This Week’s Horrible-Scopes
It’s time for this week’s Horrible-Scopes! So for those of you that know your Astrological Signs, cool! If not, just pick one, roll a D12, or just make it up as you go along. It really doesn’t matter. Better yet! Check out “Heart of the Game, Fredonia” and see if they can sell you those D12’s with the symbols on them. Tell them “Shujin Tribble” sentcha. And “Hail, Hail, Fredonia!” Home of the Blue Devil!
It’s properly SUMMERTIME! Which means no matter how old or young you are you instantly recognize the bell ringing or crappy music playing sound of the ICE CREAM TRUCK APPROACHING! Get your money ready, folks… because you’ve got a date with the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Man! (Exact Change only, please. No Venmo. Buy-One, Get-One for anyone sharing with their dogs first… ONLY VANILLA FOR THE DOGS!)
Aries
You get the One… True… CLASSIC on this list! For $1.50 you get the Red, White, and Blue “Bomb Pop JR.” It’s more Ice than Ice Cream, but who cares?! It’s a masterpiece that never goes out of style, even if it’ll stain your favorite t-shirt permanently. So This Week… Take out the trash and clean your room already! You’ve got the best brain freeze of your life waiting for you.
Taurus
You’re getting something that gets a reaction of either “I’m All In” or “Destroy That Abomination”. At $4.00 you’re getting a “Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich”. Now, before anyone starts grabbing pitchforks and torches let’s remember; this is what Taurus chose for themselves. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it. And if you REALLY want it, you can always offer to trade with them. So This Week… Hone your negotiation skills before someone trades your ice cream for a deformed Spider-Man Pop.
Gemini
Not to be outdone you’re ALSO getting an ice cream sandwich, but, arguably, a superior version. Grab up $5.00 and you can get the M&M Ice Cream Sandwich! What could be better than a chocolate-chip cookie with ice cream? Replacing the chips with M&Ms! So This Week… You’ve never brushed your teeth after any meal. But this time, we’re gunna suggest you do that. You can’t afford to lose any teeth this time.
Cancer Moon-Child
The shape isn’t anything to write home about, looking like something you could make with the Tupperware Popsicle set. But at $1.75 it’s no joke on taste. You’re getting the Cotton Candy flavoured ice cream on a stick. Yes, the colours are oddly reminiscent of Fluttershy, being pink and yellow swirled together, but who doesn’t love sugar-frosted frozen sugar on a stick? So This Week… Yes, you could just buy a cotton candy machine for yourself, but this is more fun! Indulge in some whimsey for a change.
Leo
You’re the adult in the group this time, Leo, and we’re just as shocked as you are about this turn of events. You’re shelling out $6.00, but you’re getting a Whole Pint Cup of Choco-Vanilla Twist Ice Cream! Better yet, you don’t have to share! It’s all yours! So This Week… If you want to make it feel like you’re still a kid, ask the ice cream man for one of those wood paddle-spoons to eat it with.
Virgo
Don’t think the naming on your ice cream is wrong - it’s just clever marketing. Being called the Load’d Sundae Cookie Crunch n’ Fudge it clocks in at $5.50, and it’s the closest you’re gunna get to a sit-down sundae while broiling in the shade of a maple tree. So This Week… Make sure you check all the trees in the area before you sit under them. If you see something that looks like a football hanging in the branches and none of your friends is named “Charlie Brown”, Stay Away!
Libra
You’re Too Cool for all this IcE CrEaM nonsense. Grab your $5.00 and enjoy a Rosati Coconut Ice. Flavoured Shaved Ice is a treat that’s been around for literal centuries! And yes, it’s possible to make ice in the middle of the desert. So This Week… You can be a kid and an adult at the same time - and this is your big chance. Worst case see if you can find the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine and make it yourself. And remember: Logenberry is your friend!
Scorpio
We don’t know what to make of this one, but.. HEY! It’s your face to stuff, right? Get your $3.75 out and get ready to stuff your gob with a Banana Fudge Bomb Pop. Yes, it’s the same shape and size as the classic Original Bomb Pop JR., but it’s Banana… and Fudge… And it’s gunna be a weird combination of colours smeared all over your lips. So This Week… Remember - the banana flavouring you’ll taste is from a species of banana that doesn’t exist anymore. So think about that, you monster.
Sagittarius
Not to be outdone with all the OTHER Bomb Pops, you’re spending the same $3.75 to get the NERDS Bomb Pop! There’s not much else to say about it. It’s a Bomb Pop… using NERDS for flavoring. So This Week… Honestly, just trade with someone else. The taste on this one leaves so much to be desired.
