Transfem authors of fiction: a list
I wrote a version of this list in Swedish for a meatspace friend, figure I might redo it for a tumblr audience. The books recommended are usually novels, and in case of prolific authors, the one recommended is usually the most successful and acclaimed one. I haven't read all of these, but I'm working on it. The list is in alphabetical order after the author's last name. I added some notes to the list, to introduce the authors and their books.
Nota Bene this list is based on my personal research, and largely reflects my own tastes in fiction, as in what I've read and considered reading. And it is of course not at all complete. And it's a transfem authors list, so no transmasc authors no matter how worthy. And it's about authors of fiction, not memoirs or non-fiction. So no Christine Jorgensen, even if she wrote a book I want to read. And Jan Morris gets in based on her two Hav novels, not her more prolific non-fiction work. Links are to my reviews on this blog if they exist.
Anders, Charlie Jane - SF/F writer, debuted with Choir Boy (2005), but most famous for All The Birds in the Sky (which won a Nebula).
Aoki, Ryka - her latest sf/f novel Light from Uncommon Stars is her most popular, but she has published both fiction and poetry before.
Becker, Saga - Våra Tungor Smakar våld (Swedish author, her book is untranslated, although quite good)
Binnie, Imogen - Nevada
Daniels, April - Dreadnought and its sequel Sovereign. Novels about a teenage trans girl superhero.
Deane, Maya - Wrath Goddess Sing
Felker-Martin, Gretchen - Manhunt (horror novel)
Kaveney, Roz - Tiny Pieces of Skull (also wrote the Rhapsody of Blood fantasy series, plus numerous poetry collections and non-fiction)
Kiernan, Caitlin R. - Usually categorized as a horror author, written numerous novels and short stories since her debut novel SIlk in 1998. The most acclaimed are probably her novels The Red Tree and The Drowning Girl (which won the Bram Stoker Award)
Leitz, May - Fluids and Girlflesh (review forthcoming)
Morris, Jan - Hav (mostly wrote non-fiction, history books and travel literature, Hav is an omnibus of her two novels about Hav, both "imagined travelogues" about a fictitious country)
Peters, Torrey - Detransition Baby
Plett, Casey - Little Fish (Lambda award winner)
Pollack, Rachel - Prolific writer of several kinds of books, including a pioneering career as a sf/f writer. Did her fictional debut with a short story in a 1971 anthology (credited under her deadname) and published her first novel Golden Vanity in 1980, which are literally the earliest pieces of fiction by an out trans person (not memoir or non-ficton) I've been able to find. So very much a pioneer. Her most acclaimed book is probably Godmother Night (1996) which won the World Fantasy Award. Also wrote comics, most notably Doom Patrol.
Rumfitt, Alison - Tell me I'm Worthless
Serano, Julia - 99 Erics (her debut as a novelist after years of pioneering transfeminist writing and poetry)
Thornton, Jeanne - Summer Fun (Lambda award winner)

The body and the archive
Tumblr media
THE BODY AND THE ARCHIVE HOW TO
There’s an element of titillation to having women’s bodies on stage, but when it’s mens’ it takes that away from the men in the audience a bit."ĬB: "Also, it’s illegal. I suppose people are more used to seeing women’s bodies. It brought out something quite horrible in people, but women's bodies were much more ‘acceptable’. Then doing it with a man, people were outraged and did really horrible things like throwing lighted cigarettes at the boys. When we did performances in nightclubs sometimes it was just us three as women, and that was all right. JB: "I think the performances were quite hard for the men, I think they became more vulnerable than us. WJ: "We just used to turn up at a nightclub naked and everyone would go 'great, the Neo Naturists are here!' Doing that now, we'd probably be arrested." Everything we did and the way we lived in the squat was all about creativity. I only lived in the squat for three years and that period was really intense in terms of exhibiting our work as artists, and doing the cabaret and making films. JB: "Everything is ups and downs though, isn’t it? I thought it was an amazing time. I’m worried about this sort of heyday thing and romanticising the past and all that, but I’m a lot happier now than I was then, just generally in myself and how I find ways to express myself." We did it all on instinct."ĬB: "I don’t want to be part of the illusion that it was all wonderful, but I went along with it and at times I think I was really unhappy. JB: "At the time there was a big crossover between what we did as artists, and what we did in life. On what it was really like being a Neo Naturist… It was part of a whole thing about seeing how far we could go." Then we thought ‘let's get even more extreme and just not dress’. For a year I dressed as Marie Antoinette. WJ: "We’d been through the punk thing, which became a bit negative to say the least, then the New Romantics thing, and we were dressing more and more extremely.
