A typical entrance of a traditional thatched roof house in Tamilnadu...The triangular shaped holes in the walls adjacent to the doors are called as maadam which housed small votive oil lamps to provide lighting..The small platforms on either side of entrance are called as Thinnai which served as a resting place for travellers...Also seen are dark impressions of human hands made by saffron colour on either side of door meant to deceive evil eye and a symbol of prosperity ...At the top of the door is a toran or decor hanging made by mango leaves attached in a string which symbolises auspicious occassion...At the floor decorations called as Kolam made with rice powder which serve as decoration and also doubles as food for ants . . . Kamsa imprisioned his Sister Devagi along with her her husband in his vicinity, since it was prophesied that he would be killed by the Eighth Son born to his sister, He ordered that all of Devakis babies to be killed, but when she got conceived for the seventh time, gods transformed the embryo to the womb of Rohini, Vasudev's second wife who gave birth to a beautiful son whom was named Balram.
