The rise and fall of Sang-Woo’s chest under your head is the most comforting thing you’ve ever experienced. Your breathing matches his. The way his arms are wrapped snugly around your body feels like absolute bliss. You’ve never, ever felt this safe before.
It is your first time ever spending the night at Sang-Woo’s apartment. The thrill of a brand new relationship is enough to make you nervous as is, but your heart fluttered at the thought of your 6ft, handsome, toned boyfriend’s body laying underneath you right this very second.
Small, short snores fall from his beautiful mouth. You file the snores under “cute and adorable” instead of “obnoxious and grating”, only because they’re coming from your beloved.
Despite being comfy and secure you still can’t sleep due to the unfamiliarity of Sang-Woo’s bedroom. The plain, mature decor isn’t very homey, but hey, he lives a simple 47-year-old-businessman lifestyle. You also can’t sleep because you’ve never lied on top of perfection before.
Spending the night is a right of passage in a relationship, you think. This is domestic. This is what couples do. You are the last thing he saw before he fell asleep and you will be the first thing he sees when you wake up.
Sang-Woo has been extremely serious about you lately and you know he loves you. You know you love him too. Everything is still so brand new though.
“Y/N my darling are you okay?” He mumbles out, his brain still clouded by sleep.
“Yeah I’m okay. Just having a little trouble sleeping is all.”
“What’s wrong beautiful? Are you uncomfortable?” He asks sleepily.
“No baby I’m very comfortable. Just not used to sleeping away from home that’s all.”
“Hmm well I’m here to hold you, love. Just relax. Goodnight.” He sweetly says before drifting back into sleep. You snuggle deeper into his chest and focus on his heartbeat.
Steady beats that are for you and only you. All the blood flows through his body for you. Every breath he breathes is for you. He somehow pulls you even closer in his sleep.
Cho Sang-Woo is a man of few words. Introverted. Analytical. Highly intelligent. However, if you could channel into his brain for one second, you would see that the love he has for you is never ending and undying.
You look up at him. The moonlight shining through the window caresses his beautiful features. Your heart flutters once more, that feeling of brand new love creating excitement within you.
Your eyelids become heavy and your breathing slows. You know deep in your heart, deep in your soul, that Cho Sang-Woo is your soulmate. He’s the last thing on your mind before entering a deep slumber.

Best of Wives and Best of Women
Paring: Cho Sang-woo x GN!Reader
Summary: Y/N is no stranger to Sang-woo leaving on business trips, it's common for them at this point. So when their husband leaves for another so call "trip" they unknowingly bid goodbye to him for what may be the last time.
Warnings: angsty-ish? i'd call it more bittersweet if that.
A/N: this fic is completely gender neutral just named after the song from the musical "Hamilton"
also
ELIZA MY BELOVED 😭
The smell of smoke invaded Y/N's senses as they woke up from the small bed the two of them shared. Their husband's silhouette stood out from the bright Ssangmun-dong lights, his figure leaning over the railing of the balcony.
“Sang-woo?” They called out softly, sleep laced into their voice. Stepping out onto the platform with him, they turned their gaze towards their husband. He still looked as handsome as the day they had wed, standing in a clean suit tailored precisely to his form. “Love, come back to sleep.”
An almost finished cigarette was held between his pointer and middle finger, smoke coming from his lips. “I have an early meeting out of town.” He replied, still taking in the city.
“Like last time?” They questioned.
Their husband had disappeared for an entire day, not even answering their texts nor calls. They knew his job took time, and they knew he’d never betray them in that way that their high class friends had suggested, but they couldn't help but worry.
Y/N took their eyes away from Sang-woo's face and gazed towards the city. “It’s still dark outside…” they commented.
“The higher ups and want me to be out of town earlier just in case.”
Y/N let out a small chuckle.
“Why do you work like you’re running out of time?” Watching him with an unreadable expression they sighed. They never could figure out what was going on in that constantly running mind of his, no matter how hard they tried. “How long will you be gone?”
“A week.”
And finally, he looked at them with something in his eyes. If it was determination or sadness, they couldn’t quite tell. Perhaps both. All they knew was that there was something unspoken between them:
That he loved them and they loved him.
“I’ll be back before you know I’m gone.” Sang-woo whispered, bring his hand up to cup their face. Leaning into his warmth, they smiled sleepily.
“Well I’m going back to sleep.”