Capricorn
This is gunna be a great $5.00 spend for you. You might not have a DQ near you, but this’ll be the next best thing. You’re getting the Screamers Cookies and Cream Frozen Shake. For those not familiar, Dairy Queen’s shakes are supposed to be so thick they hand them to you upside-down to prove they’ve got the best! So This Week… Get Thyself To A DQ and order a BLIZZARD!!
Aquarius
Too many people think we intentionally pick on you, that we single you out for no other reason but that we can. And you know what we say to that? “Prove It! You Won’t! No Balls!” So get your $2.50 ready ‘cause you’re getting not JUST a classic, but the closest thing to a malt shop sundae. You’re getting the Homemade Vanilla ice cream pop, covered in a hard chocolate shell, just waiting to be crunched into! So This Week… Remember to pace yourself. Only unwrap it from the top and only a little at a time so you don’t lose any pieces as they crumble off as you bite. Remember when you went too fast and lost the whole thing when you were six? Let’s not let that happen again.
Pisces
You’re getting, arguably, The… Worst.. Item.. On.. The.. List. Seriously. You’re getting the last of the Bomb Pops, but not. (*ERF!*) Imagine this - take a Bomb Pop and crush it into a cup to eat it out of, and flavour it as “Icey Watermelon”. Seriously, Pisces? This is truly a waste of your Mow-the-Lawn money of $3.50! So This Week… Tell them all they can just mow their damned lawns themselves. At least you won’t roll over any more Yellow Jacket Nests that way.
And THOSE are your Horrible-Scopes for this week! Remember if you liked what you got, we’re obviously not working hard enough at these. BUT! If you want a better or nastier one for your own sign or someone else’s, all you need to do to bribe me is just Let Me Know - or check out the Ko-Fi page ( https://ko-fi.com/icarusthelunarguard )! These will be posted online at the end of each week via Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Discord, and BLUESKY.

Tips for Serving and Enjoying Your Dessert Creation
Once your masterpiece is complete, it's time to serve and enjoy your dessert creation. Here are some tips to ensure an exceptional dining experience:
Use elegant serving dishes or individual dessert glasses to showcase the layers of your dessert.
Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, or a sprig of fresh mint for an added touch of sophistication.
Serve with a side of whipped cream, an ice cream scoop of vanilla or a dab of flavoured yoghurt to enhance the overall taste and presentation.
Please encourage your guests to savour each layer, allowing the flavours to unfold on their palate.
Pair with a complementary beverage to enhance the taste experience further.
The Perfect Pairings: Beverages to Accompany Your Dessert
To elevate your dessert experience, consider the perfect beverage pairings that will complement the flavours of chocolate, vanilla, and cookies. Here are a few suggestions:
A robust red wine with a lot of body, like a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Syrah, may highlight the variety and depth of the chocolate.
For a refreshing twist, try a chilled glass of milk or a creamy latte, which harmonizes beautifully with the vanilla swirls and cookie crunch.
If you prefer non-alcoholic options, a cup of aromatic tea or a frothy hot chocolate can contrast the dessert's sweetness.
Health-Conscious Options: Exploring Lighter Alternatives
Indulging in a decadent dessert doesn't have to mean compromising on health. There are several ways to create lighter alternatives that still capture the essence of the chocolate aesthetic with vanilla swirls and cookie crunch. Consider using low-fat or non-dairy alternatives for the base, such as Greek yogurt or coconut milk. Experiment with natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup to reduce the amount of refined sugar. Incorporate nutritious ingredients like nuts, dried fruits, or chia seeds to add a wholesome twist to your dessert.
Catering to Dietary Restrictions: Vegan and Gluten-Free Options
In today's diverse culinary landscape, catering to various dietary restrictions is essential. For those following a vegan lifestyle or avoiding gluten, there are plenty of options to ensure everyone can enjoy the magic of chocolate aesthetic with vanilla swirls and cookie crunch. Substitute dairy-based products with plant-based alternatives like almond milk or coconut cream. Use gluten-free flour or gluten-free cookie options to accommodate those with gluten sensitivities. You can create an inclusive and satisfying dessert for all with a little creativity and resourcefulness.
The Joy of Sharing: Dessert Ideas for Parties and Gatherings
Desserts have a way of bringing people together and fostering a sense of joy and celebration. Consider incorporating the chocolate aesthetic with vanilla swirls and cookie crunch into your dessert spread when hosting parties or gatherings. Create a dessert bar where guests can assemble their layered creations, choosing from chocolate, vanilla, and cookie options. Offer bite-sized versions of the dessert for easy sampling and sharing. Encourage guests to customize their desserts with various toppings and garnishes, making each creation unique and personal.
