Oxalate stones  form  due to > 40 mg of oxalate in urine per day.  Oxalate stones are made from ascorbic acid and glyoxylic acid.  Glyoxylate is converted to glycine by pyridoxine or vitamin B6.  In addition to reducing oxalate production by vitamin B6 intake, calcium is necessary for binding oxalate in gastrointestinal tract and thus reducing oxalate accumulation.  Oxalabacter formigenes has been associated with decreased levels of oxalate.  Therefore, oxalate stone reduction is associated with vitamin B6, calcium, and oxalabacter formigenes consumption.