And as Sang-woo watched them return to bed, he called out "Y/N" Yet when they turned around, giving them an innocent look, he opened his mouth only to close it.
Shaking their head, Y/N smiled softly. "Go ahead love. I'll see you soon."

Do I understand that sangwoo’s circumstances put him in a place where he had to make difficult moral decisions and ultimately felt like he was doing what needed to be done and blaming him would be negligent to the true villains of the story, those creating and perpetuating the situation in which decisions like this had to be made, and that sangwoo really cannot be judged on the moral ground that we would judge ourselves and our peers—people in entirely different circumstances—in?
no, ali abdul rights forever.

A non-romantic K-drama starter pack
If you're interested in K-dramas but don't know where to begin, and aren't interested in (or would like to take a break from) romantic storylines, then this is for you!
P.S.: Some of these dramas may contain romantic side plots that don't necessarily define the main storyline. List not sorted in any particular order, and only includes completed dramas.
Gifs not mine!
Stranger (2017; 2019)
A political crime thriller full of red herrings, "Stranger" (Season 1) follows an investigation into the murder of a man who has bribed countless officials from multiple levels and branches of government. Led by stoic prosecutor Hwang Shi Mok (Cho Seung Woo) and feisty detective Han Yeo Jin (Bae Doona), this well-paced, well-acted drama is full of twists and turns that will make you suspect everyone at some point.
Kingdom (2019; 2020)
Historical political drama meets zombie thriller in the 2019 hit "Kingdom" (Season 1). The story follows Crown Prince Yi Chang (Ju Ji Hoon) as he investigates an outbreak of a mysterious plague that turns average citizens into rabid monsters while fighting to keep his rightful place as heir to the throne. The hit series has led to a second season and a prequel TV movie "Ashin of the North" (2021).
Signal (2016)
Featuring a mysterious walkie-talkie that links the past to the present, "Signal" is one of the most beloved police dramas of the last decade because of its refreshing take on the genre and the top-notch performances of its three leads: Kim Hye Soo, Lee Je Hoon, and Jo Jin Woong.
The Uncanny Counter (2020)
"The Uncanny Counter" is a comedy-drama about four "counters", or grim reapers who have been lent superhuman abilities by a group of spirits. Their main job is to stop demons who possess violent criminals that become more powerful by consuming the souls of their victims. Funny, colorful, and action-packed, the show features wonderful performances from the main actors: Jo Byeong Gyu, Yoon Joon Sang, Kim Se Jeong, and (my personal favorite) Yeom Hye Ran. The hit series has been granted a second season.
Racket Boys (2021)
If you need a feel-good drama that's not too heavy on the tears, crime, and lovey-dovey tropes, then this may be for you. "Racket Boys" is about an underdog middle school badminton team that dreams to make a mark on the national level and beyond. The rural setting and endearing ensemble cast, led by the talented Tang Jun Sang, allow for lighthearted moments but are never too cartoonish. A puppy love storyline exists between the leads, but it's very wholesome and innocent, and given far less importance than the struggle surrounding the national tournament.
Squid Game (2021)
International smash hit "Squid Game" is about a mysterious organization that selects individuals with impossible debt to participate in a series of children's games to have a shot at winning 45.6 billion won. The catch: only the winner gets to live. Features an amazing ensemble cast led by Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, and impressive newcomer Jung Ho Yeon.
Dear My Friends (2016)
A slice-of-life comedy drama featuring a stellar ensemble cast of the most accomplished Korean actors and actresses over 60, "Dear My Friends" follows 40-year-old writer Park Wan (Go Hyun Jung) as she chronicles the stories of her mother, her aunts, and their families. There are two romantic side stories here but the overall plot is more invested in how your friends can become your family especially after you reach a certain age. Think "Golden Girls" but in Korea. Praise-worthy acting from everyone involved, especially the main quintet: Na Moon Hee, Kim Hye Ja, Go Doo Shim, Park Won Sook, and Oscar winner Youn Yuh Jung.
Live (2018)
"Live" is a slice-of-life, police procedural drama that tells the story of rookies and veterans at Hongil Station in Seoul, where there is no shortage of petty and violent crimes. The crimes featured examine the decisions that South Korean cops have to make especially in dangerous situations wherein the gray areas become even grayer. There are romantic storylines between the four leads but they never overshadow the cases. Wonderful acting, especially from Bae Sung Woo and Bae Jeong Ok who play the veterans Oh Yang Chon and Ahn Jang Mi, respectively. Also stars funny man Lee Kwang Soo and the angelic Jung Yu Mi (Train to Busan).
