You knew Chuuya put up a front. He’d puff out his chest in the midst of enemies when he was with you in public and sneer at them if they made the wrong move, threatening to pull his gun on them. You watched him as his ego soared outside, at the bar with his Mafia members, yours boosting as well when it came to the night. Because you knew who he really was, seen that vulnerable side of him; behind closed doors, that man was begging on his knees in the middle of the room like the whore that he was.
When he wasn’t out shielding his face with a stereotypical mask, he was stuck underneath your heel, nearly kissing the floor as you demanded the most of him. He worshipped you like a goddess, as if the straps of Greek mythology held you hostage and brought you to him. A deity of some sort, higher than the clouds that held Mount Olympus, he begged for his Aphrodite. Begged for her– you to touch him, his cock dripping against the fluffy carpet it hovered over.
He’d whine as you stood over him, harshly pushing his face and his greedy tongue into the swell of your cunt. He’d lap up your wetness eagerly, the mess of it sticking to his face and damn near almost drowns in it. And while he’s doing that, he’d whimper into you, ‘please and thank yous’ with ‘fuck, mommy’ barely coming out as you grinded against his mouth. By the end of it, you would be cumming in waves on his face and a new carpet would be the first thing on your mind because Chuuya had busted all over it halfway through eating you out.
And some days, your boy would call his own mama, his voice cracking a few times as you worked your pink tongue around his thick cock. The hand that wasn’t preoccupied with his phone would fly to your hair as you swallowed around him, saliva dribbling from the corners of your mouth and down his cock. Chuuya would babble on and on about nonsense, barely able to concentrate when you were sucking the soul out of him. He'd lose his train of thought, his sentence trailing off, and you’d listen to his mother scold him over the phone for losing his place in his over-elaborated story.
He’d have to call her back though to apologize as he’d hang up without so much as a goodbye teetering from his lips, his entire mind foggy from the pleasure you instilled in him. Whines would leak from his mouth in hushed intervals, ‘fuck, right there, please, keep going…’ and he’d push your head down further, making you choke and gag on his cock, thrusting up into the tight heat of your mouth. Chuuya isn’t particularly forceful, he could never do that to you, to his mommy, and he’d shoot his load down your throat, right then and there as he thought about what you could do to him when he eventually scolded you about the phone call bit. But he wouldn’t be mean about it, of course.
He was a mama’s boy, through and through.

