So as it turns out, I've been horribly, TERMINALLY infected by @elodieunderglass' "A Weasel Heart In Defiance" - meet Chom and Chant, currently keeping me from my work with their song and dance. Thinking about wanting to do something with Elodie's fascinating take on the already fascinating source material is getting wildly out of hand, you guys. Have some art, in the meantime.

got a lot of art from various ttrpg campaigns im in that i just never posted? so heres just all of it
campaign / character info under the cut:
1: thats milly! shes my character in a middle earth campaign i recently joined. shes a hobbit warden, which is basically a bard minus spellcasting. shes talky
2: atmos is a poppet kineticist (air/water) in a pathfinder 2e rp server i joined, theyre nonverbal and filled with rage
3: ACE-9, an autognome (flavored as a different race called "cairnicks") warlock/wizard (hexblade/war magic) i made for a one-shot. despite being a warlock/wizard, she was the tank of the party bc she had crazy high AC, which drove my dm crazy (hi @arclundarchivist <3). she ended up sacrificing herself to save her AI patron
4-5: ive posted about zaltus before, hes my leonin cleric, the other guy in those doodles is andanan, the paladin in the party, who zaltus has a weird crush on bc he reminds zaltus of his wife (seen in 8)
6: zaltus got wasted one session and was super normal
7: zaltus is a sub. moving on
8: zaltus's wife was super hot but shes dead now bc zaltus got zorped 600 years in the future. sad
9-11: buoy is an owlin barbarian character ive got prepared for a campaign way in the future that im still playing with the design for
12: joey is my backup character for another campaign the same DM is running, shes a human ranger and she loves pokemon!
13: jacob is an npc from that same campaign, hes a conspiracy theorist who is unfortunately uniquely incapable of seeing supernatural stuff
14: same campaign, these are the folks in the highschool dnd club joeys in. the witches think they have magic and dont, the hunters think magic is real and are right. they hate each other
15-16: a scene from another campaign from the same DM, in the same universe as zaltus! ive posted about chomphuphan, my ursine cleric, and the other character is jengen, the barbarian in the party whos sorta choms father figure now
17: chomphuphans adoptive brother is named onkhot and he broke his leg protecting chom from bandits. theyre angsty
18: jengen had long hair and i didnt know this when i drew him initially. anyway he and chom are friends and jengen drinks fire resistance potions to bang fire giant ladies

Sorry if you answered this before but how do you think the way you do 😅 I read your posts about mash and brain goes brrrrr but I want to learn how to see what you see, or at try
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what you're asking me is how to think critically. I'm not an expert in this field and i don't have any formal training except for one mandatory philosophy course i took in high school that remains the lowest grade i've ever received lol... so I'm going to speak from personal experience.
To some extent, I'm just like this. I don't really believe much in innate traits, so I would attribute the way I think about things to some combination of lived experience and consumption of secondary sources of information.
In recent years I've become more interested in methodologies of critical analysis and I've done some research into it but not enough to provide an authoritative list of resources*. I do keep a tag called #crit on this blog, where I file some resources that I'm interested in checking out, here's a cheatsheet for critical thinking that's a good starting point (it's not accessible to screen-readers unfortunately but i'm sure you can find some equivalent of this if you google it).
in my crit tag you'll also find micro-examples of people talking about criticism in reference to certain texts that i've found really interesting because they're widely considered to be controversial. i like reading criticism of such texts because if something is very controversial, it means that whoever is providing a fair critique of it needs to set aside certain biases that are pretty common in the mainstream. that said, there's still plenty to be gained from reading also analyses of non-contentious media and it's sometimes really fun to read those pieces - children's media analysis is fascinating.
where it comes to MASH, many of my opinions are informed by my interests in art and structural power, in that order. that's how i approach pretty much all of my media analysis. it's almost second nature at this point. would love to be able to watch a kpop video without wondering about the implications of race and gender but it's hopeless. i've leaned into it by reading a lot about art and structural power, and consuming a lot of art that concerns itself with structural power and learning about the structural powers that either enable or disable the production and consumption of art.
i mention personal interests because i think it helpful to decide what's important to you. it doesn't need to be an 'ism'... unless you're me and the isms just find their way into whatever it is i'm thinking about. identifying an angle you're interested in gives you something to 'look for' - a starting point when you're watching something. the isms work really well in this case because they're pretty much everywhere, but you could look at technical things too - production, writing, acting, etc...
now that i'm 2 years deep into the MASH thing i've read more specifically about things that are relevant to it's narrative. Objectively: medicine, the Korean War, the history and practice of comedy writing, American foreign policy, 1950s class dynamics...
and more subjectively (perhaps): Jewish comedy, trade unionism, gender performance and christian art.
the more you read and the more you think (and hopefully document some of your thoughts) the easier it will become to be a consciously critical consumer. watch out though. *i'm not an expert but beneath the cut there's a non-exhaustive list of some popular writers / thinkers / creators to whom i owe some measure of intellectual debt for their influence on my approaches to thinking about media
bertolt brecht, toni morrison, marshall mcluhan, judith butler, angela davis, ralph waldo emerson, ursula k le guin, arundhati roy, donna haraway, voltairine de cleyre, b.r. ambedkar, sarah schulman, edward said, james baldwin, michel foucault, fran lebowitz, oscar wilde, susan sontag, gayatri chakravorty spivak, noam chomsky, frantz fanon

