[ anger ] - Choji
nonverbal angst \\ hella accepting [ anger ] sender takes their anger out on receiver
It wasn't the first time and it wasn't going to be the last that Choji took his anger out on Togame. At minimum it was done where nobody was looking, as Choji suddenly launched a well placed punch to the side of his head, one that has him staggering under the force of it but not quite losing his footing.
Though rather than fighting back, Togame stands there and takes whatever Choji wishes to dish out to him. It doesn't matter if Choji hits him or kicks him, Togame does nothing in return...
Until he finally moves once Choji seems to have had enough. Resting his hands upon his dearest friends shoulders, Togame manages a small smile, "Its alright, Choji..." he rasps through a throat thick with emotion. It pained him to see Choji so upset..
"As long as you don't take it out on the rest of the guys.. I'll be fine." He'd do anything to protect Shishitoren from what Choji had become.

Togame can almost feel the gears turning in Choji's mind, and there's a distinct amount of relief that he feels in the knowledge that he's managed to mitigate something truly awful from happening to Shishitoren. He firmly believed once they began to fight amongst themselves, it would be the end of their group. All that'd be left was Choji himself, being the strongest of them all..
If what it took to protect Shishitoren was put a shiny target on the back of the leader of Bofurin, then that's exactly what he'd do. Without hesitation, without remorse... and certainly not without a second thought.
"Yes... you should. But we need to find a way to do so without outright attacking him. Doing so will only warrant an all out war, and we wouldn't want that, now would we?" he drawls the words, a self pleased smile on his features as he reaches up and adjusts his glasses on his nose.
Steady is the gaze that chooses to pin Togame and with every new suggestion Choji found himself jumping to the next conclusion. There were plenty of reasons why in-fighting might have worked against him but Choji wasn't particularly interested in any of them because strength should solve most of them. If they weren't strong enough to figure that out themselves, they weren't for for Shishitoren. Why did he have to hold everyone's hand? That's not how he remembered the glory days. There wasn't any hand holding, he paved his way here with his own two fists and if they were strong enough they could do the same.
What the hell was Togame stuck on? A stupid principle like preserving the core of the gang? But didn't he see that it was already flawed to begin with? The core didn't matter if it was already trash, soiled with too many pathetic people running among the ranks. People who obviously didn't share the same sentiment, the same dream of strength triumphing everything. It's a simple goal, he thinks, so why is he alone when chasing it?
Then a pin drops.
Togame's suggestion does raise a valid point and the pin makes the waters within his train of thought ripple with questions, his earlier claims now silenced by the effects. What did make Umemiya so happy? It's exactly what makes Choji wants, what he craves but can never seem to find. Just out of reach he can feel himself grasping for something that would never grace him with the luxury he wanted, something not even he knew the contents of but blindly sought after anyway. What Umemiya had, he wanted.
"Then I should fight Ume-chan to find out!" As if he snapped back into reality his faux chipper demeanor reappeared to completely shift gears. "Ume-chan probably has the key to what I'm missing and I wanna find out for myself. He's pretty strong too, so it should be pretty fun!" Finally, something to look forward to. Something to take away the pain of wasting away in this husk, this prison he knew to be his own mind.