Celebrating Seasonal Flavors: Adapting the Recipe for Different Times of the Year
Its versatility is one of the beautiful aspects of the chocolate aesthetic with vanilla swirls and cookie crunch. By adapting the recipe, you can celebrate the flavours of different seasons throughout the year. During the summer, incorporate fresh fruits like berries or citrus zest to bring a vibrant burst of flavour. In the fall, infuse the dessert with warmth using nutmeg or cinnamon to generate a cosy and comforting experience. Sprinkle edible glitter or crushed peppermint candies during the winter holidays for a festive touch. Embrace the seasons and let the flavours of nature inspire your dessert creations.

you're the one that i want (part 3)
word count: 6k
fluff
(part 2) (series masterlist)
you find yourself standing in front of the diner again, rocking back and forth on your feet nervously as you contemplate what to do.
your aunt had asked you over and over again if you were sure you didn't wanna join her and her friend's lunch date today, insisting that you were more than welcomed.
you could only hear that snide voice in your head telling you to stay out of the way and that she doesn't want you there; like always, that voice in your head won.
you waved goodbye to your aunt as she pulled out of the driveway and then, instead of going inside like you should've, your feet took you back to the spot you came to just a few nights ago.
even though you'd be eating alone and didn't particularly want to talk to anyone, you’d find comfort in the other bodies around you opposed to an empty house.
it was exhausting for you, wanting the comfort of others but also being so scared and wary of them that it'd leave you in a panic.
leave you thinking all sorts of irrational thoughts that you knew were irrational but eventually made you crack in some way; it took just a few deep breaths and a careful survey of the area, which was surprisingly empty for lunch time, to go inside.
you were greeted with a smile, the woman behind the counter telling you to sit anywhere and that she'd take your order in a second.
you look around at the booths full of couples and families and immediately regret your decision, feeling your cheeks warm at the fact you're gonna be the only loser eating alone.
even at school, as unpopular and undesired as you were, you had someone to eat with. another lonely soul who had no one but themselves.
it was a silly thing to feel insecure about anyway, eating alone, but when you see a big group of people laughing and talking over a meal, you can't help but feel like you want that too.
it's why you take out your phone and make your way over to one of the bar stools, smiling at the two older men who look at you kindly and say hello.
everyone here in this town thus far seems to be abnormally nice. greeting you with smiles, holding the door open, always making sure you're acknowledged and included.
even the boy you talked to at the bonfire, seonghwa, who you thought was on the meaner side showed he, too, was considerate.
even with his hard stares and quiet, unbothered demeanor, he made sure you were okay. made sure you weren't about to throw yourself off a cliff and caught you before you slammed your head on the rocks.
his hand on your waist was quick, a simple small gesture that shouldn't have left you as flustered as it did, but there's just something about him that makes you nervous.
maybe it's just that this whole environment is a culture shock for you, adding on to the fact that he's attractive boy who looked your way.
you shake your head of the nonsense thoughts running through your mind, watching as the woman behind the counter asks if you're ready to order. you wait for your chicken and shake as you tap at your phone, not surprised to see you have zero messages or missed calls.
you dial your mom's number and listen to the ring, biting at your lip and hoping for a response; if they're not gonna tell you they made it back home okay, you'd like to at least reach out and hear it for yourself.
that's something they find annoying, your constant assurance to make sure they're okay - ever since you'd gotten your phone in middle school, it was like a role reversal.
you were always the one asking your parents if they were okay and if they were coming home, after hours of silence and being alone in your house. alone with your thoughts and anxious brain that’d concoct some dramatic tale of a car accident or workplace disaster until you worked yourself into a panic.
when they did eventually get home, your calls to them unanswered, they'd only look at you with a roll of their eyes and tell you you were on your own for dinner.
it really made no sense, why you worried so much and why you cared about them the way you did.
you don't think they're ever gonna change and that's evident in the way both of them ignore your phone calls again today. you let out a sigh, ending the call with a pout and placing it on the table.
"here you go," you hear the woman's voice say, stopping the negative thoughts before they could plague your mind and make you feel even worse.
"thank you," you smile up at her, unaware of the footsteps making their way toward you as you dig through the back pocket of your shorts. "how much was it again?"
"$13.06."
before you can put the crumpled up twenty dollar bill in her palm, a hand with long fingers adorned with black rings throws one down.
"and a chocolate vanilla swirl with cookie crunch please," you hear a familiar deep voice say.
your body stiffens feeling him, hearing him, behind you, nearly pressed against your back as the two men who were next to you squeeze out of the tight space to leave.
his arm reaches over your shoulder as he hands her the money, his voice right in your ear as he lowly speaks to the woman.
you hold your breath until he's away from you, plopping down on the bar stool a seat away and nodding his head at you.
