Midnight Cinderella Character Notes

My character notes for the midcin suitors. I haven't played all their routes and these will probably change and update as I'm writing & as I acquire more info. Some creative liberties/interpretations inevitable. I've also added some notes for the Princess I'm writing, Lettie.

Updating :) Worked out my notes more in the editing process. So far I have Louis & Lettie done (for now). I've expanded on the other suitors a bit but they're not done & I need to go through the routes more to pin down specifics. I left the notes I had and I'll update as they're done :)

The 'relationship' section for the suitors is how I think they are around love, in relationships in general. I have further notes about how they are with Lettie but that's just plot isn't it? Secrets secrets.

Loretta “Lettie” or “Etta” Vachon – Local medicine woman? Witch?

Personality/Background - Born in the Wysterian countryside, raised with her brother by a single mother who worked as a ladies maid. Lettie spent most of her time looking after the children of the family her mother worked for. After the death of her mother, Lettie was left alone to raise Theo. The master of the household sent them away with a sum of money, which Lettie spent almost entirely on small house in the capital. Finding work enough to survive was difficult but Lettie made herself useful to neighbors who began coming to her for the skills she had learned from her mother. (I have to nail this down more specifically, think masking gallic polytheistic practices with catholic saints/practices to go under the radar during the crusades.) As Lettie became more involved with their lives and making more money, it created rumors of witchcraft. Lettie fed into it, creating a reputation that kept people away while keeping a network of trustworthy clients.

Her personality lends itself well to the witch rumors. Ornery, blunt, more often than not rude or sarcastic. Beneath that, she’s been a caretaker since a young age and it runs deep in her. The loss of her mother and the family she had grown up caring for made her acutely aware of how much it can hurt to love people, but she can’t help herself. She can’t turn her back on people, even if she’s swearing at you and scolding the entire time. Voice - Her family was very involved with the family they served, Lettie and Theo both had access to their library. Lettie’s accent is prominent, either softly pronouncing h’s or not at all, putting emphasis on the last syllables of words, and having a rising intonation at the end of statements. Doesn’t use qualifiers, is always sure before she speaks. Appearance - Overall narrow & lithe build. Despite her nature her features are delicate, if you can notice it under her glare. Almond shaped brown eyes, so dark they’re almost black, usually narrowed in scrutiny. Short, straight brows & covered in freckles head to toe. Long ashy brown hair she’s been cutting herself, so it’s not even.

Louis Howard - Duke

Personality/Background - Cold, distant, bored, & apathetic front. Really he’s entirely cynical, disillusioned, and broken down. He’s not self hating, beyond thinking himself a coward. He’s more motivated by the fear of letting anything true or genuine slip about him. He does have a sense of humor somewhere in there, it’s just buried and it takes knowing him a long while before he’ll let that slip. Rude, sarcastic bitch. Even defrosted there are some things that don’t change.

He doesn’t do anything half assed. Even things he doesn’t want to do. His entire wounded heart is in everything he does from the moment he decides it.

Background isn’t super clear. He says he was kidnapped maybe. He probably at least feels that way as he just went to bed an orphan and literally woke up in the Duke’s manor. Sid says Louis was “paid for” and the orphanage “sold him off.” But a couple paying money to an orphanage and getting a kid is just kind of adoption it’s not really kidnapping. Either way Louis is high key traumatized so I think there is more to it. The world of nobility is cruel sure but my man is having full body responses & projecting his trauma onto a chick he literally just met. What happened to you baby. Voice - Light and elegant, but tendency to be flat to the point of monotone. Tendency to mutter that has never been entirely trained out of him. Not very deep but his emotion can become very apparent in it, particularly anger. Appearance - He’s so gorgeous he looks like he was carved from smooth marble, too bad he’s about as stiff as it too. High cheek bones, heart shaped face. Heavy lidded bright blue eyes & pretty lashes, but they lend themselves well to glaring. I’m looking at a picture of him and what is his hairstyle? Straight, golden blonde hair that he chronically puts off cutting, so it always ends up hanging in his eyes. There’s a statuesque quality to his body as well, that soft marble sort of look that makes him both chiseled and delicate. The plane of his chest is smooth and firm but his waist has a bit of a curve to it, slight wrists, lean legs.