@lunaerising ♡’d for choji + shikamaru.
HE HADN’T MEANT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, hadn’t meant for things to get so out of hand. he was supposed to be the glue that held ino — shika — cho together as the akimichi clan had done for generations, & yet here they were: their trio shattered, the moment shikaku & inoichi gave their lives to save the world. CHOZA, the last survivor of the previous generation, & somehow the survivor’s guilt has wormed its way into choji’s heart. perhaps a sign that he was too close to his father, or maybe the guilt that his teammates [ his BEST FRIENDS ] have lost everything while he stands here still with a family to hold him. why does he feel such a burden, as if it was his own hands that took the lives of his best friends’ fathers? he couldn’t have saved them, couldn’t have changed the course of the war, but his heart is heavy —— like he should’ve been strong enough to able to. his hands are clean, yet they feel heavy & stained with the blood that was not his own. he couldn’t stand to look ino in the eye, to see the way her once bright demeanor had been broken down into a husk of who she used to be: first, her friendship with sakura, then asuma, now her father. 𝚑𝚘𝚠 𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚐𝚒𝚛𝚕 𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚕𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚍𝚊𝚖𝚊𝚐𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚒𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚒𝚋𝚕𝚎? he couldn’t stand to look shikamaru in the eye, to see how he blamed himself & carried the guilt of a thousand men on his shoulders. first, the failed mission to save sasuke, & then & then & then [ . . . ] 𝙷𝙴 𝙳𝙸𝙳𝙽'𝚃 𝚁𝙴𝙲𝙾𝙶𝙽𝙸𝚉𝙴 𝙷𝙸𝚂 𝙱𝙴𝚂𝚃 𝙵𝚁𝙸𝙴𝙽𝙳 𝙰𝙽𝚈𝙼𝙾𝚁𝙴. how much could one man take before he broke? he hadn’t found his answer yet. ❛ 𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑲𝑨𝑴𝑨𝑹𝑼 —— ❜ his own voice has become foreign to him, though he couldn’t begin to understand if its hoarseness comes from the agonizing cries every night or simply lack of use. ❛ 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆. ❜ a grown man, begging his best friend to come back to him, wanting nothing more than for things to be OKAY AGAIN.

@amegatari asked: a kiss on the cheek. [ shikacho ] || SPOTS TO KISS MEME
The beams of sunlight that peaked through the leaves above warmed his face well as he was reclined against the trunk. Eyes remained closed as Shikamaru let a sigh escape him, relishing in the chance for a lazy day for once. Asuma had been working them hard, taking up D rank missions one after another to help them work on their teamwork. While he appreciated the money in his pocket, he preferred to have his chances to relax and watch the clouds, either alone or in good company as he was now.
Lips against his cheek had his eyes opening, a slight flush spreading across the bridge of his nose and cheeks, an unusual look on his features but there was something about Choji that cut through all pretence he might offer and caught him off-guard. Unlike many others, there was no sense of pressure to change around the other boy and he felt cared deeply for in his presence.
“All these missions lately have been such a drag... it’s nice to get a few moments peace...” he breathed, turning to look at the other more directly. It’s nice to spend time together without stress, he thought, keeping the sentiment to himself. Choji would know anyway.

It had been some time now since the fight with Bofurin, and things were getting better in Shishitoren every single day. It was a fact that Togame was grateful for, and with the change, came the necessary need for a chance in Togame as well. A physical showing that he had turned over a new leaf.. which naturally meant Choji was following his lead. With the both of them cutting their hair, Togame had to admit he almost missed his mullet. He enjoyed it while it lasted...
Maybe he'd grow it out again.
"It is," he agrees after a moment's pause, reaching up to rub at the stubble at the back of his head. "They did a good job with both our hair cuts, wouldn't you agree?"
@shishitoren-vc, starter call —— ❝ my hair feels so weird now! ❞ he hasn't been able to stop himself from running his hands through the short strands all day. a haircut was sorely overdue, sure, but is he supposed to feel so much lighter after one? choji doesn't know! he grins up at his companion, rocking back and forth on his feet as his hand runs through his hair again—— oops! there he goes again. well, it's not like he'll stop himself. ❝ kame-chan, is it the same for you too? ❞