"hey."
you give him a small smile, his tanned face and dry hair an indication he probably hasn't been in the ocean yet today; yunho had mentioned the other night they usually go surfing every day.
"hi. um... why did you do that?"
his eyebrow raises, lips twitching but remaining straight as he looks at you.
"do what?"
"pay for me," you say, looking between him and the plate of food in front of you.
"saw you struggling," he says with a shrug.
"but i had the money," you tell him, "so let me give you-"
"consider it a welcome gift," the boy says, shaking his head as you start to dig into your pocket again. "yunho says i have to be nicer. friendlier. and that seems like some shit he'd do."
and while that's the truth, he came in and saw the way your face grew more and more sad as you held your phone to your ear.
the way you started out with an apprehensive look, moving your head back and forth as the phone rang before frowning when whoever was supposed to be on the line didn't answer.
when you tried again, you looked about ready to cry; if there's one thing he hates more than a summer romance, it's people crying.
not even because of the awkwardness of it all or the sounds of it, it's just not knowing what the hell to do. how to properly comfort a person or think of something to say to them.
paying for a meal seemed like a good way to prevent such a disaster. it'd definitely be yunho approved.
you feel your lips pull into a smile, giggling quietly at the way he seems so unsure but also confident. everything about him just screams pure confidence, the way he stares into a person's soul and immediately commands their attention.
"well thank you but i'm gonna pay you back somehow," you tell him quietly.
he rolls his eyes at your insistence, taking his drink from the waitress and sipping from the blue straw.
"if that makes you feel better," he says lowly.
his mouth twists in an odd fashion as brain freeze takes over, popping his neck to the side before he watches you take a bite of your sandwich.
"what're you doing here?"
your eyes widen when you realize he's watching you stuff your face, chewing rapidly before wiping at your mouth.
"i- uh... my aunt went out with her friend and i didn't wanna intrude but i also didn't feel like being alo-
alone, you want to say, but that sounds sad and pathetic even to your own ears.
"in the house," you squeak out, “i didn’t wanna be in the house.” you pop a french fry in your mouth before pushing your plate towards him. "you want one?"
"no thanks, i'm about to go surf."
you nod your head in understanding, pulling the plate back to you and toying with another fry.
"oh, right. so you can't eat for 30 minutes."
his deep chuckle causes you to look at him in confusion, eyebrows pulled together; had you said something funny?
he catches your look immediately, licking at his lips as he bites down on the pretty, red skin.
"that's a myth," he tells you, sipping on his drink casually.
"really?" you hum in fascination.
you remember your aunt telling you that all the time when you first started visiting, not allowing you anywhere near the pool or ocean after you guys had a barbecue.
"really," he smirks, looking over at you and watching the way you quickly avert your gaze. "you surf?"
you giggle at the question, chewing down the last of your sandwich as you shake your head.
"god no, i'd be a disaster."
he raises a brow at your self depreciating tone, watching as you pick at your food.
you hate that it seems like he watches every movement of yours carefully, like he's gonna somehow learn all about you and your sad life just by watching you eat a chicken sandwich.
"have you ever tried?"
you immediately shake your head, always wanting to take the little lessons offered down at the beach but feeling dejected when you saw it was usually full of seven and eight year olds who were already far better than you.
"no, i always tried to learn at those, like, classes down at the beach," you chuckle out awkwardly. "but it’s always a bunch of little kids who are already so good. a bit embarrassing."
he nods his head, humming thoughtfully as he takes one last sip of his drink.
a silence hangs between the both of you for a few minutes, your quiet chewing drowned out by the loud bustle of conversation and forks clattering against plates.
he pushes his empty cup toward the worker, a small smile on his face as she takes it before telling him she forgot to give him his change.
"it's fine," he says, turning toward you and missing the way the woman's eyes soften at him. "you doin' anything now?"
you nearly choke on the french fry as you swallow it, shaking your head silently in an effort to not make a fool of yourself. he's just making conversation, it's not like he's about to ask you-
"wanna finally learn?”
your heart quickens at the thought of him teaching you how to surf. standing next to him in the ocean, the sun beaming down on him and his strong but gentle hands guiding you and the board.
you don't know if your heart could handle it honestly, feeling his hands on your wet skin and his body so close to yours.
"i don't know," you say after swallowing, trying to control your shaky voice. "i don't wanna, like, hold you back or anything."
his eyebrow raises as he looks at you, narrowing his eyes slightly at the way your cheeks warm. "wouldn't be," he says, surprised by his invitation in the first place - yunho would be shitting his pants right now. "i offered."
