding and holding and holding just long enough that you thought it would never drop is a masterclass in building and releasing tension.
2. Christine and the Queens - Chris
Despite the fact that it’s only been three years since the first album, it felt like an outright eternity since there had been any new Christine and the Queens music, and then Girlfriend and Doesn’t Matter happened.  Chris is a statement on gender and sexuality set to a slick and unashamedly eighties mall-pop soundtrack.  Héloïse Letissier writes catchy, hooky music with a certain level of disinterest, the hooks an incidental consequence of the intent and the importance of the writing, and Chris picks up sonically where the 2015 self-titled debut left off, building on smooth, restrained synth-heavy instrumentation and growing it into something bolder and sharper.
Favorite track: What’s-her-face is almost what you would call a minute to breathe on an almost relentless album, but it’s a hold-your-breath-before-the-punch pause, heavy with tension that centers entirely on a basic snyth line the whole time, building and building in steps and pieces until it bursts.
1. Mitski - Be the Cowboy
I say that the top seven was basically all a tie, but let’s just be honest here: this was always going to win.  There wasn’t a single album all year that I listened to on straight repeat for days and days at a time except for this.  Mitski Miyawaki wrote an album that’s both pop and straight-up art school weird at the exact same time, balancing the rich and powerful bombast of Geyser with the full-on weird shit– I say with love– she made her name for in A Horse Named Cold Air.  Few people can shift gears the way Mistki can, shifting from something broad and beautiful and haunting like Pink in the Night to something stark and empty like A Horse Named Cold Air and then into jaunty and foot-stomping pop delight like Washing Machine Heart.  That three-song sequence could be surrounded by any amount of garbage and still elevate everything around it, but instead she surrounds it with an album filled to bursting with exquisite, evocative entries: Geyser blows up like its namesake; A Pearl strips itself down to nothing and lulls you into a false sense of restraint until it slaps you in the face with the chorus; Remember My Name stomps from right out of the gate and doesn’t let up the whole time, the whole song orbiting around I need something bigger than the sky in a dizzying rush; Two Slow Dancers echoes like a half-empty high school gym at the end of a ten reunion, hollow and lonely and resigned.  Mitski is unequivocally one of the most extraordinary songwriters in the business, not just currently but historically, and no one even had a chance of coming close to touching this album in 2018.
Favorite track: not even going to try.  I realized when I was writing this that I have the transitions so stuck in my head that I don’t even actually remember how half of the distinct songs start on their own.  It’s not an album to be listened to in pieces: right as the entire concept of the album is fading away, Mitski came and dropped one of the most incredible monuments to the concept of an album in history.

F, O, R, U, V?
F- favorite song? Ooof, a hard one right off the bat. It changes a lot because I’m not much of a “music person” but right now it’s probably something from Lizzo or Run the Jewels, althoiugh the Death Stranding song by CHVRCHES is pretty rad
O- one wish? To be a better person
R- reason to smile? My GF, our pets
U- 3 biggest wishes? Oh, so now I get three? Ok. 😂 To be able to make a living writing things that people enjoy, for my GF and I to be together and happy, that my daughter is always safe and happy
V- violent moment? I have a pretty bad temper when I’m angry but thankfully I’ve been able to control that more in the past few years. Thankfully I’ve never turned that anger against someone. I did, however, have a delightful moment when I was in high school and had gotten pushed too far by someone who’d bullied me for years and I just snapped, started swinging on him and managed to give him a black eye before we were separated (and before he could kick my ass). It was nice to see him walk around school with that shiner for a week or so and know that I gave it to him.
Thank you, miss 😄