THE BODY AND THE ARCHIVE HOW TO
There wasn’t much talk about careers or how to get recognised." When you left art college you didn’t really know what to do. Jennifer Binnie: "I think also, there wasn’t any other way for us at the time. I remember thinking ‘that’s really not fair, how come those men are allowed to go on stage and just have fun showing off, and I’m not allowed to?’ That was one of the things that led me to performance art." I remember going to the Black Cap and seeing these men on stage with their bosoms Sellotaped together to give them cleavages, and coming on stage, having a lovely time, and just showing off. One of the inspirations behind starting Neo Naturists, for me, was transvestites. But with us, we'd all paint each other: it’s not just about being a painted body, but the process of how we get ready and what we do with it afterwards. So we were turning that around."Ĭhristine Binnie: "In Yves Klein’s work he had models painted, but they were just models, and it was his art. Historically in art the woman is the model and the muse, and not the person who’s actually making the work about their naked bodies. Wilma Johnson: "Part of the thing of doing the Neo Naturists was using women as women, rather than their being a sort of object. Among their associates were leading lights in the club kid gay scene, from filmmaker Derek Jarman and dancer and choreographer Michael Clark, to performance artist Leigh Bowery, as well as art world characters like Grayson Perry, Jennifer’s boyfriend at the time. What’s more, the Neo Naturists lived as alternative a lifestyle as their artwork would suggest, living in squats and parading around in clubs like Heaven, Taboo and The Blitz. Together, they broached political ideas around society, austerity and the female body in the most joyous way imaginable. “Then I painted her.” Both Jennifer and Wilma had studied fine art, at Portsmouth University and Central Saint Martin’s respectively, while Christine turned to craft, focusing on pottery. Christine was a life model, and when Wilma set about drawing her, "it only took half a day for her to be painting my body, and not just a picture of me," Christine explains. It all came about fairly organically, the trio explains. Over the course of a five-year period in the early 1980s, the Neo Naturists took their naked, painted bodies out onto the street and into nightclubs, creating their own unique brand of performance art. The group’s main members were Christine Binnie, Jennifer Binnie and Wilma Johnson, and its raison d’être was deliberately bold and hippyish – a daring move at a time when to be a hippy was deeply unfashionable. Anarchic, nude and vitally, vibrantly fun, 1980s performance group the Neo Naturists were a glorious tits-out reprise to Thatcherite Britain, to stiff upper lips and to art world po-faces.

Notes taken during the Grayson Perry podcasts. (1/2)
Research into Grayson Perry - Life: Perry was born 1960 in Essex, England to a working-class family, of which Perry admits had its fair share of problems. At four years old, his father left after finding out his mother was having an affair with the milkman, who his mother eventually married. Though, Perry has said that this man was violent towards him, his sister and his mother. Because of these misfortunes, he lived an unhappy childhood, using a fantasy world involving his teddy bear as a coping mechanism. Perry believes that the experiences one has at a young age are noticeable in later adulthood, his of which affected his sexuality and sense of identity. From an early age he liked to dress in stereotypically women's clothes and in his teens realised that he was a transvestite. When he was 15, he lived with his father’s family in Chelmsford, this is when he began to dress as a woman. His father did not approve, and although Perry said he would stop, his stepmother told those around and thus his father threw him out. Leaving him no choice but to return to live with his mother and stepfather in Essex, who were no more impressed by him.
Perry pursued art after the backing from his art teacher, he took part in an art foundation course at Braintree College of Further Education form 1978 to 1979. Most of his education took place at Portsmouth College of Art and Design for BA in fine art, he graduated in 1982. Perry experimented with pottery and exhibited his first piece at a New Contemporaries show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London in 1980. After graduation, Perry got involved with The Neo Naturists, a group birthed by Christine Binnie to bring around the “true sixties spirit”, of which involved living one’s life rather naked and portraying it occasionally in performance where body paint was always involved. His family troubles did not cease, and when he moved away, his step-father told him to “not come back”, the damage within Perry and his parents relationship was so deep, that when his mother died, he did not attend her funeral. As of now, he lives with his wife, author and psychotherapist PhilippaPerry, together they have a daughter Florence who’s as born in 1992.
