So on the 27th DeepSeek R1 dropped (a chinese version of ChatGPT that is open source, free and beats GPT's 200 dollar subscription, using less resources and less money) and the tech market just had a loss of $1,2 Trillion.

Having a good pen that you use at work is like. If anything happened to this pen I would kill everyone in this building including my coworkers
#i got myself a new fountain pen a couple months ago bc my old one had ink dry in the duct and i dropped it right on the nib trying to fix it#that is now my official note taking pen#BUT ALSO i had a mechanical pencil that id use for studying my notes‚ silly little doodles and jokes‚ etc#AND I LOST IT YESTERDAY#i took it with me to my exam bc we usually get some scrap paper to take notes on#and i have cargo pants and big enough jacket pockets so i just took the essentials with me - bottle‚ phone‚ pencil‚ keys#so on the way back i put the pencil in my jacket pocket but apparently i didnt zip it shut#and it mustve fallen out somewhere on the way back :(#anyways back to the fountain pen bc its the first pen i actually bought myself maybe ever#i always just find them or take em from orgs and i go okay new pen :) yay :)#but the mechanical pencil i bought maybe 2-3 years ago after losing the one i used before that#mechanical pencils are not safe around me i fear 😔

Published in “Transvestia” magazine #38 (April 1966). I think original art could be by Bob Tupper.

my creative writing prof also HATES fantasy. as in if she asks for an example of symbolism in a book, and you give something from a fantasy novel, she’ll ask for an example from a “non-commercial book” instead.
I dunno man, people can have preferences, but the second you discount the artistic merit of sci fi and fantasy I stop taking your opinion seriously. and there’s such a big culture in Canada of only valuing literary fiction, to the point where one of our biggest authors, Margaret Atwood, refused for a while to classify her books as sci fi or fantasy. she said they were “speculative fiction”, which is entirely separate and very highbrow (sarcasm).
and I could go on about how Octavia Butler and Ursula Le Guin wrote books every bit as intellectual (and honestly, even more so) than their literary counterparts, but I am also an enjoyer of schlock!! I think there’s artistic merit in animorphs, and in isekais where a japanese schoolgirl reincarnates into a magical spider who has to level up like it’s a video game! it’s like with everything, you can’t draw a clean line that separates ‘art’ from ‘non-art’ or even ‘lesser art’, and pretending you can do so just makes you look ignorant and goofy. in my opinion.
#its one of my big gripes with dutch literary education...#many people arent completely free to choose what books to read because it all has to be ''REAL literature''. whatever that may mean.#the thing about dutch literature esp current is that it all features rape and incest and incestual rape and drugs and abuse and drugs and ab#i was lucky enough to both have a relatively lax ''reading list'' from what ive heard from other people#and that i managed to pick a couple books that were Actually Good and Fun and didnt feature any ''classic'' dutch topics#but my god did i read some absolute dogshit aswell#one specific book comes to mind that starts off strong and then immediately devolves into a weird gay porn plot#where the main guy discovers that he really isnt gay at all‚ actually‚ while in the middle of filming some weird ass skydiving thing#and then the book basically ends with some cosmic sex between him and his girlfriend#and i do mean cosmic‚ theyre dead and in two different afterlives but they got to ''interact'' once more#idk a lot of dutch lit likes to think its Better Than You because its gonna get the Literature™ stamp of approval#but the best dutch lit i read was actually borderline if not fully a fantasy story#its about a girl born from beets from when her father jacked off into a pot of em bc he missed his husband who died in the 9/11 attacks#also they live right by disney florida bc thats where the dad works#BANGER book. SO fun. still contains weird sex so it counts as dutch lit (/hj)
