The Stranger (2020) Review
Tumblr media
SPOILERS FOR THE NETFLIX SERIES THE STRANGER (2020)
This review is going to contain spoilers for the entire series, and I really do believe the best part of it is the mystery, so please go check out this series before reading if you haven’t already. It’s only eight episodes, about 40–45 minutes each. You have been warned.
Pros/Things I Liked About It
Really great cast. I hadn’t seen the majority of these actors in anything before, but everyone’s performances were pretty good.
○ Richard Armitage my beloved ○ Also a fun surprise to see Ritu Arya :D
Adam being a family man and being so sweet with his boys. It was really nice to see a depiction of a dad who doesn’t think of it as being a glorified babysitter, but as being a parent. He’s vulnerable and sweet, openly affectionate, and does his best to support them. Such a very refreshing take for a suburban dad character in media.
I love the overall theme of “doing crazy things for the people we love, even if it harms them.” It was said most blatantly by Michaela (Ritu Arya) when she said she was going to stay with her fiancé despite him leaking a private video of her. She said something to the effect of  “he did it because he wanted me for himself. Who wouldn’t want to be loved that much?” I don’t personally agree with this in real life, but I love the sentiment that love can be a driving force for both good and for bad.
○ Corinne faked a pregnancy and miscarriage, traumatizing Adam with the false death of a future child, because she knew he was cheating and wanted to keep their family together. ○ Martin Killane killed his wife, giving his daughter Chris all sorts of abandonment issues and complexes, so that he could continue to raise her and spend time with her. ○ Tripp stole money from the football club and killed Corinne to cover it up so he could take care of his family, lying to them every day and ending up dead over it. ○ Daisy thought Mike released revealing pictures of her little sister (fabricated, but still) and ruined her life, so she spiked his joint with PCP to humiliate him. ○ Katz worked for a scummy business man, giving up his morals as a policeman and killing innocent people so he could afford treatment for his sick daughter. ○ Adam, in the end, kills Tripp for revenge despite how it risked him leaving his sons all alone. ○ (Some of these weren’t directly harmful to the person they loved most, but still harm them though circumstance and proves the point that love can be a corrupting force. It’s a really interesting theme to explore, especially in a story that was already so steeped in mystery and had a lot of plot threads to deal with.)
The mystery was so incredibly intriguing. It throws so many threads at you, some of which are red herrings, but it always kept me guessing and theorizing. I was constantly turning all the details around in my head and trying to predict the ending. I cannot emphasize enough how excited I was to sit down and watch more episodes every night.
The way Corinne haunts the narrative is fantastic, I love when this happens in media. She looms over the story and we only really get to know her through flashbacks, stories, and videos. It really helps add to the mystery and keep you guessing as to what happened to her and what she’s done.
Really cool transitions between shots, mostly when there are flashbacks/Adam is thinking about Corinne. They’re just so smooth and seamless, and really adds to the previous idea of Corinne haunting the narrative.
If you’re a fan of flawed/morally gray characters, this is the show for you. None of the main characters in this show are perfect people, even if some are more flawed than others. Even our main character Adam, a great dad who loves his family, cheated on his wife, ends the series as a murderer, and pins it on a man who didn’t do it. And the teens in this show are no exception, some of them are straight up criminals. Each character has a different moral compass, and it invites really interesting discussions about their actions and intentions. This also ties back to the theme I mentioned earlier about loving someone so much you do bad things.
Cons/Things I Disliked About It
Who bit the fucking alpaca?? Why draw attention to the human bite mark on its leg and the fact that whoever did it was missing a tooth and then not resolve it??? You can assume that Mike bit it because he’s the one who cut off its head, but it’s never confirmed and I don’t think he’s missing a canine tooth? I know that mystery shows often include red herrings, there are even some others in this very show, but this one felt like too strange and specific a detail to leave unresolved.
Some of the more intense scenes (mostly the chase scenes) felt underwhelming and kind of cheap. The one between Adam and Chris especially felt like it dragged on for way too long.
Ingrid was an underutilized and unnecessary character. I get that she was meant to help humanize the Stranger and show that she’s going too far with things/making it too personal, as well as to give perspective to her actions, but it isn’t conveyed very well. Not enough time was given to develop that dynamic, so she ended up being a glorified plot device. She was mostly just there to help track down the Stranger, only to die at the end without even showing much of how the Stranger was impacted by the death.
The last episode felt really rushed. The Stranger was revealed to be Kilane’s daughter Chris, and then it’s revealed she’s actually Adam’s half-sister, then Katz kills Ingrid, shoots Chris, and gets arrested. Then Chris gives Adam the gun on the way to the hospital and points him in the direction of Bob, who then points him in the direction of Tripp, who reveals the murder. Adam kills him, then a sudden six month time skip shows that he and Johanna covered it up, and that Chris is back on the run. It was a lot thrown at us all at once, especially considering the relatively slower pacing leading up to this episode. I think this would have benefited from being a full 10 episodes, both for pacing and for fleshing out characters like Ingrid and Olivia more.