Cell Block Tango [BSD]
Tumblr media
YN is sick of listening to Dazai’s and Fyodor’s prison mind games. Locked away underground, she yearns for a distraction and decides that it’s time for a special game of her own. But can she keep control while playing against not one but two demons…
Rating: 18+, NSFW
3.5K words
a/n: Spoiler alert for anime fans but if you are up to date with manga translations then it’s nothing new. For the sake of this fic we are gonna pretend that the prison suits are two pieces rather than the jumpsuit. We are also sticking to the manga version of the prison, not the hamster balls :p
Tumblr media
There was a dull throb at the back of her skull and she was pretty sure she was about to have an aneurysm. That or she was finally going insane. It had been bad enough that she was stuck in Meursault; but being trapped in a box between two maniacs made her mind spin.
How she got in this mess, YN wasn’t entirely sure, but she was willing to bet Chuuya’s entire wine collection that it had to do with one of Dazai’s little schemes. She had hoped to never find herself again playing pawn to the former Executive once he disappeared from the Port Mafia.
Apparently, that was just wishful thinking.
The Demon Prodigy of the Port Mafia and the Demon Fyodor faced off in front of her. Sitting in ridiculous plexiglass cells like Hannibal Lector; and she had been graced with the misfortune of being stuck next to both, completing their little block in the shape of a U.
She had tried, when she first arrived, to question the males; an attempt at getting some idea why she had to be thrown in here. To no avail.
At some point, boredom pushed her to start a guessing game between the two of them to see who could recognize songs as she hummed the tune.
Dazai was up to date with the most current pop songs and seemingly a fan of country music. Fyodor was calling out titles before she even got to the second note of anything remotely classical or rap related.
She wasn’t sure if he called out the latter so quickly because he enjoyed the songs or he just didn’t want to hear them.
Once the conversations evolved to apparent mind reading, she left them to their devices. For all she knew they were absolutely bullshitting and toying with her mind as a form of entertainment.
She wouldn’t put it past them.
How long had they been going at it? Was it days? Weeks? It was so hard to tell in this place, though she had no doubt her two prison mates would know.
She craved stimulation, a new book, real music, or a conversation with a normal person. Hell, she was ready to attack a guard for a change of pace. Though they rarely came around save to drop off food and when they did, they remained silent and out of reach.
No doubt a stipulation to prevent any secretive communication to the outside world.
"97,462."
"4,475."
YN groaned, slamming her pillow over her face to drown out the ceaseless stream of numbers. It would put her out of her misery, if she suffocated herself with the pillow. Better yet, would be to suffocate the two of them.
She giggled into the fluff, building the scenario in her mind but frowned when her imagination came to Dazai.
The suicidal maniac would probably enjoy it.
"Uhg," with a huff, she dragged the pillow down from her face and onto her chest.
Her breath stuttered. A delicious jolt shot down her spine at the feel of the pillow brushing over her clothed nipples.
Were the prison uniforms that thin?
She tugged the pillow down another inch and her toes curled at the friction. She chanced a glance towards her cell block mates, still locked in their staring death match and spouting off numbers at a rapid pace.
Maybe they wouldn't notice. Or maybe she wanted them to, her face flushed at the thought.
Maybe she really was going insane.
Either way, it would be a much needed distraction and if it threw those two off their game while working off some frustration, even better.
Decision made, she returned her pillow behind her head and settled against the sheets. As a test she brushed her thumbnail over a nipple and keened.
Fuck, that felt good.
She slipped a hand under her top to cup her breast, gently squeezing, and groaned. Her other hand traveled down to rub over the clothed apex of her thighs.
Once.
Twice.
Three times, just to feel the delicious friction.
She moved to tug on the band of her pants.
"What do we have here?" "What do you think you're doing?"
Her body froze at the overlapping voices. Caught, like a deer facing off with two wolves.
She flicked her eyes first to Dazai then across to Fyodor. The duo had their gaze burning into her. She could only imagine her appearance to them. One hand hidden beneath her shirt with the other poised to slip beneath the fabric of her pants.
"I-i,” she paused.
Honesty was out of the question, there was no way she was going to tell them that she was so bored that she accidentally made herself horny with the idea of them watching her masturbate.
A half-truth then, just enough to placate them.
She cleared her throat before speaking again, “While your little numbers game has been stimulating. I crave a more carnal distraction.”
Not breaking eye contact with the Russian, she slid her hand into her bottoms. YN bit her lip to keep from moaning when her fingertips brushed against her clit.
Was the base of his neck turning red or was that a trick of the prison lights?
"Tell me, Bella," her eyes darted to Dazai, "who brought about these carnal desires?"
Neither of them.
She hadn't been thinking of anything but the sweetness of release.
Lies.
Both men were at the forefront of her mind. It was no secret that the two of them were quite handsome in their own aggravating way. It wouldn’t be the first time she had thought about-
Annoyed, she huffed out a quick, "The both of you seem to be skilled at guessing games, why don’t you figure it out?”
She knew she made a mistake when his eyes darkened.
Holding her gaze, Dazai spoke to his rival. "Shall we find out which one of us makes her pant like a common whore?"
Heat rushed to her face.
"Seems a pointless competition when we already know who it is."
Dazai’s eyes cut to Fyodor and she felt the tension settle around the three of them.
Taking advantage of their distraction, she took the time to take in the two figures. Dazai had a prominent tent in his pants. While Fyodor sported a large bulge; his very real flush had darkened at his neck, she wondered how far down his chest the color spread.
It was intoxicating.
The idea of these two men arguing and turned on because of her. She felt a rush of wetness at her entrance, slipped a finger in, and moaned.
She didn't notice when she became the focus of their attention again or that Dazai had pulled his cock from his pants. Nor did she notice how Fyodor tugged his bottoms down mid-thigh and started rubbing at his own.
She was lost to the brush of her finger against her inner walls until Fyodor cut through the haze with his words.
"Myshka, look at me."
She looked up to Fyodor and sucked in a breath. He leaned back on his bed with one hand, the other working around his cock. From what she could see, the tip was the same pretty red color and smeared in precum.
Dazai had stood, now leaning against the corner of his cell, fully facing her. She had a clearer view of his cock and could see his fingers run across the prominent vein underneath.
He looked delicious and she clenched at the view. She wanted to wrap her lips around the head and swallow him down till she felt him at the back of her throat.
As if reading her mind, Dazai smirked. He picked up the pace of his hand when a small sigh fell from her lips.
"Do you imagine my fingers replacing yours? Reaching places you can only dream of?" She whined, eyes closing to get lost in the scene.
Yes, she wanted it.
"She would prefer my tongue working her open, tasting her until she screams."
"F-fuck," she stuttered at Fyodor's words, curling her finger and imagining his tongue in her.
She couldn't decide which scenario she liked better, riding his face until her body gave out or seeing Fyodor below her, worshiping her cunt from his knees.
Dazai clicked his tongue, “It would take more than your slimy appendage to ready her for me. Don’t you think Bella?”
He tapped his tip against the plexiglass. “Let’s see how well you prepare for me. Add another finger.”
Shimming off her bottoms, she kicked them to the floor of her cell. Following his instructions, she slipped in a second finger. It was tight and she knew it wouldn’t be enough to let him in.
Breathlessly, she began scissoring her fingers, stretching herself.
The feeling was glorious.
She wondered how he would feel, hot and heavy inside her. She’d be lying if she said she never thought of it, of him taking her against the wall at headquarters. It made her whimper, adding in a third finger.
The action wasn’t lost on her audience.
“So desperate for my cock that you can’t even wait for directions. How impatient of you.”
Muffled profanity slipped from Fyodor’s lips as she raised her shirt to her collar, exposing her breasts, to pull at her nipple.
She couldn’t hear their harsh breaths, but she could see them falling apart. Dazai’s forehead fell against the wall, his hips thrusting forward to fuck into his hand.
Fyodor had leaned forward over his legs, one hand still working his cock while the other fondled his balls.
They continued talking, feeding off each other and the display of her body before them. Speaking into existence all the sordid little fantasies she kept tucked away in the back of her mind.
She would have thought they really did have the ability to read minds if they hadn’t spoken of other darker desires. Words that sat heavy in her core and pushed her that much closer to the edge.
She had never seen either man look so disheveled; and she had never wanted anything more than to be in the same cell as them. To hear and feel their words across her skin as they pounded into her.
“N-nhg” Her teeth clamped down on her lip to prevent the syllables from escaping, a name hanging on the tip of her tongue.
She hissed at the pain but was thankful for it.
When did she start to lose control?
There was no way she was going to give into their twisted antics. She would not say either of their names. No matter how badly she wanted to give in.
She struggled to muffle another moan, pleasure building at her center. A thought drifted across her mind, maybe she could tip things back into her favor.
If they wanted her to call out a name, she would.
It would have to be someone they both knew. Someone who would affect both men.
Someone like- oh.
Like him.
She teetered on the edge, palm grinding against her clit-
“Come for me,” they uttered at the same time.
-and she free fell into oblivion.
“Ah-h-Ango!” she cried out, eyes rolling back as her back arched off the mattress.
Her thighs trapped her wrist while her walls fluttered around her fingers; barely registering the sputtered choke and subsequent snarl in the background.
She collapsed to her mattress, liquid and loose, and took several deep calming breaths then turned towards her audience.
Dazai’s cum dripped down from where it splattered against the plexiglass, he looked pained. His hand next to his head in a fist.
A quick glance to Fyodor revealed his hands were covered in his release, a displeased look on his face as he watched her.
Pulling her fingers from her core, she made a dramatic show of slurping and sucking the digits clean, tugged her shirt down, and turned her back on the two.
With a flip of her middle finger towards the demonic duo, she pulled the blanket over her body and settled in to sleep.

BONUS:
There is a saying, that if looks could kill...
Ango had never understood those words more than in that moment.
He felt the crushing glare from the two demons on the monitors as if they were in the same room as him. Suddenly, he was very glad to have them locked away.
All the wall monitors of the intelligence room were focused on the three cells, as they had been, since the moment the prisoners had taken their first steps into Meursault.
Sure, he had expected to witness some private moments but to witness that and for YN to call out his name at the end.
There were alarm bells going off in the back of his mind but it didn’t matter. He never dared to dream that she could- that she would-
His pants felt tight, uncomfortably tight.
Ango could feel the burn of all the eyes in the room, pointedly not looking in his direction.
The triple agent’s face was in flames, a hand covered the bottom half of his face. Trying and failing to maintain a sense of normalcy after the show.
And what a show it was.
The servers would have to be wiped. It could complicate things if he was implicated in whatever Dazai had planned.
Yes, they would have to be wiped.
But Ango wouldn’t put it past his former friend to have a secret message slipped in. Dazai’s heart rate would need to be compared to the video and decoded. Just in case.
Ango would have to take a copy of the video home to thoroughly examine it.
Tumblr media
Fun Fact: Ango was the one to arrest YN. Babygirl knew what she was doing when she fed him to the wolves 💅