"i know, but..."
i'm too intimidated and don't wanna make a fool out of myself in front of you.
you make me really nervous and i think it has everything to do with the fact that you're the most attractive person i've ever seen.
i definitely don't have the athletic ability to be a surfer and i'm secretly a little scared of it.
"it seems hard," is the final dumb response you decide to go with.
he lets out a short chuckle, his face twisting into one of amusement and confusion.
"yeah, that's why i'd be teaching you," he says.
you only respond with a nervous chuckle, licking at your lips and he can see maybe being put on the spot had made you uncomfortable.
so after a minute of waiting, he runs his hand through his dirty blonde hair.
"it's fine, y/n," his deep voice says, watching your face get more and more unsure as the silence stretches. "just figured you wouldn't wanna be..."
the way he looks over your face causes you to shrink in on yourself, his eyes piercing yours so candidly like he already knows you and your fears.
"in the house."
words are threatening to leave your mouth but it's like your trapped under his gaze and can't do anything.
can't speak or move or breathe as he rises from his chair in his usual unbothered fashion and leans against it to look you over once more, your eyes catching the way his hand splays out on the counter.
"i'll see you 'round, y/n," he says lowly, raising ever so slightly when he says goodbye to the waitress behind the counter.
you hear his footsteps start to retreat, turning your neck back to see him pushing open the turquoise door of the diner.
"wait.”
Tumblr media
you're not sure how long you were in the water but you know enough time had elapsed to make your fingers pruney.
your sides are sore from falling off the board and into the water so many times and you can feel the sunburn making its way on your cheeks.
"seonghwa, this is impossible," you whine, popping up from the water and running your hand through your soaked hair. "i can't even stand on it. i've fallen off 30 times already."
"try a hundred," he mumbles, your lips falling into a pout that makes him smirk. "c'mon, let's try one more time."
you look at him with a pained expression, the sun shining down on his tanned, wet face a sight you're still not used to. he disregards your crushed spirit completely, holding the board steadily with one hand, his other ushering you over with his long fingers.
"let's go," he commands.
who are you to not listen?
you think he could tell you to go out and catch a shark and you would, just because the power and authority in his voice is too much for you to handle.
you jump up and straddle it the way you've perfected over these multiple attempts, forcing a smile that makes his own stretch across his face.
"good," he says, moving you slightly as you move around to the front. "now stand."
"i can't," you whine, getting sick and tired and unbelievably frustrated of falling over and over. "thank you for teaching me and i'm sorry for wasting your time but-"
his hand flying in the air immediately causes you to squeeze your eyes shut, flinching away as you expect the familiar sharp pain on your face.
a palm slapping your cheek is the first thing you register, the unfamiliar sting on your face causing you to step backward and hit into the wall.
"why are you causing trouble, huh?" your dad sneers, the test marked with red x's crumpled up in his hand.
it was the third math quiz you'd failed that month, resulting in the teacher calling your home to recommend tutoring or a parent-teacher conference.
whether it was your stupidity that enraged him or the reminder that he was a parent to a living, breathing child, your dad came in fuming.
the front door slammed shut as he walked in from work and the knot in your stomach grew tighter. his eyes fell on you sitting stiffly at the dining room table, the pencil trembling in your hand as you shake and try to control your breathing.
you had asked the teacher not to call, to just give you one more chance to pass and that you'd put in extra time before and after school. but she said it was the principal's policy, that she had to call and inform parents after three failures from a student.
"have some bitch calling me because you can't do simple math? are you fucking kidding me?"
"i'm sorry," you mumble, tears stinging your eyes that you know will only make him more mad.
"you're sorry?" he yells, your head smacking against the wall when you jump at him flinging the paper at you. the corner of it slices your cheek, the sharp stinging pain causing you whimper.
"you don't do anything around here, school is the only fucking thing you have to do, and you can't even do that. how are you gonna survive in the world when you’re really in it?”
you know anything you try to say in defense will only make this worse, opting to bow your head and look at your feet. there's a few moments of tense silence, your mom coming around the corner and stopping to look at both of you.
"what happened?" she asks, voice slurring like she just woke from a drunken or pill-induced stupor.
"her teacher called. she failed three tests."
you really never know what to expect from your mother. it's what makes her almost scarier than him.
you know he's always gonna be anger and respond with violence, but her?
sometimes she's soft spoken and supportive, giving you slightly awkward but nevertheless helpful pats on the shoulder when you're upset like this; they're rare moments but they're moments you hold on to because it's the only time you don't feel like a complete waste of a person.
when a breathy laugh escapes her mouth, you know you're not getting that lucky today.
she stumbles over and puts a hand to your red cheek, still stinging from your dads harsh blow, when she smacks it a few times lightly.