Vincenzo (2021)
Born in South Korea, adopted into an Italian family, mafia lawyer Vincenzo Cassano (Song Joong Ki) flies back to Seoul after falling out with his adopted brother following the death of his boss/father-figure. His mission is to retrieve gold hidden beneath the dilapidated Geumga Plaza before it is ultimately demolished by the evil Babel Group that constantly harrasses its tennants to move out. Teaming up with the feisty lawyer Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Been, Vincenzo uses mafia tactics in his war against the conglomerate that thinks itself above the law. What sounds like a heavy premise is offset by the physical and witty comedy provided by the charismatic leads and supporting cast. There is romance between the leads (who share great chemistry nonetheless) but it is by no means the driving force of this story. They could have recasted this with two male leads as more of a bromance story and the outcome would be quite similar, but Jeon Yeo Been gives a unique, quirky flair to her character that makes her difficult to replace.
Hyena (2020)
I know I said this wasn't a list for romantic K-Dramas but hear me out. There's romance but it's not what you think (the leads kiss a grand total of 3 times, twice in the first ep then once a little later). "Hyena" explores the world of corporate lawyers who serve the South Korean 1%. It's a dog-eat-dog world where the most conniving and least picky hyena reigns supreme. The hyena in question would be the brilliant renegade lawyer Jang Geum Ja (Kim Hye Soo). Sparks fly as she goes head to head with the by-the-book, elite lawyer Yoon Hee Jae (Ju Ji Hoon), whose ideals are constantly challenged as his world unravels around him. The cases are challenging and the solutions that the leads come up with are intriguing. Romance doesn't drive this drama, but the chemistry between the leads is undeniable.

DATING HEADCANONS [Cho Sang-woo pt. 2]
Doing another Sang-woo post because he's my beloved skrunly, my meow meow even, and I have definitely not done him justice
x Gn!reader, fluff
they/them pronouns
I feel like he's the type to be cold towards everyone except his partner
He does this subconciously, but he gets a little softer around you
He's still not a super emotional guy, but there's a noticable change in attitude
Just like Jun-ho, he's a protective guy
Even though he's generally selfish and prioritizes himself over everyone, he isn't a robot, he feels love
And once he trusts and deeply cares for somebody, he protects them and doesn't let them go
Which is also why he's also relatively possessive, although that has something to do with his ego and selfishness as well, he wants you all to himself
He's working on it though, you're helping him overcome his flaws and hardships, become a better person, and he does the same to you
That's why relationships need communication, nobody's perfect, but you help each other work on yourself
You're very supportive of him, he greatly appreciates that
He doesn't have that much experience dating
He's dated before, obviously, but not in the recent years, because he's usually busy with work
He's been trying to make more time for you ever since you started dating though
One of his favorite passtimes is spending time with you, of course he's gonna make time for you
He'd quit his job just so he could hold you in his arms forever, if he could
Speaking of work, once your relationship gets more serious, he'd take you to work parties and fancy events like that
He wants to show you off, you're the most gorgeous human being to him, how could he not
Even though he's not very into public displays of affection, he's not ashamed of you, he wants the world know that you're his
And he doesn't have to resort to PDA to do that, anyone would know by the way he looks at you, with pure adoration in his eyes and a slight smile
It's ridiculous really, who would've though Cho Sang-woo would fall in love this hard
He is a lot more affectionate in private though
He was never that into the idea of cuddling, but ever since he met you he's become a lot more drawn to it
Now he looks forward to wrapping his arms around you, breathing in your scent, listening to your heartbeat
He loves moments like that, when you're just laughing about stupid things, focusing on each other and everything else is irrelevant, the world finally makes sense
When you're by his side he completely forgets about all the things weighing him down, he finally feels free

like, this isn't saying that i think he's particularly Good or anything. i despise a lot of his actions. i do think he's incredibly interesting and probably the most complex character in the show. From being crushed by expectation and accomplishment he's internalised, and is entirely characterized by, (from other people) to attain standards that are frankly impossible under capitalism, it's little bad choices by little bad choices that exponentially grow and he fucks himself over completely. And isn't that just so entirely human in its desperation and repetition? Sang-Woo and Ali are my favourite people on the show because of how human they are. Ali who retains all of his sense of kindness and humanity and trust in the goodness of someone who has treated him as an equal not as some "illegal alien" (as Han Mi-nyeo