Music Monday (1/28/19)
There was so much new and awesome music dropped this past week that I can’t wait to talk about. A shit ton of highly anticipated releases as well as some really exciting singles are here. So let’s not waste any more time and get right to it!
I Get No Joy by Jade Bird: My girl is dropping an album on April 19th, and I’m already counting down the days. This song has all the Jade Bird essentials: scathing lyrics, a catchy hook, guitar-driven instrumentals, and, of course, her wonderful, raspy voice. She released this song, Love Has All Been Done Before, and Uh Huh as a single, so I don’t know if they’ll show up on the album, but no matter what happens I’m sure it’ll be great.
Learn To Live by Alice Merton: Ever since hearing New Roots back last year, I knew that Alice Merton was one to watch, and if her debut album Mint did anything, it was prove that that intuition was correct. This track, the opener of the album, is like a Lash Out 2.0, with a falcon-punch chorus and a solid delivery from Merton.
Don’t Feel Like Crying by Sigrid: A NEW SIGRID SINGLE!!! This is the self love, moving on, post breakup song that will sweep you off your feet. It kind of reminds me of thank u, next in its lyrical content. The instrumentals on this track as so peppy, with bright synths, punchy horns, and sparkly percussion. Sigrid’s delivery is stellar as always, just brimming energy. While this song lacks some of the giddy joy and experimental quirkiness of Sucker Punch, this song is still great. What can I say, this song makes me feel so goddamn happy. I’ve heard it about 10008920580 times since it dropped on Thursday.
Silly Boy by Call Me Loop: Call Me Loop needs to catch on, I swear to god. This woman is so underrated, and I can really see her getting big with the Dua Lipa crowd. This song has got a tight groove to it, and an instrumental that is bubbly AF. Give this track a listen, give Love the Lie a listen, and get ready to fall in love.
arrow by half•alive: A new half•alive song? I’m fbucking shaking. This song is more laid back than still feel., but still has some groove to keep it interesting. I’m really loving Josh Taylor’s voice, too, it’s very unique. If you haven’t checked this band out yet, you’re really missing out, because I have a feeling they’re going to get huge, or at least gain a dedicated cult following. Also, the music video? These guys just keep on hitting it out of the park with their visuals, major props to them for that. We stan choreography kings, (especially at 3:21.)

youtube
Almost (Sweet Music) by Hozier: After five years a new album is coming, it’s called Wasteland, Baby! and it will be dropping in March! I can already tell that this year is going to be a menagerie of masterpieces. It appears that he’s going to be moving in a more pop-leaning direction from the sound of this single, and I really enjoy it. His voice is liquid velvet, and the background chorus and upbeat percussion come together to result in a track that’s just wonderful.
Monster by dodie: dodie goes... elecropop? Okay, she’s not full CHVRCHES or anything, (if I’m being honest, that’d probably slap, but no matter,) it’s just that the instrumental on this track is a lot less acoustic-driven than her previous work. dodie’s delivery, which can often cross into meek-ish territory, is full of sass and personality. The sharp, witty lyrics, chorus-like vocal layering on the bridge, and catchy melody make this an instant favorite from the new EP, Human, (which you should totally check out, by the way.)
Barefoot In The Park by James Blake ft. ROSALÍA: I’ve never heard of James Blake, (apparently he was on the Black Panther soundtrack?) but I totally stan ROSALÍA, so I had to check this collaboration out. James Blake’s deep, rich vocal timbre melds with ROSALÍA’s soaring upper register and tight vibrato perfectly. The instrumentals are simple, but engaging, incorporating some of ROSALÍA’s Latin roots with some echoing background vocals. This song is so peaceful, it feels like a lost lullaby from a jungle realm.
Back In My Body by Maggie Rogers: If you read my album review of Heard It In A Past Life, you’ll know just how hard this song hit me. I’d have to say that it’s my favorite song off the album. Something about it feels sacred, like I don’t even deserve to hear it, it’s just that beautiful. I’ve been trying not to play to too often because I can’t bear the thought of getting sick of this song. Give it a listen, I guarantee it’ll knock you clean off your feet.