"you're a stupid girl, aren't you?" she hums lowly. "i guess we have that in common."
her voice sounds so sad and broken, as sad and broken as you feel almost all the time in this house, that you can't help but think that maybe she's right. her finger softly rubs the red skin and something that looks like a smile crosses your face.
"y/n?" you hear a different voice say, your eyes snapping open to see seonghwa staring at you questioningly. his hand is back down in the ocean, eyes looking at you so intently you start to panic.
your natural reaction when a hand is up is just to expect a slap.
"i- i'm sorry, i-" you stutter, the pounding in your ears lessening as you become aware of the sounds around you again. the crashing of waves, laughter of people, loud screeching of a lifeguard's whistle.
"you're fine," his deep voice assures, his hand steadying the board as he barely grazes your ankle.
something tells him, right now, you don't think you are.
you look like you're on the brink of breaking down right in front of him and he really doesn't know how to deal with that.
"we're just surfing."
you lick at your lips, tasting the salt from the ocean, maybe even some tears, who knows, before you find yourself nodding.
"how 'bout we take a break for today?" he suddenly suggests, stepping closer to you.
his movements are slow but sure, confidence behind every move he takes. even though you just flinched away from him, it's like he's intent on showing you he wasn't gonna hurt you.
"did you put on sunscreen?" he asks, his finger swiping under the redness on your cheeks.
"i-uh-" you breathe out shakily, your heart pounding in your chest at his soft touch on your face.
"that's a no," he says, pulling his hand back as he shakes his head. "you can't forget that, y/n."
you bite your lip as you feel like you're being scolded, sliding off the board and pushing it over toward him.
"i'm sorry," you mumble. his eyebrows pull together at your odd apology, his head cocked to the side as he looks at you. when you don't meet his gaze, instead watching your finger swirl through the ocean, he shakes his head.
"come with me.”
he takes the board under his arm and walks off toward the beach. you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding, watching the toned muscles of his back as he walks toward the beach.
you catch up with seonghwa and follow him to where you left your things, drying off your body before throwing on your tank top and denim shorts. once he sees you're done, he wordlessly turns around and leads you guys to the exit.
"where are we gong?" you ask, tripping over your feet on the hot sand.
"to get you a drink.”
"but i'm not-" he turns to look at you sternly, eyeing your red, burnt face and it's all you need to quickly shut your mouth.
he wants to smirk at how quickly you fall silent and listen to him but something about it unnerves him. he can't quite pinpoint what but nonetheless it makes him speak up again.
"you're burnt and have been in the sun for hours. you need some liquids."
you nod your head in understanding, smiling softly at him as you mumble "okay."
the shuffling of your feet and the board hitting his back occasionally is the only sound between you two, biting your lip indecisively before your voice bubbles up from your throat.
"how long have you been surfing?"
it's blurted out a little awkwardly but it does the trick to break the silence, seonghwa looking over at you as he tells you he started surfing when he was ten.
how, at first, he had no intention of learning and thought it was something people did to just look cool; but then he found that he really liked it, that he longed for summer now so he could do one of the things that calms him most.
"that sounds nice," you say quietly. "i just don't know if i'm cut out for it."
he doesn't say anything in response, stopping in front of a little hut with barrels of lemonade and fruit juice.
"two waters, please," he mumbles, throwing a five dollar bill on the table before you can even dig your hand in your pocket.
"hey, i was supposed to pay now," you whine, digging around and shoving the twenty dollar bill toward him.
"it was $2, y/n," he says, looking down at the money like it's a dirty piece of laundry.
you let out a sigh, narrowing your eyes at him before regretfully shoving it back in your pocket. he hands you the water with a smirk, twisting open his own cap and dipping his head back as he gulps it down.
you can't help but watch his glistening face and chest on display, the salt water still sticking to his body.
his adams apple bobs as he gulps down the water, tongue flicking out to lick the access off the corner of his lip. he raises an eyebrow at you when he realizes you've been staring, nodding his head toward your unopened bottle.
"drink," he says, slightly breathless from the large intake of water.
your eyebrows furrow but you twist open the cap regardless, sipping down the cold liquid and immediately flooding with relief you didn't know you needed.
you pull back with a sigh, closing the cap and smiling at him shyly.
"okay, maybe i did need a drink."
"no shit," he chuckles, his lips quirking up into a half smile that makes your heart start to stutter; this boy really is too handsome, you have no business spending your day with him.
"you're kind of bossy, you know," you surprise yourself by saying.
you wanna think it's uncharacteristic of you to tease but then you suppose you never really got the chance to find out.