He doesn’t mind being told his face is pretty, but he actually hates to have his body called pretty, smooth, anything that implies it’s feminine or boyish. Makes him self conscious. (He also never grows facial hair, Sid does and he won’t let him forget it)

Albert Burckhardt - knight, advisor

Strong moral, chivalric code. Impeccably skilled & serious but can be flustered. He can be playful but it comes out more in competitiveness, teasing, bickering. Can't really show he cares directly.

“You come across like you're cool and collected but you're a big ball of crazy under there aren't you?” Repressed emotions, he's intense and its not that far below the surface. Even when he's sweet he's intense.

Giles Christophe - Chamberlain

He seems strict but he's hardworking. Playful & flirtatious, no that's not just with the Princess it's how he is. Subtle flair for dramatics but also he’s a wine mom. Kind of a worrier. There’s a Tamaki Suoh vibe in there somewhere.

Lettie wants to be more like him, the way he can see a path forward and maneuver it. More graceful. I gotta re read his route I didn't like it at the time lol

Alyn Crawford - Captain

Grumpy Jock refuses to admit his own feelings to himself, often. Until they reach a fever pitch. Tsundere, would really rather blame you for whatever he feels.

Not possessive, more so easily jealous and very needy. Don’t look at anyone else. You know when a dog doesn’t look like they like being pet but then they growl if you stop?

There goes the captain. And his charge who doesn't have to listen to him.

Sid Arnault - "information dealer"

His title sounds like something he made up. We know what he does, he's supposed to manage the Grandier estate. Is "information dealing" (read: extortion, espionage) a family business or does Sid do this to have his own $, not the Grandiers?

Arrogant and doesn't really give a shit about about anyone but himself. But at the same time he doesn't actually think all that highly of himself. Smarter and thinking more long term than he would let on. It just so happens that long term includes primarily get money, get bitches.

Lettie challenges him, they insult each other back and forth as greetings. He never cares what anyone thinks, why is he obsessing over what Lettie thinks or how she reacts to him? Internal panic.

Nico Meier - Advisor?

Given how Byron came to rule Stein, it wouldn't be surprising if Albert & Nico's positions are a given. They don't have official titles outside of whatever is most advantageous for them to move politically. "Advisor" sort of suits Albert but Nico feels more like a shadowy left hand.

Cheeky bastard, more of a flirt the more he knows someone. Knows he's adorable, manipulative little shit. Loves hard, he will die to prove himself to you.

At first he’s a cute distraction, but she feels more seriously for him when he shows more competence & skill.

Robert Branche - Court Painter

Seems even keeled but actually has a quiet, dark intensity. More pessimistic & cynical than he lets on. I gotta get his route because I need to know more about his deal.

She doesn't need him. She sees all sides of him, not just the warm front. She is patient when he is bitter and dark. Doesnt try to change him, lets him deal with things how he does.

Rayvis Harneit - Archduke

Cool and composed, “does everything perfectly.” Ok so he’s probably a freak under that, right? Controlling. He can keep his emotions under control but when they get more intense he has no idea what to do with them.

Lettie is stubborn, calls bullshit on his persona constantly. He’s not used to being challenged. He falls for her hard and it is completely out of his control and he is not being normal about it.

Leo Crawford - Bureaucrat

hyperintelligent nerd. Very well read, knows something about everything, and will charge for his knowledge in kisses. Playful flirt but he’s got a mean streak when he gets angry.

Leo doesn't work well with a lady, he needs an equal he can be unhinged and playful with. He gets bored easy.