Favorite Heard in 2018.
Same caveats, but even fewer.
There really weren’t any songs that everyone loved that I thought badly enough of to list as antis here. I will say that the Drake-ification of rap has had even worse effects that we thought it would, with mumblerap dominating everything. And there’s some notable absences on the lists, but those are definitely purposeful.
Honorable Mentions:
Troye Sivan - Blue Neighbourhood. Bloom was OK, but it took me to Blue Neighbourhood, which I had somehow missed. He’s amazing, I’m in love.
Black Panther Soundtrack. The Kendrick influence and brand is strong, but it’s really the more outlier-y style songs (like “Redemption”) that make this album as good as it is.
Alex Lahey - I Love You Like A Brother. This album actually came out last year, and it should have been on my list then and it wasn’t and I’ve spent a year embarrassed by that fact.
Billie Eilish - She didn’t actually release a new album this year, but all the singles were great and she’s a phenomenal talent.
Travis Scott - Astroworld. If this list would have been completed the month Astroworld came out, it might have been #1. But it lacks the sticking power to make something part of the truly good list. But he definitely made me a believer after spending time being at least partway a hater.
The Internet - Hive Mind. This album is good with a side of weirdness. Earl’s album is weird with (maybe?) a slice of goodness. And yet his album is ending up on a bunch of best of lists and Syd’s band isn’t. That’s wack. This one’s the winner if we’re comparing the two. But we don’t even need to do that. This one stands up all on its own.
Meek Mill - Championships. From the banging intro to the collab with Drake to “What’s Free” with Jay and Ross, this one goes hard. It’s a great Meek Mill album. You know exactly what you’re getting.
Pusha T - Daytona. Better than all the other rap albums on this list, almost made the real list. He’s so good at what he does, and “If You Know You Know” is one of the best openers of all time.
Tierra Whack - Whack World. If you haven’t heard this album, you should be ashamed. It’s only 15 minutes. Go listen! Then appreciate it and listen to it again. It’s great. She’s gonna do amazing things.
Jeff Tweedy - Warm. I’ve been thinking about Jeff Tweedy and Wilco a lot this year, maybe because I read the book Learning How to Die. And I know this isn’t a Wilco album, so I know it’s apples to oranges. But I can’t shake this thought, regardless. I’m not sure there’s another band we have whose “universally acclaimed ‘best’ album” is almost certainly NOT their “best” album? I mean, post-YHF Wilco is super different. They stopped trying to be that band, but between Sky Blue Sky and A Ghost is Born and now this solo record, I’m pretty sure those albums (and this one, which I know isn’t a Wilco album) are actually better? It’s just really, really, really good.
boygenius - boygenius. The best thing about this EP is that all the songs are solid and some are lifetime best material. The worst thing is that we’ll probably never get this collaboration again.
Beach House - 7. Shockingly good after their odd turns on the last couple. I’m not ready to have complete faith in them just yet, but I’m glad they’re coming back around.
Snail Mail - Lush. Solidly good, almost to great territory. Soccer Mommy got all the love, but I think this album is actually better?
Charli XCX - Pop 2. It’s good. She deserves more credit than she gets, and she already gets a lot.
Soccer Mommy - Clean. Not as good as the near-universal critical acclaim, but still a very strong album.
Cat Power - Wanderer. That cover of “Stay” is incredible all on its own, but the album really holds up on its own merits too. I can’t believe she’s still making music this good.
Chvrches - Love is Dead. It took me a couple listens to actually think it was good, but it is. It’s a side step from their last 2, which I don’t love, but I’m happy they’re doing what they want to do.
Buddy - Harlon & Alondra. Remember when he was next up and had an awesome voice? It seemed like his potential was gonna go untapped, but this album shows it’s not dead yet. It’s not quite Best material, but it was unfairly slept on.
Best Songs:
"Backpack” - Alex Lahey. Same comment as her album. I know this came out last year. But I’ve spent a year being embarrassed by forgetting it, and she deserves a spot.
"Thank U, Next” - Ariana Grande. Sweetener wasn’t bad, but this was way better. It took Mac dying, her concert tragedy, and breaking up with Pete to get the best Ariana we’ve ever had.
“DJs Gotta Dance More” - A Trak. This is the type of song that I could listen to non-stop for the rest of my life and be perfectly content.
“Missing U” - Robyn. She’s a queen. What do we expect? It’s solid gold.
Dirty Computer Quartet - From the start of “Screwed” until the end of “Make Me Feel” Janelle Monae has my heart for all time. It doesn’t get much better.
9. “Nice For What” - Drake. He’s fine. The best thing about this song is the Lauryn Hill. But it’s catchy as hell.
8. “Apeshit” - The Carters. It’s been a long time since my jaw dropped on a consistent basis listening to Jay. I’m happy it’s happening more, and even more with his wife outrapping him.
7. “Havana” - Camila Cabello. Earworm.
6. “Lemonade” - NERD. The Vampire King returns, recruits Rihanna to rap, and it sounds so good.
5. “Shallow” - Lady Gaga. I honestly haven’t even seen the movie yet, but this song is almost perfectly crafted. It sounds like it could have come out of any classic era. It does exactly what it aims to do.
4. “Look Alive” - Blocboy JB. I don’t really even want to talk about how good this song is. It bugs me how good it is.
3. “I Like It” - Cardi B. The album wasn’t bad, but she literally could have released just this song, and it probably would have sold just as many copies as the album did. The perfect song for driving during summer with your windows down.
2. “The Story of Adidon” - Pusha T. My favorite song of the year. It taught the kids about real rap beef. From the cover art to the line about 40, it was shocking. Did he go too far? Yes. Do I think he shouldn’t have? No. Too bad the kids all ignored it and still rock with the Canadian.
1. “Girls Like You” - Maroon 5. The most perfect pop song of the year. It sounds like it was cooked up in a magical song laboratory, and I don’t mind that at all.
Best Albums:
7. Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour. This album goooooeeeesssss in. She sings about all the typical things you’d expect from a country album, and then changes directions, too.
6. Mac Miller - Swimming. We can’t ignore the fact that his death almost certainly affected the placement of this album. But even if he was still with us, Mac was progressing and growing, just like he has with every single album, and this would have been a serious contender. I still can’t listen to it without crying.
5. The Carters - Love is Everything. Continuing the trend of old people being able to rap and do it well is an important reason this album gets to be this high. Also, it puts on fitting cap on the Lemonade/4:44/Love Trilogy.
4. YG - Still Dangerous. It’s crazy how shit falls off when you don’t have a press-baiting single like “FDT” but YG is still making crazy good music. This album is not as good as the last 2, but it’s still super important to have an older perspective out there, representing for Cali G Funk in 2018.
3. Vince Staples - FM! I will never forget where I was when I heard this album for the first time, and that’s an increasingly rare thing. In a time when there’s plenty of weirdo kids who are really good rappers, with the amount of praise that Vince gets, it’s still a possibility that he’s UNDERrated. He’s a voice we need, and this album is a perfect little piece that he created to share that voice. Everything he’s done has been great, and this is no exception.
2. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer. Give me all Janelle everything. This album could easily have been #1. Every part of it feels purposefully thought out and well executed. The video version was great, the singles are all bangers, the lyrics are necessary, and the themes are pushing all the right buttons.
1. Camp Cope - How to Socialise & Make Friends. I knew from the moment that I listened to this album that it was going to be my #1 in December. The fact that I’m still writing that in December, when the album dropped in March, is a testament to its staying power. From “The Opener” to the very last track, there’s not a moment of let up. These kids are super promising, and they have already done something phenomenal. I cannot wait to see what comes next for them.