In the end, Togame didn't have a say in what was happening in Shishitoren... he wasn't the leader, and quite frankly he didn't want to be. Though with that said, the man did quite a bit in the group to keep it held together. No matter if he had to tread upon shattered glass and patch it himself, he'd keep Shishitoren going...
Though with this new suggestion, Togame could feel another shatter in the already fragile glass that was their gang, already attempting to patch the glass with what meager utensils he had at his disposal.
"Because as soon as we start fighting within own ranks-" Togame stops, watching as Choji looks at him with those deadened eyes, a shiver racking through his body that has him withdrawing further in on himself. There would be no changing his mind, and he damn well knew it. There would be fighting amongst their ranks now, whether Togame wanted it to happen or not...
Though he had one last ditch effort to try to sway him in mind... and could only hope that it didn't earn him a swift blow to the side of the head as a result.
"You knooooow-" he drags out the word, perching his arm atop of his knee as he looks forward, feigning disinterest. "-Bofurin doesn't do this sort of thing, and they're aaaaawfully happy over there. Maybe we should go ask Umemiya what he does that gets him so much success..." a distraction... a desperate one.
The reaction he gets isn't the one he's looking for and the smile he wears is quick to flatline when he casts his gaze in Togame's direction. Why? Why was he choosing to pump the breaks when Choji was so eager to hit the gas? He was getting in the way. There's a smaller part of him that considers that to be too harsh a statement, but it's quickly drowned out by what plagues him. What ails him. That doesn't mean anything to someone that's already decided strength was everything. They weren't supposed to cling to losers, so what was it that Togame was so desperate to hold on to in the weak?
Obstacles, so many obstacles stood in the way of freedom. Why was Togame choosing to be one of them?
"We don't have any room for losers," he put, simply. "There's no use babying those that can't hold their own." The signature chipper tune in his voice is fading with every word, so lost in the idea of curing this undeniable void within him that he couldn't fathom seeing the man beside him, just his position. "Whether it's us or another gang, what's it matter? We're still culling the weak. Why does it matter to you who does it?" Choji's hands rested at his ankles, tucked beneath him, crisscrossed. "Maybe you're comfortable waiting, but I'm still racing to the finish line."
What happened to racing together? Was Togame just throwing all of that away now?
A line that seemed to move every time Choji thought he was within reach. Being at the top was supposed to make him the free-est man alive but his values were rotting along with his patience. That emptiness sat within him like a curse, festering, waiting for the next time Choji would attempt to ignore its advances with another bloodied fist on a suspecting body with disappointing results. That brief wave of euphoria— bliss whenever he was in rhythm with someone else is what he chased. It's what keeps him going and what he couldn't begin to describe but wanted Togame to understand.
"Waiting is just wasting time. You're wasting time."

They were alone up on the roof, a fact that's not entirely new or surprising considering how often Togame enjoyed sun bathing. Though this moment wasn't entirely relaxing, considering Choji was here... he was just waiting for some figurative shoe to drop...
And drop it did.
Hearing the crazy idea that is poured past his lips, Togame sits up fully with typically slow actions, looking over to Choji with a frown, eyes half mast as he processes what is being said ... and once he figures out what it was that Choji spoke of? He felt the beginnings of a new kind of dread take over him.
He couldn't let this happen... he couldn't be responsible for more people leaving their group. If this continued, Shishitoren would cease to exist.
"Now why would we do that?" he drawls lazily, "Finding our freedom takes tiiiime, Choji. No need to rush it with internal fighting. We need to be a strong unified front, not fighting against each other." he speaks slowly as usual, propping himself up with his hands behind him in order to face Choji fully.
@shishitoren-vc's Jo wished upon a Shooting Star!
"Hey hey, Kame-chan," soulless is an understatement to describe the despair in those eyes, unbefitting of such a chipper tone. "Wouldn't it speed things up if we culled out the weak? Our guys are too weak to be free and we'll never get there at this rate so let's speed it up." Impatience is what drives him and it would decide the fate of everyone around him. "We should all be fighting daily, so we can free ourselves from the burden." Burden of life? Choji fails to recognize what is actually burdening him, and doesn't seek for an answer, but rather a distraction that would help feed the void he can never seem to satisfy. "We should be looking for people to take on." He needed something to fend off this nauseating boredom. Anything. Anyone worthy of taking a punch or two. A body to take the pain he endured alone, that's what he craved.
