Salutation
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who never lies, promised ages ago 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by command of God our Savior;
4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
Titus in Crete
5 This is why I left you in Crete, that you might amend what was defective, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you, 6 if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of being profligate or insubordinate. 7 For a bishop, as God’s steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled; 9 he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it. 10 For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially the circumcision party; 11 they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for base gain what they have no right to teach. 12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 instead of giving heed to Jewish myths or to commands of men who reject the truth. 15 To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed. — Titus 1 | Revised Standard Version (RSV) Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright © 1946, 1952, and 1971 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Courage in the Pulpit: Faithful Preaching in a World of Compromise
In times of moral and political tension, the role of pastors becomes even more critical. The claim that many megachurch pastors have become moral cowards, shying away from issues like abortion and the sexualization of children, echoes a profound concern. If they avoid confronting the pressing moral crises of our time to maintain popularity, they are no longer shepherds guiding their flock but…

The Terrifying Reality of Frollo
First post in my series for Clergy Appreciation Month (and my follow-up to that other Hunchback of Notre Dame post. Better late than never, right?)
Alright, part two to my Hunchback of Notre Dame post that I said I’d write back in…actually, let’s not dwell on the past. Let’s focus on the now. I started to put everything I wanted to talk about in the previous post, but when I got to what I wanted to say about Frollo, I decided to split it. You’ll see why in a bit. Alright, so. This bastard is Frollo. I have a lot to say about this man. For…

Elders Must Take The Lead -- Steve Vice
A longtime member of the Lord’s church said to the elders that a survey had been done that showed that our youth “who grew up in more conservative churches” were more likely to leave the church once they reached college age than those raised in not so conservative churches. This well-meaning member then suggested that we adopt a more “open-ended teaching method” that presented a challenging…

Working through the biblical story of Jonah and the church leader. Was reading through the Psalm of chapter two and stopped when I read this verse. How easily we get distracted on a daily basis from our calling to be faithful when so many things are begging for our attention. They may be good things but are they pulling you away from what is most important?

Subconscious Bias in Church
In the sacred halls of worship, where unity and love are preached, there exists a sobering reality—the presence of subconscious bias and racism. Despite the teachings of acceptance and compassion, these deeply ingrained attitudes can persist, challenging the very essence of what a church should represent. The subconscious biases that infiltrate the church often stem from societal influences,…

Understand your mental health better so you can do better and lead better. Your influence could save (or harm) someone else's life and mental health. Watch or listen to the Plant Your Seeds of Transformation podcast with Coach Donna Marie.
Today I, Coach Donna Marie, am taking some time away from the normal weekly livestream. Organizational Leadership (Exodus 18:13-27)
Tasks and functions are not ends in themselves, but will continually change in order to accomplish the results we want.
Jethro and Moses, by James Tissot, c.1898 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?” Moses answered…
