The reason I am interested in this photo is that of its simplicity. This would fall under 'the detail' of Szarkowski's 'issues'. Also, even though it is flat, the shadow adds depth and makes the exit sign pop, in addition to the contrast between the purple and white. There is a sort of issue with leading line, which was intentional and adds to the image. The two horizontal lines want to drag the viewer's eyes across the image, but the exit sign is a violent break to this path, which also demands attention as a focal point.