Perry is most noticeable for his alter-ego “Claire”, who he expresses as dressing in a feminine style. He explains Claire is “a 19th century reforming matriarch, a middle-England protester for No More Art, an aero-model-maker, or an Eastern European Freedom Fighter", and "a fortysomething woman living in a Barratt home, the kind of woman who eats ready meals and can just about sew on a button". His choice of style while as Claire is what is most eye catching, it’s typically artistic, bright, mix and match fabric and all over oozing with visual interest. Perry utilises his alter ego and includes her within his work, dressing himself in stereotypical ’womans’ clothing: for example Mother of All Battles (1996) is a photograph of Claire holding a gun and wearing a dress, in ethnic eastern European style, embroidered with images of war, exhibited at his 2002 Guerrilla Tactics show. Grayson design Claire’s outfits himself, although fashion students at Central Saint Martins art college in London also get involved occasionally, through an annual design competition.
On a more personal note, he enjoys motor biking a travelling. Perry supports the Labour Party, who he has designed works of art to help raise their funds. In 2015, Perry endorsed Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign during their leadership election. Perry said he would support Corbyn as he was “doing something interesting for the political debate” and is quoted saying “I think he’s gold.”. However, in 2018 Perry said that Jeremy Corbyn had “no chance of winning an election”.
Art Process: Grayson Perry has a multitude of skills, including but not limited to; ceramics, tapestries, documentaries, podcasts, writing and lectures. As for Ceramics, here are a variety of examples: In 2002, the Stedelijik Museum in Amsterdam mounted his Guerrilla Tactics , which was partly responsible for his winning of the Turner Prize in 2003, the first to be given to a ceramic artist. His work references the traditional ceramic ways, particularly involving Greek Pottery and folk art. He’s been quoted saying "I like the whole iconography of pottery. It hasn't got any big pretensions to being great public works of art, and no matter how brash a statement I make, on a pot it will always have certain humility ... For me the shape has to be classical invisible: then you've got a base that people can understand". His methods consist of coiling, which is quite traditional, when finished they typically have a omelet surface using various techniques, which include glazing, incision, embossing and the use of photographic transfers. He has he uses these methods not for decoration, but to give meaning. Perry question the idea of pottery being exclusively decorative or utilitarian and cannot be used to express ideas, and this rebellion can really be seen within his ceramic pieces. Perry uses his work as a vessel to reference his upbringing, mostly his stepfathers anger and the absence of a reliable male in his life to provide guidance. ‘Using My Family’ in 1998 is a good example of this, where it is a teddy bear giving affection, and the piece ‘the Guardians’ which are of his mother and stepfather. Perry’s work commonly contains sexually explicit content, as well as child abuse, such as ‘We’ve Found the Body Of Your Child’ 2000. He uses strong juxtaposition with decorative cliches, as well as the technique ‘guerrilla tactic’, using the approachable medium of pottery in order to provoke thought and challenge traditional thoughts.
As for tapestries, Perry crafted a 15m x 3m tapestry called “The Walthamstow Tapestry” in 2009, which bears hundreds of brand names encompassing large figures in the stages of life, from birth to death. perry even made pair of large-scale tapestries for A House of Essex, together named ‘the Essex House Tapestries: The Life of Julie Cope” (2015). The work was completed on a holiday home in Wrabness Essex, along with the collaboration of Fashion Architecture Taste (FAT). It overlooks the River Stour, after a commission from Living Architecture, the charity founded by the philosopher Alain de Botton. The house tell the story of Julie May Cope, a fictional Essex woman who was "Born in a flood-struck Canvey Island in 1953 and mown down last year by a curry delivery driver in Colchester". Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Ellis Woodman said, "Sporting a livery of green and white ceramic tiles, telephone-box red joinery and a gold roof, it is not easy to miss. ... Decoration is everywhere: from the external tiles embossed with motifs referencing Julie's rock-chick youth to extravagant tapestries recording her life's full narrative. Perry has contributed ceramic sculptures, modelled on Irish Sheelanagigs, which celebrate her as a kind of latter-day earth mother while the delivery driver's moped has even been repurposed as a chandelier suspended above the double-height living room." A large and varied amount of work by Perry is within this house, depicting Julie Cop’s life. Including a series of large-scale tapestries, The Essex House Tapestries: The Life of Julie Cope, which include "A Perfect Match" (2015) and "In Its Familiarity, Golden" (2015), and for the bedrooms, "Julie and Rob" (2013) and "Julie and Dave" (2015). He also wrote an essay, "The Ballad of Julie Cope" (2015) and created a series of black and white woodcuts, Six Snapshots of Julie (2015). The work was shown in an exhibition, Grayson Perry: The Life of Julie Cope, at Firstsite in Colchester, Essex, from January to February 2018.