There are some posts I've seen floating around that at the start Dazai may not of known that Chuuya wasn't a vampire which I kind of agree with. I'm at work currently so I cant double check but when he goes "that's a nasty trick you've pulled fydor" im pretty sure its in his thoughts?? To which why would he think that if he knew the whole time. I think dazai must of caught onto the fact Chuuya was faking it at somepoint but not sure when that would of been. Also at the end of the ep Dazai said he didn't have a plan. (I did watch the episode at just after 2am my time when it came out and then fell asleep afterwards so my memory could be not correct). I do think chuuya not being a vampire at all is a little disappointing tbh but this idea softens the blow. Would like to know your thoughts on this idea if you are open to sharing?
I'm in that category too, yes. I've left a few tags saying basically the same thing on some posts.
First, there are a few things the anime didn't answer (more than failing to justify Chuuya faking it since the start, there's Sigma's case about needing to help the ADA, which... didn't happen at all) so either we haven't seen the repercussions of this arc yet, or we got the shortened version of what the manga will offer. Which could work either way. (not ideal necessarily, but besides huffing what can we do huh)
Dazai not knowing though! Dazai did admit to his "plan" being to mostly adapt on the fly and trust his allies to help him back. He implied this prison break was one big trust fall. But that's how I've always interpreted Dazai's way of planning! I even made a post about it a full year ago!
Since Dazai knows Chuuya slowed down the elevator (which I can accept, Dazai's ability shouldn't affect random objects he touches, and Fyodor had told Chuuya through a comm to go finish off Dazai because he wasn't in the room), I assume that by then he was aware. Maybe not before though. Definitely not at first. Because this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I refuse to believe was entirely scripted. Why is he acting? For Sigma? For corpses? I'm of the opinion that no matter what is going on through Dazai's head, his expressions are always genuine (ex: he might react with surprise at something he completely expected, if only because of how sudden it was, or when/how it ended up happening. Here? genuine distress.)
And I extend that feeling to Dazai having an emotional moment, complete with flashbacks, while "drowning" Fyodor and Chuuya. He did say he wasn't expecting to kill them that way, but perhaps it really was a moment of weakness triggered by concern or guilt.
I can accept Dazai having caught on during his face-off with Chuuya. That's Mr I-know-your-breathing-patterns we have here, so if they didn't high-five after the elevator crash-landing (still broke Dazai's leg), I would say Dazai knows physics enough to go "hold on" and connect the dots. So yes, that baiting of Chuuya, the light taunting, the bratty attitude he only really has with Chuuya, the angry YELLING and insults when Chuuya shot him in the shoulder? The destiny talk? Yeah I can re-contextualize those as Dazai over-acting his part. And then not being able to shut up after being shot in the head.
Maybe there's some reaching here, maybe this will not be totally accurate to the source material. But Asagiri does have a habit to write scenes from an outsider pov while knowing whats happening in the characters' heads and behind the scene, but then not give us that input directly. Never before today was it confirmed that Dazai improvises a lot in his plans. And yet! That's something I've believed in for a very long time.
This all could very well be covering Asagiri's poor decisions, but between this being the adaptation and bsd being an unfinished story, I have a hard time deciding at the moment how much of a poor decision this was. Maybe it's worth a raised eyebrow. Maybe it deserves some criticism in hope the author takes notes. Maybe this was an anime-original resolution due to time constraints (think of the Fifteen final fight). I can only raise concerns for now, and wait.

Dazai played a role in the deaths of the Flags
SKL I'm kinda feeling low rn but I'm going to write this anyways. (cause at least maybe it might make me feel better to do something interesting TT). ANYWAYS.
some time ago, I came across a discussion in another platform about whether or not Dazai 'killed' the flags or had a role in doing so. and a lot of people were saying that Dazai is innocent of that?? I personally disagree and here's why.
"Everything. Verlaine's targets, the detective, the researcher - it was all based on the information I gave Verlaine. In other words, the system he used to assassinate people was my system too (. . .) I did it to buy time before Verlaine reached his final target. His final target is Ougai Mori, the Port Mafia boss. Normally, he would've been the first to be assassinated but after manipulating the intel a bit, I got him placed last in line. And thanks to the time I bought, I'm ready to assassinate Verlaine instead. Just need to make a few final touches (. . .)"
--- Dazai, Stormbringer
I think this quote can explain itself. But to break it down a bit, Mori was originally Verlaine's FIRST target. However, Dazai manipulated information so that it would change and Mori would be last. As Dazai says, "the system he used to assassinate people was my system too" -- and who did Verlaine target first instead of Mori? The Flags.
Dazai 100% knew what he was doing.
He's also the one who brought Chuuya to the Flags when Chuuya passed out and interestingly, prior to this, he must have known/seen Albatross still alive, still grasping for air - and did nothing about it. Except bring Chuuya there, likely hours later.
The Flags, Detective Murase, Chuuya's torture - Dazai is responsible for this.
A common occurrence with Dazai's character is his manipulation and passivity when it comes to ensuring the best outcome. He is willing to let bad things happen to people as long as it best serves his goals. Before I mention the more known things, I'd like to say that Dazai is like Ranpo in that they can both see through things. Dazai knew about the secret government facilities torturing children for skill research and used it as a part of his plan. How many times do you think Dazai saw suffering and actively chose to ignore it or utilize it to his advantage?
He does this multiple times through-out the series:
He lets Atsushi, Tanizaki and Naomi be lured in a trap, despite knowing that Higuchi was a mafiosi all along
He provokes Akutagawa's unhealthy obsession to get him to do things and even SMILES knowing this (manga: chapter 84) despite the fact that Aku literally has a terminal illness. Aku tells Atsushi that he can't bear to disappoint Dazai before he dies (chapter 87) - and Dazai fully takes advantage of this
Kunikida and Sasaki (Dazai's Entrance Exam LN)
and maybe some other stuff that I haven't mentioned
One big flaw Dazai has is that he doesn't trust people beyond the expectations he has for them. He doesn't share his plans and takes everything on by himself, planning ahead, using selective honesty and using those around him as pawns rather than team mates - even if his intentions are good.
An exception to this is when he fights as Double Black because he absolutely does trust Chuuya enough to share his plans and depend on him. But outside of these missions - Dazai's manipulative and control freak tendencies are still strong and standing.
Think of the current situation. Chuuya's a vampire. No matter how you look at it, Dazai's the one calling the shots. He's going to save Chuuya.
But it would be rather boring if everything went Dazai's way, don't you think? In Dead Apple, everything went his way and Chuuya saved him, just as he expected.
But this time, I want Chuuya to have a say in the grand scheme of things. How does he feel about being drowned by Dazai? How does he feel about Dazai in general - about his manipulation? Does he not feel used at times? Does he even know Dazai had a role in the Flags' demise?
A big big flaw of Dazai is his tendency to go full on chess-player mode and do things his way without regard or consultation from others -- and currently, I think one of - if not the best character to potentially call him out is none other than his ex-partner/childhood frenemy/person he's worked with the most, Chuuya Nakahara.
Thanks for reading <3.
(** extra notes that's lowkey unrelated but I want to mention it anyway cause I'm too lazy to make another post **)
it's funny how many people Dazai has callously let die or suffer for the sake of his plans/the optimal solution and yet when it happens to him (Mori -> Oda Sakunosuke), he is absolutely devastated. Maybe poetic justice in a sense (jk, I'm sorry Oda TT). I honestly want to see more emotional Dazai coming up in the future tho <3
I want Atsushi to stop viewing Dazai with rose-colored lenses and actually see the damage Dazai's caused Akutagawa
Also the part about Ranpo and Dazai being able to see through things like hidden evil that no one else can - this was actually inspired by a post from @dazailover420 about Ranpo's personality and how it's actually a coping facade to hide the pain from the things he sees daily (a pretty sad theory tbh). link to that is over here:

