summary: it’s christmas day, and you just had to get away from your overbearing family. you love them, but you need a break from them. in one of the only open bars, you meet their only other customer: one atsuma miya. and he is not quite ready to let you go home after only one drink.

“Come on, lovely. I haven’t even caught yer name yet.” The blonde signals to the bartender for another two drinks, sliding into the seat beside yours. “You can stay for just another drink, can’t ya? It’s freezing out there.”

You can’t help but laugh at his attempts — he’s certainly determined. “Okay, fine. But just one more. I really do have to get home to my family.”

“I’m sure they can wait just another ten minutes,” he assures, sliding a large note over to the bartender. “Keep the change.”

His entire demeanour amazes you. “Trying to impress me even more?” You quirk an eyebrow, finishing the glass to swap the bartender for your new glass.

“Why would I have to impress someone when I don’t even know their name?”

You laugh, lifting a hand over your mouth. “I’m y/n.”

“Well, y/n, it’s my pleasure,” he responds, tugging the hand from your mouth and pulling it into a handshake. “I’m Atsumu Miya.”

The name rings a bell, but you don’t linger on the topic any further. “So, Atsumu, what brings you out here on Christmas day?”

He beams, sipping his beer. “Overbearing family, just like you. My brother’s brought his pregnant girlfriend, which has obviously gotten me under fire about my lack of relationships.”

You raise an eyebrow and eye him up and down. He certainly doesn’t look like the type of guy who wouldn’t have a girlfriend. He’s got a good physique and, even you have to admit, he’s very good looking.

“Keep it in yer pants.” He laughs, and a red tint rises to your cheeks at being caught out. Atsumu doesn’t take his eyes off yours. “What brings you out here?”

“My family at Christmas are very stressful. There’s not enough alcohol in their house to make me stay there the whole time. So, I said I had some work to finish up before tonight.”

“Families, eh?” He clinks your glasses together and brings it to his lips.

“Yeah, they’re a pain in the ass.” You look at the clock on the wall behind Atsumu’s head, trying to figure out how much longer you could put off returning. Dinner isn’t until half 3, which is an hour away. You could get away with…

“Aw, ya can’t leave me on my own yet. When you leave, I have to go as well!” he whines, tilting his head.

You can’t help but smile. “Why do you have to leave when I go?”

“Because otherwise I’ll just be that guy in the bar, alone on Christmas. I can’t have that bein’ everywhere by New Year.”

You raise an eyebrow. “Why will it be everywhere by New Year? Who has to know?”

Atsumu turns and looks at you as if you just said the most ridiculous thing in the world, and maybe you have. But you don’t know why he’s looking at you that way, and it hits him that you have no idea of who he is.

The smile returns to his face and he shrugs his shoulders. “I dunno. Don’t listen to me, I’ve had three drinks and not eaten anything to prepare for Christmas dinner. I must be drunk.”

Tilting your head to the side, you don’t completely believe him. But you have nothing to back yourself up, so you remain quiet. “How will you get home if you’re drunk? You’re not driving, are you?”

“Nah, I’ve got a ride. Don’t worry yer pretty head about it’.” He winks, and finishes off his next drink. “Did you drive?”

It’s not until he asks you that you realise you can’t drive back home. Your face must show it because Atsumu bursts out laughing. “Okay, maybe I was a little caught up in the moment of needing to get away and didn’t think that far ahead,” you defend yourself, sipping your gin.

“Would ya like a lift home, darlin’?”

He flashes you a smile and the same question runs through your mind once again. How is a man like this still single? He can flirt, he’s hot as hell, and his smile. God, he had a truly beautiful smile. Your knees were weak, thank god you were sat down.

Oh god, what if he’s a murderer? That would explain why he’s single. No man can be this nice and attractive. He has to be a serial killer, and you’re his next victim. You just can’t catch a break!

“Well?”

You shake yourself out of your spiral, giving him a hesitant smile. “Um…”

“I’m not gonna hurt ya. If it’ll help, you can sit in the front with my driver and I’ll sit in the back?” he offers, taking out his phone as it starts to ring. He sighs. “Sorry, darlin’. My brother.”

You nod, considering his offer as he swivels in his chair and brings the phone to his ear.

“What? Tell ma I’ll be back soon. What? You what!?” Atsumu drops back his head and tries to contain his noises of frustration. “Congratulations. I’ll be back in an hour. Yeah, whatever.” He ends the phone call and drops his phone on the bar, downing the rest of the drink.

“Rough call?” you joke, watching the smile return to his face and a laugh slipping from your lips.