Perry has been in a multitude of documentaries, talking people through his experiences and how this has shaped his journey through life. In 2005, Perry presented a Channel 4 documentary, Why Men Wear Frocks, in which he examined transvestism and masculinity at the start of the 21st century. The documentary won a Royal Television Society award for best network production. He also has a three part series made with Channel 4, made in 2012, ‘All In The Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry’, analysing the ideas help within different social classes through the UK. In 2014, he presented a three-part documentary onChannel 4 ‘Who Are You?’, which explores identity. In it he creates diverse portraits for the National Portrait Gallery, London, of ex-MP Chris Huhne, Rylan Clark-Neal from The X Factor, a Muslim convert and a young transgender man. Again with Channel 4, he discussed masculinity with ‘Grayson Perry: All Man”. Perry has even more documentaries and discussion projects, which I highly recommend.
Grayson Perry i also well experienced with writing, he was an art correspondent for The Times, writing a weekly column until October 2007. He guest edited an issue of New Statesman in 2014, entitled "The Great White Male Issue". Perry gave the 2013 BBC Reith Lectures. In a series of talks titled Playing to the Gallery, he considered the state of art in the 21st century. The individual lectures, titled "Democracy Has Bad Taste", "Beating the Bounds", "Nice Rebellion, Welcome In!" and "I Found Myself in the Art World", were broadcast in October and November 2013 on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service. He expanded the lectures into a book, Playing to the Gallery: Helping Contemporary Art in its Struggle to Be Understood (2014). In 2017 Perry gave the inaugural Orwell Lecture in the North for The Orwell Foundation, entitled "I've read all the academic texts on empathy".
It’s clear to see that Grayson is vastly experienced artist, who’s style, art and intelligence is worth the ponder. I thoroughly enjoyed researching Perry, specifically these wonderful podcasts which I found easy and intriguing to listen to.

Maker’s name: Margaret Cassie
Petition sheet number: 54
Person honouring: Annie Binnie
Relationship to maker: Great-great-grandmother
Annie Hill was born in January 1838 in Wigan, Lancashire, England, daughter of Sarah and Thomas Hill. Her father died when she was two; her mother married Robert Murdoch when Annie was four.
At the age of 21, Annie’s mother gave her a book of poetry, beautifully inscribed.
Annie married mechanic Robert Binnie in July 1863, in Wiltshire, England. They had two daughters, Laura Roberta and Christine Isabel (my great-grandmother), while living in Banbury, Oxfordshire, and before emigrating to New Zealand.
In August 1878, Annie, her daughters and her parents, sailed from Gravesend in the Dunedin, arriving at Port Chalmers in November. With Robert, who had arrived earlier, Annie settled on a smallholding, ‘Craigieburn’ on Upper Junction Road, Mt Cargill, near Port Chalmers. The large macrocarpa trees they planted still stand along the roadway after 140 years.
We know little about Annie’s life here other than that she was a strong woman who loved her girls, believed in education, and was an accomplished needlewoman. She signed the petition in 1893 at George St, Dunedin.
In 1899 she won a medal for her ‘Collection of Fancy Sewing’. Examples of her lace, beading, sewing, and embroidery exist today.
Aged 16, Christine Isabel, Annie’s younger daughter, attended Otago Girls’ High School and Dunedin Teachers College before taking up teaching – before marrying Nicholas Dodds in 1889. Christine owned land in her name and signed the 1892 petition.
Laura, Annie’s elder daughter, never married; she continued to live with her parents and grandparents at Craigieburn.
Annie died in 1905, at Craigieburn, aged 67, and was buried in Port Chalmers.
Her four grandchildren were all born before she died. They lived nearby in Port Chalmers – there is a treasured photo of Annie, her mother, her daughter Christine, and my grandmother (Dorothy Maude Dodds).