What makes cartoon art styles so appealing to us viewers?
Join me, Chom, as I share my thoughts at how impactful the appeal of cartoon art has in our lives despite its commonly silly nature!
Tumblr media
We all have watched cartoons before when we were young since its appealing trait to children. Cartoons are not also directed for children but to adults as well! Cartoons are the best option to watch in the TV when everyone in the room is part of a general audience.

The Intersection of Music and Culture: A Deep Dive
Music has always been more than mere entertainment—it’s a reflection of culture, an expression of identity, and a bridge that connects people across borders. Throughout history, music has played a crucial role in shaping societal values, inspiring change, and preserving heritage. Today, the global music scene is richer and more diverse than ever, thanks to key players such as legendary artists, influential agencies, and viral phenomena that keep redefining the industry.
In this article, we’ll explore how music intersects with culture, diving into the contributions of icons like the Menudo Band, modern stars like Summer Walker, viral hits like El Chombo’s “Cosita,” and how agencies like Oriental Star Agencies and curated lists such as the Good Music List are keeping the art form vibrant and accessible.
The Role of Music in Shaping Cultural Narratives
Every song tells a story, and when multiple stories converge, they form the cultural fabric of a community. Agencies like Oriental Star Agencies have been instrumental in bringing diverse musical talents to the forefront. By promoting artists who fuse traditional sounds with contemporary styles, Oriental Star Agencies help ensure that cultural narratives are preserved while also evolving to stay relevant in a modern context. This approach has enabled global audiences to discover and appreciate the beauty of culturally-rooted music.
For instance, Oriental Star Agencies have been involved in fostering South Asian music talent, which has significantly influenced global pop culture. Their efforts have paved the way for artists who now enjoy international recognition, blending cultural heritage with mainstream appeal.
The Power of Curated Music
In today’s digital age, discovering good music is easier than ever, thanks to platforms and resources that curate the best of the best. A Good Music List is an essential tool for anyone looking to explore both trending hits and hidden gems. These lists often combine a mix of genres, ensuring there’s something for every listener, whether they’re into soulful ballads, energetic dance tracks, or introspective indie tunes.
What makes a good music list so valuable is its ability to bring together songs that resonate universally. From showcasing emerging artists to reminding listeners of timeless classics, these playlists act as a bridge, connecting cultures and generations through the universal language of music.
Artists Who Redefine Music’s Role in Society
One such artist shaping the modern musical landscape is Summer Walker. As a prominent figure in contemporary R&B, Summer Walker’s music often explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Her ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level has made her a cultural phenomenon.
Beyond her music, Walker’s unapologetic approach to expressing her individuality and challenging societal norms has cemented her place as not just a musician but also a cultural icon. Her songs are more than melodies; they are narratives that resonate deeply with her fans, bridging the gap between personal experience and collective understanding.
The Legacy of the Menudo Band
When discussing the intersection of music and culture, it’s impossible to overlook the contributions of legendary acts like the Menudo Band. As one of the most iconic Latin pop groups of all time, Menudo has had a profound influence on the genre, inspiring countless artists and shaping the global perception of Latin music.
Menudo’s rise to fame marked a turning point for Latin pop, bringing it into the mainstream and proving that music could transcend language barriers. Their legacy continues to inspire modern artists, and their story serves as a testament to the power of music to foster cross-cultural appreciation.
The Viral Impact of El Chombo’s “Cosita”
In today’s era of instant connectivity, music has the unique ability to go viral, capturing global attention in mere moments. El Chombo’s “Cosita” is a perfect example of this phenomenon. The song, with its infectious beat and catchy hook, became a worldwide sensation, sparking dance challenges and memes across social media platforms.
Beyond its viral success, “Cosita” highlights the way music can bring people together in a shared moment of joy. It also underscores the importance of simplicity and relatability in crafting music that resonates with diverse audiences.
Conclusion
The intersection of music and culture is a dynamic and ever-evolving space, shaped by the contributions of artists, agencies, and viral trends. From the trailblazing efforts of Oriental Star Agencies to the curated brilliance of a Good Music List, from the soulful storytelling of Summer Walker to the enduring legacy of the Menudo Band, and the viral magic of El Chombo’s “Cosita,” the world of music continues to inspire, connect, and evolve.