“They’re gettin’ married,” he whines, turning back to face you. “Married, y/n! Mrs. Osamu Miya. Fuckin’… It’s like he’s out to get me! He wants this holiday to be miserable for me.”

“He’s not out to get you, Atsumu. What would he gain from this?”

He chuckles. “He’s my brother. He loves watchin’ our parents interrogate me after he drops news like this. Last year he posted it on the Onigiri Miya TikTok page and I went viral. My teammates still watch that fuckin’ video.”

“There’s a video?” you ask, eyes wide. “I would kill my sister if she did that to me. She’s constantly bragging to our parents about her career, she’s going to be an environmental lawyer. I’ve gone back to university because I changed my mind on what I want to do again, and my parents are acting like I’m insane. How can you choose just one thing to do, you know? I wanna be everything, but there’s not enough time.”

Atsumu nods along to your words. “Yeah, I get that.”

“What do you do? How did you choose?”

“Well, I played volleyball in high school and loved it. I got an offer not long after I finished and decided that’s what I wanted to do,” he explains, shrugging his shoulders. “You’ll figure it out eventually. Ya still have time.”

You nod slowly, taking in his words. You pick up your drink to sip a little more, before turning to look at him once again with furrowed eyebrows. “Wait… You’re that Atsumu Miya?”

He nods his head. “Yeah. Was waitin’ to see how long it was gonna take you to realise.” He laughs, looking over his shoulder to catch the time.

“Wow. The camera really doesn’t do you justice,” you comment, finishing off your drink. “Is your driver here?”

“Unfortunately,” he responds, pushing himself off his chair. “Ready to return to hell?” He holds out his hand for you to take with a smile, using his other to grab his coat.

You sigh. “Not quite, but we don’t seem to have a choice.” You take his hand and follow him to the door of the bar. “Are you allowed to leave the bar holding my hand? Or are people going to assume you have a secret girlfriend?”

Atsumu pauses before opening the door, turning to face you. “I don’t care people think yer my girlfriend.” He gives you a smile and rests his back against the door of the cafe. “Yer cute, sweet. Different to my exes. I think, if anything, it should be you worrying about bein’ seen as my girlfriend. Does it bother ya?”

You shake your head. “No. Because we were sat at the bar for over an hour and you didn’t once glance at my boobs.”

He laughs, pushing the door open with his back and pulling you with him. “Come on, darlin’. There’s champagne in the limo, let’s get a little more tipsy.”

“Have you ever thought about having a kid?” 

“A kid?” you echo. 

He nods, the sunset light dyeing his face in an orange-red hue. 

“Tobio,” you laugh lightheartedly. “Is this what you’re thinking so hard about?”

He looks put out by your laugh, the sure signs of a budding Tobio Tantrum. “Yeah.” 

“Tobio, we’re so young! Maybe one day…” 

He nods, but you’ve known him for so long, you notice the slight puff of his cheeks and jut of his bottom lip. 

“Tobio, are you seriously pouting about this?” 

“‘M not pouting. I don’t pout.” he says as he crosses his arms over his chest. Turns his cheek away from you. 

Tobio gets like this with you sometimes. And he always gets over it. So you just laugh his attitude off and continue the walk home with a sullen Tobio toddling behind you. 

It’s only later that night when the two of you are in bed that he broaches the topic again. 

“But the others have them already,” he grumbles against your back. 

“What?” you say, turning around to face him in the darkness. 

“I thought you were asleep.” 

“Nope. What did you say?” 

He tucks his chin inward, hiding his face. “Oikawa already has kids. Even stupid Hinata has ‘em.” 

“Tobio,” you sputter in disbelief. “It’s not a contest!” 

“But I’m ready.” he says, blue eyes clear and sure even in the dark. “And I love you. Don’t you?” He looks at you expectantly. 

“I guess I’ve just never thought seriously about it. But… I don’t not want a baby with you.” you offer hesitantly. 

He lights up like a christmas tree. “You mean it?” 

“Yeah, I mean, I love you and…”

He doesn’t let you finish because he’s already all over you, body flipped on top of yours, hands reaching under your shirt, and lips tracing your face. 

“Love you too. Love you so much…” he slurs between kisses. 