Panel materials: Stylised pink corset, based on a note from Annie asking for her pink corset. Fabrics, beads, and threads mostly stash. Lace from a box (some dyed using food dye) of lace, which dates back to Annie. The main lace is handmade needle lace, apparently a fine example, and I suspect made by Annie, who was an extraordinary needlewoman. 64 beads represent the women who signed the sheet, and Annie’s exquisite beading work still in the family.
Unique ID number: VRS.2019.474

PSA World Champs Released
The draws for the 2018/19 PSA World Champs have been announced today, and will take place between February 23 - March 2.
128 of the world’s greatest male and female squash players will descend on Chicago for the most prestigious title in squash as they battle for a record prize purse of $1 million, which is the highest in the sport’s history.
Defending men’s champion and current World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy has been drawn against England’s Joshua Masters in round one and is featured on the same side of the draw as three-time winner Ramy Ashour.
ElShorbagy and Ashour contested both the 2012 and 2014 finals - both of which are regarded as two of the greatest squash matches of all time - and could potentially meet in the semi-finals.
Ashour - who is yet to play this season due to a knee injury - will play Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly in round one. The Egyptian is unseeded for the first time since the 2006 World Champs.
World No.2 Ali Farag is seeded on the opposite side of the draw and he will take on England’s Daryl Selby in round one. Farag has the likes of Peru’s Diego Elias and New Zealand’s Paul Coll in his path to the final, while he is predicted to play World No.3 Simon Rösner in the semi-finals. The Ladies
Reigning women’s World Champion and world number 1 Raneem El Welily begins her tournament against South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller as she bids to continue her strong start to the season, which has seen her take two PSA titles so far.
The 30-year-old was thwarted in the final of this tournament in 2014 and 2016, but finally got her hands on the trophy in December 2017 courtesy of a 3-1 victory against two-time winner Nour El Sherbini in Manchester. They are seeded to do battle in the title decider once again.
El Welily is predicted to meet World No.3 Nour El Tayeb in the semi-finals, but El Tayeb must come through a difficult draw which contains 2013 World Champion Laura Massaro if she is to play to her seeding.
Meanwhile, El Sherbini begins her tournament against Satomi Watanabe of Japan and is predicted to play United States No.1 Amanda Sobhy in a mouthwatering third round fixture.
In addition to prize winnings totalling over $72,000, the winner of the World Championships will also qualify for the season-ending PSA World Tour Finals, which pits together the reigning World Champions and all seven PSA World Tour Platinum winners.
The 2018/19 PSA World Championships will take place at Chicago’s Union Station, while matches from rounds one and two will also be held at MetroSquash and the University Club of Chicago.

My girls <3
I’ve been seeing the ummmmandy pictures circulating around tumblr so I decided to make my eight main teen girls (yes, my novel has a HUGE cast) from The Mastery! I tend to make more male characters but these lovelies hold their ground. I tend to split my characters based in decade groups, and I can assure you, the twenties and forties groups contain a lot of awesome ladies too :) Maybe I’ll make more if people would like to see them?
P.S. Part of the lore of the series is that most people have a multi-ethnic background. Those who have a largely homogeneous background are either odd instances or come from non-accepting families. So most characters have a very diverse ethnic mix, hence why I haven’t added their background to the list.
In order of appearance:
BOOK 1 ONWARDS
Tumblr media
Miriam Arnette- 15, Vanskan, Bisexual (leans more towards girls but has a crush on a dumbass boy rn help her).
Third in line to the Vanskan Empire, Miriam can excel as a diplomatic leader when needed. However, you’ll usually find her being her smug, sassy, sardonic self. She’s extremely future-oriented, which means she doesn’t deal with her demons from the past. Despite this, she has the ability to graphically revisit historical events, which ends up haunting her since she hasn’t dealt with said issues. As the main female character (hence why she has a circle of DOMINANCE), she’ll work through these issues to develop herself into a more stable, developed person, as well as rising to the role of leadership.
Tumblr media
Meline ‘Leenie’ Ishikawa- 16, Inglan, Heterosexual.
Meline and Miriam spent the years preceding the series as best friends due to relating to each other’s grief. While much more feminine and empathetic than her friend, Meline can also be a badass at times too- she’s awesome at tennis and there’s more to her than her pretty girl facade. That’s a main feature of her role in the novel; after her and Miriam clash at the beginning and throughout the series, what happens to her?