The death of Corinne and Tripp being the mastermind, while tragic in its simplicity, doesn’t quite make sense to me. I know Corinne and Adam had a fight, but even at the time I wondered why they all didn’t drive to the school for the awards together? And if they were going to go separately, it would take a long time for Tripp to clean up a murder scene, bury the body at a remote cabin, clean and dump the car somewhere else, and get back in time for the award ceremony. Not to mention he had Corinne’s phone, outmaneuvered everyone at the train station, outran them AGAIN at the bridge, and somehow dropped the phone and hid without anyone seeing him and his bright ass track jacket crouching in some bushes.
I get that Adam and Chris have a fairly large age gap, probably about 20 years minimum, but he really didn’t know her at all? Never visited home, never saw any pictures, never came over to support his old family friend when his wife “walked out on him?”
○ You could mention that Killane keeps all the photos of his family in a box somewhere. Maybe they’re too painful to look at since his wife “abandoned” him and his child doesn’t speak to him. Maybe he keeps them packed because part of him knows he’s going to lose the appeal and wants to keep them safe. Either of these would show an interesting side to him, and explain why Adam never saw Chris’ face before. ○ Or, you could have Adam mention a few times that she looks a little familiar, like he’s seen her somewhere before but can’t place it. That keeps you intrigued, that keeps you guessing. And when the reveal happens, you could say he only met her a handful of times when she was really little, which explains the vague familiarity but why he wouldn’t be able to connect the dots. ○ A fun side note: When they were talking about Chris before the reveal I noticed that Adam used they/them pronouns for her, so I thought the reason Kilane’s kid wasn’t speaking to him was because they transitioned and Adam was just being supportive lmao. It was done to make you think Kilane had a son to make the connection more hidden, but Chris is transgender in my heart now. She even mentioned a surgery she got at 18 and I really thought they were about to confirm her as a trans woman, but alas, no such luck. If she was trans though, that could have been a reason for Adam to have known her as a child, but not recognize her today.
The reveal overall that Chris and Adam were related felt kind of forced/there weren't enough hints. There was the scene where she confronted Adam’s/her dad about having a secret baby (her), but I don’t think that was enough. Also, the way they phrased the line that Chris’ mom "married a bad man" made me think it was an awful step father, not a man who raised her from birth/was assumed to be her bio dad the whole time. It was another move to throw us off the scent, but I think it worked a little too well and made the reveal too jarring.
I wish Chris stayed and got to be a part of Adam's family :( She was blackmailing people, which is a crime, but if Johanna was willing to cover up a murder for Adam, I think they could let this one slide. Then she could be a part of the family she never got to have, and Adam would be able to support her so she didn't have to resort to blackmailing people. I also thought this whole ordeal taught her that sometimes it's not the right thing to reveal these huge secrets, so I don't really see her going back to that life in the end.
The explanation at the very end of pinning Tripp’s death on Katz doesn’t really make sense to me. His gun was the murder weapon, yes, but Tripp died hours after Katz was arrested. I guess since Johanna was helping to cover it up she could have flubbed any details they needed, but that only takes you so far.
○ Did they bury him and claim he was missing? If so, how would they prove a murder had taken place? ○ If they “discovered” Tripp in the woods, then him being outside would have helped speed up decomp, but Katz’s whereabouts were pretty well documented that day (at home, kidnapped Johanna, ran off but was being tracked with Johanna’s phone, drove to the Stranger’s apartment, got arrested). I could only see it working if they claimed he killed Tripp early in the day when no one could account if he was home, but Tripp was also doing stuff that day, so the timelines wouldn’t match up. ○ Pinning Corinne’s death on Katz makes it make marginally more sense, like maybe Tripp followed him to the burial site and was killed, but again the timeline just doesn’t add up. ○ This ties back to my point of the end episode being rushed, another episode or two would have given more time to explain this, or come up with a better explanation entirely.
I wish we got to see Mike after the six month time skip. His dad was killed, and even though he sucked, Mike didn’t know that. I wish we got to see him hanging out with Thomas and Daisy, or off on his own looking sad, or just mention that he wasn’t at the game because he’s still grieving.
TLDR
Overall, I really enjoyed myself while watching this series (the Cons list looks longer than the Pros but I promise I’m just over analyzing a few small details). The ending felt fairly rushed and a little lackluster, but this was a lot more about the journey than the destination for me. It also wasn’t so egregious an ending that it made me actually angry (cough cough Umbrella Academy cough), so I’m able to look past it for enjoyment’s sake.