calls him) and is punished for it under a system that can't allow it, and Sang-Woo who knows how he has to play and adhere to a system to succeed and is ultimately destroying everything good in himself to do so. Sang-Woo who is pathetic and pitiable and tragic and cowardly and intelligent, calculating, manipulative, jealous, being a sore fucking loser, all qualities that are brought out, encouraged, and exemplified by a environment and condition that forces those characteristics to take centre stage above positive qualities like his sincerity, conviction, gentleness, warmth, care, filial love, supportiveness, ambition, acceptance of others and so on. Or uses those typically positive qualities in very negative ways. I think his interactions with others are super telling - it's in regards to their treatment of him. Despite being childhood friends, how can Sang-Woo feel close to Gi-Hun when his introduction to people is "this guy is so great because he's intelligent and went to this great university, is the pride of the neighbourhood etc etc" when these are all 1. sources of shame, 2. sources of his crushing expectation to live up to these standards 3. sources of his skewed identity. He can only ever be these things otherwise, who the hell is "Sang-Woo"? .. all of this, as opposed to Ali who eventually treated Sang-Woo as just.. Sang-Woo, where Sang-Woo actively encouraged Ali to just treat him as a normal person, not anyone special, and they became closer because of that. i'm going to leave this here bc i'm a teeeny bit tipsy. I could say so so much more about this character holy shit. I think he's fantastically written, i don't really begrudge anyone for disliking him, i don't think he's supposed to be particularly likeable, but he is the example of person under extreme conditions who chooses his own survival and he's hated bc of what he did to characters we had grown attached too in a game designed for there to only be one survivor. Otherwise, every single character we love has "blood on their hands" for choosing their own survival. Do people think it's "fair and square" that Ali won therefore Sang-Woo had to die? Literally no.. because the entire point is that these games are rigged there is the illusion of choice, no one should have had to die in the first place. Like, the "villain" of Squid Game is not Sang-Woo, it is quite literally the people running the games u kno, the voyeuristic exploitative VIP billionaires, who are literally running these murder games for fun, because they're bored, they have so much money and it's so tragic and sad how bored they are so they should do something like kill poor and vulnerable people for fun. Yeah those guys are the real villains, and they're not actually all that fictional.
Sang-Woo being my favourite character in Squid Game is very on brand for me.
#Ali is someone else so much could be written on#exploited immigrant worker#language barriers that make it 'easier' to exploit said person#deferring to someone you perceive as more intelligent than you and who you also perceived to have your best interests at heart#then are totally fucked over#because as soon as your survival conflicts with theirs of course they'll choose themselves#he's not naiive or too trusting#believing in the goodness of others IS a good thing#and it is wrong that he was punished for that#that's the point#it's the whole point#narratively it works#as an allegory it works#stop shitting on the arc because it was GOOD as it was PAINFUL#sangwoo#cho sang woo#ali#ali abdul#squid game#i just love sangwoo honestly#hated character my beloved

Lovers to Strangers
Pairings: Sang-woo x reader, slight Gi-hun x reader
Warning: Angst. Death, betrayal.
Sang-woo was your beloved. Always there when you needed him the most. You thought of him as your knight in shining armour, as cheesy as it sounded.
You guys had met in school. You, Sang-woo and Gi-hun were the troubling trios. Thanks to Sang-woo, you and Gi-hun are making the messes that would then be solved and forgiven.
In high school, you both formed a relationship with one another after noticing the feelings you both held.
The relationship had gone on for almost 30 years, and in that time, you never once saw Sang-woo the way he was at this very moment.
The main room was dead silent as we all sat on different sides of the room. The four of you were left standing, only given a knife to protect you all. The tension in the room was thick as you all prepared for something to happen.
You were weak after the previous round, a shard of glass hitting you bad enough to cause a significant wound.
Noticing that Gi-hun had walked over to Sae-byeok, you slowly sat up and stared in their direction. You were torn between what was right and what you wanted.
On one side, there was your best friend who showed kindness to all when he could. You knew he wanted the best for all of us. Then on the other, there was your lover, sat with a knife in hand as he displayed reasons as to why you should no longer trust him.
The shock you felt when you watched as Sang-woo shoved the man off the glass tile was immense. Never once could you imagine him acting that kind of way. You understood his intentions. If it weren't for him, you all might have died, but at the same time, this all could have been avoided.
