ASDFGHJKL there was another new zealand ‘geography’ question in the latest trivial pursuit, and jeremy pronounced dunedin like “doon-din” (as opposed to “duhn-ee-din”) and it both pains and pleases me 😂
#me stuff#dunedin is where i live atm lmaooo#:’)#the question was basically ‘which city is known as the city of sails’#out of auckland / christchuch / wellington / dunedin#(i knew it was auckland before the options showed up lmao that’s mah hometown :D)#sorry i just love when new zealand stuff is in AH content#theres actually quite a few questions about/including us in trivial pursuit?#like we’ve been mentioned more than once haha :p

I visited Christchuch once; I went to New Zealand for two weeks and had a dinky little car that took me all over the North and South Islands, though mostly I lingered in the South, driving aimlessly for the most part. This was in the heady days before GPS or smartphones so it was me and a map and a cassette (remember those, kiddos?) of Norah Jones, wandering around.
I almost skipped Christchurch; there wasn’t much in the guidebook about it, nothing particularly noteworthy. And in truth I can’t remember very much about the city itself; a few nice stone buildings, a particular street that I can clearly visualize in my head but have no idea what its name is, that’s about it.
In fact, I’ve almost forgotten stopping to get some gas and (even though I’d already done it before) not quite understanding how the process should work there. And a very cheerful couple filling up next to me helped me out and joked about how I had definitely taken a wrong turn somewhere to end up in New Zealand, of all places!
But last night I remembered them; the woman’s bright blue hijab causing her some problems in the wind, the way neither of our accents were like the ones around us. I don’t know their names and I’ll never know if they’re all right; but I suspect they aren’t.
x
#I kept trying to figure out how to write this in a less 'and the waitress's name? Albert Einstein' sort of way#or in a less 'I met this really nice Muslim couple in NZ and therefore you should care about this' sort of way#because I know people don't need personal connection to care#but there are things that are too much#too hard not to feel#anyway