Byron Wagner - 👑

Entirely left brained, to a fault. Thinks for efficiency not emotionally. Has a sense of humor though.

Hot/cool. He's shocking ice or refreshing water, she's fireworks or the burn of alcohol in your chest

Notes on their relationships -

Byron, Al, & Nico - Bastard, Bitch, & Baby. They can turn it on and be the indomitable trio of Stein, but really they’re always 3 brothers competing and messing with each other. Albert can pretend he’s above it but he is not.

Yes Nico & Al fight over who loves Byron more. Yes they will try to prove it.

Giles, Alyn, Sid, Leo, Louis - Why do I kind of feel like they’re friends. They have to deal with each other for work, they have little work/life distinction, turns into drinks after work… turns into god damn dude i been around you too long.

Giles is the wine mom friend, he knows exactly how the rest will fuck up before they do it, and he will say I told you so afterwards. Alyn is supposed to be his rock, but his temper will get the better of him. Alyn feels the same way about Giles, but Giles lets his stress get the better of him.

Alyn and Sid get along, and I can see it but I don't quite know why. In game Alyn can read that Sid is actually panicking when the MC is kidnapped even though in text he seems calm.

Leo & Giles are prone to the same vices of women & alcohol, so Leo loves to be the devil on his shoulder. Leo & Sid are a deadly combination when together, especially if left alone.

Fight on sight with Leo & Alyn. Leo will be a snarky dick and Alyn will start swinging. But they still know each other better than anyone else & can read each other a mile away.

Sid & Louis are the eternal bickering married couple. Louis says he hates him and he does, but he loves him too.

For some reason I feel like Louis & Leo would get along. Leo is 20% more chill with Louis & he appreciates that. Louis is no bullshit, hates the stupid games nobles play, and Leo appreciates that. Fuck everybody else, I respect you.

Götterdämmerung Opernhaus Zürich (Noseda, Homoki) first impressions

for context I stumbled into the same event's Rheingold and Walküre during their back halves and either Mezzo TV skipped Siegfried or I missed it during the weeks I was out, shame

the Norns looked very Targaryen coded for me and this is a narrative with a Targaryen analogue aka Siegfried who to me is like Taylor Swift and Daenerys Targaryen at the same time. I will elaborate later

it's one thing to put on a horse helmet and gallop around and it's another thing to do that and then realise that you forgot your weapon. my ADHD ass felt that

Hagen is a walking gothic spire with that fucking bass to match and he can pin me to the wall with his spear any day

the color coding between the Gibichungs and the lead couple is sending me. Gutrune rocks that shade of red like a diva

Waltraute's eyes scare me more than her account of what happened after Brünnhilde was banished

it pierces me (pun intended) to see Wotan catatonic ngl, not just a how the mighty have fallen trope but it's also that he's got no voice in this finale (congrats Tomasz you can rest now) which scares me because this is a daddy whose issues fucked him so bad that his daughters feel like walking on eggshells waiting for him to speak

the funny thing about giving Gunther a lob while both his sister and Siegfried have one is that Klaus Florian Vogt could just put on the ginger wig and it would still work; instead we have of course the Tarnhelm as a hood (ok this is nice) and then Daniel Schmutzhard coming in with a blank face like an egg ghost from the Korean exorcist drama Sell Your Haunted House possessed the man

why is Hagen surrounded by John Wick variants. why is everyone in black. Wave-Götterdämmerung-Treffen? Goth-erdämmerung? goddamn. I want to join

I am also just enamored in the most childish way whenever somebody wears a robe and it swishes when they move; Hagen and Brünnhilde and Gutrune you all have me in a chokehold

Gunther should have married Siegfried

it gets even more ridiculous because Walküre specifically dealt with twincest and now we have a pair of siblings who consciously don't want to do that and still get their asses bitten because they chose an inbred with a violently protective gf

if I were to explain this opera to people who don't know shit it's “how to exploit the bro code when the inbred boyfriend you godmothered against your daddy's wife's wishes cheats on you with a couple that specifically isn't interested in incest”

maybe Siegfried wouldn't have been too faithful either if he didn't drink that love potion; it stretches the story but it adds intrigue and a bit of realism because honestly, men, but still, runtime, and also, men

