Atlantis Boy - story

This is the story of Cascade Lan'vive and a dragon called Aeginarra.

With the appearance of the Dragon Queen, dragons appeared throughout the lands of Chrysathelia, shattering the peace that the mortal and divine worked so hard to preserve and nurture. The City-State of Lunaer, of course, would be ravaged by war itself. It was said two military commanders went missing as a fearsome dragon of flame wreaked havoc, declaring himself “the king.”

The military of Lunaer fought back with all their might, but this dragon possessed a fearsome strength, being able to summon and control corrupted beasts to fight at his side. For weeks on end, the people of Lunaer lived in fear for their lives as the battle raged on.

Cascade Lan’vive was a young and sickly boy, around the age of 13 or 14. In his childhood, he fell with a deep, deep illness, with no way to be cured. Although he was rejected and pitied for his illness, he found peace by the shore. The sight of the glittering waves every day was his comfort. He would swim every day; the ocean was his friend.

However, as the dragon came to cause destruction upon Lunaer, so did the waters nearby stir with destructive storms. It was no longer safe for Cascade to live by the ocean, but as the oceanside dwellers were evacuating, he was engulfed by the storm, left behind to drown in the ocean.

Within the depths of the sea was another dragon – there she resided in her own pitiful resentment, swirling around in her raging storm of emotions. It seemed Cascade’s fate was to die within her rampage, but she took notice of the boy who had ended up in her domain. His very presence snapped her out of her mire of distress. His body, weak – a flicker about to die out. But in that flicker was a spark of light, as his heart called out to her. His energy resonated throughout the dark waters, calling to her.

She realized this boy was much like herself. That feeling of rejection; being cast aside – it was the resonance between the two. 

She realized she wanted to save the boy, but she didn’t know how. Only having become a dragon recently, alone in the deep sea, she felt like she was only capable of destruction. But in that resonance of their hearts, she poured all her power and being into his soul; an instinctual reaction to try to save him.

… 

There, light engulfed the deep sea as she found herself in his mind space. A vision of the inside of his being; he stood in the distance amidst a white haze. Then, he collapsed one knee onto the ground, and then two; holding onto his chest. She ran towards him, kneeling down to hold him.

“Are you… okay?” 

“Guess this is where I die.” A forlorn look to the ground. “At the hands of a… dragon…”

The white haze had seemed to glow, and it flickered; becoming darker.

“I am… Aeginarra. What’s your name?”

“...Why does it matter to you?” He looked up at the dragon, and sighed. “Cascade.” 

He examined her appearance more; a body covered in blue scales; black horns protruding from her head– he had never seen anything like her before. 

“You’re one of those… dragons. What do you want? Just kill me already.”

Aeginarra flinched. 

“I’m already done with this life. This is where it ends, anyways.”

“I didn’t… No, that’s not…” She trailed off.

Those words cut at her heart. She remembered “that person” telling her how powerful she could be, conquering over others. “That person” who was always at her side, who rejected her. But, she never wanted to hurt anyone at all. 

“I wanted to help you.”

“What are you even saying? I’m as good as dead anyways.”

The surrounding whiteness flickered, dimmer; yet dimmer. She felt hopelessness in this boy’s soul; the light dying out in these last moments.

“...I wanted to give you my power. So you could live.” 

“Huh?”

He looked up at her. She met his eyes, pleading; hopeful there was a chance.

“I don’t know if I can help you… I don’t know if this will even work.”

“Then why are you bothering with me?”

“Because I believe there’s a chance!”

Aeginarra’s words echoed around him, reaching his core. It was in that moment, he realized that their hearts had resonated. This woman, though she looked unhuman; like a beast – she had such a heart of compassion not even Cascade had felt from other humans. This woman had hope in him. For what, he wasn’t sure, but it was something important to her, that he felt she had to do.

“This power… Great as it may be, if you could accept it, you could live.”

The lights flickered back to life, as dimming fog around them shone once more. 

If there was just one chance, for a new life beyond the shore… 

Cascade opened his eyes.

…

Drowning in the sea, the raging storm came to a close. However, the young and sickly boy was already deep in the water, almost dead – all alone in the darkness.

Though, just as the raging storm dies, so do calm waters return. As he came to, he realized that he was alive. Breathing; surviving underwater. 

He was alive. 

“I’m so glad you were able to live, Cascade,” a voice from within his mind said.

“Huh?” 

Realizing what had just happened – who that voice was, why she wasn’t in front of him anymore – he looked around instinctually.

“Oh… Aegi… narra, was it?” He asked again.

“Yes. Now, there’s something I want us to do. Shall we return to the shore?”

Cascade nodded, and swam towards the surface.

"Bring me back to the shadows of my birth..."

Living in the age of peace, I stopped to listen to a performance most ethereal and divine...

You may have heard of Cordelia, the bard. She travels all across the world, and her songs detail the stories of our past. There are many bards like her, who sing such stories; but there is something quite enchanting about her songs in particular.

I was lucky to be passing by in Lyraea castle city, for a commission. In a local tavern, she was performing. There I sat among the lively bar patrons, a truly joyous atmosphere as her wondrous song filled the air. In the corner of my eye, I saw none other than the princess Kyria herself, sitting by herself, enjoying a drink, likewise admiring the song of Cordelia. It was rather a surprise to see her, though of course – who wouldn't want to enjoy such an amazing performance?