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is urging people to remember the names of those who have fallen, and never utter the name of the person who killed them. She spoke powerful words as she led the condolences for the Christchurch terrorist attack victims in Parliament today. Jacinda Ardern has shown compassion & she deserves total respect for the way she has dealt with the aftermath of the attacks. PLEASE WRITE PACIFIC RIM SYMMARAH!!
Lotus Fury was Satya’s baby, her passion project, her magnum opus, and it was nearly scrapped and cannibalized for other Jaeger projects.
Too much experimental tech, they said, too complicated to pilot, too flimsy in comparison to other Jaegers, and most damning of all, was a rumor had started among the candidate pool that its drift didn’t seem to work like any other Jaegers. Pair after pair desynchronized, some chasing the rabbit, unable to maintain a stable drift with each other while interfacing with the Lotus.
Only one candidate could maintain herself in the drift, and that was Fareeha Amari, but her drift partner, her mother Ana, chased the rabbit into a traumatic memory, and both stated they would ‘never get in that thing again.’
Lotus Fury was a dancer, a warrior, an artist, an olympian. She was grace and desperation, rage and tranquility, and ultimately, balance... for those who knew how to use her. Hard-light shield, photon hook whip, shoulder, chest, and wrist mounted missiles, all fitted on a remarkably slim frame with the most advanced gyroscopics ever put on any Jaeger. Satya wondered if anyone would ever see what she saw in it.
Then the Rift spewed forth a simultaneous destroyer and salvation–a category four, codenamed “Scylla.” The Jaeger Ryu Whiskey had been sent out to stop it from making landfall in Christchuch, New Zealand. The battle had been waging for hours, and things were not going well.
“They’re going to die,” one technician murmured next to Satya in the mess hall as all eyes were glued to the screen. Satya didn’t finish her lunch. She took a brisk walk through the Auckland shatterdome to where Lotus Fury was all bound up in clamps and cables, and hastily crossed the catwalk toward the head of the jaeger.
“You can’t pilot it alone,” a voice came from behind her and she stopped.
She turned on her heel to see Fareeha Amari several feet away on the catwalk.
“…Thought someone who builds these things would know that much,” Fareeha added a bit more quietly.
“I built her. I can bypass it,” said Satya, turning on her heel and continuing to walk to the Jaeger, “She’s smaller than most Jaegers. Should take longer for the neural load to kill me. Enough time to make it count.”
“W-wait, are you serious!?” Fareeha hurried after her, “Even if the strain doesn’t kill you, that Kaiju will! Ryu Whiskey’s had 8 successful drops, the record fastest takedown on a category 3, and it’s getting its ass handed to it out there!”
“So it needs backup,” said Satya, entering several security bypass codes to enter the pilot lockers. She started putting on the circuitry suit.
“You’re insane,” said Fareeha.
“Insanity is standing around and doing nothing while that Kaiju gets closer and closer to Christchurch,” said Satya, putting on armor before turning around, “…would you mind….?” she held up the magnetic interface for the spine.
“I’m not letting you do this,” said Fareeha, “You’re a Jaeger architect, not a pilot.”
“39 successful drops in simulations,” said Satya, circling her wrist in her drivesuit gauntlet. “The problem isn’t Lotus Fury, the problem is the pilots.”
“What makes you so sure there’s nothing wrong with your design?” said Fareeha.
Satya held a spare drivesuit helmet out to Fareeha. “Do you want me to prove it to you?” she asked.
“What makes you think we’re drift compatible?” said Fareeha.
“You’ve followed me, you’ve argued with me, the simplest solution would be to call security on me to keep me from getting in that Jaeger, but you haven’t. Just as much a fight as a conversation. We aren’t exactly wielding bo staffs, but isn’t that how you pilots determine these things?”
Fareeha opened her moth for a rebuttal, then closed it, then took the helmet.
“Just to get Ryu Whiskey out of that mess,” said Fareeha.
“Of course,” said Satya.
—–
For Fareeha, drifting with Satya wasn’t like drifting with her mother, there was no venn diagram of memories, but two paths laid in parallel. There were images of a crowded street and so much terrible noise and filth—so much filth–how could a collective mass of people like this stand it—Then there were books, sanctuary, order. Creation as control. Then Kaijus attacking. The world needed builders. Fareeha’s memories rushed on Satya like a storm, then eventually had the sensation of wind around her, not overwhelming, but a feature of her environment. A mother’s embrace, the smells of kushari and sweat and gunpowder, the impact of fist on punching bag, arguments, orders being barked in her face, post-attack memorials. And god there was Lotus Fury herself. Pharah only felt something like what Satya felt for the Lotus when experiencing her own mother’s memories of holding an infant Fareeha in her arms. Their memories converged on one image, a pair of small hands wrapped around a candle. Neither of them could really recall whose memory it was before they surfaced from the rush of memories to the sound of a computerized voice announcing, “Neural Handshake successful.”
Satya and Fareeha made eye contact with each other, then both brought their hands up, balled one hand in a fist, and punched the palm of their other hand, wrapping the fingers of the Jaeger around its fist. A voice came over the intercom in a roar outside their Jaeger.
“This is Commander Morrison. Neither of you are authorized to pilot that Jaeger. Return to your posts immediately.
“All due respect sir, but Christchurch is in danger and Shimada and McCree need our help,” said Fareeha.
“Amari!?” Morrison spoke, “I thought you said you were never getting in that thing again!”
“Not a lot of room for ‘Nevers’ in the apocalypse, sir,” said Fareeha.
There was a pause on the other line. “You’ve got a stable drift?” said Morrison.
In perfect sync, Satya and Pharah brought up Lotus Fury’s hard-light shield and angled it in front of the Jaeger.
“Perfect harmony,” said Satya.
Morrison let out a weary exhale. “I’ll get the transports prepped,” he said, “Best of luck out there.”
—
“We’ve got thoracic and epaxial hull breaches! Right arm is dead!” McCree shouted over the comms as Ryu Whiskey fired several plasma charges onto the charging Kaiju with its one viable arm. The cockpit of the Jaeger was a mess of sparks and alarms and screens blaring red warnings. McCree’s armor painfully sparked along his neck and shoulder. “Han! Any time you wanna wake up from that nap of yours would be fine with me!”
Hanzo was unconscious, a trickle of blood visible through the visor of his helmet as he hung limply suspended by the the Jaeger’s spinal interface.
“Left Hemisphere pilot is still unresponsive,” said McCree, his voice hollow.
“Remain calm, McCree, Shimada’s vitals are still stable,” Morrison spoke over the comms, “We’re sending in your backup now.”
“I thought Seraph Retsu was still under repairs!” said McCree.
“It’s not Seraph Retsu,” said Morrison.
“Say what now?” said McCree. The Kaiju, only briefly slowed by the plasma blasts, leapt at Ryu Whiskey and McCree raised the Jaeger’s one remaining arm and braced for impact.
Except the impact never came. Scylla made a choking sound, a glowing bright blue chord wrapped and burning around its thick neck. The kaiju opened its squid-like beak in a half-choked scream and McCree saw that the blue chord was attached to the hand of a narrow-framed cerulean Jaeger.
“What in the goddamn…?” McCree started when the cerulean Jaeger yanked back and on its plasma whip and hauled the kaiju off its feet before punching the kaiju in the face and firing a wrist mounted missile into the Kaiju’s head at the same time. Scylla fell, kaiju blue staining the water around both jaegers.
“Lotus Fury, reporting,” Fareeha and Symmetra spoke at the same time over the comms as the cerulean jaeger waved at a worse-for-wear Ryu Whiskey.
“…to be fair we softened it up for you,” said McCree.