Tumblr media
Bianna ‘Binny’ Bickley- 17, Willsborgian, Pansexual (soon begins dating the lovable bean that is Aiden Donegall).
Binny is the Head Girl of Schwillbrokt Academy of Talented Youths, the school where a lot of the teenage characters attend. She’s approachable, intelligent and ambitious. Basically, she’s set up to become a hugely successful girl and is the one who you love to hate because she seems perfect. However, her eventual relationship with Aiden puts her in a position where she loses a lot of her freedoms since she’s joined one of the most traditionalist Master families. Does she use her natural social skills to sort out the fam and tell them to accept her own decisions?
Tumblr media
Christine Aastergard- 19, Norikan, Heterosexual (has a friend who she’s like an old married couple with but are they official? Nobody knows).
Chris was only little when she was separated from her biological family, and eventually got adopted by the ominous Taisto Aastergaard. She’s very emotionally aware (unlike ‘boyf’ who is a plank of wood) and extraverted; if the situation isn’t serious, she’s the life of the party. She’s highly perceptive which makes her a talented combatant since, y’know, she’s fighting in a war right now. She’s relatively minor in Arc 1 but will be a major character for a few chapters in Book 4!
Tumblr media
Cherrie Xu- 17, Inglan, Lesbian. Is she a single pringle or is she hiding a girlf?
So, Cherrie recently decided she wants to be a main character in Arc 2?? Okay.
Anyway, I’m Arc 1, she plays a minor role as a whistleblower. She’ll be respectful about it rather than publicly humiliating people, but Cherrie will call you out if she smells bs. When she doesn’t have to sort out her moping cousin or other family drama, Cherrie is chill. She’s rather calm when she talks, but would be the sort to do surprisingly well in Cards Against Humanity. In Arc 2, she’ll develop a role as a diplomat...which could go either really well or terribly depending on what issues she’s dealing with.
Tumblr media
Aria Vahi- 18, Norikan, Heterosexual (with a strong, silent, PROTECTIVE boyf).
Sweet, sweet Aria. Grand Master of Norika, an Empire embroiled in a civil war. It’s not her fault- the opposition wanted to overthrow her because she became leader at thirteen rather than because she’s doing a bad job! She’s very sweet and optimistic despite the circumstances. The war is just a thing going on in the background in Arc 1 (my side story Fracturing Fraternity focuses on it however!) but in Arc 2, her and Miriam form a close bond being young leaders. She’s an absolute ray of sunshine and is deeply in love with her strong silent bodyguard Hugo!
Tumblr media
Willow Burakgazi- 16, Maneyan, sexuality unknown!
Willow is a character who I’ve slotted in last minute, so she hasn’t had too much development yet (or even appeared, she’s only been mentioned thus far). Since she’s the younger sister of Maneya’s heir and spare, she has quite a lot of free time which she dedicates to study. Willow’s main passion is to persue an education and hopefully become Dr. Burakgazi in the future, but she’s also an empathetic sweetheart. However, due to her mind being on her education and what she’s been reading, she’s also prone to zoning out and is a little clumsy!
Tumblr media
Eliora Veisi- 16, Central Empirian, Bisexual (she is more physically attracted to girls but then ends up head over heels for her male equivalent).
Elioraaaaaaaa. She hasn’t actually appeared in the series yet but I love her 💞💞💞
Based on first impressions, you’d expect her to be a popular. She’s big on her appearance and always has designer clothing. In reality, her mother designed clothes and she’s used to dressing up as she modelled them! Behind her appearance, she’s actually a huge nerd. She’s obsessed with the Master’s to the point that her Master friends think she’s knows more about them than they know about themselves. In Arc 2, she ends up getting to know a few main characters and due to her knowledge and impartiality, she ends up managing to sort out a lot of situations. However, due to her knowledge being only from books rather than experience, she can also seem naive and too optimistic in situations.

channel.nationalgeographic.com/mars
It is human nature to thrive on connection. We are on a constant search to feel linked to the world around us, to find a place where we belong and take refuge there. So what happens when we feel like an outsider? What happens when the lines of “home” are blurred and you aren’t sure where you fit in this world?
“Before Mars” is a heartwarming narrative that explores the themes of self discovery, belonging and family. For those of us who have a wanderer’s soul, our idea of “home” is one that can constantly change. But there is one thing that remains the same, at the end of the day, no matter where our adventures lead us, we can always find our home with the ones we love.