thanks for reading and adieu ✨

hi! fellow fyozai enjoyer, I saw your post about fyozai and how you disliked the finale, and I have thoughts about how I actually loved the finale for fyozai (I mean this /lh, it’s fully my opinion)
the basis of it is what Dazai tells Fyodor, and a theory I saw around chapter 101-ish of the manga.
Dazai tells Fyodor: “you don’t trust anything you can’t manipulate”
and the theory I saw had it’s basis centered around the fact that Chuuya was a wildcard for both Dazai and Fyodor. now, chapter 101, the fandom’s assumptions were a) Chuuya is actually a vampire, and b) Dazai just tried to kill Chuuya via drowning
the theory basically said, SKK have a strong bond right? an extremely popular theory around that time was that Dazai was trying to drag Chuuya out of the vampirism via his speech, possibly coded, and the water and drowning. so the theory said that what if Dazai was trying to use their bond, and Chuuya’s own willpower, to drag Chuuya out of vampirism and have him be an element of surprise against Fyodor - e.g. Chuuya is pulled out, recognizes Dazai’s plan, and plays along to eventually betray Fyodor, being the closest to him physically, and because Fyodor is already convinced of his control of Chuuya.
essentially, Dazai relies on his bond with Chuuya, his ally and human nature, while Fyodor is so focused on control that he is caught off guard because of Chuuya’s willpower
which is what happens in canon, sort of - Dazai relies on his allies and human nature, while Fyodor is so certain of his plan (he says it himself- his plan is perfect) that he doesn’t question Chuuya’s vampirism. he is so convinced that the vampirism is absolute that why would he need to check?
and then Dazai wins. and he tells Fyodor, “you don’t trust anything you can’t manipulate”
Dazai doesn’t either, or he didn’t, and here’s where I love the ending so much and what it means for fyozai - neither of them trust what they can’t manipulate. but Dazai did, has been doing since he joined the Agency, and that’s how he won - he grew out of this belief that Fyodor still currently has, also aligning with their fundamental differences in one belief, the value of human life + experiences
anyway. that’s my opinion on why I actually love the ending sm and don’t understand why so many people hate it. “how did Fyodor not notice Chuuya put on a Halloween costume” that’s the POINT - it highlights fyozai’s fundamental difference in belief, Dazai’s growth, how Dazai has pushed past that blockage that Fyodor still has and which is why he lost, ALSO highlighting how they are the same person expressed differently in one root belief. which makes them even CRUNCHIER in my opinion
ty for reading, you’re so correct that not enough people enjoy fyozai 😔✌️(and if any of this came off harsh please know I don’t mean it to be 😭)
Hi, fellow fyozai enjoyer! Thank you for sharing your perspective on the finale! I love hearing other people's opinions, so I appreciate you throwing your two cents in. And no worries, none of that came off harsh. 😆 I'm about to rant here, so I hope I don't come off as harsh!
I think you're spot on in what Asagiri/the anime writers were going for. However, there are several fundamental problems I have with it, from a character perspective and from a storytelling perspective. My issues with the finale really don't have anything to do with fyozai; my issues are with the writing, especially the writing of Fyodor's character. Because the thing is, it makes sense in theory, but it doesn't work the way they did it.
In theory, it makes perfect sense that Dazai "won" because he trusts his allies and Fyodor does not. It's even set up in these scenes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the first, Dazai and Fyodor are (quite hilariously) telling each other how they manipulate others. Dazai acts the fool, pretends to be lazy and unengaged so his "workers" have to step up and do something themselves. That's how he plays puppet master behind the scenes. Fyodor takes control of his pawns by leaving them no choice. That's how he plays puppet master behind the scenes. Dazai's method requires a lot less control and a lot more trust.
In the second, Dazai is saying that the world is chaotic and all of their "ingenious plans" don't amount to much (except when it's Dazai's "ingenious plan" to dress Chuuya up in a Halloween costume!), challenging Fyodor's idea that he can impose his own order on the world (which is exactly what Fyodor is trying to do, though he can't see that - he isn't doing God's will, he's only doing his own; the order he is trying to impose upon the world by using the Book is not God's, it is his own).
Personally, I think "Dazai wins because he has friends, Fyodor loses because he doesn't" is kind of a boring way to go with both Fyodor's character and with the conflict between him and Dazai. Considering this is BSD, where everyone and their boss gets a redemption arc of some sort, and considering this a character based (however loosely) off of Fyodor Dostoevsky, a man who wrote numerous novels exploring deeply complex philosophical and religious ideas about human nature and redemption, I had hoped that Fyodor's character would have a redemption arc of his own. I really hoped that he wouldn't end up being the one character in this series treated like a stereotypical villain. Alas, here we are...
But whatever, they set this up, and again, theoretically, it makes sense. It works for their characters, and I don't mind the idea that Fyodor loses to Dazai because of Dazai's trust in others - in theory. You are certainly right that it makes fyozai all the crunchier!
But it just doesn't work the way they did it. It doesn't work because Fyodor does not actually have any direct control over the vampires.
Unless I missed something about there being a line on the Page that says "the vampires shall obey Fukuchi Ouchi, Bram Stoker, and Fyodor Dostoevsky, and no one else", Fyodor does not control the vampires. Fukuchi does, because Fukuchi has control of Bram. Or Fukuchi is supposed to, because Fukuchi is supposed to have control of Bram. The only reason the vampires would obey Fyodor at all is because, presumably (though I don't think this is ever stated), Fukuchi ordered them to through Bram and Bram's Ability.
This means that in order for Fyodor to use any of the vampires, including Chuuya, as his pawns, he would need to have complete trust in Fukuchi. He would need to trust that Fukuchi hasn't fucked anything up, has not lost control of Bram, and that whatever Dazai was plotting with his buddies outside the prison has not caught up to Fukuchi and exposed him or taken him down. And Fyodor knows that Dazai is plotting, he knows that Dazai is in contact with the outside. He knows Ranpo is out there, and that Dazai is relying in particular on Ranpo.
And he was able to predict Ranpo's moves at least up to trying to intercept the One Order. So he also knew that Fukuchi had been/would be discovered and that the ADA were actively trying to thwart him. But he carried on his plan to use Chuuya, because he still trusted that Fukuchi had control of Bram.
In other words, he was trusting Fukuchi in exactly the same way Dazai was trusting Ranpo and the others.
It doesn't matter if Fyodor and Fukuchi are "friends," or if they're real "allies" - the point is that Fyodor did not actually have any direct control over the vampires, or over Fukuchi. Fukuchi even says in the anime that he "sent him (Fyodor) to prison" to ensure that Fyodor could not interfere with his actual plan - which was, of course, not Fyodor's actual plan. But Fyodor trusted that things were still going according to his plan, even though he couldn't actually manipulate things directly from where he was. Exactly like Dazai.
I get the whole "Fyodor thinks his plan is perfect" thing, but in this plan, Fukuchi had all of the power over the vampires, not Fyodor. Sure, you can argue Fyodor thought he had Fukuchi under his thumb (which, by the way, I find very hard to believe, because from what Fukuchi tell Fukuzawa, Fyodor knew what Fukuchi really wanted, and made a deal with him to achieve that; therefore, he knew Fukuchi had his own motives), but that doesn't matter - what matters is that he placed control of the pawns he intended to use in the hands of someone else.
That ruins Dazai's whole "you don't trust anything you can't manipulate" - because he wasn't manipulating the vampires, and he couldn't manipulate Fukuchi from prison.
And he purposefully put himself in prison as part of his "perfect plan," so he intentionally put himself in a position where he could not directly manipulate his most important pawn: Fukuchi.
So the whole "Fyodor loses because he doesn't trust others" is bunk precisely because they used the vampires as the key to Fyodor's downfall. Fyodor literally cannot use the vampires as part of his plans without trusting an ally - Fukuchi. The idea behind Fyodor's downfall is fine. The execution is what doesn't make any goddamn sense.
It also doesn't work for me because this is Fyodor we're talking about here. Are you seriously telling me I should buy that Fyodor was fooled by contacts and fake fangs? Like for real? If it were anyone else, sure. But Fyodor? I wouldn't buy Dazai or Ranpo falling for that, either. I don't care how much Fyodor believes in his own perfect plan. He still should be able to tell the difference between someone who has been turned into a vampire and someone who has not. Especially since Dazai says he and Chuuya have pulled this kind of thing before. I'm expected to believe it never occurred to Fyodor they'd do something like that? Why, because he's not a soukoku shipper?
I wish we had gotten Dazai bringing Chuuya back to his senses through their bond, because that would make a whole hell of a lot more sense than this being an elaborate act - and it would actually give credence to the idea that Fyodor's desire for complete control is his undoing.
And while we're talking about the narrative problems, let's talk about that hand injury that's so important to all of this. I already talked about this in another post, but Fyodor deciding to let the vampires pilot the helicopter because his hand injury made it impossible for him to do so doesn't make sense to me, either, because the hand is clearly shown to still be mobile:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know there's a big difference between piloting a helicopter and pressing a button or letting someone else hold your hand, but the hand is obviously not useless. Why would Fyodor be willing to put himself at the mercy of his pawns if he can still use his hand, wounded or not? Again, when he's not actually the one controlling them?
Obviously, this isn't going to be a plot point in the manga because Fyodor has no hand injury in the manga, but this was another thing that bothered the hell out of me. They really just had Fyodor act stupid all of a sudden so he could get himself killed.
Again I hope I'm not sounding too harsh! I'm not trying to attack you at all!! But do you see why I have such a problem with the finale? I get what it was trying to do, but the way it was done just doesn't make any sense, imho. Now, if they had done something with Sigma and Fyodor, like I thought was going to be the case...
I do really appreciate your opinion on the finale, and I don't want to suggest you're wrong or anything. I'm just saying that to me, there are massive issues with it. I just think it's really bad writing.
More than that, it felt so cheap to kill Fyodor off that way. It didn't feel like a big deal, it just felt rushed and - well, cheap. Fukuchi's death has the same problem, but at least with Fukuchi they took the time to flesh out his character, give us answers to the remaining questions about his past and his motives, and give him an emotional send-off. They just blew Fyodor up and went, "Well on to the next!"
But!! With time to reflect, I think the people saying that Fyodor isn't really dead at all are probably right. There are just too many unanswered questions; it doesn't make narrative sense to actually kill him off at this point.
And we don't know how the manga is going to go yet. If the manga does follow the anime, I think it's a pretty good bet that when Sigma wakes up, the secrets he learned about Fyodor will be revealed, and then - well, I guess we'll see.
In the meantime, though, I'm going to continue to (mostly) pretend the finale didn't happen sdfghjghj
Again, thank you for sharing! 💕💖 I think you made some good points, but I hope I was able to explain why I disliked the finale so much :/

