St. Matthew鈥檚 3rd annual Christmas Pageant in a bag. I brought Eddie along not knowing we would be part of it and infront of the whole congregation but we had a great time being sheep. ^-^ *cough* It was a test of endurance and he passed. #latergram #christmaseve2014

Spending Christmas Eve with Sharks and Stingrays in Belize!
We began our second port day in the beautiful country of Belize! The cruise ship did not dock at a pier today so instead of simply walking we had to take a small speed boat from our ship to the island. Our Belize shore excursion was swimming with sharks and stingrays and exploring the coral reef (which is the second largest in the world). To get to the shark infested waters, we first had to ride another VERY fast speed boat to another Belize island, Caye Caulker. This was my first time riding one of these boats and I was surprised at how quickly they traveled (40 miles per hour).
聽 I was able to cross another item off my bucket list! I鈥檝e always wanted to swim with sharks (docile of course) and on this trip I even petted one. The waters weren't too deep and I was able to stand up most of the time. The sharks and rays were at the bottom of the waters so I accidentally stepped on them a few times. At the coral reefs, our tour guides showed us the different sea creatures hiding amongst them- we saw tiny starfish, spiky sea urchins, and beautiful fish.
After our swim, the tour boat took us back to Caye Caulker and my family and I explored the tiny island. It reminded me of the islands I had visited in Hong Kong- the calm lifestyle, sandy beaches, and breathtaking scenery. The majority of buildings on the island were hotels, souvenir shops, and restaurants. There are only three streets on the island so it is officially the smallest island I've ever been too- cars are not even allowed!
聽 Although it was extremely hot (and it felt as if the sun was burning our skin), I had an amazing time in Belize. I feel like Belize is one of the Central American countries that is constantly overlooked by tourists because its not as well known as Jamaica or as flashy as the Bahamas. However, I think it definitely holds its own among other Caribbean countries. The people are so welcoming and kind and the scenery views are more beautiful than you can imagine. I鈥檓 so glad that the cruise gave me the opportunity to explore its islands!
Love,
Kathleen