Gutrune acting like a coquette for over half the number she spends alone with Siegfried and then shagging him at the end is very fan fiction paced

Camilla Nylund, I love you

the reason I said Siegfried is like Taylor Swift is that both of them are likable especially when you're a white supremacist

Hagen and Brünnhilde make an interesting parallel because both of them have beef with their dads and that beef is just left to rot with only Alberich still alive at the end

the tree trunk has a face on one of its sides, I wonder if it's intentional

camera focus on KFV's hand as he lies lifeless at the bed kinda lost its power when later Siegfried is shown to reanimate again to give the ring to Brünnhilde (her death being shown as him taking her and the horse helmet by the hand to exit stage left is quite cute though)

as with Rheingold the look of the Rhine girls just being in pajamas sharing a bed while the rotating set is almost entirely white registers to me like either The Matrix or an asylum — though because Homoki made the concept really sparse it does let the viewer fill in those blanks in their head

No Trust

Summary: King Byron said many times that he does not let others sway his decisions, but what if the ones closest to him are the reason there is a strain in his relationship with the Princess

Warning: Angst, tears, breakups, bad guys and fluff at the end

The sky was black, and the rain was pouring, Antoinette sighed softly as she looked out the window. She wishes that she didn’t say anything, but she couldn’t keep it in anymore, but he needed to know how they were making her feel, how he chose their point of view instead of hers, how even though he mentions many times he values her input he would never accept them and only took the advice of them. And now because of what was said, she returned the ring and he left, she told everyone that she doesn’t want to be disturbed for any reason, not even for King Ronold.

She couldn’t help but to dream of him and how much she wanted to be back in his arms while she cried herself to sleep. Back in Stein, King Byron was no better, ever since he returned from Wysteria with the ring heavy in his pocket, at first, he didn’t see what she was talking about and few days later he noticed how much Albert was slightly pushing his own agenda and trying to get a new princess for him or how Albert put it a “REAL” princess with TRUE noble blood. Byron didn’t say anything at first until a few days later when Albert and Nico were at it again as always when he suddenly stood up “Enough, now I see what the Princess was talking about, you both have influenced my decisions and especially you Albert, no wonder she didn’t felt at ease here and why she called off the engagement. Nico write to the Princess that and say that I am sorry for what I said to her and would love to see her again.” After that Byron left his office and went to the stables. He took a ride to clear his mind and prayed that Antoinette could forgive him.

It took a few days before she was able to get out of her chambers, Giles was kind enough to listen to her and one of the maids made a cake that her own mother always baked when she was upset. It was a month before a letter came from Spinner, the letter was from Nico that King Byron was sorry for what said and would like to talk to her. Antoinette gave some food and water to Spinner and while he ate, she ripped the letter and put inside a pouch with the necklace she had received from him long ago and she tied the pouch to Spinner’s leg before he flew away. “I do not want to know about anymore personal letters from Stein and Giles. You can take care of the official letters that we receive from them.” With that Antoinette got up from her desk and went back to her room for the rest of the day.

When Nico came back with the ripped letter in a pouch, he understood that it would take some time before the Princess could forgive him but when Nico pulled out the necklace that is when he felt a pain in his heart. Dismissing both of them, he took off his patch and began to cry, whispering to the necklace that he clutched in his hand for his love, his Antoinette to forgive his stupidity. Over time the mood of the Princess changed, once all cheerful to one of somber mood and never with a smile on her face. Even though she was trying to forget him she couldn’t, the love she has for him was too great and the pain of their separation was ever more that she cried herself to sleep every night since the first letter arrived and true to her request, Giles made sure that any letters from King Bryon was swiftly returned unopened. Bryon would see the returned letters, sighed and tried his best to get back to work.