You got up off the bed and slowly made your way towards Sang-woo. He was drifting in out of sleep before he looked up at you. You were almost hesitant to approach him as he continued to hold the knife tightly in his hand. "Sang-woo, you alright?" You asked as you approached him. He nodded his head before placing the knife down beside him and scooting over. He pats the bed beside him, causing you to smile as you lay down next to him.
"You're hurt." He spoke up as he looked over at your arm.
You shook your head at his concern. "It's nothing bad. I'll live." You replied with a light chuckle. A sigh escaped your lips as you stared ahead. "Remember when we were little, you Gi-hun and I would have sleepovers, and we would sit like this except it was you and Gi-hun on one side, and I was on the others." You recalled the memory you were thinking about as you watched Gi-hun across the room. "I never told you guys this, but I hated those sleepovers. You always treated me like I was different, but it was always funny watching Gi-hun get chased around when he got in trouble." This ignited a small smile to grow on Sang-woo's face as he remembered the times when you were all young. "Poor, Sae-byeok. She's so young, and she's here. She deserves to win out of all of us." Sang-woo kept quiet to not reveal any part of his plan that involved Sae-byeok. He knew you would be against it. "Remember our first kiss. Never thought I would see businessman Cho Sang-woo so nervous about kissing a girl. Although I can't lie, I was nervous too. I had the biggest crush on you for years. I was so happy when you asked me out." You sighed as you felt your eyes growing tired. "Maybe there's a way we can all get out of here. Split the money four ways. You can have my portion because you need it more than I do. If we just survive the next game, it should be fine."
Sang-woo was too afraid to tell you this, but he knew that only one person would come out alive. It wouldn't make sense to do all of this if there was going to be multiple winners. He could also be wrong with these assumptions, but he trusted his instincts more than anything. That's why he silently picked up the knife as he noticed your eyes beginning to shut.
He watched as you clung onto his arm and snuggled up close to him, whispering a quiet 'good night' before his plan took place.
On the other side of the room, Gi-hun watched you and Sang-woo as he was also reminiscing on the good days. He shot up once he saw Sang-woo lift his arm. "Y/n. Lookout." Gi-hun cried, but it was all too late.
He watched Sang-woo plunge the knife into your side without any hesitation in his swing.
Your eyes opened wide as you felt the uncomfortable feeling of the blade in your stomach. All you could hear was ringing in your ears as white dots took over your vision. From behind them, you could see Sang-woo staring down at you with a hint of remorse behind his eyes.
Your breathing felt heavy as you felt the warm blood begin to pool underneath you. "Why?" You coughed out. "We could have got out of here together." You saw Sang-woo shake his head as he looked down, both hands still on the knife. "It's okay. I'm not mad. I had a feeling something like this was going to happen already. I just wish it wasn't you, but at the same time, I'd rather die at the hands of yours than by the hands of someone else." You continued on quietly. You could still hear Gi-hun calling out to you as he got closer.
The next thing you knew, Sang-woo was standing up and was tackled to the floor. Your eyes opened wider as you looked across the room. Sae-byeok was sat up in her bed watching the scene unfold. You gave her a little wave as you felt your life slowly drifting away. Your head fell to the side as you watched the two men you loved dearest try to attack one another. "Gi-hun, Sang-woo." You called out. With the last of your breath, you mumbled the words, "I love you," before you let yourself go.
Gi-hun was beyond pissed at the man he called his best friend. It wasn't the first time he fought Sang-woo over you. The day he went over to Sang-woo's house hoping to get his help in asking you out. That was the first time they fought.
The love they both shared for you put a hole in their friendship, and from then on, they were never as tight as they used to be. That's why it was so easy for the both of them to leave each other.
Gi-hun's whole world crashed as he saw the life leave your eyes. He rushed over to you, hoping that in some way he could save you. "Y/n, come on. Don't leave me. Not again." Gi-hun cried as he cradled your head close to his chest. Now, as Gi-hun was distracted, Sang-woo got up from his position on the floor and rushed over to the girl on the other side who had collapsed on her bed due to blood loss.
As Gi-hun saw the lights flicked on and heard the door open, it was then he saw what was happening. Sang-woo towered over Sae-byeok, his knife all blooded, and the guards split off in two directions with a coffin for both people.
Gi-hun cried as he was pulled away from your body. Wondering how on Earth the same trio who were once close as ever, found themselves in the same situation with all of them ending up as strangers. They all thought they knew one another, but they all held secrets that tore apart the bond they had.
