Ok, I didn’t walk yesterday. But I did today! This story starts off with a lot more action than London Orbital, and feels like a more traditional adventure…until it doesn’t. I like the thematic ties of British folklore tying the two stories together. Happy 59th anniversary, Doctor Who! I celebrated by reluctantly getting up and listening to the last part of this story while walking on the treadmill. Getting up was a bit of a struggle, but knowing I would finish this story if I did made it easier. It was totally worth it. Once again, I don’t want to spoil the story, but I’m happy this won’t be the last we see of Sullivan and Cross. Harry Sullivan is a particular favorite companion of mine, and @chrisnaylorartist brings him to life in a performance that very much evokes the spirit of the late Ian Marter, without sounding like a mimic. New work week, and I got up to walk. Today, I started a new seventh Doctor story featuring the return of former companions Harry Sullivan and Naomi Cross��� but whereas we’ve seen Harry traveling with the Doctor and Sarah on TV, I think this is the first time we’ve seen these two together with any Doctor. It’s almost like a new companion introduction episode, with the focus very much on Harry and Naomi, until the Doctor shows up. Finished the story and started the interviews. And walked for a third day in a row! Tomorrow starts a 3 day weekend so I probably won’t be walking until Sunday. And what a great story! It feels like it was written and recorded in 2021/22, and all the original actors have passed on and been recast. I did it! Got up and walked for the first time in months. I was already halfway through Kaleidoscope, the latest third Doctor adventure from @bigfinishprod. I finished this last night! I thought I was having trouble keeping track of what happened episode to episode because I was listening late at night. After rereading the article in last month’s Vortex magazine, I see that was a very deliberate choice, and a good one for something as twisty as the Time War. And finally, the Kraals appear (as promised by the cover art). I started listening to this Doctor Who Unbound story last night. Unbound is the @bigfinishprod version of Marvel’s What If concept, and the idea here is what if the sixth Doctor fought in the Time War. I feel like the Time War stories are at their best when they are totally weird & crazy, and this story grabs onto that tone with both hands and hangs on for the ride. After being sidelined by an injured ankle, I’m back on the treadmill today! I’m determined to walk all five work days this week. I’m well into the fourth & final episode of this story, so I’ll finish that up as well. Knowing that this was a script completely reworked for the television version, I don’t mind saying that this is a really good production of a mediocre story. I listened to the first episode & a half of this story today. I need to get back to Shadow of the Daleks, but I was really in the mood for a classic adventure, hardening back to the era when I first started watching the show. This audio production really captures that feeling, right down to the almost aggressively Dudley Simpson-esque music score. And I really wanted to hear the recast Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan. For their first couple of lines, it was clear I wasn’t hearing the late Elisabeth Sladen or the late Ian Marter recreating their TV roles.