15. How many projects do you have going on right now? Are there any that you doubt you’ll ever finish?
I think I probably won't finish the sequel to my ACOTAR fanfic. I just don't feel the urge to keep writing for it, which sucks, because I really enjoyed it. And hey, who knows. It took me two years to write a new chapter for Endurance and then I wrote three in two weeks so you never know.
Currently going:
Endurance (AO3, fanfic for Shades of Magic series). About 75-80% done and I am hopeful.
Jameson & other New Rescues are ongoing with no particular overarching narrative goals
Occasional work for already largely complete narratives on Danny, Chris, Kauri, Jake, Antoni etc
A Little Town Called Hope & Marc Sonders/Beringer: About 50% done on narrative plan
Death Valley / Finn and Robert/Noah: the narrative structure is nearly done but I have more of Finn's long sad journey to write
Signs of the Sea: about half written, the narrative skeleton is done but still has a ton of filling in to do in the middle
What Makes a Monster/Killan: Pretty much narratively complete but I have more I'd like to do in there in the middle bits
The Heretic's Confession: just started this one, we'll see what even happens with it.
Untitled Siren Story: just started this one and I am considering pulling it from Tumblr and using it for a NaNoWriMo project

LOOK AT THEM
I DIE
Calon Nie being all testy just slays me
Also Danny’s pants
Also Chris just happy to not be the shortest guy in the room
I jus
I’m dying
Tumblr media
@ashintheairlikesnow 's shortest VS tollest charachters!
Calon Nie is not happy to be the smollest of them all. And when Calon Nie is not happy, Killan will definately be worried, to say the least.
Chris is surprised to see he isn't the shortest, after all the "Chris is smol baby" talks the other day.
Danny is being his usual tol smol bean self.
And Jake is indeed on "must protecc" mode. [And yes, I still do want The Jake to switch universes and save The Saddest Boy]

Any dark wips you want to recommend? Blood, gore, murder, the whole shebang.
i have been waiting my whole life for this question.
@holotones’s monstrous, wretched, and divine is a good place to start if you ask me! it’s definitely what helped my wips take a dip to the darker side. there’s a lot of murder, a lot of blood, a lot of fucked up relationships and a striking lack of happy endings. guaranteed to ruin you but in the best worst way possible. their wip half-life also features a protagonist whose body is quite literally falling apart
@topsides i know has some body horror by vall in her wip beneath, but i don’t know how graphic shes planning to take it - i just like plugging in joan :) they also have a whump blog with a DELICIOUS whipping scene if that’s more your speed
@wildfaewhump and i haven’t spoken, but i’ve rbed some of their isaac and talvos series onto my whump blog and can PROMISE you’ll vibe. fae torture with so so much worldbuilding around it! what’s there not to love? im also personally obsessed with serys, their falconry fae 👉👈 who deserves better than what they’re given 👉👈
@ashintheairlikesnow’s work also features darker themes, especially in her works with killan (gore and torture) and danny/nate/abraham (too much to unpack- give her tws a look). personally im a sucker for her bbu sandbox, with special focus on chris and antoni- lack of blood and gore here, but heavy focus on fucked up dynamics and their resolution.
@eatingjupiter has a more poetic writing style, and dynamics that haunt me for days. they write about passion interlocking with violence, and beauty overlapping with beastliness- just give their stuff a glance and you’ll see just what i mean
@llesbianwrites has trauma, blood and body horror in her wip hungry ghosts - although mostly im adding her here bc i just love niamh and their writing :))
ik i’m forgetting some people - probably a lot - but that’s what comes to mind atm! if anyone has any more recs, or feels like listing their wips in rbs or smth that’s cool too