Spending 13 days in Middle Earth, New Zealand
One word in my mind about NZ “Spectacular”.
Day 1, 21 February 2017
Day 2, 22 February 2017
Day 3, 23 February 2017
“Christchuch Gallery”
Hmmm beli quota aja udah nguras kantong hahaha.
Day 4, 24 February 2017
Setelah melakukan sedikit perjalanan, akhirnya perut mulai terasa lapar.
Day 5, 25 February 2017
“Tarate Tunnels, Callery Gorge”
“Franz Josef Glacier Valley Walk”
Day 6, 26 February 2017
“That Wanaka Tree”
Day 7, 27 February 2017
Yaaaap hari yang di tunggu-tunggu akhirnya datang juga, hari ini kami akan pergi menuju Queenstown, as we know that Queenstown is the capital city for adrenaline hunters.
Day 8, 28 February 2017
“ Bungee Jumping at Kawarau Bridge”
Untuk biaya gondola for adult $35.
Day 9, 1 Maret 2017
The eighth wonder of the world” yaitu trip to Milford Sound.

Moment yob smashes up mosque during night of carnage
This is the moment a yob was filmed smashing up the windows of a mosque in Birmingham in a late-night rampage.
The mosque targeted is in Perry Barr and was one of five in the city to be vandalised last night with anti-terror officers investigating.
Muslim worshippers in the city say they are afraid to bring the children to prayers after the attacks, which took place less than a week after the Christchurch massacre.
ITV News has obtained CCTV footage of what appears to be one of five attacks on mosques in Birmingham overnight. A man can be seen walking along Broadway, Perry Barr, in the early hours of the morning, before swinging an object at the building https://t.co/zHfPQ5i7DV pic.twitter.com/cXNhSJj1Sn

The video footage shows a man with a hat and his face covered walking towards the mosque in the early hours.
He is carrying an object in his hand and uses it to smash a window of the mosque.
Five mosques in the city were attacked in total last night.
They are on Albert Road, Birchfield Road, Slade Road, the Broadway and Witton Road in the city.

A concerned parent told Sky News that he no longer ‘felt safe taking his five year old to prayers’.
The attack at the Witton Road Islamic Centre in Witton, saw seven windows and two doors smashed up.
The mosque’s imam says that the attack took place between 1.30am and 2am with West Midlands Police saying they were alerted to the other attacks throughout the night.
Officers were called to the mosque on Birchfield Road at 2.32am before realising that the attack had happened earlier.

At 3.14am, they were alerted to a similar attack at the mosque on Slade Road, Erdington.
Police then began patrols in areas with mosques and came across the other damaged buildings.
Forensic officers are working to identify evidence, and CCTV is being examined.
Footage of the damaged Witton mosque was posted online by Labour party Councillor for the Bromford and Hodge Hill ward, Majid Mahmood.