Exploring Special Exhibitions at MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum
Situated in the rich cultural fabric of Chiang Mai, Thailand, the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum is a unique blend of past and present, brought to life through art. Founded by Jean Michel Beurdeley, his late wife Patsri Bunnag, and their son Eric Bunnag Booth, MAIIAM's identity is deeply rooted in its historical connections to King Chulalongkorn's consort, Chao Chom Iam. The museum, an architectural marvel transformed from a former warehouse by Rachaporn Choochuey, is located in the Sankampaeng district. Its distinctive mirrored facade, a nod to local temple aesthetics, both separates and connects it to the old town.
Beyond its walls, MAIIAM hosts a dynamic collection highlighting renowned and emerging artists such as Montien Boonma and Kamin Lertchaiprasert, whose works probe themes from globalization to the intricate dance of technology and tradition. Notably, the museum's vibrant exhibition roster has included retrospectives by cinematic auteur Apichatpong Weerasethakul, whose films challenge and enchant audiences with their lyrical interrogation of Thai society and politics.
The exhibition 'LIVING ANOTHER FUTURE,' which opened on May 24, seamlessly integrates MAIIAM's permanent collections with fresh perspectives. The event unveiled a collection of innovative narratives and artistic dialogues, marking the launch of a weekly Screening Program. This program is a testament to MAIIAM's dedication to continuously exploring contemporary issues through the medium of film, further enriching the museum's offerings.
A standout piece in this exhibition is Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn's two-channel video installation "My Ailing Beliefs Can Cure Your Wretched Desires," part of his "Empty Forest" series. This work lays bare the haunting realities of Vietnam's ecological crisis—termed "empty forest syndrome"—where the relentless poaching and illegal wildlife trade have all but silenced the once vibrant animal life. Nguyễn's installation, exploring the intersections of Vietnamese mythology, colonial histories, and environmental degradation, uses the narrative lens of the last Javan rhino, tragically poached in 2010. Through this spectral perspective, the video weaves a poignant narrative that traverses the ravages of time and human folly—from Chinese medicinal legacies to the remnants of French colonial hunts and the scars of war.
Through thought-provoking installations like Nguyễn's, MAIIAM exhibits art and fosters a deeper understanding of Southeast Asia's environmental and cultural narratives. The museum has become a cultural hub for Chiang Mai, attracting a diverse audience, from local art enthusiasts to international visitors and even the occasional monk. Its exhibitions and events reflect the city's rich history and artistic vibrancy, making MAIIAM more than just a museum. It has become a vital platform for cultural dialogue and community connection in Northern Thailand. As Chiang Mai's art scene flourishes, MAIIAM stands as both a witness and a key player in the unfolding narrative of contemporary Thai art.