Only fifteen? May as well just answer them :-)
1. I have so many names that this is a Complicated question. "My eggcubator's nun supervisor from that time she tried to become a nun before she met my sperm donor" with a side of "also possibly her hairdresser from when I was going to be born, I'm not quite sure". "Two folk musicians and an Apostle". "A video game gun and also possibly a squirrel but definitely not that poor girl in my sister's class who became a nun because she was so pretty and sweet all the douchebags kept wanting to date her and she didn't see any other option to avoid following in her mother's footsteps of repeatedly getting unwillingly divorced by douchebags, sometimes the same douchebag twice because Catholicism is very strongly designed to encourage taking him back".
2. No and no. I would fuck them up so damn bad. Five generations of extremely well-meaning maternal ancestors on two sides of the family all said "rip to my mom but im different" and then fucked up their daughters in new and creative ways. I'm not vain enough to believe I can successfully buck that trend. I will be a weird auntcle (or whatever the fuck we decide the gender-variant word is) if any of my interwebs family ever acquire younglings. I'm great with kids as long as they're not *mine*.
3. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA yeah have you been paying attention. XD There's probably a few more than just Wes Janson, it used to be majorly Steve Rogers, but I'm still waking up and I have a bunch of doctor appointments today so I'm not going to spend too long trying to remember. Bunch of shapeshifters, that's for sure.
4. Nothing. I'm scrolling Tumblr while trying to wake up enough to put clothes on. This is not remotely sexy. ;-)
5. No. No plants. I got arbitrarily handed responsibility for a lot of plants as a kid, and the hyperempathy means they're alive enough that I feel bad if I don't take super-major-good care of them, but they don't give me enough endorphins in return to be worth it. No fish either. If I was going to have something that would fuck me up every time anything went wrong with it, I would have a cat so I at least got purrs and snuggles out of the deal. But I'm allergic to animal dander now, so no.
6. Cats. There are other animals I appreciate from a distance, but my favorites are pretty much cats. I get along well with them, understand their body language, and they're very clear about setting boundaries.
7. My aesthetic in emojis... this should be fun. 🥰😈☠️💖💗💓💞💕🔥✨🌈🌃🦄🦕🐈🐬🍦🥧🎂🍾🛸🌅🏔️🌋🗻🏜️🎉🎃⚽🥋🧵🕯️👗🧥🛠️📯🗡️⚔️📜♏🏳️‍🌈 That was a bunch of emojis.
8. Bad habits... I bite my nails. I've given up on stopping, there's too much else going on in my life.
9. My sexuality is "well I'm genderfluid so it's difficult to define but I'm usually more into people of the gender I currently am, but guys have to really work for it and basically have the Chris Hemsworth combination of muscles and good-naturedness, I am attracted to a lot more different shapes of girls but I find any hint of male-gazeyness extremely offputting so those gifsets where all the lesbians are tagging things 'fuck im gay' usually just make me question whether I'm actually into ladies at all". Bi for short. (I like the pan pride colors better but the whole 'im attracted to the person not the gender' doesn't click with me.)
10. Er. Does it have to have been playing while I sang it? I sing a lot. In the car, the shower, whatever. It might have been "Kelly, the Boy from Killan".
11. Blue, green, anything bright, fall leaves, Easter basket pastels, Halloween colors... I like color. A lot.
12. I haven't. I should remedy that. I am not good at this diabetic thing.
13. Small studio apartment, no kids bo pets no roommates. Lonely but quite happy to be able to mess around and figure out how I like to live. I've never really lived alone before, not with any amount of disposable income. My place has a definite dorm room aesthetic, but I'm trying to make that be in a good way.
14. Extrovert as hell. Need more friends.
15. 🗡️⚔️🕯️