/// BSD Spoilers up to Ch. 110
So I realized something interesting about the teaser for the next episode of the anime: Dazai getting shot by Chuuya is very explicitly shown in the preview.
At first I thought "Oh yeah they just wanted fans to know that we'd be getting to chapter 109 in this episode already". But then I realized that it's actually super weird that they would "spoil" the big twist (Dazai's potential death) in the teaser already. That feels a little bit like if had chosen to show a clip of Chuuya drowning in episode eight (which they obviously didn't - it was supposed to be The Big Thing of that episode, it was meant to shock anime-only fans and leave them with a cliff hanger that would have them come back the following week). So why did they make the decision to show (what one would assume) The Big Thing of episode 10?
And it's not even a subtle hint that only manga readers would pick up on. We flat-out see Chuuya shoot Dazai in the head in 4K colorized version.
People have theorized that episode 11 would actually wrap up this arc by showing unreleased manga chapters, which is a theory I'm inclined to support (what's the alternative? Storm Bringer crammed into 20minutes? Chapter 110 but it's just Aya falling for 15 minutes? A beach episode?).
However, one twenty-minute episode feels way to short for wrapping up an arc as big as this. We literally have four different POVs to follow simultaneously - five if you count SKK and Fyodor/Sigma in Mersault as seperate POVs. Half of the cast is currently bleeding out somewhere. So we'd have to assume that the last episode is gonna be significantly longer (probably fourty minutes, if you want a more or less clean wrap up off all the loose ends). Which in turn leaves us with the question - why not just do an episode 12 and thus bring this season to a standard BSD length?
But let's assume this issue gets fixed somehow.
Narratively I think it would make sense to leave episode 10 with the absolute lowest point of our protagonists. Which I guess you could say it does but that leaves 110 and Aya's little Beastzai moment out. It would be odd to start the episode with Aya jumping because her POV needs to be the first one resolved (since Bram controls the vampirism). It also wouldn't fit with the assumed episode's theme of regaining the upper hand in the battle/ with things looking better for our protagonists.
In conclusion, episode 10 will likely feature Aya's jump as The Big Thing for anime-onlys to be shocked about and in episode 11 we'll get unreleased content and the big finale of this arc.
Is this a theory I personally like? Not really because it leaves the possibility of an incredibly rushed ending to this overall fairly good arc. It would also take away at least a couple of months' excitement for new manga chapters away since these would already be featured in the anime.
But I think it is the best option we are left with. Unless Bones pulls a Haha Jk on us and there is no 11th episode.
I don't usually post rambles like these and my thoughts are probably all over the place so forgive me if this is too confusing T_T