And you were going to finish your thought by saying that the two of you need to talk it through thoroughly, preferably when you aren’t drunk with sleep, but his kisses are turning you into mush and now you’re feeling drunk on something else and this one’s a secret, but the image of your pouting Tobio gives you visions of a future baby who pouts exactly like their father.

when your hands are cold he tries warming them up by blowing into them, but eventually gives up and just pouts and shoves your hands into his pockets.

as mentioned before, he loves decorating the christmas tree with you. has a large collection of ornaments as well, it's kinda scary.

christmas music is the only thing atsumu is listening to during decemeber. while he gets ready in the morning, doing homework, as he works out, you name it. he absolutely refuses to listen to anything else the whole 31 days.

atsumu bakes and decorates cookies with you!! you buy already pre-made cookie dough to save you and atsumu the hassle, but it always ends up chaotic anyways. atsumu tries to make various shaped cookies without using a cookie cutter since he feels he has more freedom without it and well, the cookies always end up spreading too much that you can't tell what it is. honestly not that bad at decorating with icing though, but they still sometimes come out questionable.

buys a fake mistletoe and hangs it on the front door so that you have to kiss him every time you leave the house. it's also an excuse to kiss you countless times everyday. atsumu believes he's an absolute mastermind for thinking this one up.

HINATA SHOYO

shoyo loves going out in the snow to build snowmen with you!! a majority of the time it just ends in you two having a snowball fight. he is absolutely heartbroken if someone destroys the snowman or whenever it melts.

ice skating!! since he has a great balance, he's a natural. he is actually a great teacher if you don't already know how to skate. goes slow and holds your hand the whole way. if you already know how to skate though, he playfully challenges you to a game of tag and immediately skates off before you get the chance to process what he said.

as much as he loves the outdoors and could honestly spend the whole day outside, it is quite the opposite during winter. shoyo enjoys staying inside during the rain/snow under the covers while watching christmas movies with you! his favorite christmas movie is definitely the polar express.

building forts!! a professional fort builder since his childhood. he makes them super cozy with a ton of blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals. shoyo also hangs christmas lights inside to make it all the more festive. the fort is also paired with a christmas movie marathon, hot chocolate, and other christmas snacks.

buys chocolate advent calendars for you guys!! he looks forward to seeing all the fun shaped chocolates everyday. gets a little sad at the end of the month, and wishes all holidays had advent calendars.

KAGEYAMA TOBIO

actually really good at decorating gingerbread houses. since his hands are so steady, the details are neat and precise. it honestly looks better than the one shown on the box.

simply going on walks in the snow and going to a cafe is one of tobio's favorite winter activities. holding each other's hands while stepping into the soft snow, and getting a nice, warm drink paired a pastry.

tobio gives you a shit ton of gifts, it's concerning. plans these gifts by listening to what you rant about wanting in previous weeks, asking your family/friends, and sneakily talk about stuff you would like. asks his sister for help on how to wrap the gifts, but they ultimately come out a little messy but he tried his best!

snow tubing is a must for tobio. he loves bundling up in warm clothes before, and makes sure you 100% are. you will not get sick on his watch!! he loves going tubing at night though since they have pretty colored lights on. tobio also attaches his tube to yours every time, because he likes seeing you smile and laugh throughout the ride.

buys multiple matching pajamas for you and him. varying from the abominable red flannel pajama pants, reindeer onesies, to grinch pajamas, tobio has it all.

you spend the holidays with your entire family, and he’s more than happy to let himself be dragged along. at some point, you lose him: there are dozens of people in the family home and, well, you should have expected this. eventually, you stumble across him, seated knee-to-knee with your grandmother, who has his hands in a vice-grip as she relates stories of years long-gone and asks all kinds of questions about him, his family, and your relationship. he catches you watching from the entry to the sitting room and flashes you a grin that says: you don’t need to worry about me.

the way he decorates your home for the holidays honestly puts disneyland to shame. it’s so coordinated, so meticulous, and you find yourself a little surprised that your boyfriend is so creative the first time you see a sparkling christmas tree taking up half your living room, or a spectacular hanukkah display shining in your window. he spends weeks planning, collecting, and decorating until he’s satisfied. a big reason why he does this is for you: he lives for the look on your face when your eyes go wide and the lights reflect in them, reminding him that you’re the most beautiful thing in the world.

kenma was happily logging on ready to stream on his youtube channel before he was hit with a copy right claim. it turns out he’d used ‘sicko mode’ in one of his fortnite streams and never gotten permission. thinking contacting the record label for permission seemed long winded, kenma shot travis himself a dm and travis fell hard! he thought kenma’s stoic face perfectly complimented his own and offered kenma permission and a dinner date and the two have been happy together since! these days kenma still streams but he helps coparent stormi with his lover travis while kylie’s busy slandering kenma and his stream on her instagram story between promoting her new line of kylie skin.