The Weekly Roundup: Your Go-To Guide For Everything You May Have Missed This Week & More! 8/25 – 8/31
Welcome to Ben Greenfield’s Weekly Roundup and Cool New Discoveries!
Ben Greenfield’s discoveries from the latest news from the fronts of fitness, nutrition, health, wellness, biohacking and anti-aging research. I also recap my upcoming events and special announcements so you can keep up with giveaways, discounts, and more!
New Discoveries Of The Week: Cool New Things I’m Trying, Books I’m Reading, And More!
– Book I’m Intrigued With: Bioregulatory Medicine
As a pre-med student who wanted to be a doctor, spent hundreds of hours in college in physician’s clinics, hospitals and surgical wards “shadowing” docs and eventually wound up getting accepted to six medical schools (but opted to instead dive into the fitness industry), I’m still pretty enthralled with medicine. As a matter of fact, up until launching Kion a couple years ago, I still had thoughts of going back to school for a degree in natural or alternative medicine! So any book on advanced alternative medicine tactics or retreats like this that I’m leading in the Swiss Alps next year definitely pique my interest. This latest read of mine, a book called “Bioregulatory Medicine“, doesn’t come out until November, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon and it’s a wonderful, wonderful treatise of a host of medical tactics I was previously unfamiliar with. It introduces a model that has proven effective for decades in other more forward-thinking developed countries, including Switzerland and Germany – a model based on the fact that our bodies have many bioregulating systems, including the cardiovascular, digestive, neurological, respiratory, endocrine, etc. and that use of natural healing methods to support and restore the body’s intrinsic self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms (as opposed to simply treating symptoms with integrative therapies) can provide disease prevention and early intervention of illness through noninvasive diagnostics and treatments. The book incorporates the use of over 100 different non-toxic diagnostics and treatments from around the world, and forward-thinking patients and integrative practitioners alike will dig this one, I think. Grab it here from Amazon.
– Dessert I’m Obsessed With: HaloTop
If eating an entire pint of dairy-free, vegan ice cream only costs me about 300 calories and brings me extreme enjoyment at the end of the day, I’m all in. Sure, everything in moderation, but considering it’s been over a decade since I’ve bought ice cream from the frozen foods section of the grocery store, I was overjoyed (and admittedly felt stupid being so slow on the uptake) to find HaloTop ice cream on a hot day in Florida a couple weeks ago. My wife and I destroyed a pint while lying in bed watching a dodgeball competition on the hotel TV (not joking), and I’ve mowed through four additional pints/flavors since then. My favorite flavor thus far is “Peanut Butter Cup”, which contains: coconut milk, prebiotic fiber, organic cane sugar, erythritol, peanut butter, rice protein, vegetable glycerin, pea protein, natural flavor, organic carob gum, organic guar gum, high fat cocoa, sea salt, organic sunflower lecithin, organic stevia leaf. Not too shabby. And I must say, when topped with a frozen Kion bar chopped or broken into chunks, it is an absolute culinary nirvana. Bon appetit. Order HaloTop from Amazon here or find at your local grocery store frozen foods section. May I also recommend “Cinnamon Roll” and “Oatmeal Cookie Dough” as additional mind-blowing flavors.

Featured Product:
I created the *NEW* Kion Clean Energy Bar because, unfortunately, most energy bars are HORRIBLE: full of sugar and starch, which can cause dreaded sugar crashes. Or, if the sugar is removed, it’s often replaced with nasty artificial sweeteners that kill gut bacteria and cause neurotoxicity.
Each and every tasty bite of the Kion Clean Energy Bar gives you the guilt-free confidence and guarantee that you’re biting into:
a clean-burning bar that will “hold up” under rigorous conditions of people living hard-charging, high-achieving lives…
a low-carb, high-fat, moderate-protein bar with zero dairy, zero whey protein isolate, and instead contain a clean hypoallergenic protein source…
a bar that is low in lectins and free of gluten, saponins and other notorious gut assailants…
a bar that has plenty of minerals and electrolytes along with perfect amounts of fiber to keep you from getting the notorious “energy bar constipation…”
a bar that supports recovery with sufficient levels of all essential amino acids and antioxidants, without excess protein that can result in gut issues…
a bar that contains just enough carbohydrate for liver and muscle glycogen restoration and appetite satiety, without sugar crashes…
In short, Kion Bar will give you all the nutrients, minerals, deliciousness and appetite satisfaction that you desire in a bar, with none of the harmful ingredients. Try Kion Clean Energy Bar today.