Hi, recently discovered your blog, love it <3
I started reading the manga around the Kamui Reveal, and back then already worried about the entire arc. Personally, the Dazai-vs-Fyodor-Setup felt undirected and predictable (back then and yet again at its end).
To me, it’s been already pointed out how Asagiri might have a hard time deleting the original cast from the story, which I don’t fault him for. (He likes creating and writing characters and you can tell, I actually love it.) My problem would just be that he needs to change stakes to the plot, it’s getting in the way of immersive storytelling (because he seldomly pulls through with the stakes long-term regarding the original character cast.)
You can actually write a story with good stakes that are consequential to actions without killing characters off; if you do it well, not having death threats hanging over every characters heads won’t take away from the story. (However, with a setting and worldbuilding like bsd it’s a little unrealistic to not have death as side effect/consequence or characters die.)
Back to the arc that’s been going on for years, it feels weird (unplanned), because that’s opposite to how the previous arcs (and especially the light novels) felt and it’s one of the longest arcs; I would have assumed Asagiri had something in mind for a proper (plot)conclusion (it’s a personal opinion that this arc is not properly concluded (currently)).
When we had chuuya drowns and dazai gets shot scenes, I wasn’t for one second thinking they actually died, I was thinking, how is Asagiri gonna write himself out of these scenes (because to me it felt like he didn’t have a solution, reviving the characters, prior to their death scenes), which is a pretty non immersive experience as a reader.
And it’s really weird to me, because I can’t think of a good reason of how all this happened.
Asagiri is not a bad writer, that’s established and the (i think) last „side“ project Stormbringer was exceptional (personal opinion (and I was still baffled(slight negative connotation) at Verlaine being kept alive (who knows wether he will play a role in the future)), it’s really weird thinking about Stormbringer and this arc being written out at a similar time. (I personally have a theory as to why the light novels are so good: He likes writing snd creating characters, but having them interact in this huge cast and series is understandably difficult, whereas the light novels can be seen as a backstory/part of a character, something he is incredibly good at constructing.(He also doesn’t really struggle killing off people here, because the consequences don’t affect the main story.))
He doesn’t „pander“ to people either I think, or at least it wouldn’t make sense. Bsd might possibly have attracted a shounen audience, but it got popular because of seinen themes and characters (which affects the plot) in the first place, so changing things towards to a shounen lane would be dumb, and also not something like Asagiri would do.
I’ve also skimmed across my rant here and I sound like I hate the arc or his writing, but I actually don’t haha, I actually liked a lot of this arc, themes and characters and still have faith in him as an author and this series, it’s just these particular things that kinda hugely scratch my opinion on this arc and how what’s currently happening feels like a non-answer to everything that came before it.
I’m interested in hearing your opinion on this, if you want to take the time for this huge complaint rant (I’m not mad if you don’t haha), in which ways you agree/disagree/could possibly educate me further.
You blog overall is really cool, love your analyses; lots of love <33
Thank you for the ask, I’m so glad you’re enjoying this blog!!!
You’ve summed up the current arc’s issues perfectly— it seems to be out of place when compared to everything else Asagiri wrote in both the previous arcs and the light novels. It came across as aimless— as if Asagiri himself wasn’t sure where he was going with it and was as taking it chapter by chapter.
That being said, I do believe that it might just be a matter of personal taste—maybe Asagiri’s tastes in storytelling has changed over the years, and the current arc is the type of stuff he’d be more interested to write about going forward. I’d be a bit disappointed if that’s the case (and as far as I could tell, I won’t be the only one), but he might form a new fanbase that this current type of story is more catered to.
Either way, I still have hope that future bsd arcs might revert back to how bsd used to be four years ago.

BSD Theory? CW s*cide
So like I firmly believe that Chuuya will be dead at the end of the manga. Sorry stans but I believe the chibi will be six feet under. I also thought that Dazai and Chuuya would both be dead but thinking about it, I don’t think that anymore. Looking at how Paul and Arthur’s relationship was presented and how close it was to their real life counterparts relationship, we can then look at the poet Chuuya Nakahara and how he lived until he was 30. Now talking about the tiny red head, we see him work is ass off to just to survive from the age of 15 to the current timeline the man is always so close to being killed. Dazai as we know, has s*cidual tendencies that do not succeed with every attempt. So to wrap to up basically what I’m saying is that since the irl Chuuya lived a shorter life than the irl Dazai, then Chuuya in the manga will also die before Dazai. Like I know in 101 that Chuuya is like drowned but we all collectively agreed that he isn’t dead because he can manipulate gravity so how could he drown. I feel his death would be at the end of the whole series that would tie together soukoku once again in one touching scene, kinda like in dead apple. A truly ironic way for him to go a man that wants to live dying, while the man who wants to die, lives.