People danced as Cordelia’s clear and beautiful voice sang a song of the past – a story from Phosphoria, about the legend of a lighthearted warrior who took down a great avian beast. She played a heavenly accompaniment on the harp – her fingers moved swiftly; the plucks of each string merged with her sweet voice, and floated through the air like the wind. In that moment, I saw a vision of a girl taking aim at those monstrous wings overhead, to protect her people with her power. Her confident smile; the shot of victory – it was all so vivid with Cordelia’s song.

The final chord struck, and the people applauded and cheered. Cordelia laughed along; it was so nice here, wasn't it?

I took a sip out of my drink; I opted for just a cup of tea. I wasn't intending on any alcohol tonight. The cheers died down as Cordelia prepared for her next song. A focused expression, her hands readied at the strings. Anticipation held over our heads in silence, as she took in her upbeat breath and her hands began to flow across the length of the harp; both the movements of her arms and the ascending passage she played felt like the flow of water.

“Bring me back to the waters that I came from…”

I recognized the tune immediately; it was a common folk tune common in Aurius, where I hail from. But hearing it from Cordelia herself was so… indescribably wondrous and captivating.

This song is called “Aquria,” and it is a song of mourning from the War of Origin. It is important in that it represents the will of our goddess Thaliann, and how, in her sadness, she vowed to protect us no matter what.

And that will of Thaliann; in Cordelia’s song, I felt it more vividly than ever. In an instant, I was at the lakeside back home, looking out upon the water’s waves, feeling that same sadness; that lost feeling. “Tides will rise, and tides will fall;” so was that passion that overtook my heart.

The flowing arpeggios of the harp resonated with the emotive and gentle voice of Cordelia; truly enchanting the audience in silent and reverent wonder.

This sadness; this grief; I had never felt it so poignantly. Somehow, I felt like this is truly Thaliann’s will conveyed through this song; I knew of it, but I had never quite felt it like this before.

In the War of Origin, many many years ago, many lives were lost as the gods and humans fought for this new world. Our world as it is is so peaceful; but our gods and our ancestors fought so much to protect us, and gave us so much in order to ensure us a thriving, bountiful life. Grief is love; love is the desire to protect.

And now I know just how legendary this musician is – Cordelia has unparalleled artistry and emotion in her music; connecting to the hearts of everyone here. Holding my cup of tea, I thought to myself deeply as her song rang out through the air.

You know, I want to do my best, too. I live a life as a mercenary to help people out. But somehow; it's really strange, how just one wonderful performance can change your outlook. Because, thanks to Cordelia's song, I feel more motivated than ever now to help others in any way I can. To remain in these times of peace and prosperity, I want to do all that I can. It's the least I could do to repay thanks to everyone who came before us, who made it possible to live in such a peaceful world.

Aquria… For centuries the song has been passed down, but hearing it like this? I never really would've expected a song I've known my entire life to suddenly make me think about all this.

I think there isn't much to worry about in life, I just have to do my best in doing what I can.

MAJOR Website Update and Overview

Hello! I’ve updated the Chrysathelia Chronos website a lot more. It should be easier and more accessible now more than ever to navigate through the world of Chrysathelia and understand the lore.

This series is something I put my heart into, and I want people to understand the stories and how they connect to each other. I tried to figure out a way to achieve this somehow, but now, I’m confident that this structure will serve its purpose.

The blog was initially going to be the main central for Chrysathelia information, but soon it became evident that it wasn’t going to be the most optimal way to present things.

Home Page and Timeline

The home page now has all stories and songs so far in chronological order. Clicking on a link takes you to the page about that story with the music video and additional information. 

In addition, stories connected via their associated god or location are typically going to be aligned vertically.

As you can see here, an illustration of Cordelia, Aria, and Dragon Queen Aria are aligned together. An illustration of Lunaer is aligned with Cascade and Aeginarra, who originate from the land of Lunaer.

This timeline will continue to expand, and more gaps will be filled as more songs are able to be released. From this point forward I want to try to aim for monthly releases, so I’ve been working hard on a lot of music and stories, and collaborating with music video creators.

World

I’ve removed the “World” page from this blog. Instead, the information now resides on this site. This explains some key terms and locations in the world of Chrysathelia.

Characters

All characters that have appeared in a music video so far have profiles and about pages! Clicking on a character’s name takes you to their page.

Each character page also contains links to characters they’re related to, as well as links to stories they’re featured in. I hope this helps make navigation easier.

Stories

These stories so far are in chronological order. They are also linked to the home page and the timeline.

The stories on each story page are collapsible.

Extra content associated with each story music video are also present. For instance, “Lance of Devotion” (the original) mainly features Aria, with Cordelia only appearing for an instrumental segment. The same illustration of Cordelia is used for a special short instrumental track to highlight more of her character with “Lance of Devotion.” In addition, given the original “Lance of Devotion” was in English utilizing Koharu Rikka before SynthV cross-lingual, an alternate audio version using Rikka in more fluent English is attached -- the AWAKENED version.

Conclusion

That about covers it for the site overview and update.  I’ve been working a lot on Chrysathelia Chronos, and especially for the upcoming music video releases, I want to ensure everything is as clear as possible going forward. Everything is connected, one way or another, and I wanted to emphasize just how much that plays a role in the Chronos.

This is a huge undertaking and project for me, and I’m really glad I decided to start publishing it in late 2020 -- with the first story MV releasing in January 2021. I wanted to start sharing my love for character design and story writing, alongside my main focus of music production. 

I always want to make improvements to help people explore the world of Chrysathelia if they ever come across my songs.