the queen of twitter clapbacks and the king of twitter burner accounts, these two had beef on one of chrissy’s threads, but it turns out the two were just a case of the typical enemies to lovers troupe! chrissy was actually impressed with sakusa’s wit and callouts and the two of them slowly became a twitter stan duo! after finally meeting, sakusa explained why he used burner accounts and suggested chrissy do the same as she keeps getting blocked, now the two of them harass controversial celebrities and anti’s and have several burner accounts logged in to continue the argument after getting their main ones blocked. petty but hot of them.

bokuto made his raging crush on oprah no secret and has been dedicating each one of his scores to her on live television. oprah got tagged in so many fan cams made by his loyal fans that she just had to notice him. oprah saw bokuto as a marketing opportunity at first because come on, he’s the himbo to her girlboss, what a media pleasing couple! bokuto was thrilled when oprah invited him to meet but since meeting, oprah’s fallen hard for bokuto’s infectious laughter and she’s found herself feeling young and free again. bokuto is just happy he’s somehow cuffed a nice woman with a big ass.

oikawa has had personal beef with mariah carey ever since she featured on his spread in volleyball weekly. he didn’t even know how she managed to get into it because the only sports she does is running and that’s only her mascara when a minor occurrence happens. he’s had twitter wars and been blocked on several social media platforms but he won’t stop until he’s satisfied. one night oikawa was ready to grow up and forget about it all until he ran into bryan, mariah’s boyfriend at a local convenience store. bryan was buying stuff that he’d tiredly said mariah had demanded and oikawa took this as the chance to finally get back at her for his highschool years. he told bryan not to bother and that he’d never boss him around the way mariah does. a tired, but grateful bryan gave in and the two have since found interests in gardening and guitar together leaving mariah scrambling to fix her tear stains before christmas just before her yearly relevancy comes back.

tags. timeskip!atsumu, gn!reader, a bit of cussing, all fluff ! with decemeber and the cold weather approaching, you decorate a christmas tree with your beloved boyfriend. / author's note. i love him like a lot!! haikyuu lovers are you still alive!!

atsumu's favorite holiday is christmas, without a doubt. the cold weather, decorating the house, gifts, staying inside and drinking hot chocolate, and his favorite of all, spending time with you and his family.

he starts decorating the house barely a day after thanksgiving has passed. and don't get him wrong, it's not that he doesn't like thanksgiving. he simply enjoys the christmas spirit better.

and now that you moved into his apartment, decorating will be a million times more fun. atsumu is already imagining it, and he's been waiting for this moment ever since you moved in july.

you watch him with a small smile as he sets up the tree and carefully places the soft rug underneath. he's smiling while doing this—a mixture of the feeling of finally decorating the house with you and his favorite time of year finally coming.

“let's go get the ornaments now ‘kay, baby?” he softly says and he stands up and grabs your hand, leading you to a closet where he stores his decorations and ornaments.

after a few rounds of going back and forth getting boxes and boxes of decorations, you and atsumu finally have all of them out and are ready to start dressing up the tree for the season.

atsumu prefers to have a more homey, traditional type decorations than fancy, glamorous decorations. as much as he's aware that he is more than financially stable enough to afford fancy christmas decorations, he enjoys a cozy christmas better.

suddenly, atsumu lets out one of his dramatic ass gasps as if he received the worst news of his life, which makes you jump and mumble out a “what?”

“we forgot to make hot chocolate!” atsumu blurts out as he runs into the kitchen.

you sigh before reluctantly following him into the kitchen as you grab two christmas themed mugs out of the cabinet. atsumu grabs the milk and hot chocolate packets and turns on the stove.

atsumu pours the milk into a pot before opening the pantry to grab a bag of marshmallows to top off your hot chocolates.

after about 5 minutes of the milk heating up on the stove, you carefully take the pot off the stove (with christmas themed oven mitts, mind you) before pouring equal amounts into yours and atsumu's mugs. he then adds in the hot chocolate powder and stirs it thoroughly before adding some whipped cream and marshmallows to the top your drinks before happily grabbing the two mugs and strutting back into the living room.

atsumu takes a sip of his hot chocolate before expertly wrapping the lights around the tree in 5 minutes tops. you knew atsumu loved christmas dearly, but to the point that he's an expert in all of these christmas activities scared you a little.

atsumu sorts through boxes and takes out his expected large collection of ornaments. “alright, let's get started! make sure you do not put two of the same size or shape ornament next to each other, baby. it does not look good.” he says in a stern, but sweet voice.

it seems like atsumu took tree decorating that seriously, but you didn't mind. you chuckle and let out a “yes, tsumu.” before grabbing a green and red ornament to place on the tree.

you carefully place the two ornaments on the branches of the tree, strategically making sure they were in adequate places.

from the corner of your eye, you see atsumu smiling from ear to ear and humming along to the christmas music you had playing in the background while hanging a few wooden ornaments shaped like candy canes, snowflakes, and snowmen.

as if on cue, atsumu turns his head to face you and says with a small smirk on his face,

“look baby, i know i'm attractive and all, but at least try to stare a little less obvious?” atsumu teases with a low laugh after.