I think that maybe there's something about Dazai's very first appearance in the manga consisting of him trying to drown himself and how in the current manga events Dazai is attempting to kill Chuuya by having him drown

written theories/analysis on the BSD manga
half-fleshed out analysis of the BSD anime’s cinematography (lighting, composition, etc)
general ramblings about the BSD anime’s music (because i am nothing if not a huge nerd about this sort of thing)
i have tried to organise things via the tags in the past but not all of them show up, so i’m leaving all the links to everything here—alongside the tags i used—for posterity and so i can find things when i want to. everything is below the cut:
WRITTEN THEORIES ON THE BSD MANGA
the tag i use is jems bsd theories, but not all of these show up all the time, unfortunately. so here’s the list:

Hey, BSD anime, exactly how fucking old do you think Fyodor is???
This is such a random and entirely pointless observation but as I was settling down to draft something involving Fyodor, it immediately came up and has been buzzing around my brain since. (To preface, despite having been really into BSD for the past 5 years, I only recently caught up to the manga and have yet to read all the light novels so grain of salt and all that, sorry!)
(This is just a really long-winded joke post, BSD S4 and manga spoilers)
So, as we all know, a bunch of Dostoevsky's info is still unknown (like, y'know, what exactly Crime and Punishment does) including his height, weight and age. The first two are pretty unimportant and, frankly, so is the last one for the most part as he looks about the same age as Dazai or any of the other mid-to-late 20s characters (although sometimes it's hard to tell). All in all, safe bet that he's... just that. There's nothing implying anything weird about his age and the common consensus is that he's in his 20s, as expected.
And then the anime just??
So, in the last episode covering the Untold Origins of the Detective Agency there's a scene at the end with Fukuzawa and Ranpo discussing V, which also happens in the light novel. Cool! What distinctly does not happen is Fyodor showing up on a random rooftop, looking EXACTLY as he does in the present and dropping a bomb about V (granted, we don't see his entire face but like,,, c'mon, same outfit and everything).
Disregarding that last part for now,,, WHAT??
Y'all,,,, the arc takes place 12 fucking years ago.
Either he wasn't actually there and it's just for exposition, which doesn't really make sense because Fukuzawa notices him (even if he disappears immediately after).
Or, there are two ways to go about his age which I find equally hilarious.
If we keep with the assumption that Fyodor is in his mid 20s, let's even say late 20s to make this slightly less ridiculous, that'd still make him, what, like 17 if he's currently 29? And I think most of us HC him to be closer to Gogol (26) or even Dazai and Chuuya's (22) age which in the flashback would make him, respectively, 14 or 10. Fucking.
Tumblr media
TEN
Tumblr media
I,,, don't even think I need to elaborate on that,,
OR, alternatively, if we use a more sensible* estimation for his age in the flashback (*more like if I wanna amuse myself some more because to be fair, 15 year old Dazai doesn't look too different from current Dazai), let's say 20 or 22 like Dazai now, that'd make him 32-34 currently. And in THAT case, it puts this panel:
Tumblr media
into perspective a lot more because yeah, if I were a weird super-genius that's presumably been working on a singular goal for over 12 years, I too would be pissed at having to try so hard and fake-drown and all this other shit just to best some rat bastard 10 fucking years younger than me.
Or the BSD anime is implying that Fyodor's immortal.
Anyway, idk why I wrote this lmao but there you go

Ok I really have the feeling that the upcoming manga chapters will finally give us some more information about this vampire ability, specifically how the ability can be disabled.
And I really think this is going to be done through Chuuya and Akutagawa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So obviously with Chuuya, there have been a lot of theories after he (finally) made a reappearance in chapter 105.5. People were quick to point out that at the end of chapter 101, Chuuya’s eyes looked human. Whether that’s because he was on the verge of drowning or because of Dazai’s speech is unclear.
Tumblr media
And then in his reappearance, Asagiri makes a point of purposely not showing us his eyes. The whole chapter, his eyes are covered. There are also other signs that Chuuya has regained his humanity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the most recent chapter (107) sees Dazai getting severely injured after sacrificing himself to save Sigma
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After he begs Fyodor to kill him and end the pain, Fyodor sends Chuuya so he can kill Dazai
If Chuuya is really human again, it would be in his best interest to help Dazai (shipping aside) because they share a common enemy and the PM is currently struggling through the vampire infection. More importantly, it could give us information about how the vampires under the ability could break out of it just like Chuuya did
On the other hand, we have Akutagawa. this next part may be pure delusion on my part but hear me out
From what we know, Aku has died in the fight with Fukuchi and was then turned into a vampire
Tumblr media
But in the last chapter, we find out that vampires don’t need to defend themselves during a fight because they just regenerate
Tumblr media
WHAT IF
Aku was on the verge of death but didn’t actually die? This would mean that getting turned into a vampire saved his life and that if Atsushi is somehow able to disable the ability (by giving him a long speech perhaps? Or trying to drown him? Lol), Aku will be ok
But yea I’m reaching here 🧍‍♀️
Don’t come at me if I end up being completely wrong about everything I said here and the next chapters end up being some random pov switch that is unrelated

Ok, here it goes, my FULL report on Soukoku and how it went vs how it’s going
First and foremost I think the singer that describes their love life best is Childish Gambino (this post is inspired by Les)
anyhoo, onto the report! So, this all started in Age 15, when these two pretty boys met on a mission, Chuuya being y’know..Chuuya- and Dazai being reserved and not really comfortable with sharing ANY of his feelings other than hate for Chuuya
Storm Bringer…ooo, danger, Chuuyas getting more comfortable with Dazai now, and Dazai’s still reserved and kind of..Eh, y’know? Like, he cares but will never admit it to Chuuya’s face.
Current Manga, well first, chapter ten, when they first met again..THE TENSION GOOD LORD- I can picture Chuuya being just..cold with him because on the inside..He so wants to yell how much he adores Dazai..as for chapter whatever the fuck Chuuya nearly got drowned in..I CRIED YALL. But, I think..I don’t think Dazai was lying with what he said..he meant it, because as I’ve mentioned, Chuuya fell first, Dazai kind of lead him on and just..abandoned him, and when this happened, Chuuya covered all his feelings with rage.
(ALSO, WE NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW I KIN DAZAI MORE THAN CHUUYA BUT FOR SOUKOKU IM ON CHUUYAS SIDE-..seriously kin bingo made me realize I kin Dazai WAYYY more then any human should)