"oh?" he says, eyebrow raised as he looks down at you.
"drink," you mimic, your voice dropping in a poor interpretation. he looks to the side as his tongue pokes at his cheek, his mouth quirking up further into a smirk.
"well, you're kind of a shitty surfer," he retorts, a girlish giggle escaping you before you can even stop it. your arm moves to reach out and smack him playfully before your brain screams at you to stop.
"and i warned you!" you squeal, voice pitched just a bit higher than your usual quiet, mousy tone.
"i know, it's fine," he says, taking another sip from his drink. "we'll get you there one day."
your face falls slightly as you crane your neck to the side, looking him up and down in confusion.
you had figured today was just a one time thing, especially after your little freak out, but now that made it seem like...
"you're- you're gonna teach me more?"
he smiles at your resemblance to a confused puppy, biting his lip to try and control it from spreading across his face.
"do you wanna learn more?"
"i mean... yeah," you admit quietly. "but i don't wanna take up your time. because like you saw, i'm really bad and it'll probably only get..."
your words falter off when you see his questioning, almost amused eyes don't leave your face.
"what?" you squeak, feeling yourself grow even more warm and unsure under his gaze.
"nothing," he smirks, "you just seem to think i'm a lot busier than i am."
you only find yourself blinking at him, hoping you don't look as stupid as you feel; but that's unlikely, since you don't have any clue on how to respond to that.
"no, you're not taking up or wasting any of my time," he says, his tone blunt and short and he'd roll his eyes if he didn't already pick up on your hypersensitivity.
your fallen lips quirk into the smallest of smiles and he thinks he likes seeing that a lot better.
"well, if you're sure..." you say and he can't help but roll his eyes now, turning the board to smack you lightly on the arm before walking into the shade.
you trail behind him with a smile on your face, biting at your lip and telling your frantic heart not to get ahead of itself; you're not sure it can take much more and a handsome boy with eyes like that would surely be the thing to break it entirely.
Tumblr media
you and seonghwa walk around until the sun starts to set, his phone blaring in his pocket before he answers with an annoyed huff.
"what?" he answered gruffly, the whiney voice on the other side of the phone causing him to roll his eyes. "no, jongho, dolphins weren't spotted today."
you look over and dig your teeth in your lip as you smile, the annoyed expression on seonghwa's face only making the the urge to laugh stronger. "why did you call me?" he huffs, rolling his eyes when the boy's words grow more frantic and loud. "whatever, i'll be there in twenty."
he hangs up as the boy starts to speak again, ignoring the loud call of his name as he presses the red button. "sorry," he hums. you smile up at him as you shake your head, playing with the ends of your hair nervously as he puts his phone away.
there's a silence between you two until you finally look up again, the boy's eyes on you watching you fiddle with your sea salt waves.
"thank you for today," you blurt out, not allowing your brain to stop you or make you feel weird about anything. "everyone's been so nice and made me feel really welcomed here, yourself included."
your sweet words cause something in his heart to tug, the softest smile you've seen today crossing his face. "everyone's good here," he agrees, remembering he used to think the same thing when he first started coming here. it almost seems unnatural or inauthentic at first, the friendly smiles and overwhelming kindness, especially when this kind of treatment is so unfamiliar.
"yeah," you say with a smile, rocking back and forth on your feet slightly. "but i should get going. my aunt's probably home by now and wondering where i am."
"right," he says, a weird, unfamiliar part of him wanting to stay and linger with you. but he knows he can't do that, that jongho's call is gonna come through again any second now and ruin whatever moment he thinks is happening. "i'll walk you then."
"that's not neces-" but before you can even finish, he takes off in the direction of yunho's.
you let out huff as you shake your head, catching up to him and looking at him with narrowed eyes. "you don't listen, you know."
he only smirks at that comment, shrugging his shoulders carelessly before a car coming up the street catches his attention. he immediately takes you by the arm, dragging you in front of him and placing you on the inside of his body farthest away from the vehicle.
the car zooms past and he stares it down, your own eyes widening slightly when you realize what he's wordlessly done. but then his nonchalant stare ahead and confident trot makes it seem like he didn't even realize it, like your heart isn't threatening to jump out of your chest and you're not feeling an embarrassing amount of warmth shoot through your chest as the boy's actions.
it almost distracts you from the weight of the item in your pocket but then your arms brush and it sends more sparks through you. your body's reaction to him is absolutely ridiculous, telling yourself tonight you're gonna have to work on not acting in such a way.
because if you're gonna be with him everyday this week, in the water as he holds your waist and hand, you're gonna have to learn not to be such a disaster.