How tall are you? 5′6′’
What color are your eyes? blue (with hints of green)
Do you wear glasses/contacts? nope
Do you wear Braces? when i was 11-13. i also have a permanent brace on the inside of my bottom front teeth
Whats your fashion style? im a goth boy/girl piece of shit so... black and lace and fishnets and velvet and w/e, ya know?? but also every variation of goth you can think of, i have an outfit for - 90′s goth, pastel goth, gothic lolita, casual goth, etc., it’s a work in progress...
When were you born? a long, long time ago in a distant land (chicago, 1995)
Do you have siblings? i have two older brothers and an older sister, who are 37, 35, and 25 respectively
What kind of student were/are you? i mean i always got straight A’s, and i was a total teacher’s pet/overachiever. when i was younger i was in every club i could think of - student council, book club, show choir, etc. high school i spent mostly in the hospital, so there’s that... but ive been in college for a few years now and i’ve only ever gotten 1 B alongside my many A’s, which is nice. not that school really has anything to do with intelligence, but i consider myself a well-read person at the very least
What were/are your favorite subjects? english/writing, history, and now anthropology
Favorite movies? alien, jurassic park, star wars, interview with the vampire, kill bill, the lotr movies, etc.

What’s your dream job? i’m studying archaeology currently (i just changed my major...), and i plan to teach it, but my REAL dream is to be an author, which, considering how much i write, seems pretty plausible. also i think i’d make a pretty sick comedian ;)))
Would you like to get married? i dont believe in marriage. marriage is an institution, marriage is like slavery.... and in this day and age its pointless if not for the tax breaks it affords you. so, no.
Do you want kids? not really, i’m a very selfish person with little to no patience for raising a child. maybe i’ll change my mind in the distant future, but currently i’d rather dig out my own reproductive organs through my bellybutton with a spoon, thanks very much
How many countries have you visited? i’ve never left the USA, but i’ve been all over the country. my mom loves to travel and has been taking me on trips since i was an infant.
Scariest dream? i used to have a lot of reoccuring nightmares about school - usually that i’d be lost in the building and miss class, or that i couldnt find a way out and was trapped inside. but since college those dreams have kind of dissipated, and now i often dream of moving into a big, haunted mansion of sorts. but those aren’t usually nightmares, just interesting manifestations of my every day stress and fear of change.
but in october of 2017 i had a really vivid, really disturbing dream in which i died and went to purgatory, which took the form of a small community of people being hunted by “monsters.” it was so detailed and lovecraftian that i wrote the whole thing down as soon as i woke up and decided to make a novel out of it. (this isn’t really important, but i also want to mention that in the dream i wasn’t myself, i was louis... and lestat was there, which was weird, but i omitted that part for the sake of making it an original story)
Significant other? /looks into a mirror, “hey babe”

My Musical Mind: 200th Edition (Series Finale)
I did my first one of these on January 10th, 2011. Since then, I’ve blogged a total of 5,187 songs. My final edition (in this format - I’m working on something new) features music from Carly Rae Jepsen, BTS, Mark Ronson, Camila Cabello, Hot Chip, Charli XCX, Madeon, Haley Reinhart, Aly & AJ, Electric Youth and loads more. And so, for the last time (for now)…
Welcome to my musical mind. Where fifties swing meets noughties electronica. Where blues, rock, latin, funk, hip-hop, pop, country, jazz and southern fried soul will all be given a workout. Eclectic is the watch word. Embrace the chaos kids.