##𝐂𝐇𝐔𝐔𝐘𝐀 , a character analysis involving for the tainted sorrow and an autumn poem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WARNING !! this analysis will contain spoilers for the bungou stray dogs manga. it will also discuss topics such as domestic abuse, death, smoking, alcoholism, suicide, and mental illness. please do not read if you feel uncomfortable with any of these themes.
DISCLAIMER !! this is not for the purpose of romanticising, shaming, or otherwise glamourising mental illnesses. please take this from someone who also suffers from mental illness. i am merely attempting to analyse. also, i'm not trying to assign each chuuya a sexuality, but i'm literally just going off the poems and what i observe so ...
note. i worked pretty hard on this, and i'm very happy with it. please like or reblog if you can, i would greatly appreciate it. please, share your thoughts on chuuya as well !! he's my favourite if you can't tell- and also fun fact chuuya's bday is the 29th of april, and mine is the 28th !! it's a sign !!!
Tumblr media
The poet Nakahara Chuuya [中原 中也] was born on the 29th of April in 1907, and died young in 1937 from tuberculosis. He wrote highly symbolic, mostly short poems, that were inspired by his struggles with mental illness and other personal troubles. He was said to be mostly quiet withdrawn and shy in his early life, mostly keeping to himself, though he branched out in rebellion of his strict parents later and made friends with other literary and entertainment figures.
Asagiri Kafka has adapted him into a character in the Bungou Stray Dogs animanga, a Port Mafia executive slash host of a Japanese god of the same name. This character is sarcastic and fairly quick to anger, noticeably short, and has a fond appreciation for high-quality alcohol.
I would like to contrast the author and character of Nakahara Chuuya, also analysing his poems, in the hopes of creating a comprehensive understanding of who he was.
BPhysically, it's easy to say that real-life Chuuya and BSD Chuuya look both similar and different. Comparably, they are both quite short [some sources stated the poet to be only five feet tall] and had a fondness for hats that they nearly constantly wore. Both are young if we, say, compared them at the peak of Chuuya's life and the current BSD arc, and are well-off in some aspects.
However, there's the obvious difference of BSD Chuuya having his long orange hair, whereas real Chuuya had more understated regular dark hair. Additionally, one of them has the ability to manipulate gravity, has committed hundreds of 'crimes' including manslaughter, and hosts a deity named Arahabaki in their body, and the other ... does not.
In all honesty, it initially seems like the character of Chuuya has taken little more than his name, stature, vague fashion sense, and ability from his namesake, but then I conducted a little more research and realised that they were actually far more similar than I had realised, but this requires a more in-depth look into both of their pasts.
Historical Nakahara Chuuya was somewhat of a miracle birth – born after six years of attempts by his parents [who I'm mostly sure were feminists because his dad took his mum's name of Nakahara] in an at-the-time childless town named Yamaguchi, a cause for great successful. His family was quite prominent, with his father being a successful doctor, meaning that Chuuya was expected to become one from childhood. To summarise, his family forced that expectation upon him, forbidding him from playing with children of a "lower class'"and forcing him to undergo an immensely strict education with punishments as harsh as being made to sleep in the barn if he disobeyed. He would even be burnt with a lit cigarette if "prompted", and not even allowed to play in rivers and such for fear that he would drown. Physical abuse followed him from that incredibly young age, leading to a distrust and hatred of his family.
In the same way, manga Chuuya's un-ideal childhood shaped him up to who he became as an adult. He started off life happy, with two ordinary parents, but when he was merged with Arahabaki at the age of seven, he lost his memories, his ordinary childhood, and any sense of support and love for a long time. Notably, this is around the same time that real Chuuya's hellish education began. The parallel to that was the expectation of being a leader to the Sheep, and the "abuse" of living in poverty in his formative years. Once he was taken into the Port Mafia, however, he lost even more of what could be considered a "regular childhood", and was then expected to shelter himself in the same way after becoming an executive. Both were also named "prodigies", and expected to hold to that degree of perfection.
Additionally, a catalyst event that caused them both to lead a path rebelling against the way they'd begun their lives. In both cases, it was by losing someone – real Chuuya's younger brother passed away when he was eight, driving him by grief to discover and compose literature. At thirteen, his poetry was discovered, the same year he entered Junior High and began to rebel against his father in neglecting his studies and classes. For manga Chuuya, it's difficult to say what his catalyst event was, but I think it was most likely losing himself to Arahabaki and then losing most of the people who came into his life after that point.
From that point onwards, in essence, Nakahara Chuuya did his best to disappoint his parents in failing his exams, even though he would receive those harsh punishments each time he did. To him, independence and free will were more important than getting hurt, which is evident in Bungou Stray Dogs as well. This finally led to him being freed from the oppression of his harsh parents, and he was able to study what he wanted, do what he wanted [drink a lot of alcohol and write poetry] and essentially be free.
If I were to cast the greatest similarity between author and character, it would have to be their determination in getting through whatever they suffered. Both of these men were faced with death when they were children, then manipulated by those they wanted to care about, and forced to endure an incredible amount of mental-illness-inducing trauma. And yet, both found outlets [whether it be poetry or combat] to deal with their pain and sadness, and both ultimately got through the most difficult times in their lives and found something to give them purpose. It's perhaps this trait that I admire the most, along with their compassion and love for those close to them.
There is, furthermore, the actual nature of Nakahara Chuuya's poetry. Those following Bungou Stray Dogs would of course know For the Tainted Sorrow, which is a poem on the nature of sorrow or pain, and clearly bears very personal suffering within the lines. One stanza really reminded me of Soukoku [Double Black/Chuuya and Dazai] – For the tainted sorrow, has no desires or wishes; For the tainted sorrow, In langour dreams of death. Chuuya wasn't able to have anything for himself, and he felt tainted by Arahabaki's inhabitance of his body, whereas Dazai wanted death so fervently he was willing to commit suicide. The emotional fragility of Chuuya's poetry is something that also lingers under manga Chuuya's exterior as well, and is one of the most enticing parts of the character.
However, my favourite of Chuuya's poems is one called An Autumn Poem, in three suites. It also led me to believe that he may have had feelings for other men, as it, a) reminded me very strongly again of Dazai, and b) is written like my lovesick poetry. The essence of the poem is the narrator [Chuuya] is very close to a man who he feels is dying, but doesn't know if the man is aware of this. The man is very eccentric and says some strange things [they're a lot like what Dazai would say], and there is some affection from Chuuya towards him. And I, you know, would watch him from this angle. Staring after it, that yellow butterfly – even doing something as innocuous as butterfly watching, Chuuya was admiring this man, with this pure, strong emotion in the poetry, that I find absolutely captivating.
How strange we are before we die … that was Chuuya's final line about the man, and perhaps my favourite of all his poetry. Nakahara Chuuya died young after he'd been able to free himself and write what he wished. In some ways, perhaps the transferral of his personality into Bungou Stray Dogs wasn't as carbon-copy-like as Dazai's, but I found it to be the most interesting. The most important parts of Chuuya as observed by Asagiri are the most fascinating parts of his character, and this comparison is entirely underrated.

Just a thought on the current bungo stray dogs manga... spoilers by the way.
.
.
How do I spoiler something on a phone?
Googled it... don't know if that worked
Edit: it didn't

Chuuya is a vampire and apparently they can't drown if they're based on the actual book so what if Fyodor has Chuuya bite him and he lives and they both live through Nikolai's game? Like just a thought... and neither of them leave the prison because their game between then isn't over yet either.

i just finished stormbringer and 1. IT WAS SO GOOD OMG CHUUYA CHUUYAAAA and 2. if chuuya really unleashes that sort of power in the current manga arc (can he though. as a vampire. minor inconvenience?) i don’t think those prison walls and heavy water stand a chance. somehow chuuya won’t drown to death in prison. manifesting!!