"so is 11 good for tomorrow?" you hear his deep voice ask, craning your neck up to look at him and realizing you're already on your aunts block. you'd been so caught up in your own head, as usual, you hadn't even realized how close you were; but he must mistake your confusion because his eyebrows pull together questioningly as he looks down at you.
"surfing?"
"oh. right. yeah, of course," you giggle out as you nod your head. "sure, 11′s good."
"alright, i'll probably be at yunho's so i'll wait here," he says, the both of you now standing in front of the house.
you stop in front of him and nod your head, smile softly at him and feeling nervousness flood through you. the silly, small item in your pocket now feels like it's a hundred pounds and the voice in your head is screaming at you for being so foolish.
"al-alright, thank you again," you say quietly. "i had fun today. even though i'm a really bad student and definitely wasting your time."
his tongue shoots out to lick his lips, shaking his head as his eyes roll at your comment. "not wasting anything, i'd be out there anyway." you purse your lips to the side questioningly, his blank stare unwavering and looking right at you.
"okay, if you say so..." you say in defeat, cocking your head to the side playfully despite feeling yourself flush the more he looks at you. it's only making you more aware of the weight in your denim pocket and how you know you're probably gonna chicken out.
a loud gasp coming from your aunt's open window causes you both to snap your heads to the side, two heads of curly hair immediately ducking down and out of the glass.
"you idiot!" you hear one of them yelp, your lips pressing into a firm line; you don't know if you're about to scream or laugh.
"shut up! they didn't see us."
seonghwa's short, deep chuckle is the thing to break you, choking out a flustered laugh of your own as you walk backwards to the house. "guess i should get inside," you tell him. he bites his lip as he smiles slightly, nodding as he watches you turn around and shuffle awkwardly up the house.
he's still watching when you get to the stairs and suddenly halt, taking a deep breath before whipping around and walking back over to him. your face is slightly paled and apprehensive but there's also some odd look of...determination, he thinks.
"i forgot to give you something," you blurt out. he raises an eyebrow at you, looking at you questioningly because what could you possibly have to give him? he watches you fish in your back pocket and take out a little statue of some kind, holding it out in your palm.
"to pay you back for my food. and the water. it's just small but i thought it was cute and it could be a little thank you gift for allowing me to-"
he takes it from your hand carefully, holding it up to his face as he tries to hold back a smile.
"can we go in there?" you ask him, noticing a small store with sweatshirts and hats in the window. his neck cranes to look at you before following your gaze, a grimace immediately covering his face.
"the gift shop?"
you hear the disgust in his voice, knowing it's probably a spot that floods with tourists and big groups of rowdy foreigners, but you nod anyway, hoping the small smile on your face will be enough to persuade him. and even though he rolls his eyes, he veers right and directly toward the shop.
you smile to yourself before going in, pretending to walk around and browse until he's distracted while looking at postcards. you grab a little statue of a turtle on a purple surfboard, sunglasses on his smiling face and you think it's the perfect item to give him to thank him for your meal and drink today.
after paying, you stick it in your pocket and throw out the bag, walking up to him without any evidence. "nothing?" he asks, looking at your empty hands. you shake your head and turn around so your face doesn't give away the lie, hearing his feet following behind you.
"so you did get something," is all he says, looking up to see a shy look on your pink face. you choke out a laugh as you nod your head, "sneaky, right?"
a chuckle leaves his mouth as he nods his head, looking over the turtle's smiling face and he hates how overpriced this probably was.
but he can't bring himself to say anything negative, not with how you look like a mix of being proud but also on the verge of a nervous breakdown. "wasn't necessary," he mumbles, shaking his head but keeping the turtle tight in his hold anyway.
"it was, i-i wanted to," you tell him, "especially since you were nice enough to-"
"y/n! who's your handsome friend!" you hear a woman's voice yell from inside the house, turning around to see your aunt's friend sporting her sunhat again. "does he wanna stay for dinner?"
your eyes widen at the thought of three middle aged woman hounding this boy with question after question, most definitely blurting out something embarrassing that would keep you up all night and make you miss your surfing lesson.
seonghwa smirks seeing your terrified face turn toward him, shaking his head as he meets your wide eyes. "i gotta get to jongho, but tell them maybe next time."
you nod, smiling at him one last time before softly saying goodbye. and this time when you awkwardly shuffle up to the door, you turn around and wave to him before going in the house.
he smirks watching through the window as women surround you in a flash, questioning looks and frantic, loud voices attacking you left and right. he looks down at the turtle one more time, turning it in his hand as a quiet chuckle leaves his mouth.
"cute," he mumbles, shaking his head before sticking it safely in the pocket of his swimsuit.