I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK
What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening. Email a voicemail message to [email protected]
Cassidy Owen emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, Just wanted to say thank you for including Warbelow Range in the last couple of episodes. As a fellow Alaskan it is so wonderful to hear Caitlin Warbelow and the rest of Warbelow Range. I usually end up listening to the podcast while I walk too and from work at the Talkeenta Public Library in Talkeetna, Alaska. On a clear day I get a wonderful view of Denali while I walk. Thanks for the podcast, keep up the good work!"
Michael Garries emailed a photo: "Hey Marc! I love listening to your podcast while I study! I'm taking calculus right now (my least favorite subject by far) and your perfect blend of the various Celtic subgenres really helps to keep me focused from distractions. Keep up the good work and thank you for broadcasting the beauty of Irish and Celtic culture every month, we all appreciate it!"
Lily F Bentley replied to a Celtic Music Magazine newsletter: "Hello, and thank you for getting in touch! Thanks also for the MP3s, which all successfully downloaded. I’m still working through them, but so far Burning Bridget Cleary is standing out as a favourite. And more generally, I must say that as a UK-based listener, I’m really enjoying discovering Celtic musicians from further afield. It’s just amazing how much is out there that you’ll never hear on the British touring circuit. If I may return the favour with just a couple of recommendations of my own...
Gerry O’Reilly has done some beautiful covers of traditional Irish songs, which can be found here.
And chances are you’ll know this one already, but Talitha MacKenzie’s live performance of ‘Fear a Bhata’ is magical.
Really looking forward to hearing more from the podcast, and thanks for all the time you put into to curating the playlists - it really is appreciated, and I will be spreading the word!"

Hi, I’m new to your page and I’m loving these snippets but I’m so confused as to where to start to understand where all these characters come from (Jameson, Kauri, Taren…?) and the general world build and how this pet thing works here? I’d love to know where to start and in what order to read if you have the time :)
My stories are original. My characters and stories are all OCs except for certain characters that my friends have let me borrow, which will be noted in the piece if so!
I usually tell people to start with Daniel Michaelson's Story, standalone abduction/captivity horror and recovery, with a narrative that is largely complete.
Chris - What We Can't Make Right - begins with a teenage boy showing up in the middle of a rainy night in California, and from there talks about recovery, PTSD, and surviving the worst things you can imagine and finding a family after the loss of yours
Erase to Control - Kauri - is the story of a wealthy man's custom-made victim, his escape, and how he discovered himself
Little More Than a Chance collects related stories of a safehouse in the Box Boy Universe and its inhabitants.
Signs of the Sea is about a mer boy captured for scientific experimentation and his unusual bond with one of the researchers studying him
Killan - What Makes a Monster - is a fantasy universe where a boy becomes a sort of Frankenstein's monster and survives a world that fears and is horrified by him

@ashintheairlikesnow 's whole bunch are my favourites. From cute whumpees like Chris and Killan to sadistic assholes like Bram and Calon Nie to sexy bitches like Connor. I love everyone.
@slaintetowhump 's Demetri is my absolute fave whumpee right now. He's a good bean being brutally hurt and I'm 🥺❤
Also their Rossi is an asshole I love him👌👌
@whump-it 's Callum is my baby I love him. And his relationship with Rory is <3
@spookyboywhump 's oc's are delightful and specially Puppy Cain is another very fave whumpee of mine!
@untilthepainstarts 's Lev of course is the first whumpee I read in the whump community and he'll always be a fave for me! And Martin is a sexy bitch I can never get over my crush on him!