“oh, shut up.” you grumble as you roll your eyes jokingly before grabbing an ornament with a photo of a familiar looking boy printed on it.

as you observe the ever so slightly messy paper ornament that seems to have been made during his elementary years, you can't help but smile at how cute atsumu was. his hair parted the same as it was in highschool, but still his natural brown hair color. his boyish features that you can still make out in his present handsome face.

“you know, you were really cute when you were younger, tsumu.” you say with a small laugh, still admiring the photo.

he sounded slightly flustered and nervous as he spoke. “y-yer saying i'm not cute now or what?”

“no.. you're handsome and cute now tsumu. and i've never really seen any of your childhood photos so.. i don't know, but you look so cute here.” you exclaim with a smile on your face.

atsumu surprising breaks eye contact with you, something he only does if he's flustered, a rare occurrence as well. he is typically the one flustering you, so when you fluster him it makes you giggle a little.

“s-shut up. the cute one here is obviously you.” atsumu grumbles out before turning away to grab another few ornaments, but truthfully to hide his face.

you chuckle at his flustered state. you knew atsumu was very hard to fluster, and he's usually the one flustering you, but that fact that you only called a childhood photo cute and nothing more is a little ironic.

“sure, tsumu.” you tease before following his lead and carefully grabbing more ornaments.

the soft sound of christmas music in the background, idly talking with atsumu about more possible holiday activities you could do throughout the month, and the smell of hot chocolate was the ideal way to spend the cold winter night with your boyfriend.

after about fifteen ornaments later, the tree was finally complete and looked amazing. an occasional classic glass ornament there, a few handmade ornaments there, and the subtle (but eye-catching) glow of the string lights tied it all together.

and now the final touch—the star on top. honestly, you don't know why atsumu decided to put the star last because the risk of him bumping into an ornament and it breaking and then the whole tree potentially falling made you worry a little.

it wasn't that you didn't trust atsumu. sometimes the laws of physics (and perhaps the wind of someone running by) have caused a few things to break here and there with your time living with atsumu.

sure, you could slowly hint and convince atsumu to let you place the star, but that doesn't seem possible since he is an avid christmas lover.

you're taken out of your thoughts at the sound of atsumu's voice.

“okay, so i have a few types of stars. which one should we use baby?”

you let out a mixture of a sigh and a chuckle before grabbing a simple, but does-the-job star.

“how about this one, tsumu?” you chirp, attempting to hide your concern.

“sure!” he says before grabbing the star from your hands as he steps on a stool.

“you sure you got it tsumu?” you hum as you look up at him, swearing he's shaking a little.

“yup. i got it, sweets. don't worry your pretty little head. i'm a professional at this.” atsumu says proudly, but his shakiness does not seem to settle down.

as you watch him on the stool, your concern slowly rises. you swear everything is moving in slow motion, and that the tree is going to fall down at any moment.

one moment later atsumu is dusting off his hands and stepping off the stool as if he does this in his everyday life.

atsumu then steps back and pulls you in by your shoulder before admiring the tree.

you're still slightly in shock as the tree did not fall over and your hard work did not go to waste—and oh the hassle it would be to clean the broken ornaments.

“thought the tree was gonna fall, angel? like i said, i'm a pro and i do this every year. dunno what you expected.” atsumu teases with a smirk on his face and pecking your cheek.

“I’ll make you some tea then we can go back to sleep how about that?” You nodded your head and slowly got up ‘your’ shirt sliding off your left shoulder. Osamu fixed it as you went to the kitchen and he wrapped his arms around you while you waited for the kettle to go off.

Giggling a little bit you said a little thank you shaking your head at the antics of the eldest Haiba. She walked over to the driver side of the car, setting the skates on the floor behind the driver’s seat, you began driving to the roller rink one of her hands on the steering wheel and the other holding your hand which she would bring up to her lips and kiss it.

#christmas headcanons with the haikyuu boys!!

#atsumu he probably forgot gifts were a thing. like he doesn’t get you one but you do and he’s like “lol why?” i don’t think he’s materialistic honestly. he already has everything he wants. he just wants you there with him and that’s enough, luv you are the gift. oh but you have to experience his holding in of the tears when he’s video calling osamu and the rest of his family. boy is really attached to them and is a softie for them. he starts to feel better after you both cuddle while watching movies.