This is how it went for the next few months and everyone in both kingdoms felt the sadness from both of them and guilt was eating Albert the most that he did the only thing he thought he would never do, ask Nico for help. Nico didn’t say anything because he felt terrible as well and was more than willing to help get the Princess and King Byron back together. So when a quick dispatch was sent to Giles requesting help from them on trying to get them back together and quickly sent a response back while getting Alyn and Leo to his office to discuss the plan. A few days later, Giles arrived at the Princess’ office “What seems the problem Giles” Antoinette asked “King Ronold has requested for you and Alyn to go to the forest to investigate some disturbing reports that children have been dumped due to being illegitimate. He would have gone himself but he felt that this situation needed a delicate touch.” Giles told the lie like it was the absolute truth, when he came to the King a few days ago, asking for help, The King was more than willing to help and came up with the ruse, knowing that Antoinette would not be able to refuse to help children in need. He was right, because right after she finished the report she was working on, she quickly changed and went to the stables where Alyn was waiting for her with a horse and Hedwig ready to go.

Albert and Nico came to King Byron’s office with reports of poachers in the forest, putting his papers that he was reading down and out the door. Once at the stables he summons Spinner to fly ahead.. Antoinette and Alyn were the first to arrive at the forest and she gave Alyn a look before asking why they were at the forest near the border of Stein. “I am sorry but this is where the children are rumored to be dumped.” he shrugged as he got off, “Why don’t you go ahead and see if there is any truth to the reports, I will be there is a second,” she gives him another look before making her way into the forest. At the same time on the other side of the border, King Byron and Spinner arrived in the forest and he made his way into the forest. Unfortunately they were not the only ones there at the forest, indeed there were two poachers and were about to kill a wolf and her two pups when out of nowhere they heard the Princess call out for the children and make her way to where they were.. They were not the only ones who heard her, Byron thought he was dreaming and shook his head and continued to where he thought he heard her voice. Arriving at where the wolf family were, she was shocked and then quickly went to try to free them when she heard a dark laugh “ I would not do that if I were you, it is a wild animal you don't know when it will destroy that pretty face of yours.” Antoinette stood up and stood between the wolf and them and the wolf growling at the poachers and out of nowhere two flashes of white nose dived and attacked them, it was Spinner and Hedwig trying to protect the Princess. One of them came towards her and tried to attack her but with help of the owls she was able to use one of their weapons against him and killed him but the other one got behind her grabbing her by the neck and was about to stab her when he let go and fell to the ground dead. Antoinette turned around, dropped her weapon due to seeing Bryon with his sword out and panting because he heard everything and ran as fast as he could due to seeing the owls’ nose diving to protect his Queen. It took her a minute to register what had happened and forgetting what happened in the past, she went running into his open arms, he kissed her passionately, not letting her go and she returned his kiss with equal passion. A few minutes later Alyn arrived and got to work on healing the wolf before they left, not before howling in gratitude. When they returned to the castle, everyone from King Ronold to Albert and Nico were waiting for them.

After dinner, Byron and Antoinette went to the garden to talk. As they made their way to the garden, Byron took off his eye patch because he wanted to truly see his love, his Antoinette. Taking a seat close to the fountain, he began to apologize and explained that he now understood what she was talking about. “For now on, as God as my witnesses, I promise that you and your opinions will come first.” Looking into his eyes she knew that he was telling the truth and smiled sweetly at him. Out of nowhere he stood up as Spinner swooped down and dropped something in his hand, and Byron got on one knee “Would you do me the greatest honor and say yes on becoming my queen, my love” he places the sapphire ring on her finger “Yes, a thousand times yes” she whispers as he rose up and gather her into his arms kissed her like he never kissed her before. For the rest of the night, he proved to her that he never stopped loving her and he will never break his promise.