Tell us about your favourite OC that belongs to and was created by another person.

hi I’ve only recently came across your page and this ‘genre’ if that’s the right word? I really love your writing, but as I’m new I have what’s probably a dumb question! Are your characters, like Kauri, Antoni ect OCs or from something? Do you have a specific story for them or is it all smaller pieces of a bigger a picture?
Unless noted (sometimes I have been known to write with other whumpblr writers), all my stories here are my original characters and storylines. Connections depend on the story.
Daniel Michaelson's Story, Signs of the Sea, What Makes a Monster / Killan are all standalone stories.
Kauri, Antoni, Chris, Jake, Jameson etc all exist in a single shared universe and overlap or influence each other. But each person has a largely contained narrative too.

♡ - romantic headcanon for Miah, Antoni (im not sorry), Chris and Laken
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon for Jake, Kauri, Antoni, Jameson, Allyn and Killan
♒ - cooking/food headcanon for Jake and Kauri
☼ - appearance headcanon for Antoni and Nat
☠ - angry/violent headcanon for Nat and Laken
♥ - family headcanon forrr Nat and Kauri
also i accidentally stopped following you SORRY
Listen that was a really harrowing like six and a half minutes without you, I'm so glad you came back to me
♡ - romantic headcanon
Miah: She's not the type to be impressed by someone opening a door for her. She appreciates thoughtful small gestures much more.
Antoni: Antoni heard the word 'romantic' and panicked. He doesn't do romance. It makes no sense to him. How do people do that, anyway, just like... do all of that. He doesn't get it. It's terrifying.
Chris: Chris has absolutely sat and made daisy chains out of dandelions to give Laken to wear as a crown
Laken: ... wore the hell out of that crown through all their classes that day
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon
Jake: Jake never changes his haircut. He hits on a haircut he likes at like age 24 and always gets the same haircut forever after that.
Kauri: Kauri genuinely likes and gets along with basically all the bus drivers in his city. They know his name, they're used to him catching naps. When he starts staying home more and stops sleeping on the bus, one of them actually calls his phone to make sure he's okay when none of them have seen him in a week.
Antoni: He loves dark greens and browns, earth tones in general. He only wears clothes in those colors and black.
Jameson: Once he has the cat in the house, Jameson sleeps curled around it every single night
Allyn: Definitely has watched Jameson sleep curled around his cat
Killan: Killan isn't picky about food, but his absolute favorite thing is spiced meat cooked on a kebab. Reminds him of home.
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
Jake: Jake makes a mean sausage gravy with biscuits using ONLY White Lily flour, as he was taught by his southern mother and grandmothers.
Kauri: Kauri's favorite food on earth is a greasy diner cheeseburger, and he more or less lives on them when he's on the run.
☼ - appearance headcanon
Antoni: He doesn't really style his hair. It just looks like that naturally.
Nat: Natalie Yoder has thirteen different long-sleeved flannel button-up shirts in her closet.
☠ - angry/violent headcanon
Nat: When she was in college, she got upset when a friend's ex-boyfriend wouldn't leave them alone after the breakup, and she broke his nose. She was very proud of this.
Laken: Laken is fairly calm and even-keeled and it takes a LOT to make them genuinely angry. Dylan is one of the few people who has gotten them there.
♥ - family headcanon forrr Nat and Kauri
Nat: Nat understands why they did it how they did, but she was kind of a little sad that Jake adopted Chris as his brother and had his mom be Chris's adoptive mom. Nat might've liked to be asked.
Kauri: Kauri would never admit to it really but Nat is absolutely his adopted mom

Ash I dreamt of you (again!) !! There were a bunch of people sitting down in a building that had a long hallway(looked like an abondoned school tbh), and you were among them. Suddenly a person came inside and said something about Jake having shouted at Chris, and Chris having a panic attack. And that Chris was now in the yard. This made you rush outside to help Chris. (1/2)
After a while I saw some people dragging a restrained-to-a-hospital-bed Killan inside a room. And I asked you(who were back by that time) what was happening with Killan. And you were like "Ah, who knows? More suffering, I guess?" And I was baffled at how genuinely more evil you were towards Killan, than Chris. (2/2)
Poor Killan.
He should have thought about wanting compassion from me before he decided to be forcibly abducted and turned into a monster...

Do you have links for any fanart people have drawn? Like l know Moya drew some... (also do you have any objections to us sending in fanart??)
No objections, only shrieking enthusiasm! You can find fanart, art from me, or commissioned work under oc-specific tags. I've included them as tags to this ask for easy browsing!