‘We’ve been here for 30 years. In the morning you get 40 worshippers for morning prayer, on Friday you get about two to three hundred.
‘This doesn’t happen in Aston.
‘Tomorrow is Friday prayers and I don’t know what’s going up happen.
‘We are asking the police to give us more security.’
Home Secretary Sajid Javid tweeted: ‘Deeply concerning and distressing to see number of mosques have been vandalised in Birmingham overnight. @WMPolice are investigating motive but let me be clear – hateful behaviour has absolutely no place in our society & will never be accepted.’
Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson tweeted: ‘I’m deeply saddened and disturbed by the attacks that have taken place on mosques across Birmingham in the early hours of this morning.
The motive for the vandalism is unclear, with anti-terror police now investigating the overnight attacks
‘Mosques are places of worship where people should feel safe and I’m appalled that they’ve been targeted in this way.
‘I stand in complete solidarity with the British Muslim community against the growing tide of Islamophobia we are facing in this country.
‘We have recently seen the tragic consequences of right wing extremism in New Zealand. I hope the government takes the necessary steps to reassure the British Muslim community and that the perpetrators of these hate-fuelled attacks are swiftly brought to justice.’
Shabana Mahmood, Labour MP for Birmingham Ladywood, tweeted: ‘The reports of attacks on mosques across Birmingham are truly terrible.
‘I have spoken with the Chief Constable & will be in constant contact with community leaders throughout the day.
‘I would urge all residents to remain calm & call Crime Stoppers with any info you may have.’
The Jame Masjid on Birchfield Road in Birmingham also had its windows smashed with a sledgehammer
The mosque’s windows were boarded up after volunteers had cleared up all the glass outside the building
West Midlands Police Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: ‘Since the tragic events in Christchurch, New Zealand, officers and staff from West Midlands Police have been working closely with our faith partners across the region to offer reassurance and support at mosques, churches and places of prayer.
‘At the moment we don’t know the motive for last night’s attacks.
‘What I can say is that the force and the Counter Terrorism Unit are working side-by-side to find whoever is responsible.
‘At difficult times like this, it is incredibly important that everyone unites against those who seek to create discord, uncertainty and fear in our communities.’
West Midlands Police Chief Constable Dave Thompson confirmed they are working alongside counter-terrorism officers
Representatives of the Birmingham Council of Mosques slammed the attack and called on police to do more
John Cotton, Labour councillor for Glebe Farm and Tile Cross areas in the city, tweeted: ‘Appalled to see that Birmingham mosques have been the target of vandalism and violence overnight.
‘I’m working with @WMPolice & @BhamCityCouncil to ensure we find those responsible & support our Muslim communities.
‘These thugs do not speak for Birmingham & will not divide us.’
The Birmingham Council of Mosques said it a statement: ‘As far as we can tell the Masajids were based around Handsworth/Aston and Witton.
‘We ask the masajids to be vigilant and do not hesitate in reporting any unusual/suspicious behaviour to the police immediately.
‘It is vital you report it so it can be logged.’
Javid Iqbal, a spokesman for Witton Islamic Centre said: ‘We’ve had a white intruder strike in the middle of the night. He has arrived with a sledgehammer and smashed one window. The force of the swing has actually meant he had lost his grip and the sledgehammer ended up in the middle of the mosque.
‘Incredibly, he has then gone away for half and hour and come back with another hammer to damage several more windows. There’s about five or six windows that have been put through.
Seven windows and two doors were smashed in the attack that took place between 1.30am and 2am
Mosque volunteers could be seen sweeping up the broken glass in the aftermath of the vandalism
Police officers were spotted helping mosque officials clean up the glass that littered the pavement outside one of the damaged mosques
‘In that half and hour, other mosques in a two mile radius or so have been attacked as well. So I don’t know if he was working in a team and there were several of them.
‘Whatever the case, it is just a minority of idiots that do not reflect the values of this city or this community.
‘We have boarded up the mosque but it remains open today for worshippers. I’m yet to speak to insurers about the cost of the damage.
‘We have asked for extra resources from police, not just for Friday prayers but also for early in the morning and late at night.’
Worshipper Rashid Mohammed, 33, a father-of-three, said: ‘I was afraid something like this might happen after New Zealand. It was only a matter of time.
‘I won’t lie, I’ve been looking over my shoulder since Christchuch, even to the point where I make sure I’m by an emergency exit when I pray in case anything happens.
‘All it takes is one small-minded racist and it is very sad to see this happening in this day and age. We are proud to live in such a diverse city and we are devastated that these incidents still happen.’
Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via Live Chat between 8am and midnight, via 101 any time, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555

Christchurch Hospital’s head of surgery Greg Robertson (pictured) confirmed a four-year-old girl is in critical condition following the shooting
Out of the 48 patients admitted to hospital, seven individuals have now been discharged.
‘The 36 in hospital also include two children that remain within our care. Both are boys, one is aged two, and the other is aged 13,’ Mr Robertson told reporters.
‘Both are in a stable condition. As you would expect, the wounds from gunshots are often quite significant,’ he added.
The surgeon also confirmed that four patients had passed away while they were being transported to the hospital.
He also said that while the victims ranged in age from ‘very young to quite elderly’ in the main the majority of patients were males in the age range of thirties to forties.
‘Of the 36 patients that remain in hospital, 11 of them are in the intensive care unit, including one female aged in her mid-20s.
‘All of those in ICU are what we would consider critically ill,’ the surgeon said.
While some patients remain in a stable condition, the surgeon confirmed that others are not.
He added that 12 operating theatres worked throughout the night.
Many victims will need ongoing care.
‘As you appreciate, there is usually not just one system involved, and we are using all of our surgical services in their different specialties to deliver care for the patients as they need it,’ he added.
